Remus and Sirius please

Prompt- guilt, unforgivable action

Thanks for the ask, anon! 💜 Here's Sirius and Remus having a difficult conversation. I wasn't sure if you wanted me to describe the situation of the prompt or include the words into the text, so I did the latter since that was the writing prompt I set out to do originally.

Set in the summer between GoF and OotP. (And yes, I completely stopped counting words. This angsty drama takes more than 100 words.) Hope you enjoy!

With the Order meeting over, they remain in the kitchen, two glasses and a bottle of Scotch between them. Much like a candle that has burned out, their time to avoid an awkward conversation has passed. 

"You never tried to contact Harry," Sirius says. It's not a question.  

Remus remains silent. 

"You must have heard about how he grew up by now," Sirius continues. When Remus finally looks up, he is met by grey eyes cold as steel. 

Remus considers his words carefully before speaking. "After James and Lily died, I was a mess, Sirius. I thought Dumbledore knew what he was doing with Harry." 

Sirius narrows his eyes. "After everything James did for you, gave you his friendship, his support so freely, you never once thought to seek out his child, see how he was doing? Even from afar?"  

Remus swallows, looking at the amber liquid in his glass. "I've told you before. I travelled, changed jobs often. I could never stay in one place for a long time because of what I am. What could I have possibly done for Harry?" 

"You could have let him know of your existence. All he's ever needed is to have a safe adult he can trust." 

Remus looks away, shaking his head. 

"What would have prompted you to take such unforgivable action – or should I say inaction?" Sirius asks sharply. "Harry is all that is left of them. In all these years you could have done something for James and Lily's son – write to him, at the very least." 

"I taught him at Hogwarts. I tried to look out for him then." 

Sirius sneers. "Yes, that you did. And have you stayed in touch with him after that?" 

"You know we're not supposed to tell him anything – Dumbledore's orders." 

"How convenient, indeed." 

The glass in Remus's hand shakes and he places it on the table. "There was nothing I could have done for him. My own world collapsed! I lost everyone who truly knew me and cared about me in one day," he speaks gruffly.

"So did Harry." Sirius's words cut him mercilessly. 

"And whose fault is that?" Remus snaps, having reached his breaking point.

He recognizes his mistake right away. Sirius's cold fury entwines with his magic, causing the air to crackle. 

"I'm sorry," Remus says hastily. He downs his whisky, the liquid burning his throat but doing nothing to relieve the guilt gnawing at him. 

Miraculously nothing in the kitchen explodes, although the lights flicker vibrantly for a while. 

"It's too little too late, Lupin." 

Somehow, that cuts him the deepest.

gaul definitely got strongly reprimanded by management when she was doing her obstetrics residency for sedating an anxious father bc he was pissing her off. like. not dealing with that (injects man with sedative when he isn’t looking)

this is very true! and what if it was albanus. no sorry that doesn't match up with the fact that this is her residency... she might have done it more than once. somehow, people didn't notice a couple of times. she gaslit them saying that they passed out from the stress.

PROPER Sirius taught him whatever he could in those days. Magic was all right to use within the house where the walls were fortified with ancient wards, but he didn’t chance uttering a single spell around Harry outside of the cottage. Between the old walls, Sirius taught Harry how to recognize dark magical objects without touching them and how to cast a proper defensive shield. Outside of the cottage, he showed Harry how to swim—a requirement for any child who lived close to water.

TIGHT “Shh, darling, I’m here,” murmured Sirius, feeling the soft shake of the boy’s shoulders. He stroked the back of Harry’s head. “Thought you were dead.” “I was, in a way.” Harry pulled away, staring at Sirius hungrily. “But you’re back. And the Ministry—you’re going to be cleared soon. You’re free, Sirius.” Sirius had no idea what that meant, so he pursed his lips together in a tight smile. “Let’s talk, Harry.” “Where?”

ALIVE “Harry?” The weight of the last year fell upon Harry as if the adrenaline had worn off, leaving him weak. Sirius had died. Bellatrix Lestrange killed him. The last time Harry had seen him, Sirius looked on with mild surprise before falling into the veil, but now, by some bizarre occurrence in the universe, his godfather was alive again. “Sirius,” Harry said, slowly rising. “What’s going on?” rasped Sirius, looking around the room nervously. “What are you doing here? How did you—? Are—are you alone?”

IMPULSE Lightning cast another blinding flash over the pitch. Crested at the top of the stands, a black silhouette flickered against the sky—the silhouette of a huge animal—Sirius? Harry’s broom, as if by impulse, drifted towards the stands. But then, a frozen feeling curled in his chest, halting his breath.

I definitely had to go into WIPs I'm probably not gonna finish lol. The last two are from one that I started like two years ago where Harry gets transported into his 13-year-old body. "Tight" is a Slytherin Sirius lives fic (with a lil twist lol).
