The Good Omens S2 finale is akin to The Magnus Archives S5 finale in the sense that, instead of understanding both characters in the relationship were proposing the incorrect solutions but they were given no choices out of the mess, the fandom took it upon themselves to discuss Who Was Right.
It's about the world being grey and protagonists that refuse to understand that -- too stuck on their ideas of humanity/monsterhood or goodness/evil.
It's about characters not being able to break out from their abusive workplaces and the saviour complex they have. It's about a relationship where they both agree being togheter is fiercely important -- but for one of them, the world's well being weighs more and they can't bear to give up. It's about not being given a third choice, it's about not communicating properly, it's about humanity.
It's about escapism vs martyrdom. Denial vs guilt. ''No one can solve it, let's forget about it, it's all fucked'' vs ''let me try, maybe I can, maybe I can''. ''Don't ask me to give up on the world'' vs ''don't ask me to give up on our promises to each other''.
It's about obtaining power not for power's sake but because you can't bear the idea that I can fix it, please be with me as I fix it. It's about seeing your beloved making themselves responsible for a cause you already consider lost and thinking it's about rejecting you.
It's ''you betrayed me and i betrayed you. it's about us. it's about togheter, we promised''.

if I had a nickel for every story I experienced in 2024 with a major villain named Elias whose main motivation was immortality which he sought to gain through an unnatural force dwelling beyond reality yet ultimately originating from the suffering of real people, and said story's final installment revolved around all the major characters reaching a massive tower where the climax took place, which involved one of the main characters killing a loved one who had become the vessel of said unnatural force, and after the tower fell due to the events of the climax the corpses of two male characters were unable to be found in the rubble and thus they were presumed dead by the world, well, I would have two fucking nickels

"breakfast" a tma s5 animation thing
audio on:333
dawg can't even fry me an egg in this eyeconomy
[VD: A Magnus Archives animation done in orange and teal titled "Pusryčiai" (meaning: "breakfast"). Mellow music plays as Martin cracks two eggs into a frying pan. He turns away to throw the shells while the pan sizzles, and when he returns with a spatula, a "boom" sound effect plays as Martin recoils with comic disgust.
The egg yolks have been replaced by human eyeballs. Martin stares at them for a moment. He then pokes at the egg with the spatula, producing a squelching sound, and one of the eyes blinks with another gross wet sound. Martin goes from disgusted to comically sad and disappointed, and he fades away before the setting does. The video ends on the words "darė Skaistė" (meaning: made by Skaistė) and a quick shot of an eyeball. End VD]
ty @princess-of-purple-prose for the description, i edited it a bit too.

keep thinking about what a world post fearpocalypse where everything disappeared except everyone’s memories would even LOOK like. what does a society recovering from that collective trauma look like. if everything related to the fears just… disappeared, would society as a whole just decide to chalk the whole thing up to a collective bad dream?
would there be collective acknowledgement that it was a thing that happened? academic movements dedicated to the fearpocalypse as a historical moment? study of the fears? desperate former avatars trying to figure out how bring them back? attempted incarcerations of former avatars based on crimes during the apocalypse? former avatar support groups? attempted therapeutic groups specifically dedicated to certain fear domains or people most messed up by certain fears?
what does that look like for future kids? kids who were stuck in realms like callum brody’s? how does it look as it slowly seeps into the cultural zeitgeist of the people who never lived through it and into mythos? like shit y’all that’s a societal can of worms for the entire planet and i am fascinated by the idea of what humanity might make in the aftermath of that

The Magnus Archives Doodles, MAG 161 - 164
SEASON 5 BABY!!! I’ve finally made it!!
I loved hearing all the old tapes in MAG 161 and 162, God it was also good to hear Sasha’s (and Tim’s) voices again, I missed her so much. There were also so many funny and cute conversations happening in all these episodes that I can’t seem to decide which one is my favourite. Also Helen’s here!! Since MAG 157 I’ve just been itching to draw her again, I’m so happy with her design and she’s so fun to draw <3

Have I mentioned how gut wrenching the slow progression from "Jonathan Sims-- Head Archivist of the Magnus Institute, London" to "Jonathan Sims-- The Archivist" is?
These are Jon's introductions of himself. He had already had people simply calling him "The Archivist" way back in season one, but he never introduced himself that way. He declared his title of Archivist as what he saw it to be-- a job title and nothing more.
And then we reached season three and there was a gap where we had "Jonathan Sims, former Archivist" and the words were still spoken as one would a job title but with a certain sense of grief that was incongruous with the professional veneer.
And finally, the reveal of what the Archives were and what being The Archivist truly meant happened, and Jon stopped pretending-- even to himself-- that it was just a job. No, he was Jonathan Sims-- The Archivist-- and it was spoken with the gravitas and responsibility of a king's title. It was now part of who he was.
And then, season five, and it's no longer "Jonathan Sims--". It is merely "The Archivist". Because Jon believes his humanity to have died along with the world he was tricked into dooming. His person-hood is secondary-- and can perhaps be considered more of a job title now in a similar way to how Jon referred to being The Archivist in season one. In season five, Jon believes his entire being to have been consumed by the Watcher. The Archives and his job as the Archivist can no longer be seen as a job, or even as a part of who he is, because it is ALL he is. There is no part remaining of Jonathan Sims, because he is The Archivist first and foremost. He doesn't believe his own humanity great enough to be mentioned.
He is, of course, wrong. But it wouldn't be a tragedy if he didn't realize that until it was too late.

WHAT THE HOW--
asdfsdajfkaslfjl my friend is halfway through s3 of TMA and her guess for the podcast IS:
"Oh, I think there will be an actual apocalypse. They're not going to be able to stop one of the rituals. I think most of the archive staff will become Avatars or die. Maybe they won't though, maybe they'll get out of it and end up somewhere else, away from it all."
