Exploring The AI Text-to-Speech Revolution
Tumblr media
Theodore, an introvert, worked for a company that wrote handwritten letters for lonely people. Still coping with his divorce, he installed a new AI operating system, Samantha, whose calm voice and thoughtful conversations made him feel understood. Though hesitant at first, Theodore eventually found comfort in his bond with Samantha. As they spent more time together, he even began to fall in love with her. While Samantha wasn’t real, she became Theodore’s closest confidant.
Although this story is fictional, with the way AI is advancing, our interactions with technology may become quite similar. Let’s dive into how AI text-to-speech (TTS) technology is evolving to feel more human and emotional.
What is AI Text-to-Speech?
AI Text-to-Speech is a technology that transforms written text into spoken words that sound incredibly human. By using deep learning, AI mimics human speech patterns, emotions, and accents. This tech has the potential to change how we communicate with machines, making virtual assistants feel more real.
How Does AI Text-to-Speech Work?
AI TTS learns from huge amounts of data, understanding the tone and rhythm of human voices. It then breaks text down into basic sounds and applies natural-sounding voice qualities to create a realistic narration.
Benefits of AI Text-to-Speech:
Natural Speech: AI-generated voices sound almost human, making listening more enjoyable.
Multi-language Support: AI can speak many languages, making it great for global use.
Emotional Voices: It can capture emotions like joy or empathy, making content more engaging.
Consistency: No more mispronunciations – AI TTS delivers steady, clear audio.
Educational Aid: It helps with learning new languages by offering accurate pronunciations.
Emerging Trends:
Voice Cloning: Soon, anyone can create a digital version of their own voice.
Emotional TTS: AI voices will be able to express emotions, making storytelling more dynamic.
Content Creation: AI will make it easy to generate high-quality audio for blogs, videos, and podcasts.
As AI progresses, TTS technology will continue to become more engaging and human-like, changing how we experience spoken words.

There is another kind of rage and despair you will feel when you are an artistic person studying and working in technological fields and you keep seeing your peers and people you are supposed to look up to blatantly using artists' hard work for training text-to-speech models.

My only real gripe with Dropout is their subtitling. It is horrendous, I think especially on D20. Constant mistakes and seems like every other line won't make sense if you're deaf or hard-of-hearing.
I just have auditory processing issues so most of the time I can tell that the captions are wrong, but I can't imagine how misleading the captions are to folks with less of an ability to decipher the audio.
Like I'm sorry to sound harsh but hire someone new for that department, because the quality control is abysmal.

There’s a difference between using a phone’s built in text to speech for something and using online AI voice text to speech.
One is something that has been licensed. The people who provided the voices were paid. They’ve given their ok for people to use their voice to read text.
The other is stealing people’s voices without compensation and without permission.
Please for the love of God don’t get them mixed up. Just because something uses text-to-speech doesn’t automatically make it evil and bad and on the side of AI taking jobs.

absolutely sick of hearing about AI. i know there are actual fantastic uses for tech that falls under the AI umbrella but i never even hear about it bc there's too much noise about scams, theft, bots, and the exponentially increased enshittification of formerly perfectly good products and services
