Bat-Family x Fem!OC
You trip a little because you were too busy staring at your crush
Characters: Jason Todd, Dick Grayson, Tim Drake, Damian Wayne (aged up), Barbara Gordon, Stephanie Brown, Cassandra Cain, Duke Thomas, Selina Kyle, Kate Kane, Helena Bertinelli, Jean-Paul Valley & Terrence McGinnis
Jason Todd aka. Red Hood
- You never considered yourself clumsy, not until Jason Todd entered the room. The moment your eyes lock on his, it’s like gravity shifts, pulling you toward him, and your focus narrows to the way his leather jacket hugs his broad shoulders or the smirk that tugs at the corner of his lips. He notices everything, and of course, he notices when you trip, your foot catching on seemingly nothing. His reflexes are quicker than your embarrassment, and his arm snakes around your waist before you can hit the ground. “Careful there, sweetheart,” he murmurs, his voice a mix of amusement and something softer.
- Jason’s protectiveness is as much a part of him as his defiant streak. You’ve seen it in the way he shields innocents during fights, his body a barrier against danger, and you feel it now in the way his grip lingers on your waist. There’s a flicker of concern in his blue eyes, hidden behind his teasing tone. He’s rough around the edges, sure, but his heart—scarred and bruised as it may be—beats fiercely for the people he cares about. It makes your own heart race, knowing he might feel the same for you.
- Later, when you’re alone together, he teases you relentlessly. “Couldn’t take your eyes off me, huh?” he says, leaning casually against his motorcycle. His words are laced with that trademark Jason bravado, but his gaze betrays him, searching your face for something—confirmation, maybe, that he’s not imagining the spark between you two. You blush, stumbling over a response, and he chuckles, the sound warm and genuine. It’s moments like these where you catch glimpses of the boy behind the Red Hood, the one who yearns for connection even as he tries to keep the world at arm’s length.
- When the teasing subsides, Jason’s honesty takes you by surprise. “You’re different,” he admits, his voice quieter, more vulnerable. “Not many people can look past the... damage.” He’s staring at the ground now, his usual confidence momentarily absent. You reach out, your hand brushing his, and he looks up, startled but hopeful. “I see you,” you say softly, and it’s enough to draw a rare, genuine smile from him—a smile meant only for you.
Dick Grayson aka. Nightwing
- There’s a certain grace to Dick Grayson that makes it impossible to look away. He moves through the world like it’s his stage, every step purposeful, every smile dazzling. So, when you find yourself watching him during one of your shared missions, it’s no wonder you don’t notice the uneven pavement beneath your feet. You stumble, arms flailing, but before you can fall, he’s there, his hands steadying you as if you weigh nothing. “Whoa, easy there,” he says, his tone light and teasing, but the way his hands linger on your arms tells another story.
- Dick has always been the heart of the Bat-family, his warmth a stark contrast to Gotham’s cold. You feel it now in the way he checks on you, his blue eyes scanning your face for any sign of discomfort. “You okay?” he asks, his voice softening. You nod, unable to speak under his intense gaze, and he smiles that brilliant, boyish smile that’s made countless hearts flutter. “Good,” he says, his thumb brushing briefly against your arm before he steps back, giving you space but not before stealing another glance.
- The moment doesn’t end there. Later, when the mission is done, he finds you, his usual playful demeanor tinged with something deeper. “You know,” he begins, leaning against the wall beside you, “you could’ve just asked for my attention. No need to risk bodily harm.” His words are light, but his expression is anything but, his gaze lingering on you in a way that makes your pulse quicken. He’s always been a flirt, but this feels different—more genuine, more vulnerable.
- “You have a way of distracting me, too,” he confesses after a moment, his voice dropping to a near whisper. It’s a rare moment of honesty from someone who’s so adept at hiding behind charm. “I don’t mind, though,” he adds, his smile soft, almost shy. Your breath catches, and for a moment, it feels like the world fades away, leaving only the two of you. It’s in that moment you realize that behind the acrobatics and the bravado, Dick Grayson is as captivated by you as you are by him.
Tim Drake aka. Red Robin
- Tim Drake is observant to a fault, which is probably why you don’t realize he’s already noticed your lingering stares. You’re too caught up in the way his brow furrows in concentration or the way his lips quirk up when he figures something out. So, when your foot catches on a chair leg and you stumble, you’re caught off guard—not just by the fall but by how quickly Tim reacts. He’s at your side in an instant, his hands steadying you with surprising strength. “Are you okay?” he asks, his voice tinged with genuine concern.
- Tim’s attention to detail extends to the way he cares for you. “You should be more careful,” he says, his tone gently teasing but his eyes betraying his worry. He helps you sit, insisting on checking for any sign of injury despite your protests. It’s endearing, the way he fusses over you, and you find yourself smiling despite your embarrassment. “What?” he asks, catching your expression. “Is it so strange that I care?” His words are casual, but the way he avoids your gaze suggests there’s more behind them.
- As the day goes on, Tim seems more distracted than usual, his glances toward you lingering longer than necessary. You catch him staring once or twice, his cheeks turning pink when you meet his gaze. It’s a rare vulnerability from someone so often in control, and it makes your heart ache in the best way. He doesn’t say much, but his actions speak volumes—the way he holds doors open for you, the way he offers you his jacket when the air grows chilly, the way his hand brushes yours when he thinks you’re not looking.
- Later, when the two of you are alone, he finally speaks. “I noticed you staring earlier,” he says, his voice hesitant. Your heart races as you scramble for an excuse, but he cuts you off. “It’s okay,” he says quickly, his cheeks still red. “I… I was staring, too.” His confession is quiet, almost shy, and it makes you fall for him even more. In that moment, you realize that behind Tim’s sharp mind and analytical exterior lies a heart that beats just as fast for you as yours does for him.
Damian Wayne aka. Robin
- Damian Wayne is sharp, composed, and always in control—except, apparently, when you’re around. You notice the way his eyes follow you, the way his demeanor shifts ever so slightly, though he’d never admit it. So, when you trip while staring at him, it feels like fate has played a cruel joke on you. Before you can hit the ground, his arms are around you, strong and steady. “You should watch where you’re going,” he says, his tone clipped, but the slight flush on his cheeks betrays him.
- Damian doesn’t let go immediately, his hands lingering on your arms longer than necessary. “Are you injured?” he asks, his voice softer now, almost hesitant. You shake your head, too flustered to speak, and he nods, stepping back but not before giving you one last, lingering glance. It’s rare to see him this unguarded, and it leaves you breathless. Despite his usual stoicism, there’s a tenderness in the way he checks on you, as though your well-being matters more to him than he’s willing to admit.
- As the day goes on, you notice Damian stealing glances at you, his expression unreadable but his gaze intense. He’s quieter than usual, his sharp remarks softened, his focus split between whatever task is at hand and your every movement. It’s endearing, seeing him like this, and you can’t help but smile when his composure slips just a little. “What are you smiling at?” he asks, his tone defensive, but there’s no real bite to his words. If anything, he seems flustered, his eyes darting away when you meet his gaze.
- Later, when it’s just the two of you, Damian surprises you with a rare moment of vulnerability. “You… distract me,” he admits, his voice barely above a whisper. His gaze is fixed on the ground, his usual confidence replaced with something more hesitant. “I don’t know what to do with these feelings,” he continues, his cheeks tinged with pink. Your heart aches at his honesty, and you reach out, your hand brushing his. “You don’t have to figure it out alone,” you say softly, and his eyes meet yours, filled with something raw and unspoken.
Barbara Gordon aka. Oracle / Batgirl
- Barbara Gordon is as brilliant as she is beautiful, and you’ve always admired the way she carries herself—with confidence, grace, and a touch of playfulness. It’s no wonder you’re caught staring, your thoughts too preoccupied with her to notice the uneven ground beneath your feet. You trip, a small yelp escaping your lips, and before you know it, she’s there, her hands steadying you. “Careful,” she says, her voice warm with amusement. “Wouldn’t want you getting hurt on my watch.”
- Barbara’s smile is equal parts reassuring and teasing as she helps you regain your footing. “You okay?” she asks, her green eyes scanning your face for any sign of distress. You nod, your cheeks burning, and she chuckles softly. “Good. Though, next time, maybe try staring a little less obviously?” Her words make you blush even harder, but there’s no malice in them—just that playful charm that makes her so undeniably captivating.
- The rest of the day, Barbara seems to take every opportunity to tease you, her wit as sharp as ever. “Do I have something on my face, or are you just that distracted by my brilliance?” she asks at one point, her grin widening when you stammer out a response. Despite the teasing, there’s a warmth to her actions—the way she stays close to you, the way she casually touches your arm or shoulder, the way her laughter seems a little brighter when you’re the one who caused it.
- When the teasing subsides and the two of you are alone, Barbara’s tone shifts. “You know,” she begins, her voice softer now, “I noticed you staring because I couldn’t stop staring at you.” Her confession takes you by surprise, and she laughs at your stunned expression. “What? You didn’t think I’d let you have all the fun, did you?” Her eyes meet yours, her gaze steady and filled with something deeper than humor. In that moment, you realize that beneath her sharp wit and confident demeanor, Barbara’s heart beats just as fiercely for you as yours does for her.
Stephanie Brown aka. Spoiler
- Stephanie Brown has always been a whirlwind, her energy and humor filling every room she enters. It’s impossible not to be drawn to her, and so you find yourself watching her, captivated by the way she laughs or the sparkle in her eyes when she’s teasing someone—usually Tim. You don’t even realize you’ve tripped until the ground rushes up to meet you. But before you can hit it, she’s there, quick and steady, catching you with surprising strength. “Whoa! Someone’s got it bad,” she says, grinning as she helps you back up.
- Stephanie doesn’t let you live it down, of course. “What were you thinking about? Or should I say who?” she teases, wagging her eyebrows. Her tone is playful, but there’s a softness beneath it, an unspoken warmth in the way she holds onto your arm just a little longer than necessary. Despite her jokes, you can see the flicker of concern in her eyes. “You didn’t twist anything, right? Because if you did, I’m totally making you a ‘Danger to Yourself’ badge.”
- As the day continues, Stephanie finds every opportunity to bring up your little stumble. “Careful now, wouldn’t want to lose your balance again,” she says with a grin as she hands you a cup of coffee. Yet, for all her teasing, you notice the way her gaze lingers on you when she thinks you’re not looking, her expression softening in a way that makes your heart flutter. You realize that for all her bravado, Stephanie feels just as much as she jokes.
- Later, when the teasing dies down, Stephanie’s vulnerability peeks through. “You know,” she says, leaning against the wall beside you, “I tease because… well, it’s easier than saying what I really feel.” Her voice is quieter now, almost hesitant. “But if it wasn’t obvious, I think you’re pretty amazing.” Her words catch you off guard, and for once, she seems at a loss for what to say next. You reach out, taking her hand, and her smile returns, brighter than ever but now tinged with something deeper.
Cassandra Cain aka. Orphan
- Cassandra Cain moves like a shadow—silent, deliberate, and utterly mesmerizing. You’re so captivated by her fluid grace that you don’t notice the uneven ground beneath your feet until you stumble. Before you can even process what’s happening, Cassandra is there, her hands catching you with ease. Her dark eyes meet yours, concern flickering in them as she helps you steady yourself. She doesn’t say anything—she doesn’t need to. Her presence alone is enough to make your heart race.
- Cassandra’s communication is subtle, her touches and glances saying more than words ever could. She gently pats your arm, her expression softening as she looks you over for any sign of injury. When she’s satisfied you’re unhurt, she tilts her head, her lips curving into the faintest smile. It’s her way of teasing, a silent acknowledgment of your flustered state, and it only makes you fall for her more.
- Throughout the day, Cassandra stays close, her quiet presence both comforting and electrifying. She doesn’t say much, but you can feel her eyes on you, watching, protective. When she catches you looking at her, her cheeks flush ever so slightly, and she quickly looks away. It’s a rare vulnerability from someone so composed, and it makes your chest ache in the best way.
- Later, when it’s just the two of you, Cassandra surprises you by reaching out, her fingers brushing yours. “You… you make me feel different,” she says, her voice soft and halting but full of meaning. It’s a rare moment of verbal expression from her, and it leaves you speechless. She looks down, then back at you, her gaze steady despite her nerves. “Good different,” she adds, and her shy smile is enough to make your heart soar.
Duke Thomas aka. Signal
- Duke Thomas radiates warmth and light, even in Gotham’s darkest corners. You’re so drawn to his presence—the way he smiles, the way his laugh lights up a room—that you barely notice you’ve tripped until it’s too late. Before you can hit the ground, Duke catches you, his strong arms steadying you effortlessly. “Gotcha,” he says, grinning down at you. “You okay?” His tone is teasing but kind, his concern shining through even as he chuckles.
- Duke doesn’t let the moment pass without a little good-natured ribbing. “Didn’t know I was that distracting,” he jokes, his grin widening as your cheeks flush. But there’s no malice in his words, only a playful affection that makes your heart race. He keeps a protective hand on your arm as you steady yourself, his touch warm and reassuring. “Seriously, though,” he adds, his voice softening, “are you okay?”
- As the day goes on, Duke’s teasing continues, but so does his attentiveness. He seems to find every excuse to stay close, his easy charm masking the way his gaze lingers on you when he thinks you’re not looking. You catch him once or twice, his golden-brown eyes filled with something deeper than humor, and it makes your pulse quicken. For all his jokes, there’s an honesty to Duke that’s impossible to ignore.
- When the teasing fades and the two of you find a quiet moment together, Duke surprises you with his vulnerability. “You know,” he says, his voice lower now, “I don’t usually get this nervous around people.” He laughs softly, rubbing the back of his neck. “But you… you’re different. In a good way.” His confession catches you off guard, but the sincerity in his gaze makes your heart swell. You smile, reaching out to take his hand, and his grin returns, brighter than ever.
Selina Kyle aka. Catwoman
- Selina Kyle is intoxicating—a mix of elegance, danger, and charm that makes it impossible to look away. You’re so entranced by her presence—the way she moves, the way her voice seems to purr—that you don’t notice you’ve stumbled until it’s too late. Selina catches you, her reflexes as sharp as ever, and her lips curve into a knowing smile. “Careful, darling,” she says, her tone playful but tinged with genuine concern. “Falling for me already?”
- Selina’s teasing is relentless, but it’s impossible to be mad at her when she’s so effortlessly captivating. “Really, you should watch where you’re going,” she says, her emerald eyes sparkling with mischief. “Although I can’t blame you for being a little distracted.” Her hand lingers on your arm, her touch light but deliberate, and it sends shivers down your spine. She knows exactly what she’s doing, and she’s enjoying every second of it.
- As the day goes on, Selina finds every opportunity to tease you, her wit as sharp as her claws. “You’re lucky I was here to catch you,” she says, her smile equal parts affectionate and smug. But beneath her playful exterior, there’s a warmth to her actions—the way she subtly shields you during a tense moment, the way her gaze softens when she thinks you’re not looking. It’s a side of Selina few get to see, and it makes your heart ache with longing.
- Later, when the two of you are alone, Selina drops her teasing facade for a moment of honesty. “You’re different, you know,” she says, her voice softer now, almost wistful. “Most people see the thief, the troublemaker. But you… you see me.” Her gaze meets yours, vulnerable in a way you’ve never seen before. “And maybe that scares me a little,” she admits, her lips curving into a small, bittersweet smile. You reach out, your hand brushing hers, and she lets out a soft laugh. “But I think I like it.”
Kate Kane aka. Batwoman
- Kate Kane’s presence is magnetic, her strength and poise captivating in a way that leaves you breathless. You’ve always admired her, but today, as she stands across the room in her sharp suit, confidence radiating from every inch of her, you can’t take your eyes off her. That’s precisely why you trip, your foot catching on the edge of a rug. Before you can hit the ground, she’s there, her hands steadying you with practiced ease. “Careful,” she says, her voice low and warm. “Distracted by something?”
- Kate’s smirk is sharp, but her eyes soften as she looks you over. “You’re okay,” she says more to herself than to you, her hands lingering on your arms. It’s a rare tenderness from someone so guarded, and it makes your heart race. She steps back quickly, her usual stoic demeanor returning, but there’s a flicker of something in her gaze—something unspoken. “Try to watch your step,” she adds, her tone teasing but not unkind.
- Throughout the day, Kate stays near, her sharp eyes flicking toward you more often than usual. She doesn’t say much, but her actions speak volumes—the way she silently offers you a steadying hand when you’re navigating uneven ground, the way her body angles slightly toward you as if to shield you from harm. You catch her looking at you once, her gaze lingering longer than it should, and she quickly looks away, her cheeks tinged with pink.
- Later, when the two of you are alone, Kate finally drops her walls, if only for a moment. “You make me feel… different,” she admits, her voice hesitant. She leans against a nearby wall, her arms crossed as if to protect herself from the vulnerability she’s showing. “I’m not used to this—caring about someone like this.” Her eyes meet yours, and for a moment, you see the woman beneath the armor—the one who’s just as captivated by you as you are by her.
Helena Bertinelli aka. Huntress
- Helena Bertinelli exudes a quiet intensity, her every movement calculated and deliberate. You’re so caught up in watching her—admiring the way she commands a room with nothing but her presence—that you don’t notice the uneven sidewalk beneath your feet. You stumble, but before you can fall, she’s there, her grip strong and sure. “Watch it,” she says, her voice firm but not unkind. Her dark eyes scan you quickly, making sure you’re okay before she lets go.
- Helena’s concern is understated, almost brusque, but it’s there in the way she steadies you. “You should be more careful,” she says, her tone softer now, though her expression remains serious. There’s a flicker of something in her eyes—worry, maybe?—that she quickly masks with a teasing smirk. “Distracted by something—or someone?” she asks, her voice dipping into a playful lilt that sends a shiver down your spine.
- Throughout the day, Helena keeps her distance, but you can feel her eyes on you. She’s always been protective, even if she doesn’t like to admit it, and it’s clear she’s keeping an eye on you now. When you catch her staring, she quickly looks away, her cheeks flushing ever so slightly. It’s a rare vulnerability from someone as guarded as Helena, and it only makes your feelings for her grow stronger.
- Later, when the two of you are alone, Helena surprises you by speaking first. “I don’t do this—feelings,” she says, her voice low but steady. She crosses her arms, her gaze fixed on the ground. “But you… you make it hard not to feel something.” When she finally looks up, her dark eyes are filled with something raw and unspoken. “Just don’t make me regret this,” she adds, her smirk returning, though it doesn’t quite reach her eyes. You step closer, brushing your hand against hers, and her smirk softens into a genuine smile.
Jean-Paul Valley aka. Azrael
- Jean-Paul Valley is a paradox—a man of faith and fury, strength and vulnerability. You’ve always found him fascinating, but today, as he moves with quiet purpose, his golden hair catching the light, you can’t take your eyes off him. That’s why you trip, your foot catching on a step. Before you can fall, his strong arms are around you, steadying you effortlessly. “Are you all right?” he asks, his voice deep and filled with concern.
- Jean-Paul’s worry is genuine, his hands lingering on your arms as he looks you over. “You need to be more careful,” he says, his tone a mix of chastisement and tenderness. His blue eyes meet yours, and for a moment, the world seems to stand still. “You’re not hurt, are you?” he asks, his voice softer now. You shake your head, your heart racing, and he nods, releasing you reluctantly but not before offering a reassuring smile.
- Throughout the day, Jean-Paul seems more watchful than usual, his gaze flicking toward you often. He doesn’t say much, but his presence is grounding, his protective nature shining through in the little things—the way he subtly positions himself between you and danger, the way his hand brushes yours as if to reassure himself that you’re okay. When you catch him staring, he quickly looks away, his cheeks tinged with pink, but the intensity in his eyes lingers.
- Later, when the two of you find a quiet moment, Jean-Paul speaks, his voice filled with hesitation. “I’ve always believed in a higher purpose,” he begins, his gaze fixed on the ground. “But lately, I’ve found myself questioning… everything.” He looks up at you, his blue eyes filled with vulnerability. “You make me feel things I don’t understand, but I think… I think I don’t want to let it go.” His confession is raw, unpolished, and it makes your heart ache with affection. You take his hand, offering a small smile, and he exhales, his tension easing.
Terry McGinnis aka. Batman II
- Terry McGinnis is all charm and quick wit, his confidence masking the weight of responsibility he carries as Gotham’s newest protector. You’ve always admired him, but today, as he stands in the Batcave, the glow of the monitors casting shadows across his sharp features, you can’t help but stare. That’s why you trip, your foot catching on a loose cable. Before you can hit the floor, Terry’s there, his reflexes honed by years of training. “Gotcha,” he says, grinning as he helps you up. “You okay?”
- Terry’s grin is teasing, but there’s genuine concern in his eyes as he steadies you. “You sure you’re not concussed or something?” he asks, his tone light but his hands lingering on your arms. His blue eyes flicker with something deeper—worry, maybe, or something more vulnerable. “You’ve got to watch your step,” he adds, his grin softening into a small smile. “Can’t have you getting hurt on my watch.”
- Throughout the day, Terry’s usual banter seems more pointed, his jokes tinged with affection. “You know,” he says at one point, leaning casually against the Batmobile, “if you wanted my attention, you didn’t have to trip for it.” But his eyes betray him, their warmth belying his teasing tone. When he thinks you’re not looking, you catch him staring, his expression soft and unguarded in a way that makes your heart flutter.
- Later, when the teasing subsides, Terry surprises you with his honesty. “I’m not great at this—feelings, relationships, all of it,” he admits, his voice quieter now. He rubs the back of his neck, his usual confidence giving way to something more uncertain. “But you… you make me want to try.” His blue eyes meet yours, and for a moment, the weight of his responsibilities seems to lift. “Just… don’t give up on me, okay?” he adds, his voice almost pleading. You smile, taking his hand, and he exhales, his tension easing as he smiles back.

Chapter One: Initially (Jason Todd's POV)
Terrence McGinnis. Case number two-sixty-seven. Breaking and entering, vandalism, petty theft, and armed robbery. I don't know what I expected. Maybe I thought he'd be taller. He was small, almond-eyed, rosy-cheeked. He looked painfully familiar. "Terrence—. No one calls you Terrence, huh? You gave me a look," I whispered as I reached to shake his hand.
"Terry... And I don't shake hands," Terry replied. I nodded.
"Terry, did anyone tell you who I was?" I questioned.
"You're supposed to fix me, right?" Terry asked. I raised an eyebrow.
"Depends on whether or not you think you're broken, Terry. Is that what you think of yourself?" I asked. Terry shrugged.
"Does it matter what I think? I've heard what everybody's been saying," Terry replied, "They talk about me like I can't understand what they're saying."
"I'm not here for them... I'm here for you, and I'm here to listen to you. Speaking of your wants and needs, do you want a soda or something? I missed breakfast," I replied. Terry fidgeted with a number sticker on the table, nodding. "What do you want?"
"If you press ginger ale on the Hansen's machine, you get two sodas free. Press ginger ale, and then press the pictures for whatever sodas you want," Terry explained. I grinned.
"Good looking out, Terry. What flavor do you want?" I asked as we stood up and walked toward the vending machines. I pressed the ginger ale button and got a soda for myself and one for Terry. "You've got me for two hours, so feel free to get snacks while we're here."
"Why?" Terry asked.
"Because it's four o'clock, and you're a fourteen-year-old kid. I know you've gotta want a bag of chips or popcorn or something," I replied, "And when I was in your place, the man that took me in got me something to eat. That's something that stuck with me."
"You were in my place?" Terry asked.
"I was well on my way," I replied, "I was boosting tires, B-and-E, lifting from stores and stuff... Do you want something to eat?"
He picked out a bag of chips. I let him eat while I pulled my thoughts together. "Thanks," Terry whispered. I nodded. "What'd you want to talk about?"
"When you need advice, who do you talk to?" I asked.
"Like an adult?" Terry asked.
"Or a friend," I replied, "Do you not have an adult that you feel understands you? And before you answer, that doesn't mean the adults in your life are bad. It just means that they don't relate to you."
"They don't get it. I know they're busy with the divorce and my brother and everything, but they—. You know about that stuff already," Terry mumbled.
"Yeah, but on paper, they're just facts. My job is to find out how you feel about the facts and how we can navigate your struggles together to make your life better. My job is to help you make your life better," I explained.
Terry took a sip of his soda. "Until I get out of here, right?" Terry asked.
"Nuh-uh. As long as you want me around. I'll give you my card before I leave today, and you can call me anytime you need me," I replied, "Now, let's get into what you want moving forward."
Terry liked to talk. I think that's what surprised me the most. He told me about everything he'd ever done and how he didn't know what to do once his parents finalized their divorce. And I listened. That's all he wanted. He talked so long that I almost forgot we only had two hours. Terry was an interesting kid. Insightful. By the end of the two hours, we were both hesitant to leave. I gave him my card and told him I'd be back in the weeks his parents couldn't visit.
"Jason Todd... Mr. Todd, are you gonna come back for real?" Terry asked.
"Two weeks. After your Mom and Dad visit you, I'll be there. First Sunday and last Sunday," I replied, "I promise, Terry... And call me Jason. Mr. Todd was my father."
I left our visit feeling recharged, but I didn't expect anything to come from it because kids forget so fast. So, I went home, wrote notes on everything he told me, and cross-referenced them with his case file. Terry's mother worked for AstroTech, and his father worked for Wayne-Powers. He came from an average family, but I couldn't help but feel strange about him. It felt like he didn't fit into his own puzzle. I had an appointment to meet his father in the morning but couldn't sleep.
I hadn't felt this way about a case in years. I stopped killing a while back because the criminal element in Gotham shifted. It used to be adults. It used to be simple. I stopped killing because the criminals got younger, more impressionable, and more cult-like. These kids weren't thinking for themselves. They were picking up where the criminal element of my time left off, and I had to change my angle. I couldn't go around killing children, so I tried my hand at rehabilitation. Terry was supposed to be my last case. He was my semi-retirement. The kid looked like a simple case on paper, but meeting him changed everything. Terry wasn't meant to be a criminal, and I think he knew that deep down. Still, Terry would require time, attention, and something I couldn't quite see yet. I wanted to help him, and I wanted to know him. I couldn't bear to take cases like his. The attachment was unbearable because the kid and I could do everything right, but Gotham could still swallow him up. It could still take him out because that's how the city was. Good kids and easy cases worried me because the kids with angles and sharp edges were built to make it. Gotham hated good kids. It chewed them up and spat them out with no remorse, and goddammit Terry was a good kid.
So much for semi-retirement. I put a sticky note on Terry's file for books I thought he'd like. Then I put another sticky with questions for Terry's father. I couldn't close my eyes. Every time I wanted to sleep, I thought of something else I could do. There was always something more for me to do. I think it was my way of paying penance for the sins of my youth.
Not that I regret killing the degenerates I snuffed out in my day. No. I felt guilty for the victims that I eventually forgot. Killing villains was alright, but it stopped making sense when I lost sight of the people I did it for.
My alarm went off while I was sitting at my desk, and I turned it off, made breakfast, and took it to my office. My assistant offered me a coffee, and I asked her to wait until Mr. McGinnis came. Terry's father, Warren, was a serious man. Over-stressed. He came in holding hands with a little boy I suspected was Terry's brother, Matthew. I hadn't met him before, but he looked exactly like Terry. Just younger. "Sorry, it was spring break, and there was no use in Mary and me taking the day off," Mr. McGinnis apologized. I nodded.
"It's alright, Mr. McGinnis... There's a playroom in the building if you don't mind separating for a little—."
My assistant stood up, and Mr. McGinnis nodded, allowing her to escort Matthew to the other room. "I spoke with Terry yesterday, and we had a lengthy conversation," I stated.
Mr. McGinnis looked sick to his stomach. "You can call me Warren... Um... Terry hasn't always been like—."
"Oh no, I might've misled you with my tone. Terry was great. He opened right up," I interrupted, "Personally... I think he'll be fine, but we both know he needs extra attention and support moving forward to keep him on the straight and narrow."
Warren nodded. "Has he said anything about the divorce?" Warren questioned.
Poor guy. I could tell he loved Terry to death but was missing something. He didn't understand Terry, but not for lack of trying. The man was exhausted. "He doesn't want to choose... This leaves you and Mary in a difficult situation," I replied. Warren frowned.
"We've already decided... But we weren't sure how to break it to him. We think it's best that I take him on full-time," Warren announced.
"You look worried," I noted, "This is your time to voice your concerns. If we can address them, we can help Terry."
Warren nodded before setting his glasses on my desk and hiding his face in his hands. "I'm never gonna be what he needs me to be," Warren choked on his words as he gave way to tears.
I pulled a box of tissues from my desk drawer and offered him one. "Mr.— Warren? You're trying... You raised an amazing kid—. Amazing kids... And some kids need more support than others. It doesn't make you a bad parent. You're only a bad parent if you give up on your child or demean them when they don't turn out how you imagined... You haven't done that," I reassured him.
I reached out to touch his shoulder and heard Bruce's voice in the back of my mind. You did everything you could, Jason. Then bile. I could still taste it. I shook the thought from my mind. "It's so hard... I didn't think it'd be so difficult with him," Warren cried softly.
I started to cry tears of my own. I wept for things I longed to feel again. "Warren, I'm here for your family. I'm here," I promised through my tears. I couldn't look up. I couldn't face Warren. He was everything that I wasn't. I wished I was in his place. But I guess the grass is always greener on the other side.

Interestingly as well as every universe where there is a batfam where at least one of them will continue the mantle of Batman even if all the others retire, Amanda Waller has no reason to create Project Batman Beyond. So Terry's "Father" never has his reproductive DNA changed to mimic Bruce's, and Terry and Matt as they are in Batman Beyond are never born. Instead the boys called Terrence and Matthew McGinnis are actually the biological children of The McGinnis parents. And Wayne-Powers is never a thing so Terry's father is in no danger and the Jokerz are far less of a problem with the older Batfam around to corral and control them.
Terry as he is cannot be born into a world where the Batfam exists. He can only be born, like OP said, when the world has no other chance.
But we still have dimension-hopping and the multiverse so I like to think there's a Batfam that accidentally discovers him and he gets adopted.
Anyone ever think about how Terry is essentially a failsafe.
He is the worst case scenario. He is the embodiment of the and? At the end of both happy endings and tragedies. He would not exist as Batman if not only Bruce, but the entirety of the batfamily hadn't failed. He would not exist as Batman if Bruce didn't find the last dredge of hope inside him and dragged himself out of the pit he created.
Terry isn't in most universes as Batman because most don't need him. Most have one of the bat kids step up as Batman and the head of the company. He is irrelevant in most. But in at least one, things go wrong, and begins a chain reaction that ends with Terry's father dead on the floor, and a Gotham empty of anyone to turn to, so Terry has to do it his damn self.
While I think Terry does genuinely want to be Batman, I think something else drives his stalwart position. He grew up in a Gotham without heroes, and where the main company decided to suck the city down with it. Everytime anybody ask him to give up the cowl, they are asking for a lot more then just him not wearing the suit. Who else is there? We love Barabara but there must be enough of a conception about her police force that Terry doesn't even considering going to them out of fear of corruption. Who else is there? Nobody. And I don't think he wants to risk that again.
It must be lonely, to be an entire city's last and final chance. To be the universe's attempt at damage control.

Issue #6.: Unveilment
The next morning Penny awoke to voices talking, one of them being Bailey's. She got curious so she listened closely to what they were saying. "...I realize that, okay⁉ Bruce, I understand what you're telling me, however I made a promise to her father in his dying moments, and you can bet your asses that I'm gonna do my damnedest to honor that promise. No matter what, understand?" Bailey told who Penny assumed was Bruce Wayne. "So, who did you say you got to take up your bat-persona, again? What was that kid's name... Oh, Terrence "Terry" McGinnis Wayne! So his training of becoming the new Batman is coming along well I presume?" Bailey asked him to which he replied with, "Yes, and I decided to give Terry some much needed time off."
Tumblr media
"Ah, so you could work with her highness here in delivering him to HQ dungeons, am I correct?" Bailey responded. "Oh, you know how it is with this clown turd," an adult female voice said. "And if I'm not mistaken, isn't your husband doing some unknown Atlantean political stuff, my little fishstick?" asked a voice that Penny immediately knew as the Joker's, plus she put together that the person whom he was talking to must be Mera, Queen of Atlantis.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Penny heard Bailey sigh as he continued with, "So, how's Clark holding after Lois' death?" Penny let out a mostly quiet gasp. There was a brief pause and then Bruce answered with, "He's managing, after all, fatherhood can be very difficult." "Coming from the guy who adopted little Robins to go with the rest of the Bat-Family, because I guess there can't be a Dark Knight without a Boy Wonder?" The Joker pointed out. "The rest of Lois' memorial is being dealt with, so no worries there," Bruce told Bailey after he handwaved away what the Joker said. "Sure sure, do you have the plane ready for us?" Bailey asked. Bruce must have nodded because then Bailey said, "Well alrighty then. Oh, and be sure to send Clark and Jon our support, okay?"
Penny then decided to sneak out of her bed to see the people she had grown to appreciate overnight. She had snuck her way to the top of the stairs when suddenly "I know you're there, my dear. Come down and join us, there's no need to sneak around," Bailey called up to her. Penny was shaken by that, so she pulled up the rest of her daytime clothing and went downstairs and when she turned the corner to enter her living room, there she saw Bailey with an elderly Bruce Wayne in his Batman suit without the cowl which was sitting on a table, and although Mr. Wayne was focused on her his eyes didn't show it as they were fixed fiercely on the Joker. The Joker seemed to be very interested in her for some reason in spite of being in cuffs. "Ah, if it isn't the Lucky Penny in the flesh!" The Joker said gleefully. Penny looked over to her boyfriend, "L-Lois is gone?" she asked. It couldn't be true, it just couldn't, as even though throughout all her years of loathing anyone who was associated with any of the supers, Lois Lane was the only one who me she still had respect for, and now Penny was hearing that Lois had passed away, only leaving behind a son for her husband. Bailey then handed her his phone, it had two pictures of Lois' grave that had a stature; one with her mother who had a bouquet of flowers for her now deceased daughter and the second with her boyfriend resting his hand on the statue. "We had to give her dog Scoop, over to her sister Lana," Bailey told her.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Penny couldn't get those pictures of Lois' grave out of her mind while she was on Mr. Wayne's plane, getting her prepared for her big debut as a new superhero. She then found herself being led to be ejected all the while Bailey was on the ground. She leapt.
The wind whipped at her face as Penny fell quickly to the ground. It almost felt like falling in slow motion as she concentrated on getting the Sky-Stick to her. She was then whisked upwards by her ride which dipped a little under her weight and having to catch after she just barely a hundred feet from the ground.
If she was going to be a superhero, it was going to be for both her father and Lois!
Okay, what do you got for me?" Penny wondered aloud.
"Attention, Niner-niner, reporting live here. There's an armored truck carrying Jaynium that has been hijacked by some crooks over on Main Street, a police chase is in progress," Penny heard her boyfriend say into her earpiece while playfully making radio noises.
"All right then. Let's get to work," Penny said gleefully as she zoomed off.
This was it! Her premiere as the new superhero in the world though she still needed to figure out what she was going to call herself, though that could wait for she had some crooks to stop!
She spotted the stolen truck as it sped down the road mercilessly crashing into other vehicles of which she had to quickly save the people from them.
"Thanks!" one of the people shouted to her to which she saluted back.
"Hello, pedestrians," she managed to shout over to other people watching the shitshow.
"Backscratcher! Loop-de-loop! Slalom! Slalom, baby! Sorry, fellas!" Penny shouted joyfully as she rode over to the crooks. She then somersaulted from her ride into the truck where she easily knocked out eleven of the twelve crooks in the back.
"Warning. Jaynium-238 is a radioactive material.. and is highly explosive. Warning. Violation of protocol," Penny heard the digital voice say as the twelfth crook pulled out a tube of Jaynium.
After Penny knocked the twelfth crook she put the tube of Jaynium back but failed to close the case before jumping out of the back to stop the thirteenth crook who was driving.
She summoned her Sky-Stick back to her in order to pull up alongside the driver's side. She knocked on the window as she playfully said, "Knock, knock. Mr. Criminal?" The crook rolled down the window which allowed her to piss him off by cracking jokes all the while she also tried to figure out how to stop the truck which according to her HUD the brakes were destroyed.
"Hey, my name is- WHOA!" Penny yelped as the crook managed to throw a punch at her of which she dodged of course. "You can call me Egg-Head, you can call me Amazing..." she decided to continue, "...just don't call me late for dinner. You get it?" She held out her hand expecting the crook to take it but with no luck.
"Not a shaker? Are you a hugger?"
"I am killer!" the crook shouted in anger as he pulled out a machine gun with the intention of killing her.
"Whoa, okay," Penny said all while hoping that no pedestrians were in the truck's way. Unfortunately, there was someone who wasn't paying attention, Mackenzie a.k.a. Max, Penny's school bully who was also a technician at LuthorCorp. She was currently whining as she rudely pushed her way through a crowd of people while carrying an armful of papers and the like.
"Excuse me! Coming through! There's more room on the sidewalk, folks, please! Watch it, bitch! I got very important shit here! Too much work...." She tripped and accidentally dropped all of the papers which landed onto the road. "Hey, a little help?!" she asked.
"A little help, please," she begged.
Penny heard her and quickly grabbed ahold of the driving crook's gun while saying "You having a problem with your gun? Here, let me help you out with that," Penny forced the crook to turn to where Max was trying get back all of the papers she had dropped.
"Oh shit, this is bad. I'm gonna be right back," Penny told the driving crook. She then zipped off to rescue her school rival.
"Heads up! Watch out!" Penny shouted to Max just as she saved her from being run over by the truck.
"Okay. Okay. There you go. You okay? You all right?" Penny asked Max who was in shock of almost being run over. She shook her head and looked at Penny in surprise.
"You're not Superman or Supergirl. Why is that, and who are you?" Max wondered aloud.
"Ah, costume gives it away, eh?" Penny joked before summoning all of the papers to her.
"These look pretty important, Max," Penny said as she gave the papers back to Max.
"'Max?' How do you know my name?" Max asked her to which she responded with "It's written on your badge Mackenzie. Now if you'll excuse me, I gotta go stop that truck! I'll see you out there," Penny saluted her and then zipped off towards the runaway truck.
"But I'm a nobody," Max softly said.
Penny continued to beat up the crooks, knocking them out.
"Hands up!" One of them still shouted at her, believing that he had a chance, which he didn't.
"Get her!" Another shouted desperately but it was no use. As the final crook fell over, he accidentally freed every Jaynium capsule which meant that Penny had to catch any that fall out and return them to their case. A single pothole suddenly sets that into motion as she struggled to get each one as they fell out.
"Gotcha. Gotcha. Nope. Got you too!" she whimpered slightly while desperately catching the vials.
"Hey. No. You!"
"You're not going anywhere!"
"Come here. Come here!"
"Come to Mama!" Once she had every vial, she quickly put them all into a net-like bag, before going back over to the driver's seat to handle the crook there who was screaming "Get the hell out of the way!"
"Okay. Stop it! Stop it, asshole!" Penny told the driving crook. She also saw that the only vial to not escape, now escaped, prompting her to chase after it.
"Oh, come on!" Penny groaned in frustration.
She then said a miriad of things while desperately trying to get the vial, "Hey, wait! Come back here!"
"Heel!"
"I got you. Nope don't gotcha! Fuck!" this continued until she finally caught it successfully and put it carefully with the others, then she zipped back over to the stolen truck. Suddenly she remembered that it was graduation day. Which meant college! So she redoubled her efforts to stop the vehicle and even tried to reason with the final crook who was driving. "Hey, I'm sorry about all of this, however l'm running a bit late!"
She then got a call from her mother, "Yes yes, I know! I got stuck in some horrible traffic!" Penny glared at the driving crook.
"Your timing is terrible, Penny! It started already!" Penny's face blushed from embarrassment. "l know, l'm sorry!"
"Where are you?" her mother asked worriedly. And since Penny could hear "Pomp and Circumstance playing in the background, then that meant that she had very little time on her hands so she responded with, "Uhm... Look, I'll be there in say like five minutes. Ten tops!" But then,
youtube
"Are those sirens?" Because of course she'd notice that.
Penny at first attempted to lie, "No."
But since this was her own mother that she was speaking to, "Penny?!"
Penny though, decided to try again, "Nope."
Her mother growled, pbviously sounding increasingly agitated, "Penny?!"
Penny tried one more time, "Uhm, nope, no sirens. No--" she gets cut off by her mother.
"Penny! What's happening?!" Penny then decided not to answer so that she can finish stopping this idiot crook. Though she can still hear her "Hello? Penny? Pe--" This time Penny finally gets her to shut up by telling her "Stop already! Fuck! l'll be right there! Promise!" Penny then hung up on her own mother to get back to work, by trying stop the 13th crook.
"Hello!" Penny greeted him jokingly.
"Hey! Get off!" he shouted angrily since she's intentionally blocking his view.
"Asshole, I told you, that I'm running a bit late!" Thanks to her blocking his view, she had him crash the truck into a steady brick wall, narrowly avoiding a huge bus. The remaining crook quickly tried escaping and tried taking the bag full of jaynium with him, shouting proudly, "It's over, bitch!
But luckily she stops him, accidentitally dropping one of the vials in the process. "Really?!" And in spite of the thug grabbing it first, she quickly snatches it back, telling him "I'll take that. That's not yours." She carefully puts the vial back with the others before hopping back onto her Sky-Stick and zooming off to the graduation ceremony while the cops arrest the 13 crooks, the last of which not only had his pants and undies fall down, embarissing him but he also screams after her in pure vivid fury "This isn't the end!" Well, for her it was.
So, after meeting up with her mother in less than the five minutes she'd promised earlier, she graduated and then afterwards, went to go get wrecked with her friends and boyfriend.
Penny then walks over to the superhero lair with her mother, Bailey, Bolt, Mittens, and Rhino by her side. She had chosen to go visit them, willingly. The doors open and she hesitantly steps inside where she's politely greeted by Bolt's own mother, Krypta.
Author's note: Krypta was created by Brainyxbat, therefore I don't own her.

(thanks for the excuse to talk this been cooking in my brain.)
Barbara Gordon, as the commissioners daughter, was not unexpected in the police station. It helped to keep tabs on her other hobby.
Her dad wanted her there, actually. Teens make other teens talk, or so it goes. According to the metro pass in his torn up jacket, the teenager behind bars wasn't even born. Heck, his mother was probably in kindergarten.
Terrence McGinnis was found with blood on his knuckles and an eye that is slowly turning purple. Onlookers said he was walking his dog. And insulting the Joker and Batman in the same sentence. The dog was gone, but he remained, bound up in a batarang and thrown to the police.
Terry is pleased that the Gotham PD office has the same dingy look as he remembers. He doesn't know if he could handle things being new. Newer than the future. He doesn't talk much to the officers - one wrong sentence and they might dismiss him as crazy. He just fought off the Joker. He's got a right to act crazy, but he doesn't.
He knows he can't change his future. But he can at least give some kind of warning before their future turns into slag like his.
Which, as predicted, is why they brought out Barbara Gordon.
"Hey Commish." He can see Commissioner Gordon's face in a moment. It's unreal, like VR, or those old photographs of Bruce and his parents. But breathing. "You look young." he starts, all casual.
"You know me?"
"Yeah. You're Commissioner Gordon in the future. Taking after your old man." Terry hums.
"You don't say. Why are you here?"
He shrugs. "Went to a science demo with the boss. Time was messed with. Trying to get back."
"Science demo? Time travel? You expect me to believe that?"
He leans back against the stone wall. "It's Gotham."
"your boss?"
"70-80 ish Bruce Wayne." Terry sighed. "Reading tabloids isn't like seeing him all 'Brucie' live." He shudders.
What made him get caught was Batman. Him being looming, tall. Shook him off his rhythm and left him open for a bola-rang. Terry was worried if anyone else he knew would be as unsettling. He was wrong.
Batgirl was so. Normal. He could see her in a calculus class chatting with Max. A twisting, slimy thing started to move in his gut. "So. Not. Rip." It was one thing as a one off, a far off historical reference, a footnote in "why Babs never came back" but this was twisted. he doesn't think he could say it. But he could steer her away.
Barbara thinks he's really selling the whole "time-traveler" thing. "Really. Future slang?"
"This is not schway. Babs. You need to actually hang around some teenagers. Get some perspective on life."
Barbara crosses her arms. "What kind of teenager heckles the Joker and breaks three of his ribs? Is that normal where you're from?"
"Normal is relative. Listen." Terry stands up, clutching the bars, "You can do better."
"what?"
"You heard me. You aren't doing yourself favors by following their shadows. Do things for you."
"um." Barbara was not expecting life advice from a dirt bag. "Whose shadows?"
"Your dad's. And the bat one."
"who did you work for?" Barbara tries to stay, but the police come in. But it's not them. She doesn't recognize them.
"hey you found my dog yet? He's a working stiff. Does a better job than you."
"joker wasn't kidding about you being a comedian. Take em."
They were criminals hired to take Terry to the Joker so they could have words.
But then Jason and Ace show up. "Heard you need protection."
Terry's eyes go wide. "Guess if the police ain't safe. Babs?" He salutes her.
"You can't just go!"
Red Hood goes, "oh yes we can!" And they flee.
Terry McGinnis gets yeeted to the past and becomes besties with Jason
he also has Ace and the shelter doesn't allow "scary dogs" inside.
So. He's a homeless teenager and his big dog. Who both have Batman level training. Possibly his suit, but it's funnier if he doesn't.
because I've seen Damien VS Terry a few times but I haven't seen our juvie children Jason and Terry interact much in fandom.
Mostly follows the DCAU timeline but you know. General fluid canon playground bashing action figures together because I love Terry and by dint of him being in the future he's a little estranged from the Bat Fam and that makes me sad.
first thing: Terry knows he can't wipe himself out of existence because of the way he traveled. His future is fine, he just has to repair his time machine.
But you know. Homeless, no resources. Bruce taught him to be suspicious of the government, and this is before the League, so. Not many people he can turn to.
It was almost an accident, but he was walking Ace and caught the Joker mid-rant against Batman and Robin. Terry heckles them as a distraction. He insults the Clown good. He even throws in a barb against Batman just to be funny.
Tim tries to guide him away, but the Big Brother instinct kicks in and he ends up fighting the Joker anyway.
When Batman tried to catch up to him, Terry flinched and ran. Sure, Bruce would help, but he wanted to do this by himself.
Red Hood hears about this and decides to investigate. "Hey, buddy. word is you ain't scared of clowns. I hear you could use some protection."
Terry weighs his options. He's read about Jason Todd. Red Hood. The whole mess. "It's not like I'm not scared, it's just - that Robin kid. I had a little brother his size and I'd be pissed if a low rate clown ever hurt him." And "you know death doesn't stop some people. Why don't we mock him? Make sure no one takes him seriously ever again?"
"I'm listening."
Terry becomes an Enforcer in Crime Alley. He gets close to Jason, mostly because of shared backgrounds and complaining about "their old bosses", not that Jason knows he's also talking about Bruce.
Terry had a big yelling match with his father Warren the last time he saw him before he died. He starts to soften Jason up to the idea of talking with his father since they both have dangerous night jobs.
There are raids for getting Terry's time machine up and running again. There are also surgical attacks on the Joker's usual haunts and goons. Terry and Ace get caught and taken back to Wayne Manor.
Terry specifically asks to watch how Alfred makes his cookies and food. Bruce thinks he's being paranoid but he just wants to know how to make food the way Older Bruce likes it.
Bruce thinks he's Jason and does a DNA test. It shows that he's not Jason, but he is Bruce Wayne's son. Terry didn't know this, and while he was keeping it together so far, he freaks out.
Ace was trained as a medical dog and can tell when someone has heart problems. He makes Terry lay on the floor. "Yeah this is your heart problem, here's a sneak peek of your future."
Idk how to end this but it's like, Jason comes in the front wanting to see his friend. And also talk with Bruce.

Two passions of mine are lists and family trees/next generations. One of my bigger gripes with the Fandom Wiki is that they will put absolutely everything to be a character category... aside from “next generation”...
So, I’m making my own list of next generation characters from all over the multiverse. Which is ungrateful, to be quite frank, due to how hard they are to find if you haven’t met them personally in a comic yet.
Which brings us to this post. Consider it a WIP as well as an ask for help. If you are as interested in next gen characters as I am, look at the shiny list! If you have read comics including next gen characters not listed here, please tell me the source and name so I can add them!
(Listed in braces behind are home Earth and continuity; if nothing is listed, it’s a child from the main continuity. Also, the list is in alphabetical order by hero alias, so if you want to just check a particular hero, that’s where you’ll find them.)

With Mera:
Arthur Curry Jr. (New Earth main continuity; dead and also erased)
Arthur Joseph ‘AJ’ Curry (New Earth main continuity; erased)

Children of Aqualad / Garth
