The victim has a kid for the next 18 years and "While the prosecution sought 12 years incarceration for the crime, Hilario received only 4 years in prison — the minimum possible sentence for the crime of child sexual abuse."
By Nuria Muíña García. October 24, 2023
A man serving a 4-year sentence for the repeat sexual abuse of an underage girl has been transferred to a mixed-sex penitentiary to serve his time with women. The predator, known only as “Hilario,” has also been formally re-classified as a “female” convict.
According to El Norte de Castilla, Hilario first requested a change of registered sex just a few weeks ago. After receiving a rapid approval, he informed the governing body for Spain’s correctional system that he wanted to be transferred to a women’s prison in accordance with Spain’s recently-adopted gender self-identification legislation. Law 4/2023 for the real and effective equality of trans people and for the guarantee of the rights of LGTBI people, colloquially referred to as “the Trans Law” came into effect in February despite widespread protests.
Hilario has now been transferred from the Segovia Penitentiary Centre in Torredondo, to the Madrid VII macro-prison, a mixed-sex prison built in 2008. It is believed he is being housed in the women’s wing of the facility.
The 48-year-old man was first sentenced in December of 2022 after being found guilty of the repeat sexual abuse of a teenage girl. The victim was the daughter of a female friend, whom Hilario frequently visited the home of and had briefly moved in with.
According to court records, Hilario developed a “sentimental relationship” with the girl, and sexually abused her on two occasions. As a result, the girl became pregnant and gave birth to a son.
The Social Services Department of the Junta de Castilla y León quickly became involved, and determined the girl had been living in a situation of neglect. Information provided to the court revealed that the minor and the adult man had been living together with the acquiescence of her mother. Men’s clothes were found in the house, as well as cigarette butts in ashtrays on the girl’s bedside tables. Social Services also discovered that the man had been taking the girl to childbirth preparation classes.
Despite being close to the girl’s mother, Hilario reportedly denied knowing the girl was underage, an assertion that was rejected by the court, which affirmed that there was “no doubt” that Hilario knew the girl was under the age of 16.
After the first effort failed, Hiario’s defense then successfully argued that Hilario did not know the age of consent because he “grew up in a marginalized environment” where minor-adult sexual relations were common.
While the prosecution sought 12 years incarceration for the crime, Hilario received only 4 years in prison — the minimum possible sentence for the crime of child sexual abuse.
In handing down the sentence, the court accepted that “when he committed the offense, he did not know that what he was doing constituted a criminal offense.” Hilario was also ordered to pay compensation of 3,000 Euros (approx. $3,100 USD) to the victim, but was not ordered to complete any sex offender treatment programs.
While Hilario never previously identified as transgender or expressed any concerns about his gender prior to his sentencing, he was rapidly approved to request a gender marker change following his incarceration.
His transfer to a low-security, mixed-sex penitentiary comes with a host of benefits, including that he will be entitled to take “days off” out of prison via leave permits.
According to the latest data available regarding the transgender prison population in Spain outside of Catalonia and the Basque Country, there are currently 83 inmates incarcerated who claim a transgender identity. Of them, 47 are male and 36 are female.
Of the 47 trans-identified male inmates, 23 are serving sentences in men’s facilities, 22 in women’s facilities, and 2 in mixed facilities. Of the 36 trans-identified females, 25 are serving sentences in women’s facilities, 8 in men’s facilities and 3 in mixed facilities.

A win for trans rights!!!!!! 🏳️⚧️
The Selbstbestimmungsgesetz (self-identify law) allows trans and intersex people to change their name and gender in the civil registry much more easily than before by submitting a self-disclosure form. This will be possible starting on the 1. November 2024 while the self-disclosure forms can be submitted as early as 1. August 2024 because of the 3 month waiting period in the law. After a name and gender change the person will be barred from changing it again for one year. People of ages 14-17 will need the approval of a legal guardian to change their gender and name while for children under 14 the legal guardians can submit a form for the change.

So Missouri is introducing a bill that would make it so teachers would be charged as sex offenders and put on the registry for "contributing to social transition" of trans youth.
This is so completely fucked up. A teacher can be charged with a class E felony for using they/them pronouns.
They’re making aiding trans people punishable by law. They’re making it illegal to help trans people. They want to make it impossible to support us. They want to cut us off from all resources in society. They want to starve us out.
You can read the whole bill here: https://documents.house.mo.gov/billtracking/bills241/hlrbillspdf/5874H.01I.pdf

fundamental to bioessentialist and zionist ideology is a refusal to recognize that victimhood is situational rather than ontological
#honestly the terf-zionist overlap ime is massive. and yet the parallels in experience btwn diaspora jews and trans women is undeniable#but like. generally an incapability to recognize that jews are not inherently victims in an existential sense#but that antisemitic persecution is like... circumstantial. not natural law.

some good news!! the spanish state's ministry of equality has finally passed one of the most progressive trans laws on the planet, shielded free and universal access to abortion and banned conversion therapy and genital surgery for intersex babies, among a lot of other feminist policies. the minister of equality irene montero gave a speech thanking spain's lgtb and trans associations for helping her draft these legislations. couldn't be more proud!!

I can't believe it. They passed the new trans law in Finland, allowing adult trans people to change their legal gender without having to provide lengthy documentation from doctors. It passed. I am so fucking happy. I know people who've been waiting for years to get their gender recognized by a doctor to get treatments. I can't believe it. Really can't.
We won❤️ edit: Here is the news article if you have any questions, it's also linked in the comments💖

I recall saying this before, but it bears repeating:
There could be a billion trans people in the world and it still wouldn't be a bad thing because being trans is not a bad thing. Even if the rate of people discovering they are trans is "disproportionate" to trends from decades ago, that is not a bad thing. In fact, it's a natural consequence for there being more trans people being able to stay alive, and, overall, being able to live in a slightly more tolerant world. You'd only see that as a bad thing if you actively didn't want trans people to either live or live a life that facilitates wellness.
#trans#transgender#lgbt#lgbtq#ftm#mtf#nonbinary#like even with there being more OPEN AND OUT trans people there are still more cis people by volume#even in my high school with three trans girls and three trans guys (including me) and a few NB people...#...there were still a THOUSAND cis kids going to school with us. imagine complaining when cis people are still 'dominant'#i don't know what my secondary school's population is because it's a big campus so you can deal with high school stats lol#like thank gd we are beginning to live in a world where the trans population CAN grow#i want there to be more trans people. because trans people will continue to be trans#we will continue being trans no matter what laws you put into place. no matter how dangerous you make the world for us...#...we will continue to be trans whether or not you approve. and that's fucking beautiful. i want us to live. i want us to eat well.#i want us to not worry about anything in this world. and that's going to happen one day. it will happen just like the sun rises each morning#if that is a threat to you then that is your own fault - your own self-destructive and sad thoughts about people and our world#and that is not my burden to carry - i have my own.

Saw this mentioned on Instagram and holy fuck I hadn't even considered it....
Tennessee's anti-drag laws would criminalize Purim celebrations.
Purim Spiels usually involve a lot of drag, and it's often a tradition in Orthodox congregations for a Rabbi to dress up as Queen Esther or Vashti in the Purim Spiel. As a kid, all the Rabbis at my Jewish day school would put on a Purim Spiel, and yes, two Rabbis dressed in drag to play Queen Esther and Queen Vashti. Even in more socially conservative Jewish communities, Purim is the one instance where you'll see cishet men wear make-up and glitter. Purim has always involved a lot of cross-dressing and gender-bending and flamboyant make-up and costumes.
And I mean if you're a Christian and you don't care about Jews .....this would also criminalize Mardi Gras celebrations.

"Georgia Republicans bundled over a dozen measures that targeted the state’s transgender residents into omnibus packages in a desperate attempt to get them passed. In a stunning defeat for the GOP, every single one of them failed.
Legislators gutted bills that had passed through committee and instead stuffed them full of their anti-LGBTQ+ wishlist items.
Bills that would ban transgender students from playing on teams aligned with their gender identity, ban transgender students from bathrooms aligned with their gender identity, opt parents into notification for every book a student checks out of the library, bar sex education before sixth grade, make all sex-ed classes opt-in and expand obscenity laws to make it easier to ban books with LGBTQ+ content all failed.
“MAGA politicians in Georgia tried it all in service to their anti-LGBTQ+ agenda,” said Human Rights Campaign Georgia State Director Bentley Hudgins, “including silencing debate and gutting unrelated, popular bills that had bipartisan support to ram through policies that would have put young LGBTQ+ Georgians in harm’s way. They failed.”
“It’s undeniable that the tides are shifting, both here in Georgia and across the nation,” Georgia Equality executive director Jeff Graham added. “Anti-LGBTQ actors are losing their political power, and more and more Georgians who know and love LGBTQ people are standing up against their baseless fear-mongering.”
In Florida recently, nearly two dozen anti-LGBTQ+ bills were defeated in the wake of Gov. Ron DeSantis‘s (R) presidential campaign implosion, dozens of measures in Virginia were tabled [Note: In the US, "tabled" means "shelved" or "taken out of consideration - the opposite of its meaning in the UK and other places], and Ohio’s governor backed off his attempt to restrict gender-affirming care access for transgender adults and minors.
Meanwhile, in D.C., Democrats successfully excised 50 anti-LGBTQ+ provisions in the two budget bills passed and signed by President Joe Biden to fund the federal government.
Even Fox News has been forced to acknowledge transgender issues are among the lowest-priority concerns among voters."

Good News - July 15-21
Like these weekly compilations? Tip me at $kaybarr1735! (Or check out my new(ly repurposed) Patreon!)
1. Thai tiger numbers swell as prey populations stabilize in western forests
“The tiger population density in a series of protected areas in western Thailand has more than doubled over the past two decades, according to new survey data. […] The most recent year of surveys, which concluded in November 2023, photographed 94 individual tigers, up from 75 individuals in the previous year, and from fewer than 40 in 2007. […] A total of 291 individual tigers older than 1 year were recorded, as well as 67 cubs younger than 1 year.”
2. Work starts to rewild former cattle farm
“Ecologists have started work to turn a former livestock farm into a nature reserve [… which] will become a "mosaic of habitats" for insects, birds and mammals. [… R]ewilding farmland could benefit food security locally by encouraging pollinators, improving soil health and soaking up flood water. [… “N]ature restoration doesn't preclude food production. We want to address [food security] by using nature-based solutions."”
3. Harnessing ‘invisible forests in plain view’ to reforest the world
“[… T]he degraded land contained numerous such stumps with intact root systems capable of regenerating themselves, plus millions of tree seeds hidden in the soil, which farmers could simply encourage to grow and reforest the landscape[….] Today, the technique of letting trees resprout and protecting their growth from livestock and wildlife [… has] massive potential to help tackle biodiversity loss and food insecurity through resilient agroforestry systems. [… The UN’s] reported solution includes investing in land restoration, “nature-positive” food production, and rewilding, which could return between $7 and $30 for every dollar spent.”
4. California bars school districts from outing LGBTQ+ kids to their parents
“Gov. Gavin Newsom signed the SAFETY Act today – a bill that prohibits the forced outing of transgender and gay students, making California the first state to explicitly prohibit school districts from doing so. […] Matt Adams, a head of department at a West London state school, told PinkNews at the time: “Teachers and schools do not have all the information about every child’s home environment and instead of supporting a pupil to be themselves in school, we could be putting them at risk of harm.””
5. 85% of new electricity built in 2023 came from renewables
“Electricity supplied by renewables, like hydropower, solar, and wind, has increased gradually over the past few decades — but rapidly in recent years. [… C]lean energy now makes up around 43 percent of global electricity capacity. In terms of generation — the actual power produced by energy sources — renewables were responsible for 30 percent of electricity production last year. […] Along with the rise of renewable sources has come a slowdown in construction of non-renewable power plants as well as a move to decommission more fossil fuel facilities.”
6. Deadly cobra bites to "drastically reduce" as scientists discover new antivenom
“After successful human trials, the snake venom antidote could be rolled out relatively quickly to become a "cheap, safe and effective drug for treating cobra bites" and saving lives around the globe, say scientists. Scientists have found that a commonly used blood thinner known as heparin can be repurposed as an inexpensive antidote for cobra venom. […] Using CRISPR gene-editing technology […] they successfully repurposed heparin, proving that the common blood thinner can stop the necrosis caused by cobra bites.”
7. FruitFlow: a new citizen science initiative unlocks orchard secrets
“"FruitWatch" has significantly refined phenological models by integrating extensive citizen-sourced data, which spans a wider geographical area than traditional methods. These enhanced models offer growers precise, location-specific predictions, essential for optimizing agricultural planning and interventions. […] By improving the accuracy of phenological models, farmers can better align their operations with natural biological cycles, enhancing both yield and quality.”
8. July 4th Means Freedom for Humpback Whale Near Valdez, Alaska
“The NOAA Fisheries Alaska Marine Mammal Stranding Hotline received numerous reports late afternoon on July 3. A young humpback whale was entangled in the middle of the Port of Valdez[….] “The success of this mission was due to the support of the community, as they were the foundation of the effort,” said Moran. [… Members of the community] were able to fill the critical role of acting as first responders to a marine mammal emergency. “Calling in these reports is extremely valuable as it allows us to respond when safe and appropriate, and also helps us gain information on various threats affecting the animals,” said Lyman.”
9. Elephants Receive First of Its Kind Vaccine
“Elephant endotheliotropic herpesvirus is the leading cause of death for Asian elephants (Elephas maximus) born in facilities in North America and also causes calf deaths in the wild in Asia. A 40-year-old female received the new mRNA vaccine, which is expected to help the animal boost immunity[….]”
10. Conservation partners and Indigenous communities working together to restore forests in Guatemala
“The K’iche have successfully managed their natural resources for centuries using their traditional governing body and ancestral knowledge. As a result, Totonicapán is home to Guatemala’s largest remaining stand of conifer forest. […] EcoLogic has spearheaded a large-scale forest restoration project at Totonicapán, where 13 greenhouses now hold about 16,000 plants apiece, including native cypresses, pines, firs, and alders. […] The process begins each November when community members gather seeds. These seeds then go into planters that include upcycled coconut fibers and mycorrhizal fungi, which help kickstart fertilization. When the plantings reach about 12 inches, they’re ready for distribution.”
