okay, wait a sec. there's clearly a lot to be discussed about the umbrella academy final season. lots of messed up stuff, things just left hanging, events that occurred which were only given to us as one liners, without any further elaboration about what happened. but right now my biggest query is, how did the durango reach the earth?

the marigold reached it obviously because of reggie and his whole reset plan to bring back his wife, which i just have no way of logically explaining how that is possible, so i won't get into that. but from what abigail explained of founding marigold and durango, i can only assume that these were elements found solely on their planet, or world, or whatever. that world ended, and before it did, reggie sent some marigold flying over to the earth.

but why in the ever loving fuck, would he also send over some durango, which arrived in the most bizzare of places and forms by the way, when he was perfectly aware of the reaction the presence of marigold and durango near each other caused? it literally does not make any sense for him to send over such a volatile material to earth, where he's attempting to create a new life with the assistance of some sweet, glowing marigold.

and let's say he did this purely for the sake of scientific investigation, wanting to know why this element was so deadly. perhaps he wondered if the reactions it caused with marigold could somehow be weaponized. but that also doesn't make sense, because there was no active research taking place on or around jennifer. she was just the random girl found inside a massive squid, around whom reginald would later go on to form an entire town of brainwashed soldiers in order to prevent her from coming into contact with the marigold.

jennifer's presence is in no way helping reggie achieve anything. she is no public figure he would have trouble getting out of the way, though i'm sure no trouble would bother him in the least. she has no family, no big contacts as far as we know. her entire existence, as far as reggie and his goal is concerned, is redundant.

so why, in this timeline, does he just not get fucking rid of her? why, even if ultimately the presence of marigold is the reason everything keeps getting messed up again and again, does he keep that chunk of durango around?

and i swear to god, if the reason for this turns out to be abigail, because she went all like, "oh, she's just a poor, oblivious girl. let's let her be", i will literally reach inside 'the cleanse' to get that pasty ass couple out and unalive them all over again.

season 4 rewrite when? why did five kiss lila, why did five ultimately decide that the family was the problem. if this was normal season 4, five would be repluksed at the idea of kissing her , and he would find almost every other way to save the family because of his love to them…

Here is a personal klaus headcanon that I crafted partly for fun (trauma) and partly to fill a major plot hole.

So. You know how everyone died in the first apocalypse? Including klaus? Who is immortal?

Yeah, well, I think he DID come back to life in the apocalypse. Due to the extent of damage of his body (which really was not at all accurately portrayed in the show, because, um. FIRE. BEING BURNT ALIVE IN A WALL OF EXPLODING MOON DEBRIS) I believe it would have taken klaus 1-3 weeks to come back to life. By then, 13 year old five would have moved on from the site of the academy. Klaus would be left wandering the apocalypse, unable to die, thinking he was the last human alive*. Five would be thinking the exact same thing.

I want to kill myself for like thinking of scenarios where they came extremely close to meeting each other but never did. For example, them exploring the library where five found viktor’s book only a few hours apart.

Yep. That’s the headcanon!

A. Ben is wandering the apocalypse with klaus

B. Klaus’ ghostly abilities were so overridden by the sudden mass death of humanity that he can no longer access Ben (might be the better option here because that would be a lot of fucking ghosts for klaus to deal with)

so i finished season 4 of the umbrella academy, and let's pretend that nothing past the first episode happened. that jean and gene were just lunatics who got caught and that was the end of all keepers. that abigail wasn't a suicidal bitch. that there are no alternate timelines at all, and the now non-two faced mrs. hargreeves let the marigold reach our eight homies because that's where it belonged. that after getting their powers back via episode 1, the umbrella academy finally got back what they'd been missing the past six years, the lack of which was making their lives as bleak as they were, and now they're all fucking jolly, and everything's fucking fine.

because i'll tell you what's not, is that bloody bogus ending.

still a fun ride though, if you ignore the wretched 6 years, 5 months and 2 days.

Five & Lila: Enemies-to-lovers done right

As unexpected and controversial as the pairing of Five and Lila was for the final Umbrella Academy season, I have to say that the writers knocked it out of the park with the "enemies-to-lovers" development.

Now, was this romantic direction planned from the start? I highly doubt it. Even with their bathroom fight scene in season 3, with Lila obviously naked, I got absolutely no vibes of sexual tension. What I think happened was, since Castañeda and Arya broke up, the writers decided to spare them the awkwardness of continuing to play an on-screen couple, so they chose this trajectory.

When Lila and Five first meet, there is clear distrust and animosity between them, contrasting from her and Diego's bonding and quickening attraction. Five even threatens--and comes close to--killing Lila.

Then Lila's hostility grows when she learns that he's the one who killed her birth parents. After another fight, Five, calmly and reassuringly, says that he was acting under the orders of her adoptive mother, who arranged the hit and picked up the scared 4-year-old girl at the scene.

Come season 3, and Five now considers Lila as part of the family, even with Klaus pointing out how she tried to kill them a few days ago. But, of course, it's more of a begrudging allyship, seeing how the two still bicker and insult each other.

By the time season 4 rolled along, and we got the scene with Lila wiping away the sugar on Five's mustache, lingering, followed by Diego getting the wrong idea, I thought, 'Wait...' (The first hint that slipped by me was when he noticed her from afar earlier, like a scene out of a romance.) After that, I started anticipating more scenes between the two.

You can imagine my excitement by ep. 5, seeing two people who once despised and taunted each other now warming up to one another more and more, finally leading to a kiss. Yes, I had the actors' age difference in mind (Gallagher being over 18, Arya being in her 30s), but I still found myself adoring seeing Five being happy. After all, he'd grown bitter and cynical after spending over 40 years alone in a post-apocalyptic wasteland with an inanimate object for a companion, becoming a cold-hearted assassin, and only mainly showing his softer side towards Viktor. With the cottage core-like scenario at the greenhouse, I hoped that the series would end with the pair living similarly, like how Viktor tried to rebuild his life.

But then, I told myself to tamp those hopes down, considering what happened to every other relationship on this show: Viktor & Leonard, Viktor & Sissy (another unpopular ship I loved), Klaus & Dave, Allison & Ray (I was rooting for them in season 2!), Allison & Luther, Luther & Sloane (I was looking forward to them reuniting in this reset timeline☹️), and now, Diego & Lila. I'd recalled a quote from an article about Five having an "emotional arc" with Lila, giving himself a reason to live, and feared it meant that Lila was gonna get fridged.

The last 15 minutes of the show proved to be far worse than I imagined, leaving me and many viewers alike feeling empty inside.🙃For the first five episodes, I thought, 'This is enemies-to-lovers done right!' And then a chance for a satisfying conclusion to such an arc, along with long-suffering characters finding true happiness, was dashed away, just like the entire cast of Star Wars: Rogue One, and Kylo Ren and Rey in The Rise of Skywalker.💔
