Lore-wise, yes! They keep their languages! Best example is Sen-Aret (page 13):

So I do not know much modern language or possess good weapon instincts. Sometimes think Ghost left me old fashioned on purpose due to too much love of anthropological science.

This is a really extreme example and we don't really know which time periods most Guardians come from. For example, we know canonically that a lot are risen in the Cosmodrome, which would be Collapse-time deaths, so those people would most likely know English already, but also probably some other languages as well. It's probably not super common that Guardians are chosen from some ancient times, but we don't really know. There's also the case for anyone risen in other locations and even on other planets. Further complicated also by the Awoken.

Either way, most probably know at least two or more languages. This can also be seen in a lot of names which come from a variety of cultures.

A good example is Osiris who obviously speaks English, but must also know Arabic (Sagira's name) and Hebrew (Curse of Osiris intro cutscene). It's a pretty direct proof that Guardians are rezed with whatever language they knew in their previous life. And in Sen-Aret's case, sometimes adjusting and learning "modern" language can be difficult.

Destiny has an interesting potential for languages. Most scifi so far into the future it's assumed that a lot of languages have died out, but d2 is out here dragging back native speakers of dead languages from the grave. And languages that're fading out now would have the chance to resurface. And I just love that sm.

I've read they're like? Granted whatever the in-universe modern language is by their Ghosts so they can communicate? I want to believe they keep their original first language anyway. Idk about lore for that but idgaf.

New lights finding someone that speaks their mother tongue for the first time and freaking out. Proceeding to be dragged by the arm off to meet the other people who do. I don't really want to imagine the Last City having sections where any language (other than whatever "modern" D2 language is) is more prevalent since irl that's usually the byproduct of racism/xenophobia. I just want it to be like- history & ancestry may be lost to time but here's this thing we share. Some fragment that's left. I can understand you, and isn't that beautiful? Aarghhh

Guardians and their Ghosts obviously have many disagreements. Even Ikora during/shortly after Forsaken, admitted she's at odds with hers and it's a strained relationship. Canon Young Wolf and Ghost don't even get along always!

So!!!

What if Guardian/Ghost counselors are a thing???

It's like a couples therapist/counselor, only instead for specifically Guardians and their Ghosts who are at odds.

Destiny 2's he Final Shape is upon us and sorry not sorry in advance if this blog suddenly becomes really Destiny heavy, the campaign is fantastic and it's consuming my life right now. I love my guardians I love their ghosts
