Primal Fears AU content but don’t worry it’s still sonadow

That last one is a repost from last year so if you saw the silly drawings but then read the thing in the bottom left corner and went “wait what the fuck”
It’s because it was an AU thing but I literally only had that drawn out and now you get some context at least:
In this universe Sonic is an assassin/bounty hunter/whatever you wanna call a guy that is hired to specifically to kill other Entities. He meets Shadow when they run into each other because they’re both following the same Avatar. Then they do the normal canon sonadow thing where the first interaction they have always ends with them fighting and beating the shit out of each other. And then they kinda calm down but then Shadow has a similar moment from the beginning of the IDW Sonic comics where he gets absolutely pissed that Sonic managed to distract him from catching the bad guy and zooms away before the two have another chance to speak again.
Here Shadow is a GUN field agent except in this universe GUN isn’t really military and it’s more focused on not only investigating (like the Magnus Institute) but also actively dealing with the Entities. Which sounds great except remember how I said they aren’t military well actually they kinda are because “dealing” with Entities and Avatars just means: throw it in the high-security prison that is guarded by other various Avarars that all work for GUN because it means they don’t have to get thrown in prison. So GUN is kinda like The Magnus Institute + Section 31 working together. So actually I guess it’s like the SCP Foundation.
One day Shadow goes into work and Sonic and there and I’m not really sure on what I’m gonna do in the plot to make him end up there (like maybe he’s undercover and just using GUN to get to his next target or maybe GUN does the “hey we’re gonna throw you in jail if you don’t agree to work for us” idk again not sure yet) but now he’s working with Shadow because they still need to catch that Avatar.
So now we’re sorta caught up, they’re at Club Rouge (and I realized I didn’t specify which Entity she serves in my drawing of her but people who guessed the Stranger ding ding ding here have some sonadow) because Sonic and Shadow need to kinda interrogate Surge and Amy, who are associated with the Slaughter. They have a band called Poison Rose and it’s basically just Grifter’s Bone but they perform rock music instead. And are also probably dating.
Anyway the Big Case™️ Sonic and Shadow are working on is investigating a bunch of spooky murders and they’re pretty sure whoever’s behind them is a Slaughter avatar. But not specifically Amy and Surge☝️ They’re kinda “allowed” to perform the Music That Makes You Die because GUN also has like an “informant” group of avatars they can rely on. These avatars don’t work for GUN, but they agree to chill out on the spooky stuff if it means they don’t get arrested for spooky crimes. So for Poison Rose, “chilling out” on the spooky stuff means that they have to force people to wear earplugs while they perform, which wasn’t specifically stated in MAG 42 if that works or not, not really sure of the magic rules of the Music That Makes You Die phenomena but yeah they gotta do that and probably some other stuff so GUN doesn’t arrest them. Like maybe no swearing or something lol.
Okay gonna stop there before this gets even longer explaining my AU because this was supposed to be just a normal sketch post but whoops.
Oh also I made a playlist for the kind of music Poison Rose performs but it was made private because I didn’t want anyone to stumble across it and be like “pshhhh this dumb person who makes public playlists of their AU that no one knows about what a loser” (me when I make up completely unrealistic scenarios in my head) but now here’s a post explaining that part of my AU so that person can’t make fun of me anymore
#primal fears au#sonadow#sonic#the magnus archives#sonic au#sketches#my art#also i think in my sketches from my previous primal fears post i said that amy is an avatar of the corruption but that sketch is old#i decided on making her a slaughter avatar solely for the surgeamy#so yeah#surgeamy#if you want#as a treat#but also i really like the amy!popstar idea so its sorta that too#tma au#ig lol even tho if anyone sees this under the tma tag theyre gonna be like#‘heyyyyy wait a second this isn’t tma this is sonic the hedgehog idiot’#Spotify

Ask Masterpost #7 (Admin Asks) -- 3/15/2025
Maybe I should change the posting date of these to Sunday so I stop procrastinating them on Saturdays, LOL.
Anyways, this is the first edition of non-blog focused asks (fun questions, personal questions, etc), so I'm not going to write up a summary since none of this is essential information for submissions or anything like that :).
Since I'm writing it up so late in the day I'm going to post it with my answers, but Mod Rae may update it with their answers so feel free to check back! In the future hopefully I'll be able to write it up in enough time to give them a chance :').
----------
@foulwinter asked: Ever heard of either of Sonic CD's soundtracks? I grew up with the US soundtrack but I love both of them. I think the war between which soundtrack is silly when you look at it from the perspective of having MORE Sonic CD music
Admin: I have never been a big sonic fan, so I have no horse in this race :'). But I do agree that it's nice to have more soundtrack per soundtrack!
----------
@pearlhoardingdragon asked: If you had to stick with one family of consoles for the rest of your life, would it be playstation, nintendo, or xbox?
Admin: PC 4 Lyfe (I never had enough money for consoles growing up </3). I'd probably pick Nintendo though, since I like the switch and DS.
----------
Thoughts on Yoko Shimomura?
Admin: LOVE HER!!! I haven't played a lot of the games she has worked on but from what I've heard from her she is 🔥🔥🔥🔥
----------
who's your favourite villain in ffxiv?
Admin: The only Final Fantasy villain I know is Sephiroth... and I think he's cute and silly 💔
----------
stance on Nerdcore video game songs? (Miracle of Sound, Aviators, JT Music, etc) both as submissions and just in general.
Admin: I don't think I have a strong/opinion-worthy stance on any genre of music, because all music that I like regardless of genre is good music. Simple as.
----------
Would you say you've gotten fulfillment out of starting this project? I remember you have it posted somewhere that you started this blog because you wanted to listen to new music, so what's it been like? Any favorites that stand out?
Admin: Yes!! This has been really fun and ESPECIALLY so since I finally figured out some things to help me maintain it without messing with my insane schedule within the last few months. I definitely need to make a proper list of my favorites but I think my most favorite song that I discovered 100% from submissions alone is #212, Tenebre Rosso Sangue from ULTRAKILL. (this wasn't an anon ask, but I forgot to write the blog name before deleting the ask to clear it from my inbox... </3)
----------
what is your favourite kind of bread, actually?
Admin: Any flatbread!!!!!! Pita bread, naan, roti, and especially tortillas <-- put it in my mouth
----------
out of every song posted, do you have a least favourite? if so, what?
Admin: The Ao Oni chase theme (#125) because it scared me.
----------
thank you for all your hard work hosting this blog. question: has it been fun to discover so many songs through the blog? the level of variety is really cool. out of curiosity, how much of the music would you say you have personally already known before they were submitted?
Admin: I'd say I've probably only heard 5-10% of the songs submitted here before :'). But that just means that this blog is highly effective at helping me find new music!
----------
my favourite kind of results are what i like to call the penis results. it usually happens when "like it/first time hearing it" gets the lead while "like/sounds familiar" and "don't feel strongly" take like 10-12% each. are there any specific poll results that you've found particularly interesting for any reason
Admin: 1. I'm calling that phenomena penis results now and 2. #689, which has the highest 'Like and Familiar' result of any song at 49.60%. The average % for this category is 19.19%.
----------
Have you ever gotten a submission on this blog that you’re disappointed more people don’t know?
Admin: EVERY NIER SONG EVER!!!!!!!! GO PLAY NIER REPLICANT RIGHT NOW IT IS 60% OFF UNTIL MARCH 20TH.
----------
Do you have a series you expected to get a lot of requests for, but haven't?
Admin: There's surprisingly few Persona requests, which I expected to be more popular. There's also one song in particular (not from persona) that I'm surprised I haven't seen yet (not naming it, I don't want to invite inorganic submissions!)
----------
what is your favorite piece of music outside videogames?
Admin: This is hard because my favorites are pretty much always changing (other than the one song I listen to obsessively multiple times a day, of course) and I can never pick just one anyways... I think I'd have to go with (as of writing this) 'With All Its Complexities' by Kyoumeni from her album 'And Then I Woke Up.'

*Dancing around in joy that I found a cool ass AU*
In your Eggsperiments AU, is Shadow the same as usual then? Or did something else happen to him? Are Amy and Knuckles also experiments in this world or just natural phenomena? Out of all Sonic series, games, and comics, which do you think your AU is best fit to be in?
Sorry for the question dump!
No need to apologize, I love getting questions like this!!
In this AU, is shadow the same as usual?
Shadow is the same, still a creation on the ark and all that. I want to leave him mainly unchanged bc I think when going against sonic, as someone who is also an experiment, it will be 1) a little funny and 2) an interesting way to play with their dynamic! Eggman didn't model his experiments after Project Shadow either, as at this point he's not aware of the full extent of his Grandfather's research. Bro thinks he's the first one doing something like this 💔
Are Amy and Knuckles also experiments or natural?
Amy and Knuckles are natural in their abilities ! I believe in the idea that every mobian as a species has some level of tolerance to chaos energy, Sonic and Tails just had theirs manually heightened way too fast for their age, which is why they have complications. I Feel like Knuckles has a high capacity for chaos energy due to his proximity to the master emerald and Amy has a decently high tolerance to chaos energy but would have to be medically limited when she's older due to that fact (I know it's not an original idea of mine but I like giving Amy a similar thing to inhibitors bc she's just so powerful to me). Both Knuckles and Amy have enhanced strength due to their tolerance, but Amy doesn't reach her full potential strength for awhile due to her limiters.
Where are we in the Sonic Universe?
As for where I'd place this, I like putting things in the context of mainline sonic games ! To me, this takes place in very early classic era! I'm unsure where to place them timeline wise when they would break out, but I am actively workshopping it behind the scenes!
Thank you for all your questions, feel free to ask more if you're ever curious, and I'm happy you like my little eggs !!
My Eggsperiments AU masterpost for those curious !!!

Headcanon: Dragons of the Four Seas
(inspired by a recent discussion with @the-monkey-ruler)
-Although Chinese dragons are water deities, there are dragons who control stuff other than water: Cold Dragons under the Dragon King of the North can freeze stuff, and Bailong Ma used to be a Fire Dragon in pre-novel variants of JTTW.
"Wouldn't it be interesting if the four major lineage of dragons all have their unique side-power, apart from water and weather manipulation?"
-It starts off as this, then spins out of control and becomes one giant worldbuilding exercise.
East Sea:

-The eastern direction is traditionally associated with the Wood element. However, I feel like plant manipulation will be too obvious.
-So instead, they are the master of Thunder and Wind——the trigrams that represent these two things, Zhen and Xun, are both Wood-aligned.

-Their lightning has a notable azure hue, and have adapted the force of Thunder specifically for underwater usage, creating highly potent sonic blasts as well as what basically amount to a sonar spell.
-They kinda consider themselves the archetypal dragon, representative of their kind, and certainly have the attitude to match.
-Like, they claim to be descended from the Azure Dragon of the East, even though the idea that a Divine Beast of the Four Directions, stellar guardian of the entire eastern section of the sky, can reproduce is...dubious at best.
-Don't you mention the time Ao Guang got bullied by Wukong. Or Nezha. Or Huaguang. Or the Eight Immortals. They are very touchy about that. Violently touchy.
-They also have close relations with water-dwelling Yakshas, who act as a sort of elite mercenaries in their military campaigns against other seaborn demons and rogue flood dragons.
-Basically, the proud generals of dragonkind, with a vast weapon collection to match. The dragon king's family also name their kids after Celestial Stems and Earthly Branches, much like the ancient Shang dynasty rulers.
-The East Sea dragons are the only lineage who has an official representative of the Celestial Host stationed in their territory, who's only known by his title, the "Water-dividing General of the East Sea".
-He seems to be an older sort of god, the half-man, half-beast ones who look like they walk out of an illustration of the Book of Mountains and Seas.
-Most of the time, he takes the form of a seal, lounging around on rocks and watching sunrises, and has the personality of a sarcastic old man.
-Whether he's here to keep an eye on them, or they are supposed to keep an eye on him, no one can say. Ao Guang certainly treats him like an old acquaintance, though.
West Sea:

-They are a bit tricky. West is associated with Metal, and the two Metal-aligned trigrams, Qian and Dui, represent Heaven and Marsh...which don't neatly map onto weather and natural phenomena.
-Then I had an idea. What if they have a natural affinity for heavenly bodies? In ancient times, the movements of stars are believed to affect weather, after all, not to mention the sun and the moon.
-This affinity can be figurative——their lineage has a strong relationship with the stellar deities of the 28 Lunar Mansion and Dipper Mansion——or literal.
-Like a natural talent for divination and astrology, predicting the future from the patterns of stars. They are no governors of fate, unlike the actual Star Lords, they are just fate's weather forecast guy.
-This puts them in an awkward position, though: the stellar gods act according to the Jade Emperor's orders, some of which are very much secret and beyond their clearance levels, but the best scions of the West Sea can just infer it from the movement of stars alone.
-Which makes them obsessed with proving their loyalty, as well as enforcing a draconian standard of secrecy, just so they wouldn't get into trouble for knowing something they weren't supposed to know.
-Even more rarely, they can harness the power of astral light. Most of the time, such light is of lunar nature——Star Lord Taiyin also holds sway over the ocean's tides, though it is an easily forgotten power.
-But sometimes, that light comes from a fiery, lively, or ominous star, and the power that results is just as temperamental as their stellar origins.
-Enters Ao Lie, Third Prince of the West Sea, who has highly potent fire powers despite not being a South Sea dragon, and became the subject of some rather tasteless gossips about his parentage the moment it awakened.
-All dragons love their pearls: it's kinda like an ordinary yaoguai's "inner core", an orb of solidified Qi that can be spit out and store separately from the body, but much more powerful and culturally significant.
-Well, the West Sea dragons use their pearls in the same way a Feng Shui master uses their geomantic compass, or a Zhou Yi diviner, their turtle shell and copper coins. The ones left behind by venerable ancestors are especially treasured, believed to lead to clearer insights and more reliable readings.
-Through that lens, Ao Lie's burning of one such pearl is the equivalent of descrating the dead + destroying a priceless, irreplacable supercomputer.
-Intentional or not, to a lineage that is so serious about their discipline, taboos, and absolute loyalty to the Celestial Host, it is enough to warrant death.
-To no one's surprise, they are the diplomats, the inter-department coordinators when it comes to weatherly business. Not just between relevant celestial bureaus like the Thunder and Water Bureaus, but also between local dragon kings of rivers and lakes.
-As a result, the West Sea lineage is the most open to marrying non-oceanic dragons, even though these are often out of practical and political needs.
-That's my explanation for why, in JTTW, Ao Run's nine nephews either guard rivers or work for JE/the Buddha. The West Sea lineage has really turned nepotism into an art form.
North Sea:

-In JTTW, we know that they have Cold Dragons that can chill stuff. It is certainly not too much of a stretch to imagine them as the ice-and-snow specialists, the ones you summon when you are sick of the heat or need to insta-freeze something.
-Historically, the "North Sea" in Chinese texts refer to Lake Baikal. However, I think it is cooler if their palace is literally in the arctic zone, under the ice caps.
-Instead of garden-variety shrimp and crab soldiers, they have lots of cultivated marine mammals. And elite legions of belugas and narwhals and bowhead whales.
-The smallest and most isolationist lineage also carries the grimest duty, as border patrols and prison wardens. Not only is the North Sea a hotspot of rifts that lead to the Underworld, it also conceals the portal to the Evil-Vanquishing Mansion of the North Pole——realm of Emperor Zhenwu, Lord of the North.

-Kind of like the Lord Father of the East and Queen Mother of the West, he is the sovereign of the northern direction and the Water element, as well as the direct superior of Xuanwu, one of the Four Divine Beasts.
-And his job? Subduing demons. The Evil-Vanquishing Mansion is basically a fleet of giant, hollowed-out icebergs, packed to the brim with powerful demons, ghosts, and rogue immortals.
-Any prisoners that make an unlikely escape will emerge into the North Sea, where the vigilant army of the dragon king awaits. However, that is not their main duty; it is the Eye of the North Sea that they swear to eternally guard.
-And the prisoner of the Eye is none other than Shen Gongbao, the infamous traitor of the Chan Sect who was behind most major conflicts in the War of Investiture.
-It was said that, though his body was stuffed into the Eye of the North Sea as punishment, in the end, his soul still gets deified as a minor water god.
-However, if there is only a mindless body left in there, why the need for such heavy security? Only the most experienced elders and veterans are allowed to go into the Eye's vicinity to check on Yuanshi Tianzun's seals, and repeated visit by the same people is strictly prohibited.
-Perhaps, instead of a split of soul and body, deification has split the soul itself: one half is exorcised of all the undesirable qualities, the other left to stew and simmer in them until it mutates into something unrecognizable.
-Such is the rumor among the North Sea's younger scions. But folks will make up anything to pass the time in those long, cold arctic nights, and whatever the truth is, it doesn't matter, as long as the seal still holds.
South Sea:

-Their element, Fire, is directly opposite to the North Sea's; much like the Cold Dragons, the Fire Dragons of the South Sea are heat specialists, creators of droughts and wildfires as well as bringers of warm winds.
-And their fire is a peculiar variant of Earthly Fire. Unlike Heavenly Fires, which draw from the blaze of the Three-legged Sun Crow, or the True Fires immortals used in internal alchemy, Fire Dragons channel the power of earth's flaming veins: that is, undersea volcanos and thermal vents.
-Though they usually display their power in less flashy ways——steam clouds, a playful whiff of sulfur, a blast of warm wind on a winter night, a Fire Dragon fully on the offensive is just like a mini live volcano, unleashing streams of magma and scalding smoke clouds.
-When dragons are mentioned as one of the Eight Classes of Demigods in Buddhism, more often than not, they are from the South Sea lineage.
-Like, the most popular Bodhisattva in Asia, Guanyin, resides in the South Sea. It's all but granted that the local dragons would also be heavily influenced by Buddhist teachings, in the same way their northern kins are drawn to the entourage of Zhenwu.
-Fun fact: the imagery of dragons has appeared in Chinese art since the Neolithic period, but the specific worship of dragons as gods of the Four Seas is a result of Buddhist influence.
-Prior to that, the gods of the Four Seas in the Book of Mountains and Seas are all beasts with human faces, wearing snakes as earrings or standing on a snake.
-And in Sui-Tang era works, some variants merged the Four Seas gods with the Four Directions gods of ancient times, and said that the god of the South Sea was Zhurong.
-A.k.a. the fire god that defeated Gonggong (in the most well-known version of the tale), who, being the sore loser he is, went and knocked over the sky support pillar with his head. Thus, Nvwa's patching of the sky.
-Legends of the South Sea lineage claim that the Fire Dragons draw their power from Zhurong's embers, and their king is descended from the two dragon mounts of the primodial fire god.
-To the outrage of more traditionalist dragons, they often intermarry with Nagas, the serpentine water gods of the Western Lands. Guanyin's dragon girl attendant is born of one such union, between the Naga lord Sagara and a princess of the South Sea.

-Their palace is located inside an underwater volcano, said to be the remnant of Zhurong's great forge. Giant tube worm gardening is a popular hobby among the South Sea nobility; however peculiar it may appear to outsiders, these colorful creatures thrive in the union of Fire and Water, much like the lineage itself.
(Pictures of the Four Dragon Kings come from Nezha 1979.)
(The animated film makes the dragon king of the West a black dragon, and the North, a white one, a reversal of the colors traditionally associated with the two directions——West = White, North = Black.)

I don’t know what came over me but I drew this a long time ago as the antithesis to my “Fell!Sonic” in relations to turning Undertale AU’s Sonic.
Well, behold. Fell Anti-Sonic! Scourge with Sonic’s personality but not his goals. But don’t call him that name because that’s NOT his name! It’s Sonic The Hedgehog, peep it!
A megalomaniac who has perfectly curated and cherry-picked everything and everyone around him to his ideal perfection right down to his entire planet. Even himself. He saves in the pursuit of power and so everyone knows he’s the goodest guy there is; indisputable. Grade-A manipulator and lowkey sociopath smarter than his Doctor. A 300+ IQ means nothing, it only shows the capacity at which you can think— not how much you actually do. And Sonic sure thinks a helluva lot more than that wannabe smart guy.
After a certain event early in his vigilante career his colors inverted and granted him more Chaos Energy than before his already great amount. Hence the black markings. Giving him capabilities over time and Chaos, though, usually the more he moves and the longer he’s in battle. He can do a lot of the things Shadow can do in his own unique font.
This way he has used his powers and exponential speed to conquer his cosmos and other alien species (Such as the Wisps), as well as the unique dimensions/universes connected to his Moebius via Warp-Rings and other portals or natural Chaos phenomena.
All linked to the Freedom Fighter HQ (Specifically: The Resistance, HQ) as a central point. Almost like its own No-Zone— complete with its own “jail”; a portal where banished are thrown (into an abyssal zone) that have had the misfortune of annoying Anti-Fell. Currently his Doctor resides in his own special “jail”..
Most of his relationships are toxic to a degree. Gotta keep these deployables in line, yaknow?

How to learn to understand rock music. Part I
#How to learn to understand rock music📌
Never give up, this motto is most suitable for becoming a music lover.

Jimmy Page, Eric Klepton and Jeff Beck - the guitar trio of hard rock
Good musical taste is one of the main signs of a person of culture. But it is not so easy to master it. It's about the same as learning to play the piano. It is easy to master the game of the fa, but it is very difficult to learn how to play well.
Rock is already something from the category of classics, like jazz or blues, which have already firmly moved into the category of chamber art. Rock requires fine tuning, good audio, vinyl rustle, vintage format - longplay.
If the song "comes in" it's not enough. She always has a performer, and when he says he grew up on Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Deep Purple, look at the root. A real musician can say that to please his fans and respect his widely popular colleagues. For example, if Beck Hansen says that he was inspired by the music of Karlheinz Stockhausen and the band CAN, it will mean absolutely nothing to most of his fans. But the names Sonic Youth and Grandmaster Flash, this whole mix of punk and hip-hop, which Beck's efforts turned into a lo-fi direction, are already closer to understanding by the masses
youtube
The situation is about the same with Led Zeppelin. The No. 1 rock band among the bands of all time did not appear from scratch. Zepp's brain Jimmy Page went through one of the best guitar schools in the world, playing with Jeff Beck in The Yardbirds, and Eric Clapton was previously in this band. By the way, when Clapton left, he recommended Page instead of himself, who, satisfied with his session earnings, offered his friend Beck to the group. But when Page finally appeared in The Yardbirds in 1966, he only got the bass position. Temporarily.

The Yardbirds,1966. Paige and Beck are standing in the center.
Then, after all, the great guitar tandem of Beck Page took place. In this configuration, they recorded one of the first hits in the genre of soft rock "Happenings Ten Years Time Ago".
Note that the bass part was performed here by a future participant Led Zeppelin John Paul Jones, in place of the temporarily absent full-time bass guitarist Chris Drey.
It is worth pulling Jeff Beck's guitar string and we will reach the real treasure of classic blues and rockabilly Imelda May. Jeff Beck invited her to his famous, freaky jam at The Iridium Jazz Club N.Y.C. in June 2010.
youtube
If we delve into the history of The Yardbirds, then we come to a whole tree of musical phenomena that determined the emergence of hard rock and early heavy metal.
Thanks for attention.
And the continuation of the column about the search for good rock follows...

You should infodump abt your ocs....tell me as much as possible.... (ʘᴗʘ✿)
Aww why thank you 😊💕🌈
Unfortunately I don't really have any in depth information as I either haven't developed or updated any of my babies yet but I suppose I can go ahead and represent the concepts I made for the future crew so I can dump some fun facts and random ideas that have been running around in the back of my mind about them as of late.
Info Dump and Concepts can be found below the cut!
Silver the Hedgehog
Starting with everyone's favorite psychedelic cowboy from the future -
- Is a young adult in the concept art. - In my current primary headcanon for the franchise Silver is the biological grandson of Sonic and Shadow cause canon be damed and I swear their fanonical son is the living embodiment of Silver's Daddy. (Sorry Shadilver/Sonilver fans but in this house we roll with the concept of Sil having an existential crisis after nearly erasing himself from the timeline by unknowingly attempting to kill his grandfather.) - His Dad is a Hedgehog who goes by the name of Castor. (Will be delving more into him again at a later date so I can answer all the questions over at the @sonic-fankid-showdown I missed out on once I've whipped up his ref sheet.)
- Is a certified Bi Trans Man with a preference for Men 😎👌🏳️🌈 (Currently single cause I don't really ship him with anyone these days on account of the guy being a living paradox who more than likely is related to at least one of 3 other main hedgehogs of the franchise although not confirmed. Can totally get behind Espilver and Silvaze even though I headcanon Blaze as a hardcore Lesbian now and days.)
- Though unintentional this particular iteration of Silver can telepathically communicate with someone through his mind if he has a close enough bond with that person to subconsciously form a psychic link. This often results in the recipient randomly being suddenly bombarded by his innermost thoughts and dreams which in turn can cause some scare and confusion until they realize what’s going on. Said ability also allows for Silver to read said recipients mind if given permission to do so. (It should be noted that this ability is the genetic result of his father’s ability to enter one’s dream.)
- Highly considering giving him a pink aura over his canonical blue/turquoise one for the sake of aesthetics but we’ll see which I like better once I get around to updating his design. May even give him a few stars that light up when using his powers as well. 😉
- Would LOVE to craft him his very own companion such as a Chao or a Flicky! Currently stumped on what kind of companion to give him though. 😔
Rayne the Husky
Next up we have the gal behind the blog in Sonic form herself -
- As per the case with all my current sonas, Rayne's name originates from the word Rainbow because Rainbows are a natural phenomena I've loved since I was a kid for reasons I'll save for anyone who may be interested in hearing them at a later date. Despite her names origins however the name Rayne primarily serves as a representation of her water based abilities and reflection of her radiant personality. (Fun fact! This iteration of the name Rain means Counsel/Friend! Additionally her friends call her Ray for short. This is not to be confused with Ray the Flying Squirrel.) - Her Black Knight counterpart goes by the name of Bowyn as a nod to one of the main protagonists from one of favorite childhood films, Dragonheart. (I'm not joking when I say I've adored the name Bowen since the day I first watched the movie.)
- Why a Husky? Cause they're my favorite dog breed and my good old friend @faecaptainofdreams once pointed out how I strike her as a puppy on account of my eccentrically sweet and loving nature so you can pretty much thank her for that. (Psst! You should totally drop the Captain a follow and commission her if you can! I promise it will totally be worth your while. 😉)
- If it weren't already obvious Rayne posses the power of Hydrokinesis as a result of my Zodiac Sign, the Scorpio, being heavily associated with the element of water although I'm considering expanding her abilities to be more stormy in nature once I get around to finalizing her design. Regardless of what I decide, what I can say with certainty at the very least is that she has the miraculous ability to heal others though it only really works on physical injuries and even then it's not exactly full proof but it has been known to be quite the life savor none the less. (Because of this I can easily imagine Rayne becoming Blaze's rival if they were to ever meet. I have been looking into giving her an IDW counterpart for people to use in more canon material if they so wish so perhaps I'll explore the concept more for that universe if and when I decide to do so? Should probably catch up on the comics first though as it's been a hot minute since I've last read them.)
- Not only is she taller than Silver as a result of Dogs naturally being bigger than Hedgehogs but they're also older than him by a few months which realistically checks out as I was born 6 years before 06 came out. (It should be noted that regardless of the context the two will forever be close in age to serve as a reflection of how much I've grown up alongside the Sonic franchise and call back upon some fond childhood memories of mine that just happen to be closely tied with Silver's character.)

- Identifies as a Bi Demisexual with a preference for Woman/Enbies thus making her and Silver Bi Buddies 😎💖💜💙🤘 (Is also a single pringle at this time to reflect my current relationship status but I'm always open to giving her a partner in the future should I ever stumble upon the Shadow to my Sonic to ship my sona with theirs otherwise this canine ain't need nobody to be happy!)
- The initial name for her Super form is Harbinger, a title I was inspired to take on after a dream I had a couple years ago where I had to save the embodiment of death itself from being erased from existence, but this name may be retooled to use for a potential powered up form caused by the chaos energy her companion, Rook, emits due to their association with death. (Stay tuned as I will be covering them here shortly!)
- Although I have yet to learn how to play myself, jamming out to her favorite rock songs on the guitar is one of Rayne's favorite past times! (Speaking of rock songs I like to think that she has merch from Sonic and Shadow's days as rockstars! Considering they're his grandfathers Silver can't help but raise an eyebrow whenever she parades around the base in Sonadow attire.)
- Enjoys taking a good photoshoot of/with her loved ones so that she'll always have physical memento of her memories with them to hold onto even long after they're gone.
- Often refers to Silver as a Cowboy because he sounds just like one to them. (No really! I swear Pete Capella Silver sounds like a Cowboy especially in the Adventure Tours storyline from Mario & Sonic at the Vancouver Olympic games for the DS which just so happens to by my initial introduction to the character as opposed to 06 as I wouldn't be introduced to the game til 7th Grade.)
Rook the Reaping
And last but not least the spook birb with quite the dapper plumage -
- Thanks to my previously fore mentioned friend, I was inspired to create Rook after she suggested I take the symbolism behind the Robin for myself upon coming across a striking species hailing all the way from Australia simply known as the Scarlet Robin. That and I was pretty obsessed with Flickies at the time and figured it'd be fun if my sona had a Flicky companion considering how underrated they are. (Did you know? Robins share a lot of symbolism with the Scorpio as both entities are often associated with Death, Transformation, and New Beginnings.)
- Rook was chosen as a namesake as I felt the name's meaning, being one with the dark hair and raucous voice, suited what I had in mind for their personality pretty well. (Funnily enough Rook just so happens to be the name of a type of Corvid. It's also well known as a Chess piece lol)
- In Black Knight Rook is a Dragon of the Wyvern variety whom I've yet to come up with a proper name for although considering Bowyn's name is a nod to Bowen perhaps their Black Knight counterpart should serve as a nod to Draco? That would make the most sense.🤔
- Their species is referred to as the Reaping because they were initially a sub species of the Flicky with enough built in Chaos Energy to transform into living weapons thus giving them an association with death although I’m considering going ahead and making them their own thing both within and possibly outside of the Sonic universe.
- That’s right baby!! Rook can low key go Soul Eater mode and transform into a literal Bident which I chose due to the weapons association with the planet Pluto which just so happens to be one of Scorpios ruling planets next too Mars. (Pluto is the planet I align with more personally if it weren’t already obvious and YES I CONSIDER PLUTO TO BE A PLANET NOW BITE ME!! 😤)
- Coming back to my earlier point on making them their own thing but I’m looking at giving Rook’s species more Corvid like anatomy and an elongated tail not too unlike a lions but with feathers on the end of it to further differentiate them from the Flickies who are more tropical like with Parakeet/Parot traits in my mind.
- Rook doesn’t really have a defined gender so I typically use They/Them pronouns for Them. Because of this I’m looking at making the Reapings more androgynous in nature. Furthermore Rook may be getting a Winter Coat based off of the Female Scarlet Robin which would really supplement my previous idea.
- Sadly as a result of their uncanny abilities, Reapings are often poached and smuggled across the planet to be used as mere objects in war and criminal activity often leading to a life of abuse for these poor magnificent creatures that has caused a sharp decline in numbers of the species throughout the years. Unfortunately Rook was one of many who fell victim to such illegal trades and would be put through the worst hell imaginable up until the night they were miraculously rescued by Rayne who just happened to be in close enough proximity to hear their mangled cries thus causing a chain of events that would lead them to Silver and in turn ignite the beginning of a beautiful friendship between the three of them.
- This traumatic experience will understandably cause them to act pretty hostile towards the two Gaian’s at first, often leaving behind some nasty scars, but after enough time, care, and patience Rook will slowly warm up to the pair and grow close enough with Rayne in particularly to allow her to call upon their weapon form when needed however out of respect and just being more pacifistic leaning in nature she only ever calls upon them as a last resort.
- Has a hauntingly beautiful voice and can often be found singing alongside Rayne during one of her jam sessions, creating a harmony that really walks a fine line between radiant and eerie.
- Is pretty mischievous in nature and is known for giving folks quite the jump scare especially on Halloween, one holiday they LOVE to celebrate alongside Rayne. (Would like to get around to dressing them up as Vash and the Punisher from Trigun respectively.)
- Probably has a skull & bones collection sitting around somewhere that never fails to creep Ray out. Not to worry though! The pile usually consists of fragments from other animals of a relatively small stature as well as the occasional knick knack or two.
- Their particular species was used during the creation of Project Shadow in my primary headcannon.
Ok this turned out to be a whole lot longer than I originally anticipated so hopefully this will suffice otherwise feel free too shoot any additional questions my way and I'll be sure to answer them to the best of my ability after Valentine's Day! Btw I've yet to come up with a good team name for the three so if anyone has any suggestions for a good teammate as well as the perfect species to use for an additional please feel free to send them my way! Oh and should any of ya'll decide to draw the crew on your own time please be sure to let me know as I plan to update their designs at some point this year and would like to have a variation of any work I receive of their conceptual designs in near future featuring their finalized designs. Thank You.

Gerard in Sonic 3 will be, at youngest, 110 years old, no less.
Is unlikely a scientist as busy as Gerard became a granpa in his 40's. Especially when his sons are as busy as him. Possibly he might have became a granpa in his 50. Maria could have been about 10 when shadow was created, so 60 years old.

Fair 60 years old carooon man. Wrinkles, but he still look healthy.
Now how is possible in Sonic 3 Gerard is still alive? And especially kicking?
Well, Shadow was created for researches on immortality. He should have been a cure against incurable diseases but in all different stories and interpretation of this, either he failed or he had no time.
What if Gerard became immortal thanks to Shadow? Shadow being successful in his purpose can be a new territory to explore. And what if Gerard became mad not only because of Maria's death, but also because of immortality? Shadow himself, who is born as immortal and is still just a kid is not the healthiest individual. What happens if you aren't immortal but you choose to become as such? you might become crazier and crazier.
Immortality also does means: Loosing all your loved ones, seeing the extintion of your favourite pets, seeing the world change beyond your comfort, being exposed to natural phenomena such as glacial periods that would destroy your territory and dramatically change your landscape, being exposed to gamma rays when a nearby star blows, seeing the real end of the world, remaining alone, feeling the ill effect of the death of the Sun, Earth becoming a rouge planet, fusion between Andromeda and Milky Way, not comforting it you're in the middle of this. Perhaps you can go on another, younger planetary system and restart but is still not your home. And to have a decent life someday you'll need to conquer time, not only space. See how crazy is this? And it is even scarier if you think is all your fault.
People fear Jim's cartoony interpretation of his character. I believe it can work on Gerard. It will make him more unsettling i guess.

Sonic HRT 3 - Meds
First - Previous - Next
I had to come up with some rad custom meds for this HRT! And, yanno, just a literal fuckin' Power Ring!
^_^ I actually really don't like "technological" origins for rings, I tend to feel them as natural phenomena that happen on Mobius. ^_^ I also feel them as things what can heal you from nearly anything, and/or be used to amp up your powers at need, and not just fuckin' currency, soo...
Chaos Cola is there too, because I felt like it!

issues and inconsistencies in "khaos reigns" [part 1, probably] :
i already have a post speed-reviewing/critiquing ‘khaos reigns’ and i touched on the sektor parable via a reblogged post, but grrahh, i still have tons of thoughts, questions and comments about the narrative and i need to excise them from my soul so here are some of them. apologies for any spelling mishaps or inconsistencies i may have missed. spoilers below, of course :
- the new era being — essentially — a multiverse, totally cancels out the idea of kronika being THE titan of TIME itself. her timeline was the ONLY one. i know that they tried to explain this away by saying that the fight between liu kang and shang tsung for the hourglass in mk11 was apparently so powerful that it broke the space-time continuum, but still! the way mk1 ended and how ‘khaos reigns’ continues the story basically takes away from the gravity of her position, and the weight of what it means to be the keeper of time. kronika painstakingly tinkered with the realms to achieve a golden balance, but now, since basically everyone and anyone can be a titan, liu kang's sacrifice seems moot. everyone just opens a portal to anywhere and everywhere and does whatever they want to his timeline. he may be reluctant to touch the hourglass out of fear of going insane or mucking things up, but the writers sure don’t mind i guess lol!
- according to titan havik, ‘time crystals’ come from geras (because he’s the only one to exist in all timelines), and they function in a similar way as jinsei (only jinsei is the 'essence' of the realms). so does that mean jinsei isn’t a thing anymore? or are the time crystals the ‘jinsei’ for the alternate timelines? what do they even look like? the needles in geras' back look like they are holding the same fluid that was injected into bi-han, so i'm confused by how they were extracting anything from geras at all...
i wouldn’t really care about this normally, but since they went to the trouble to bring back the kamidogu and insert a weak explanation from havik about the usage of these phenomena, then why not give us the proper exposition? i guess they didn’t bother because the kamidogu are essentially just infinity stones (‘the avengers’) or chaos emeralds (‘sonic the hedgehog’). hm, veryyy creative plot device…
- the scene with sub-zero and havik talking about the time crystals and kamidogu should have been longer. noob saibot's transformation was too rushed and havik’s motivations for corrupting him aren’t there. why didn’t we get sub-zero’s final stand fight scene either? it would have made sense to show that: giving havik a reason to actually keep sub-zero and turn him into a henchman (because of his formidable kombat skills and cunning to follow him into the portal, perhaps) and it also would have helped flesh out bi-han’s dimensionality, too (i.e. jumping into the portal to go after geras).
- geras and sektor should not have stopped noob from attacking liu kang at the end. bi-han needed to fight the fire god. it's such a long time coming. the pressure between the two of them has been building, bi-han’s frustrations have been surmounting and in that moment, he was ready to implode.
would he have lost the fight? yes of course, but that’s the point. bi-han needed to be humbled. maybe after liu kang defeated him in kombat, he might've cooled off a bit and been more accepting of help and willing to go to the temple of the elements instead of having to be sedated and taken there against his knowledge/will. and sektor being the one to break him out and tell him that liu kang 'abandoned' him and left him to rot -- while his last memory of being awake is his failed confrontation with liu kang -- does his redemption arc no favours. no wonder he went back to being 'bad.'
- i believe that sektor is not only bi-han’s enabler, but his full-blown sycophant. i don’t necessarily think she is 100% a manipulative mastermind, but if we ignore the bad storytelling going on, it’s plausible that she is a ticking time bomb of her own, and in her obsessive infatuation with bi-han, she is -- perhaps unknowingly -- sabotaging his opportunities to grow and confront his flaws and frustrations. and to be honest, they don't really seem 'romantically' involved to me, but rather have developed a strange codependency toward one another.
bi-han in mk1’s normal story mode clearly sought to be respected, maybe even revered, and acknowledged for his efforts, as well as exhibiting a keenness to take on more proactive role in leading earthrealm. to go from that to: “better to be feared than respected!” hmm… that doesn’t seem like the same man to me.
sektor’s constant smirking/lurking in the background of the cutscenes, however, makes me think that she’s been planting certain seeds in his head: encouraging him to embrace his negative traits (likely not even on purpose, just out of adulation), be the villain that everyone has already been painting him to be, and continue to isolate himself from everyone who might have ever stood up to his shenanigans or help him find a better path.
whether or not she actually has ulterior motives, it's clear to me that sektor prefers bi-han to be "bad," or unchanged, based on his presented mk1 persona. for her to be the first voice bi-han hears and the first person he sees when he wakes up after his mind is fixed... that's something poignant.
the man has been -- more or less -- 'lashing out' because of the departure of his brothers, and because for sometime now, he's been frustrated by his strained, untrusting relationship with liu kang. so, sektor is quite literally the only one he trusts and feels that he can trust.
but, this sort of 'all-in' attitude is, of course, toxic. when she says to liu kang that she stopped bi-han from attacking him because he 'would have gained nothing' from the challenge'.. uh, who is she to decide that? of course she wants bi-han to be restored: as in, made human again. but not redeemed. a 'redeemed' bi-han would be a different one than the one she has known, and a version of him that has been humbled (like if he fought liu kang at the end and neither her nor geras stopped him), or cannot be controlled (noob saibot) is probably not the one she wants.
she gives off: ‘i’m the only one that understands you’ vibes, but if he remains as noob, or if he were to be redeemed and healed as a better sub-zero, she cannot continue her power fantasy with him. to be honest, i think that would've been an interesting direction to take her character in: where in her mind, she has built up this idea of the lin kuei and the grandmaster, but in bi-han's fall from grace or in realizing her ambitions have diverged from his, she sees her disillusionment and in her delirium, proceeds full-force with the cyber initiative. THAT would have been one hell of a tower ending!
(side note: i also -- like many other people -- was almost certain that she would have looked down on bi-han in her tower ending, the same way she did with cyrax and kuai liang, and thus turned to embracing machinery and going full-on insane with her aspirations for the lin kuei. unfortunately, though... the writers introduced it only to then promptly throw it away.)
there is definitely more than meets the eye with all of this that is worth further exploration and analysis, as there are plenty of examples of her warped fanaticism (think annie, from ‘misery’ by stephen king), but it’s best saved for another post.
- there are too many contradictions between mk1’s base campaign and this dlc, INCLUDING tower endings and intro dialogue. i don’t know what is ‘canon’ and what isn’t anymore because technically, all of it is, if it’s in the game, right? but, it makes no sense for liu kang’s new era. what’s the point of introducing all of these plot twists when they don’t apply to the current timeline? from an ‘easter egg’ standpoint, it is what it is. but from a a lore/storytelling standpoint, it’s confusing and utterly inept. it seems silly to rewrite the lore while constantly referring to the 'old story' at the same time.
- NRS really do hate sub-zero and bi-han… but why? it’s clear that even in mk1, bi-han is shown to be a rather complex, emotional character that is grossly misunderstood and certainly not irredeemably wicked. i have a hard time believing that the guy who wanted to help lead earthrealm, who wanted to use his father’s teachings to guide him, who wanted to lead the clan alongside kuai liang first and foremost…. is suddenly a supervillain? who enjoys lying to his supposed ‘second-in-command’ (cyrax)? this contradicts mk1’s story mode so much (among other things) and it’s WILD. yes, he is extremely flawed, but it's clear that there is more under the surface than is being said. since it was a noob saibot-focused dlc, we needed more info about his upbringing, maybe; more insight into the bond with his brothers and even his subordinates, into his role as grandmaster... but it's clear that NRS can't wholly decide what they want to do with him. they villainize him in 'khaos reigns' except for his story chapter, and even that is nullified by his tower ending. another storytelling fail.
- another conspiracy theory i have is that this dlc seems like it was supposed to be longer and larger, likely including noob’s full character arc, too, because so many things are missing. some of the leaked dialogue from last year was not in the dlc at all, and lots of the lines in the cinematics seem to not really fit… almost as if there were cutscenes that used to be there but were hastily edited out at the last minute or something. also some of the audio mixing and animations are a bit off, if you pay close attention.
- in his first moments as noob saibot, bi-han is literally more human than he’s ever been throughout mk1. strange, considering in the beginning of ‘khaos reigns,’ he is SO out of character and almost comically villainous, but yet… after having his mind broken and then freed from havik’s mental corruption, he is forthright with liu kang, shows distress towards his situation with his hubris on full display, and then he fights alongside the allies to protect the timeline without claiming ulterior motives.
despite the khaos magic still coursing through him, he does his due diligence. but then… all of this gets tossed away when sektor frees him in his tower ending. what was the point in the vulnerable moment where he showed visible concern for how his actions compromised the timeline? or when liu kang lets him know that his desires for a different future aren’t an issue, it’s the ‘methods for achieving them?’ (that scene needed to be longer too, tbh) in short: why introduce the concept of bi-han potentially being salvageable if at the end he’s just going to continue being bad, if not worse off than how he began? the whole dlc was like a flat circle in terms of progression; that's how little happened in it.
- the hand on noob’s hip was supposed to be explained. in the last kombat kast (and i think in that xbox article, too) they said its purpose would be revealed in the actual dlc but… that never happened. aside from the missing fight scene with sub-zero and havik, we didn’t even get a glimpse at his transformation, either. he was just suddenly there… with the hand on his hip and all of these new powers. it would have been nice to get a teeny bit of info as to how exactly khaos magic works for noob, like imagine a scene where havik explains to noob what he can do now, how the hand and the shadow work in tandem and how much more powerful he is compared to how he used to be? it would also have been a chance to explain the random telekinesis, too.
- smoke really, really, really needed to have a chapter in 'khaos reigns'. i have a feeling — as i mentioned earlier on — that the dlc was originally going to be a bigger expansion, but some characters/scenes/dialogue were cut along the way; likely to drip-feed the whole story back to us in a trilogy of dlcs instead (taking notes from BUNGIE i see… ahem ‘destiny 2: lightfall’).
but i digress: smoke having a chapter maybe just before noob’s would have been amazing. it would have been nice to see his visceral response to bi-han’s transformation, as he has claimed to have idolized bi-han in the past and was/is hoping for reconciliation between the brothers. i personally think the brotherly bond between the three of them is the most interesting part of the lin kuei story in mk1, and it sucks to see this angle being completely abandoned when the dlc focuses around bi-han.
we needed MORE BACKSTORY! more info about their parents, their upbringing, bi-han’s obvious long-standing conflicts with his life's purpose, the true nature of their father’s death (what actually happened?), etc. and the dynamic between the three of them with bi-han as noob would have also been really interesting. smoke was absolutely necessary as a the vessel for the more compassionate approach to bi-han’s downfall and ensuing redemption (instead of sektor, who is obviously evil) and bridging the gap between scorpion’s mercilessness and bi-han’s malevolence.
- it's not havik, but liu kang who was the real hypocrite here, and it breaks my heart. first of all, stopping bi-han from killing titan havik in order to ‘save innocent lives’ is such a weak, oxymoronic explanation from liu kang. let’s not forget that he wiped out two timelines in the base game: titan shang tsung's and quan chi's. a bunch of other titans died at the pyramid battle too. liu kang even says himself that without shang tsung to ‘hold the timeline together’ it would collapse! the actions of the final chapter of mk1 were already enough to kill BILLIONS of innocents, yet havik is somehow an exception. actually, leaving havik alive would have been worse, considering he didn’t want to destroy or merge the other realms, but have them tumble into anarchy and khaos instead. bi-han was 100% correct when he said that they were 'not safe until he dies.’
- another problem i have with liu kang is that says he cannot leave his timeline to go help get geras (which by the way… geras is his closest companion and confidant, another powerful being like him who has been at his side for EONS). that left me with a huge, glaring question: where is liu kang’s urgency?
it is so unlike him to be this 'laissez-faire' (but that’s a discussion for another post). he says that he cannot go with them because the timeline would be compromised without him, but that is a silly excuse because:
1) his timeline is tainted anyway, because 'damashi' already messed with it, and the fact that concurrent timelines exist negates this idea that his new era can ever be truly 'safe' again.
2) titan havik leaves his timeline all the time with his cronies… he’s been collecting every geras and kamidogu, so why can’t liu kang? havik said he'd be back to inflict khaos after taking geras, so it wasn't like he needed to wait in earthrealm and twiddle his thumbs. it was GERAS, for god's sake. he should have been right behind bi-han going through that portal, the way they built up the bond them in the main story.
3) liu kang literally DID leave his timeline in the base story mode… the first time, he went to look for titan allies to fight shang tsung, and the second time was when he went to the pyramid to defeat him. he is essentially repeating the former raiden’s mistakes with this sort of approach to protecting earthrealm.
on one hand, raiden was slightly too impulsive and tried to intervene a bit too frequently, causing a negative ripple effect to those surrounding him. i get that liu kang does not want to repeat his — or kronika’s — mistakes, but doing absolutely nothing until your hand is forced and trying to evade all conflict by letting [terrible] events play out is not the way to be doing things. defend your timeline, liu kang!!! get up and get moving!!! just as raiden 'jumping the gun' had its own consequences, so does remaining overly-passive and slow-to-react.
- i like the character of liu kang and i was initially excited at the idea of a timeline reboot with mk1. liu kang is known to be humble, kind, genuine, understanding, compassionate: all of those hero-like qualities that we know and love him for. but that being said, why claim to reset the timeline if everything is going to turn out mostly the same, if not worse?
from a development standpoint, i understand needing to have certain things remain static, no matter what game or era we’re in. for example: raiden must always have lightning, mileena/baraka must always be tarkatan, sub-zero and scorpion must always exist, etc. fair enough.
but having bi-han not even make it a whole game without becoming noob? having shang tsung, shao and quan chi continue their plotting? how come some characters got a pleasant rework (reptile, sindel) but others are thrown so far under the bus and are poorly-utilized/represented (sub-zero, smoke, havik).
constants are needed, of course, but variables are also important too. and there are not enough variables in mk1 for it to feel like a 'new era,' and cheap, low-risk 'changes' are not an effective way to reflect it. at this point, the game should have just been called ‘mk12’, full stop.
- cyrax deserved better. she starts off as what we expected of her, based on her new character bio, anyway. she is loyal, but inquisitive. ‘free-thinking.’ she has no problem pushing back on bi-han a little bit about his explanation for kuai liang and tomas’ departure, and she obviously doesn’t get along with sektor and doesn’t mind talking back to her, either. she is defiant, but noble, as presented. but then…
she spends the rest of story mode groveling to scorpion: following him around like a lost puppy and begging for his forgiveness and receiving the brunt of his anger and spite (which was completely unwarranted and undeserved.)
kuai trying to hold her accountable for something that had nothing to do with her is crazy and really out of character for him, and because of this, her story arc was thwarted by her constant seeking of his approval and validation. the same way sektor’s reliance on bi-han takes away her arrogance, genius and austerity, cyraxs sudden flip from being honourable but discerning into being manipulated by scorpion is just so, SO unfortunate. both ladies deserved better than to simply be portrayed as the unsung loyalists to a pair of capricious, irascible men.
some insignificant [mostly nitpicky] honourable mentions :
- this was an observation made by gaming youtuber mike hollow who pointed out some telltale inconsistencies regarding believable power balancing: sektor’s camouflage, scorpion’s fire teleportation and rain’s ability to turn into water were all missing in this dlc. it’s like they forgot to include the characters’ defining abilities in the story at all. why weren’t they taking advantage of the cybersuits in the maze? using camouflage to hide from havik’s minions? where was scorpion’s kunai climbing rope? why did rain not turn into water to escape his crushing death? again, it's not that deep in the grand scheme of things, nor is it new to the franchise, but it's definitely something i noticed, as well.
- in that same vein: geras’ time freezing abilities could have stopped him from being kidnapped by havik’s minions. why didn’t he stop them? he casually stopped bi-han at the end from lunging at liu kang, and he had plenty of time to do it since sektor stalled the attack.
in sindel’s throne room, havik was going on a big, illustrious speech about how he was only here for him. isn’t geras on par with being a kind of divine being, considering he himself is a construct of time (i.e. made of the sands)?
perhaps his lack of reaction in that scene can be chalked up to just 'shock', but this is just another example of poor power balancing in mk1's story mode (and i say mk1 and not the other games because the current timeline has all kinds of titans and divine beings that are all fair game). another example of this would be: empress tanya being able to defeat noob, but noob easily defeats titan, kamidogu-powered havik. and -- if the khaos magic had something to do with it -- they should have shown that somewhere in the campaign.
- how come titan havik’s limbs suddenly stopped regrowing when noob fought him? is it because noob has khaos magic in him and thus, he can be defeated by his own powers, therefore stunting his ability to regenerate? they don’t actually explain this whatsoever, unless again: it is another misrepresentation of power scaling in the story, but it is what it is. (seriously though, we should have gotten a scene where havik explains to bi-han his new powers!)
- if bi-han and sektor knew that cyrax wouldn't go for the wedding attack (hence the pointless lie they told her about liu kang 'capitulating to outworld'), then why take her along in the first place? why even include her in their plans at all? this doesn't seem like the same cyrax that kuai liang was referring to in mk1's regular story mode when he said she would 'sooner abet' bi-han's corruption than follow him.
um... as soon as we meet cyrax, she is already weary of bi-han and it seems like she has been for a while, enough so for he and sektor to already suspect her lack of fealty. at that point, she shouldn't have even been given that suit.
(side note: AS SOON as they arrive at the wu shi academy, cyrax is already fighting against the lin kuei and going against bi-han's orders. when she comes down from the roof, she immediately eliminates two of her fellow lin kuei warriors before harumi is even captured. she was already over it even before learning about what really happened.)
it doesn't make any sense and does not corroborate kuai liang's observations from the main campaign. i feel like once more, this is another example of something being changed in this dlc somewhere between the initial leaks last year and the trailer drop this past july. it seems like there might've been more planned for 'khaos reigns,' but they got rid of it, or they're saving it for the next dlc (which i'm almost positive is the case, at this time.)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
there are a million more things that are running through my mind, and if it comes to it, i'll make a part 2 to this post. there is still a lot to be said about the dlc on a corporate/business level that may be worth touching on.
that being said: the game design, stages, animations, cutscenes, characters, etc. are all absolutely gorgeous! you can tell the ground-level developers really care about their work and that's amazing. c-suite and the 'narrative department' however...
in addition, i've still got some conspiracies regarding liu kang, kuai liang and also... the khaos magic! has anyone out there played batman: arkham asylum? does anyone remember the TITAN VENOM? yeah, i have a feeling that the writers are doing some borrowing from other IPs beyond the obvious comparisons to the avengers (because, of course). the rabbit hole gets deeper and deeper.
i will leave the bi-han analyses to the experts in the community. there is already a lot of discourse out there about what happened to him but all i'll say is this... he deserved his comeback, redemption and victory lap. but... he was bastardized. again. bi-han 1000% deserved his moment. JUSTICE FOR SUB-ZERO!
anyhow, if you made it this far, thank you for reading! xo
There are, I think, broadly speaking two main categories of OCs. Or rather, categories representing two ends of a spectrum. (This is mostly aimed at fandom, though you will sometimes see these phenomena in original works too.)
On the first hand, you have like, The Archetypical OC. The Original Character you make but they are the point: 'This is my ponysona, her name is Dreamwind, she's a purple pegasus with a spiral cloud cutie mark'. Same with your Sonic OC, or PJO camper, your Naturo ninja, etc, etc. The life blood of fandom, frankly.
At the other hand of the spectrum, you have the Functional OC. They are here to make the plot tick. The plot requires a lawyer; there is no lawyer in canon; I have made a lawyer. If they're likely to kick around for more than a scene, I will maybe pick 1-2 basic personality traits and a defining tick of some kind so that their dialogue isn't just boring expository stuff.
Functional OCs can take so many forms. The room-mate, the jerkass boss, the decoy love interest, etc.
And as I say, these are two ends of a spectrum. There are many character who exist at the more blurry place in between.
But the experience that inspired me to make this post. Is that moment of horror. The one where you look upon the Functional OC you created at the start of a story to just explain Who's Cooking The Food or whatever, and thirty chapters in you realise is now one of the main emotional pillars of the story.
#writing#fandom#it's SO funny it's like aw dang i did a characterization#and this DOES happen in original fic too#as i recall ART started as just a way to get Murderbot past tracking censors#and then evolved into like co-protagonist status besides Mensah
OKAY! It’s time for the Chimera Baby Lore Post!!
🌼 How did you come up with the OC's name?
In both a meta and non-meta sense, Chimera Baby’s name is probably the most notable part about them. The name Chimera Baby is a reference to m-flo and LiSA’s Tripod Baby, ft in the game Shadow the Hedgehog. For over 6 months that was her official non-official name, as I couldn’t decide on a name for her. I received over 15 name suggestions, but in July I ran a poll at which point she was dubbed Mira!
As it turns out, Mira happens to be the name of a binary star system. Two stars in a dance doomed to end in supernova—rather fitting for a chimera character, wouldn’t you say? I like to imagine Shadow was the one to name Mira something meaningful and space-themed like that, meanwhile Sonic named the other child something totally arbitrary (“His name is Mochi because he's white lol”)
On that note, I’ve also decided Sonic calls Mira “Chili” exclusively, because its silly and he would. So Mira, Chimera Baby, CB, and Chili are all names she goes by!
🌸 How old are they? (Or approximate age range)
I like to depict them anywhere from baby to teenager, but in their most recent incarnation I’d say they’re somewhere between 15-17
💖 Do they have any love interest(s)?
At the moment no. She’s generally too aloof and off putting for anyone to approach her with romantic intent, but maybe in the future….
🍓What is their favorite food?
Strawberries and Triangle Chao Fruit
⭐️ What do they do for a living?
💥 Do they have any hobbies?
Besides combat training, CB enjoys the occasional outdoor activity. Sometimes her friends goad her into a game of soccer (which she is an absolute beast at), but she generally prefers solo sports such as archery, rock climbing, or hiking. Sometimes her brother convinces her to fish with him, but she finds it pretty boring (but would never turn him down)
💃 What do they do best?
Mira excels at hand-to-hand combat. As the reigning champion of Chao Karate, Mira takes their martial arts training very seriously. They also possess exemplary control over chaos energy, and incorporates this into their technique. While they may not be as fast as their fathers, they make up for it with not just raw power, but an extremely disciplined technique.
Her skills also happen to make her an amazing breakdancer, but she’ll break your face if you ask her to demonstrate.
☀️ What is one of your OC's best memories?
A tie between making her baby brother laugh for the first time and the time she drew first blood for the first time in a fight with Shadow
🌧️ What is one of your OC's worst memories?
The aftermath of almost drowning as a child after she saved a chao friend.
✍️ Is their current design the first one?
For the most part—I did redesign their shoes because originally they were rocking some McDonalds drip.
💡What originally inspired the OC?
This post i made ^^
Basically its a mix of me poking fun at the phenomena of Sonadow fan-children all looking kinda similar, and this plush reminding me of actual chimerism in animals and wanting to create a character with that characteristic! Over the months my ironic love for her has grown into genuine fondness—so while she remains primarily as a parody, she’s also a character I’m having fun exploring concepts with <3 Much like both Shadow and Sonic the Hedgehog, you can take her as seriously or not seriously as you wish!
👾 What genre do they belong in?
PS1-era graphics Jet Set Radio game
🏳️🌈 What is your OC's gender identity and sexuality?
Non-binary and trans (you decide what direction). And she’s bisexual bc i love bisexuals <3
🍃How many sibling does your OC have?
One little brother Mochi—he is a perfect angel who is also her closest friend. She adores him, but you wouldn’t know from seeing them interact.
⚠️ What is the OC's relationship w/their parents like?
So I mentioned that Mira was reared in a chao garden, where her dads basically only visited once every couple days if not longer (Sonic and Shadow are not very attentive parents, go figure). However, this was honestly a perfectly fine arrangement as I headcanon mobian children don’t need the same level of parental contact as human children (Hell, Cream is kind of an outlier FOR having a present parental figure in her life).
That being said, I imagine Shadow spent more time with her when she was really young before stepping away, which made her really latch onto Shadow more than Sonic during that time. Especially seeing as Sonic is the most laissez-faire parent ever but simultaneously was the type to abandon her on a floating platform in midair with a trail of badniks so she can learn how to homing attack.
Much like her father before her, her latent Black Arms genes have caused her to develop a burning desire to destroy Shadow—a fact that Shadow seems strangely indifferent about. While this fact has pretty much wrecked their previous relationship, there are circumstances where Mira will put aside her goal and work with Shadow against a common enemy or towards a common objective (of course, this doesn’t stop her from trying to stab him in the back during these operations).
Her relationship with Sonic has remained mostly the same, with Sonic treating her much more like a friend or little sister than a daughter. They have lunch together at least once a month, and usually she’ll go to him for advice on any social interaction matter—conversations that have become much more frequent now that she’s begun to make friends.
💗 What do you like most about the OC?
I think I popped off with her design—chimerism is such an interesting concept and I loved balancing her two sets of genes without making it seem too busy. I also love her dynamic of trying to kill Shadow and how you would think her growing up in chao garden basically alone would have contributed to that, but that's not the case at all she’s just like that <3
‼️ Who is your OC's arch-nemesis or rival?
Shadow the Hedgehog is her self-proclaimed nemesis, but she makes a fair share of enemies and rivals wherever she goes due to her punch-first-ask-questions-later attitude. One notable rival is another OC of mine named Sauvik the Badger—another cold and brooding anti-hero much like her. Sauvik and Mochi are something of a team, but being a protective big sister she wants him to stay away from her brother. This generally leads to a fight that Mochi is inevitably forced to break up.
⏰ How long have you had the OC?
She was created in January of 2023!
That’s all! Feel free to ask any other questions and remember to vote for her here!
