…….
A whole hearted thank you.
Recently, a few of my works were included in a dynamically stacked exhibition entitled “Sequence” which was curated by the artist Christine D’Epiro Abbott for @ohioartscouncil @riffegallery.
The exhibition, which includes the work of 14 amazing Ohio based artists aims to showcase and celebrate the diversity inherent to the field of contemporary printmaking.
My contributions to this show included two installations and a print-based frame. animation. The installation and animation documented here were bespoke for this show and have never been shown before.
I want to very publicly thank @cdepiroabbott and @riffegallery for including me in this impressive show. It is an honor and a privilege.
Sequence is open until July 5th at the Riffe Gallery after which it will be traveling to the Medici Museum in Warren, OH.
please check it out if you are able. You will not be disappointed.
surest of sure good times!

Belgrade Serbia - Music, Galleries, History
Triangle of Serbian National Institutions Nikola Pašić Sq.– Elorna It will be fantastic returning to Belgrade! Mediterranean resort towns like Datça are healthy and relaxing, but after a rejuvenating stay, I’m happy to be back in a city. The trip from Tukey to Serbia will be tiring – Datça – Marmaris – Istanbul – Belgrade – but I’m not complaining. The worst part is packing heavy winter clothes…

Berlin city council says recipients of government arts funding will have to contractually reject ‘any form of anti-Semitism’, a move which many say will effectively smother Palestinian support.
The city would take the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance’s controversial definition of antisemitism, which includes overtly ‘targeting of the state of Israel, conceived as a Jewish collectivity’ and ‘drawing comparisons of contemporary Israeli policy to that of the Nazis’.

A Tale of Two Tonys
and Brian knows the difference 😉
Part Four of Four
It was suggested elsewhere in July* Brian confuses the Tonys’ roles. It’s also suggested one Tony entered the spotlight only when a(n imagined) narrative required a participant. (*Waited for today’s Happy Birthday 🥳)

Music agency wound down after discord over funding
A MUSIC organisation which helped Franz Ferdinand and Snow Patrol find fame has been wound down amid uncertainty over its financial future.
One official from NewMusic in Scotland (Nemis) has criticised the government and the Scottish Arts Council (SAC) for failing to give contemporary music the level of support of other art forms.
However, the SAC said Nemis had failed to provide audited accounts and a business plan, and pointed out that a number of its board members had resigned recently. It has already had GBP 100,000 of public money.
Nemis, which has an office in Jamaica Street, Glasgow, offers advice to musicians and bands on a one-to-one basis and through organised seminars, as well as helping with marketing and promotion. It also has had a pivotal role in the annual Musicworks convention in Glasgow.
Two years ago, it produced a promotional CD of Scottishbased bands which went to some of Europe's most influential industry executives at the MTVEurope Music Awards in Edinburgh, including offerings from the-then little known bands Franz Ferdinand and Snow Patrol.
But now the four-year-old development agency has said it has run out of money and it will effectively have to halt operations. Only its website, offering contacts and diary dates, will remain.
The agency has had arts council grants worth GBP 70,000, and GBP 30,000 in start-up help from Scottish Enterprise.
Alec Downie, new music development officer forNemis, said the body could not continue its work and was scathing of "elitism" in arts funding.
"In my view, the arts council is nepotistic and bureaucratic and, most of all, is out of touch with what is happening now. I would argue that the likes of The Delgados, Chemikal Underground, and Belle and Sebastian are culturally significant, but they (the arts council)would not.
"That shows the mentality of the people that control the arts here."
Scott Twynholm, of the Glasgow electro-pop band Hoboken said help from Nemis had proved vital. The band released an album last year and will release a single next month.
"Through Nemis, we appeared on two CDs which were distributed at the majormusic conferences throughout the world, " Mr Twynholm said.
"There is no way we would be in the position of recording our second album, or our new single, were it not for the help and advice Nemis has provided."
Tony McGill, manager of The Fratellis, who recently signed to Island records, said: "I have got the MD of Island to send a strongly worded e-mail to the SAC because the work Nemis does is crucial.
"When you are starting out as a band, you don't knowwhat to do, you don't have the contacts or the knowhow, and Nemis supplies all that. I am shocked this is happening."
An SAC spokeswoman said there was no doubt of "absolute commitment" by Nemis to its work, but the council was "a steward of public funds and needs to be confident that public funding is being spent to best effect in an organisation that can clearly articulate where it is going".
She said it was not accurate to say that Nemis's funds had been cut, as it was not given revenue grants, but one-off assistance. Neither, she said, had it officially applied for new funds of any kind, nor did it raise any of its own income.
The SAC statement added:
"Essentially . . . it is an issue of confidence: information requested has not been supplied - fundamental information such as audited accounts and a clear business plan.
"We are primarily concerned with the governance and structure of Nemis. It is unclear whether Nemis is a membership organisation solely or is a limited company purporting to represent the contemporary music sector in Scotland."
SUCCESS STORIES

A special commission for Hell’s art department.
"if you don't start working on this right now, I will pull out your insides and use them as wallpaper," said Grand Duke of Hell, Shax, to the unlucky, ink-stained demon in front of her. "Oh and add one for Furfur too!" Scared for their corporation, they quickly opened H.S. Paint and went to work on Hell’s first official Realm Portraits. Hours went by, fiddling with squares, triangles and most of all the bucket paint tool. Nervously hopping from one leg to another they presented the end results before the Dark Council.

A group of pro-Israel lawyers in the United Kingdom has accused The Glasgow International Festival of Contemporary Arts of discriminating against Israeli artists and performers by not allowing them to participate in Scotland’s biennial event that was held last month.
UK Lawyers for Israel (UKLFI) has called on the Glasgow City Council and the British Council — both of whom funded the festival — to launch an investigation into Glasgow International, the group announced on Thursday. The event, which took place June 7-23, is Scotland’s largest festival for contemporary art. It is held over the course of three weeks every two years across the city of Glasgow. The festival is managed by Glasgow Life, a charity that organizes cultural and sporting events on behalf of the Glasgow City Council.
On June 21, organizers of this year’s Glasgow International Festival of Contemporary Arts, who are also employees of Glasgow Life, announced in an open letter published on Instagram that the 2024 event would be organized in accordance with guidelines of the Palestinian Campaign for the Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel (PACBI) and the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions movement (BDS) against Israel. The organizers also falsely accused Israel of genocide and apartheid, and expressed their support for “Palestinian liberation.”
The open letter was signed by Glasgow Festival Director Richard Birkett, Open Program Convenor Siobhan Carroll, Curator Poi Marr, Assistant Curator Pelumi Odubanjo, and Festival Manager Diana Stevenson. All five of them also signed an open letter in December 2023 — two months after the deadly Oct. 7 Hamas terrorist attacks in Israel — that called for a boycott of Israel and falsely claimed Palestinians are being “assassinated” and “massacred by the Israeli military.”
UKLFI pointed out that Glasgow International’s boycott of Israeli artists and performers this year was in violation of the Equality Act of 2010, which states that it is illegal to discriminate against someone providing a public service by not providing them with the opportunity to publicize, promote, and ticket their performances and works. By not offering Israeli artists and performers contracts to work at or for the festival, Glasgow organizers acted illegally, the group of lawyers said in a letter written to the Glasgow City Council and the British Council.
“The staff of this arts organization apparently believe themselves to be taking the ‘high moral ground’ when in fact they are engaging in false slurs,” said UKFLI Director Caroline Turner. “Far from promoting equality or diversity, they are illegally discriminating against a whole race and nationality. We hope that their funders will take note of their illegal and discriminatory behavior and will ensure that this does not happen again.”

Who is...
Lady Athena?
Lady Athena is a #Hellenic goddess worshiped in Ancient Greece and beyond. Like many of the Ancient Greek Gods, Heroes and Lore, the story of her birth is not quite average. Zeus, mighty ruler of Olympus had received a warning, that one of his sons would take his throne & strip him of his power, as he himself had done with his father Cronos. So like his father, Zeus decided that cannibalism will solve his problem and swallowed his first lover, Metis, a beautiful Okeanide (Daughters of Okeanos and Thetys), while she was pregnant. Instead of bearing him the promised son, a wise girl, with the attire of a warrior was born from Zeus' head. Hephaistos, the disabled god of fire, metallurgy, and crafts came to aid Zeus as a midwife, effectively splitting his head open with an axe, to make way for Zeus' most beloved daughter, Athene, who stepped forth, with eyes of steal and fully armoured. If this is a special benefit of having a divine blacksmith midwife or a side effect of cannibal birth through your father's head is unknown.
Tumblr media
("The birth of Athena" - Vase painting from 555 - 550 B.C. by the Phrynos Painter - British Museum, London)
Little Athene however was soon sent to be raised and educated in the arts of war, by the God Triton, alongside of his daughter Pallas, who became her companion (read: potentially wlw lover). Training together, the two girls would fight against each other with sword and shield and both were so skilled in their doing, that Zeus started to worry about his daughter, interfering in their play. This startled Pallas so much that she missed to parry a thrust of Athena's sword and got lethally wounded. According to some interpretations Athena was so devastated about the death of her lover, that she took her name as her own, to immortalize her memory and henceforth was known as Pallas Athena, whereas other interpretations identify Athena as aromantic or asexual.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(1. Contemporary bronze figurine of Athena, taking the fierce stance of a warrior with her iconic Medusa shield, her helmet and spear.) (2. Alternative shield of Athene's sporting the owl emblem, a symbol of her wisdom and crest to the city of Athens.)
Pallas is also synonymous with the word "girl" which goes hand in hand with another epithet of Athene's: Parthenos, meaning "maiden". In other words, Athena was known as the "Girl Athena" or "Maiden Athena", implying that she was rather young. Despite her everlasting young age, Athena became known as the wisest and most skilled warrior. Unlike Ares, God of war, her skills lie particularly with wisdom, protection and defense as well as diplomacy and righteousness, with which she aided many Greek heroes like Hercules, Perseus, Achilles and Odysseus according to Hellenic lore. Being an INFP (MBTI type) myself, and therefore a diplomat, I always admired her for these particular traits and often seek her council, aid and guidance, in order to act thoughtful and not get carried away by heated emotions, especially in the face of conflict and problems. (I'm not always successful, but that's why we ask for help. 😂)
Tumblr media
("Athena Protects the young Hero" - Berlin)
Furthermore she is the patron goddess of arts and crafts, specifically those that serve the creation of useful objects and tools, but especially of crafts connected to thread and fabric. Notably she is also known as the Patron of Greece's capital city Athens, who sports an owl emblem in it's crest in her honour. The people of Attica chose her as such, after she gifted them with the invention of the olive tree, rooting the discovery of olives and their products in the hands of Greece, according to their lore. Furthermore she is known as patroness of Sparta, founder of Thebes and in association with the city of Corinth. Later Athena was also associated with Hygieia (goddess of health, cleanliness and hygiene) and the Hippocratic oath, a pledge physicians make before various healing gods to practice medicine and healing in a honourful and ethical way. Therefore Athena is also sometimes depicted with a serpent-staff, like Asclepios.
Tumblr media
(Athena as restored by Algardi - Museo nazionale romano di palazzo, Altemps)
Some animals & objects associated with Athene are:
The Owl and Serpent - symbols of wisdom
The Horse - symbol of equestrian skills
The olive tree - symbol of victory
Armour, Helmet, Shield and Spear - symbols of divine authority, protection, wisdom and strategy
Sphinx and Griffins - symbols of power, domestication and taming of the wild spirits, abundance
Well received offering for Athene are:
Food like bread, meat, milk, honey, cakes, barley meal, olive oil, fruit, wine and pure water
Olives and Olive Branches
Flowers, especially white roses
Spices, especially cinnamon
Burning or offering incense
Crystals, amongst others Sodalite, Marble, Shungite, Fluorite, Granite, Amethyst, Dumortierite, a number of quartzes, emeralds and opals
Dedicational work and worship can include:
Studying, reading and educating yourself
Promoting peace and seeking diplomatic solutions and conversations to resolve conflict
Arts and crafts, especially weaving, knitting, crocheting
Learn and practice martial arts
Educating or writing informational works

This is what voting proper Left wing created
My grandmas 1950s council house had kinda pretty much this, infact it had a woodworking room as well.
It's time we went back to having standards for living well. By law somewhere to play football and also have a nice garden with some front garden, as it's important. A family area so whom ever cooks is not on their own. Proper places to tidy away the everyday life. Sound insulated rooms for the chores. This as the standard the basics
Room for a proper family celebration meal
The bins away from the living and street
A decent sized hall so people can breathe
and Light

SPELL FOR THE END OF THE WORLD
I just put together this new version of a zine from 2020, with a new cover and new page configurations and I'm really excited about it! It's on my web store and going out to the Snail Mail Club next month! 🐌💌 My phone camera could not seem to get the colour of the cover quite right, but I promise in print, the text is more legible! (Made with support from CAFKA-Contemporary Art Forum Kitchener and Area, Canada Council for the Arts, and CBC/Radio-Canada. Thank you!)

hi! could you explain a little bit what you studied and if you did any apprenticeship before you got a job ? a little summary to how you got there ? i’m so curious (and i admire you a lot)
hiya!! sure!!
so back in high school i actually started volunteering at my local art museum when i was 16 (up until i graduated at 18). they had a program specifically designed for teens to volunteer at the museum (i gave guided tours, and helped plan events at the museum, and worked with kids 3-12 in a drop-in studio every saturday where they could make art of their own after looking in the gallery) <- not a lot of museums do this, but you can call and ask if they need volunteer docents for the weekends !! they’ll train you!!
then i majored in art history in undergrad (making sure to focus my courses in modern and contemporary art towards the end of my studies bc that’s what i wanted to do! also i took a LOT of french classes. as in i only needed a few credits to have a minor but the last class was so hard i dropped it) to give yourself a leg up, i recommend studying a language (italian, french, spanish, german) most jobs in ARH require at least a minimal reading knowledge of another language.
while i was in school, i got a job at my university’s art museum as a gallery assistant! (<- fancy way of saying i walked around the galleries and told people not to touch the paintings and answered their questions if they asked and made sure no one was trying to steal the art)
during the summer, i got a summer internship at an art gallery in the biggest city close to my house (bc i moved back home w my parents in the summertime. uni housing was crazy expensive) and that was the *most* instrumental. i learned how to write wall texts, how to install artworks, i made studio visits to artists, updated the gallery website, handled artist contracts, you name it! it was great experience!!
i also got involved in art history/fine arts clubs at my university! i was on the fine arts council at my uni which represented the art and art history department to the student senate and the university at large. and the art historical society.
then i got my master’s degree in history of art theory and display, joined the art historical society at that university, got a degree and entered my FLOP ERA OF THE CENTURY
and by that i mean, i was 6 months unemployed and moved back home w my parents flop era. no one would hire me ,, no one would even give me a call back to tell me they didn’t wanna hire me ,,, and then one day someone did !! rahhh!!!! and i got some of my research approved 4 publishing and now im here!!!! (i say this not to discourage you but to let you know that the job market for art history ppl is tough,, it has always been tough,, but if you love it, it’s never a waste to pursue!)
i would do a few things differently if i had a second go at it, just to get a leg up so here’s some advice that im giving but i DIDNT DO myself:
1) try to minor in something to give you a leg up! a language is good, marketing is good, public relations… something to make you stand out!
2) try to get things published as an undergrad or a grad student! get your research out there if you can (way easier said than done ik ik) have some things you can list under your publications tab on your CV
3) if you find yourself in a 6+ month jobless, flop era period like me, volunteer somewhere at a museum or gallery if you are able. i was bitter as fuck that i had a masters degree and would be working at a museum for free when i needed money so i didn’t do it ,, but when someone finally calls back and you get an interview and they ask what you’ve been up to recently ,,, telling them you spend your time volunteering in museum spaces and working in your desired environment looks so much better than saying “i’ve been job searching” i promise !! (<- also just recognizing the extreme privilege i had to just stay at home and look for jobs in my desired field instead of immediately having to get a job somewhere. but im not gonna lie to you. i put out applications at olive garden and einstein’s bagels and they both rejected me. so. i was scrambling bc my student loans were due and i had zero dollars 2 my name 🧍‍️)
okay i rambled on for entirely tooooooo long. but i hope this was helpful somewhat !!! 💗💗

GEORGE BLACKLOCK (b 1952, British)
George Blacklock was born in County Durham, England and studied at Sunderland Polytechnic for one year before going on to study painting at Stourbridge College of Art in the early seventies. He graduated from his Masters at Reading University in 1976. George has exhibited extensively in Europe and North America throughout his career and has been represented by Flowers since 1996. He has received awards from the Welsh Arts Council, the Greater London Arts Association and was a prize winner at the John Moores contemporary painting competition in the nineties. George Blacklock has work in major public collections including the Arts Council of Great Britain. The British painter was also the Dean of Chelsea College of Art and Design, London 2011-2017..
"A lot of my paintings have shapes and gestures that converse, or are compromised, or can be seen to co-exist, or dominate, or retreat, or expand, or to re-iterate, in other words exist in a visual narrative. This narrative is complex both in formal terms and in its associations and metaphors. I often equate my abstract forms to the metaphysical realms of religious art. I value 'touch' as an expressive function of painting as well as a major contribution to non-linguistic, non-linear narrative."
