So, somehow in just under a month, I put together an animated/animatic movie trailer for Redstone and Skulk(a really awesome fic on AO3) by @silverskye13

I'm actually pretty proud of how it came out, seeing as I've never made an animatic before. And it was really fun to plot it out, record the voicelines, and mix all the sound elements. So I definetly want to do other animatics in the future.

Yeah yeah yeah I've worked out a little more of the detail for this whole backstory in my head since I last talked about it so I can actually get into it sure :]

So while the property that Grian and Joel end up in during the main plot of the au is large, it's mostly taken up by like the giant ass manor that's on it and the grounds around that. Which is why they've got such a plethora of ghosts, there have been thousands of people living there over thousands of years. Etho's property however, which he bought for cheap maybe ten years before the main story of the au, is almost entirely undeveloped, and has very rarely been a place people lived, hence why he's got like 3 ghosts total. There's a single cabin on the property, one that hasn't been used since around the 1890s when the property was used as a hunting grounds, which was promptly abandoned after the hunting accident that led to Gem's death. Hels had, up until Gem's death and subsequent residence on the property as a ghost, been the only one haunting the property for about 500 years.

He was generally unpleasant in his life, but 500 years on his own building resentment and anger in his loneliness in his unchanging world as he watches Wels across the fence seemingly finding companionship in his afterlife hadn't exactly made him any better. He was stubborn, and unfriendly, and averse to change, and extremely quick to anger. He had lost the deft touch of control that most knights wield over their acts of violence. Lacking his sword in death and unable to leave any touch on the world other than the occasional scratch from the sharp talon like ends of his gauntlets' fingers, he has taken to leaving long, animal like scratches in his environment when he cannot ignore that call to violence in his anger. The cabin looks like it's been ransacked by a bear, claw dug grooves in doors and tables, old dusty furniture with fabric tears revealing rotted insides, wallpaper that peels in unnatural places and forms. The trees around the property are often similarly marked. The only thing seemingly left fully intact, is a dark sword mounted above the fireplace.

Gem, being the strong-willed individual that she is, manages to mellow him out a bit in the 100 or so years they spend alone together on the property. She herself is strange and unusual in a way that seems to throw him off enough to manage to endear her to him in the time he spends too confused to be angry. And so he remains this kind of sulking, possessive, angry thing, but they share the house, and having as sharp a tongue as she does, Gem starts to turn him towards more verbal sparing than enacting any physical violence on their surroundings.

And so that 100 years of joint solitude passes by, Cub dies on the property and haunts his respective corner, seemingly uninterested in sharing the little cabin with Gem and Hels, and so Hels remains comfortable in his unchanging world.

And then Etho buys the property.

And it isn't exactly strange that someone has bought the property, it had probably passed through a dozen hands in the time since Hels had been stuck there, but no one had ever really moved in. It had been used as a hunting estate and as a scout's meeting place and as a garden, but never had anyone looked at the little cabin he had claimed as his own and decided they were going to live there. And the assumption had been that with the state it was in, no one would. Until Etho came along.

He comes in, all on his own, and starts fixing things in the little cabin, pulling out old furniture, cleaning dusty floors and struggling through plumbing work and tearing out old wallpaper. The only other person around in this time is XB, who he seems to have hired to handle the grounds while he handles the house. By the time the house is even slightly livable he's moved in.

This, obviously, does not make Hels very happy. Gem is happy to see the house get an update, and is intrigued by this weird lonesome guy who has moved onto their property, and this only seems to upset Hels more. He starts acting out I little ways, tearing Etho's clothes, scratching new furnature he brings in, messing up repair work.

Etho isn't oblivious to this, and isn't exactly a skeptic when it comes to the supernatural, so he starts talking to whatever entity he imagines to be antagonizing him throuout the day, and decides to antagonize him right back, much to Gem's entertainment and Hels' increasing agitation.

It is the day when Etho finally decides to take down the old sword above the fireplace that things go wrong.

Etho probably should've known not to touch the sword when he watched a set of scratch marks appear in the stones of the mantle beside him as he prepared to take it down. But he kept going. And maybe when a second set raked across his brand new dining room table as he pulled the sword down he should've thought to just put it back. Instead he continues to verbally antagonize Hels as he brings the thing down. Maybe he gets a little too on the nose, connecting the sword to his antagonizing spector, either way he says just the wrong thing to set the ghost off. Hels, used to interacting with Gem, who he can touch but can't injure, attempts to grab at Etho in a moment of anger, instead managing to claw the shit out of the side of his face. In the panic of realizing what he had done he attempts to catch him by the arm as he stumbles back and does the exact same thing to his arm. Queue panic and blood and such. XB hears the commotion from wherever he is outside and is the one who calls an ambulance and such. I imagine Etho gets his first shaky glimpse of Hels right as he's passing out from the blood loss.

Etho survives, of course, but looses an eye and has some pretty severe damage to his face and arm. Gem is the first of the ghosts he meets when he returns to the property, Hels hiding away when he comes home. He kind of shuts himself away in the house after that. If it seemed like he was running away from something moving to this middle of nowhere empty property before, it certainly seemed like he was hiding now. Xb is the only one he keeps around, and even he's stuck at an arms distance. It takes him a long time to not be terrified of Gem, or of Cub when he meets him. How he and Hels eventually manage to coexist is a whole other story. But either way I've been typing for too long lol I need to wrap this up

Crazy place for this au to have ended up at from 'haha wouldn't it be funny if Etho was Grian and Joel's weird shut-in neighbor that can also see ghosts' but whatever

Racism and misogynoir are so apparent in fandom, especially when it comes to shipping because why is it when a white male, sometimes female but I see it more with the former, character is on screen with a love interest, particularly woc, especially if they're black, and even with all the emotional scenes or just moments where they look at one another in ways different from the rest, it's met with "No, they aren't dating/the show is not going to put them together" but let the other love interest be white as well and suddenly it all makes sense? Heck, the examples I mentioned above don't even have to exist between the latter for some to STILL go and believe this rhetoric (eg. some Jace and Helaena shippers because, even if these two only interacted with a dance but yet we see Baela console Jace, after he seeks her out, apparently it's to far fetched to believe that Jacela could be a thing?!)

Sometimes it could be a headcanon that, largely, would make sense (and oftentimes was birth due to lack of respect that the poc characters could have been given by the writers *cough* TVD *cough*), and yet you'd still have people dismissing it left and right and spewing hate. At a HEADCANON! And I'm not saying that just because the other person in the ship is poc that you have to ship them, I'm not, but it's very apparent to many poc fans in fandom that unless the characters are swapping spit and doing the nasty, the possibility of them being viewed in any romantic lens feels too much of stretch even though their white counterparts don't have to jump through the same loops.

For those of you angry about the term ‘non binary’ being used in a fantasy setting, you are fucking stupid. It’s the english language. It means not-binary. And yes, there ARE gender roles in thedas, plenty of them! You just aren’t paying close enough attention. Also, there is another term that Taash’s mom brings up, aqun-athlok, so there ya go there’s your transgenderism that’s built into the fantasy setting.

The fact that you all are going through hoops and loops to try and find problem’s with Taash’s representation just gives away your internalized transphobia. Yeah, it’s not accurate to YOUR story or your friend’s story — because it’s not your story. It’s theirs.

I'm reading through from eden (it slaps, by the way) and I have two largely inconsequential questions: 1) Did you name Patho that for any particular reason or is it just because Logo would be stupid? and 2) Is the wing that tango was kept in the south wing because of beauty and the beast?

1) HAH i considered both patho and logo but when chatting w mel we decided we just liked the sound of patho better. also bonus: mel’s totally serious hels!etho name suggestions

and 2) beauty and the beast actually had the west wing but i def thought of it when i wrote that! really i just needed some sectioned-off place they could deem OFF LIMITS for bravo and to me it made sense that tango’s farm was in a newer addition to hels tek (bc hybrid farming was their newest development and they had a Lot of grand plans for future expansion) but since hels tek is on the west coast of spawn bordering a lava ocean i figured they’d expand in a different direction first, more simple than building over lava (esp w their complicated cobble-farm wall defense system, they’d have to drain a lotta lava to make room below). suppose it could’ve easily been the north wing but i just wrote south and ran with it.

♡︎ Hair: Helena's hair is jet black and she likes to keep it cut short. She'll wear her hair in different styles occasionally. She loves when her hair is long but due to working in the Auror force for 10+ years, she's opted to keep it short and out of the way.

♡︎ Other: Helena does have a scar on the left side of her face but she uses magic to cover it up. She got the scar while on the job as an Auror when she was attacked. The experience left her traumatized as she was a young Auror at the time and so she covers the scar in attempt to not remember the attack so vividly.

For the most part, Helena is really laid back. While in school, she tended to get along with most everybody as long as they weren't complete and total jerks. She had her set group of friends she liked to hang out around. She'd do well in school, was a prefect, etc... She does occasionally get up to mischief but she'll never downright put people in danger. She likes dealing with things through humor (as long as it isn't serious) and she's all around a pretty empathetic person, especially to those around her who are younger than her. She has a very "Mama bear" personality.

Helena was born and raised in England to a muggle father and a muggleborn mother. Helena's mother is from India while her father is native to England. She has two sisters, Asha and Edwina (all of their names end in "ah"), both of which are witches just like her. Helena attended Hogwarts and got into the Ravenclaw house while her two sisters got into Hufflepuff and Gryffindor. She did well in school, became a prefect in her 5th year, graduated and went on into the Auror program when she was twenty years old. She would've joined at 18, however she got engaged to a man who she thought was her forever man so she pushed joining the Auror force off. When she was 19, only a year later she found out he had been cheating on her almost the entire time. She quickly called off the engagement and joined the Auror force. She worked as an Auror for fifteen years before retiring. After that, Hogwarts opened up a position in potions as a secondary Professor. Helena took this job offer and has been working there as a Professor since.

♡︎ Her mother - Helena's relationship with her mother is very strong. The Elwyn home was filled with love, mainly because of her mother. She is a very sweet, loving, and kind person, making her relationship with her daughter very strong.

♡︎ Her father - Helena's relationship with her father is also strong, however he was gone often for work so Helena didn't seen him as much as she saw her mother. They did as much as they could while she was growing up but since her father was a muggle and she was not, they did live two very different lives.

♡︎ Asha - Helena has a very close relationship with her younger sister. They studied together much growing up and they got along well.

♡︎ Edwina - Likewise with Asha, they were close. But their time spent together was more so talking than anything else. Edwina had a colorful imagination and Helena was often the one she went to air her thoughts out to.

♡︎ Aesop Sharp - Helena had known Aesop for years. They went to school together, however they were in different years and houses. They were friends in school, however they lost touch after graduation. They were reunited in the Auror force where they began their on and off relationship. After Aesop was injured and left the force, their relationship ended officially. They were then reunited again when Helena retired and picked up the job offer at Hogwarts. After being reunited so many times, they realized that it wasn't just a coincidence and rekindled their love. They were married two years later.
