wtf I love Tenma now? He started out as a complete ass, but these last couple of chapters have really made him a lot cooler. Even though Ogami was trying to get him out of there safely, I love that he's willing to put it all on the line despite not understanding exactly what's going on.

Kill Blue Chapter 18
I've avoided talking about this series since April, but it's managed to make the cover of this week's magazine, so here we are. For some reason (coughcough Tadatoshi Fujimaki is Sakamoto-pilled) Juzo has started switching between his adult and child forms.
Tumblr media
This series wishes it had the jarring commodification of the Underworld that Mission: Yozakura Family has. It does, however, have the concerning use of child soldiers that The Elusive Samurai has...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Every week I ask myself why I read this series...
Tumblr media
Anyways, these assassin kids are a hypnotist and a constructed person, and it looks like we're getting a 2v2 match against Ogami and Tenma.
Tumblr media
HOLY SHIT THAT'S A GOOD 2-PAGE SPREAD
Tumblr media
Shoutout to the guy in the chair, providing tactical support with the rest of the cast being none the wiser.
Tumblr media
And there we go, looks like the format will be 2 duels, now that Ogami has got a gun.
I'm still really iffy on how Noren is treated as a character, especially in contextualizing Ogami's relationship with her as a paternal one in order to avoid romantic implications, it's super objectifying.
But whatever, it's in Jump, so I'm covering it.

Naoki Urasawa's manga "Monster" Interview;
Tumblr media
Naoki Urasawa is one of the most successful manga artists in Japan, having not only been awarded the most important prizes in Japan, but also in Germany. He celebrated his international breakthrough with the thriller series "Monster", which he drew in the 90s. It's about a Japanese neurosurgeon in Düsseldorf who saves the life of a boy and gives up his career to do it - actually he should have operated on the mayor instead of the boy - and then gets into real trouble because he is involved in a series of serial murders and a conspiracy device. Andrea Heinze : How did you come up with the idea for the series? Naoki Urasawa: The drama “Monster” was created because I really liked the novel “Frankenstein”. That really interested me and I thought about whether I could bring the story into today. The second aspect was that at that time in the USA there was this film with Harrison Ford, “The Fugitive”. It was about a doctor whose wife was killed and I really liked it. And then I thought, I have to do something that involves a doctor who is being chased and has to solve a mystery. And then I was interested in “Frankenstein,” this old Gothic landscape, and I wanted to bring the two together somehow. And then we somehow came across Germany. Blonde boy as a contrast to evil Germany
I heard that people saying Johan was inspired by Hannibal and other psychopathic characters etc but it never make sense to me. (Maybe some characteristic sides makes sense but generally no, he is different). It makes sense that Monster is inspired by Frankenstein story because Johan is portrayed as more like someone who became the way he is because of his past. He is the monster created by the real monster. (Mostly its Franz Bonaparta who stole his and many others name, biggest sin a person can do). Its really combined between two stories because Tenma wasnt/isnt wrong to save Johan.
Heinze: And what does Germany have to do with it? Urasawa: I wanted to do something dark. And I don't want to say that Germany is the root of all evil. But if you look at the Second World War - and this is present in Japan, also because Japan was an ally of Germany at the time - there were a lot of dark stories in Germany and also in Japan. A lot has been clarified. But some things don't. I also came up with this beautiful, blonde, blue-eyed boy as a character. I think that's a good contrast to contrast with this dark, bad thing. And the more you delve into history, the more clear it becomes that the roots of the conflicts lie in the Second World War. If you add all of that up, the manga could only take place in Germany.
I am glad that real life stories was brought up but its really sad that this actually happenned somewhere.
Heinze: How did you research the story for “Monster”? Urasawa : I watched a lot of documentaries. In the 1990s there were also reports of neo-Nazi attacks on houses where Turks lived. I've seen things like that and they've also found their way into my story. I made up the rest. For example, the boy, Johann. He is raised in a children's home where many human experiments take place. And shortly before I finished my work "Monster," there was a documentary on Japanese television about the end of the Nazi era, and it also reported on a camp in which blonde, blue-eyed young people were herded together and essentially had to undergo elite training . And this boy who was depicted there was also called Johannes. I was then asked if I had known all of this before - but that wasn't true, it was all in my imagination. A person becomes a monster
This is insane....chills. Its so ironic that a lot of people remember Johan's character as some evil psychopath but not only he isnt written that way in story but also, his origin is literally coming from actual victim, a child. Intentional or unconciously or maybe coincidence but still, wow.
Heinze: How is it that Prague also became the setting for the story? Urasawa: Because everything that was east of Germany, all the Eastern European countries, was not even known in Japan in the 1990s. It's completely different today, but back then people hardly knew everything that lay east of Germany. While on the other hand, Germany and everything further west was already developed for tourism. And Eastern Europe had never been featured in the manga until then. It also fascinated and really attracted me as an illustrator. If you go to Germany or France, it is much brighter in the evenings. But if you go further east, in my case it was Prague, it was much darker on the streets in the evenings in the mid-90s. And I wanted to explore this darkness, this night, for myself.
No wonder story feels so real, with both its characters and places.
Heinze: What does the manga “Monster” have to do with Mary Shelly’s novel “Frankenstein”? Urasawa : Frankenstein is about a scientist who created a monster, and it's also about human responsibility. There are certainly things that humans are allowed to do and that they perhaps shouldn't be able to do. These thoughts can certainly be taken further, and that's what I did in the "Monster" series. It's about the Japanese doctor who saved a boy, and later the boy becomes a monster, a murderer. And then the doctor asks himself whether he is not responsible for the fact that this boy has become a murderer. This is a different conflict than in "Frankenstein", but the question of responsibility for one's own actions is also an issue in "Monster". Dostoyevsky novel using the means of manga
Though, story is inspired by Frankeinstein, Tenma is clearly right to save kid's life. He isnt the 'evil' doctor who is responsible for the monster. He is the real doctor who saves this boy from destruction at the end.
Heinze : For me, this doctor is an ideal example of the good in people. He even saves this boy against the wishes of the clinic management, who would much rather use their best surgeon to operate on the mayor. Urasawa: Every good person has places somewhere in their hearts that are perhaps not so good, and it was the same with Doctor Hämmer - in the hospital there were also some disagreements with the management, where he also thought: "Preferably I would like it if everyone were dead." And later Johann also tells him: "I have fulfilled what you wished for." Then the idea came to him that he had also caused all of this and was to blame for it. And I wanted to show in my work that there is something good and something bad in every person, and that is just human nature. Also, what I didn't mention: There is the classic manga "Astroboy" by Osamu Tezuka in Japan. There is a scientist whose son died and he then creates a robot that looks like his son and that also has feelings. But somehow he says: "You are not my son." At some point he neglects this robot. This scientist is basically Doctor Tenma. So “Frankenstein” and “Astro Boy” are the two sides that belong closely together. I especially consider the artist Tezuka with his classic “Astro Boy” to be my roots.
Here's the real message of Monster, that noone is just a monster and every person has monster in them and that story, Tenma is being parallels with father who neglects his son...I wonder is it him realizing that he was never supposed to kill Johan (the son), he was right to save him, trying to kill him is the neglect/him failing to understand him and end up saving him. Maybe i am reaching but its makes more sense that way. Btw i love how Tenma visits Johan even at the end. Despite everything, they really give that father-son energy.
Heinze: Osamu Tezuka is considered the founder of modern manga, what do you like about him? Urasawa: It's hard to say in one word. Maybe you can describe it like this: The manga were initially comics for children. But Tezuka did it differently, he practically wrote something like a Dostoyevsky novel, but using the means of manga. Something much deeper, and ultimately it's not about justice winning, but it goes even deeper, practically conveying the feeling that even winning can bring with it something sad and empty. This is something deeper. And he was able to convey that in the beginning of the manga. Statements made by our conversation partners reflect their own views. Deutschlandfunk does not adopt statements made by its interlocutors in interviews and discussions.
Its really deep story.
This is the source of this interview, i really wanted to make comment/analyze about it.

astroboy 2003 the ramblings
So i convinced two of my friends to watch astroboy 2003 with me and here are some of my highlights and ramblings.
we saw the dub version of our country (brasil) which unfortunately lacks a lot of original context and scenes from the original anime, with that said we still had a lot of fun despite the lack of content in some places, mostly thanks to the voice acting and the adaptation done with the material that the voice actors had.
Note : currently I'm still watching the subtitled version and the extra materials so I can catch most of the content that I might be missing.
The voice acting is quite aggressive and ironic at some moments and we love every second of it.
We are all pinning for tenma. (Ochanomizu too)
We want to give Atom some clothes because he looks adorable with them.
My friend gave Uran a gun.
Tumblr media
We actually really liked some of the secondary or episode only characters and some of my friend's complaints were about wanting to see more from them, especially Atom's friends which i agree and i did want to see more from tamao and Shibugaki individually in a similar way to what we got from the microbear episode.
we didn´t saw the denko episode thanks to it not being avaliable in the dub version, i have no idea why is that and this also created a problem while viewing the intro & backstory for atlas/daishi, the translation changed too much of the dialogue and this combined with the editing mad everything really unclear for us.
Pluto's arc probably has the same problem.
“He has a pimp's car.” - me seeing tenma's car
“Tenma is kind of a chad.” My friend.
We stan tawashi.
i have a unreasonoble love for tamao and i want the best for the lil guy.
“Please don't kill off atlas again.” my friend seeing Atlas about to be kill for the 3° time.
“2000s anime girl.” Friend about Epsilon.
"i don't blame the blue knight." friend about blue knight.
At some point the dubious website we are using was out of air so we watched the 2009 movie with an audio modifier.
For context this movie is still remember was some random pirate DVD movie most of us 2000 kids saw that for some reason has a tv host providing the voice for atom, is really bizarre but at least is very hilarious thanks to the memes we count use during our watch which included bass boosting the audio when tobio dies.
"noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo" friends seeing the robot on the volcano flashback.
we finish our watch with a made up amv because one of us was playing linkin park on twitter and he decided to play it over the opening of the show, it sycronizes for whatever reason and is funny af because the op is too happy.
end of ramble

Hey! Question about Johan. This might seem like a strange or dumb question but it seems unusual that Johan divulges his plans or thoughts to random strangers ( like Blue Sophie or the smiling hit man that offered Johan tea) why would Johan feel the need to do this? Is it a way to connect to others, or something else? It almost reminds me of villains narrating their entire plan to the hero’s but Johan does it to almost anyone ( even Shuvwald). Johan also tells Karl that he got a letter from the Red Hindenburg or Blue Sophie, so does Johan just not care who he talks to about his plans? Answer anytime ( :
@andrewsbismarck32: What do you think would be the personality or views of Johan after he is saved by Tenma the second time? Like speculate.
Hi!
To the first ask, I should reread the parts you are mentioning because I can't remember the ins and outs of Johan's plans tbh. In any case, my interpretation is that Johan doesn't really care about his plans that much. Sure, he does pursue them, but he is not hellbent on realizing them and he has actually given up on them multiple times.
For example, finding the picture book was enough for him to give up on the whole overcomplicated plan he had come up with. I will also add that many times, after he shares his plans he kills the person anyway. Finally, even if he shares parts of his plans, most people are just not interested in discovering more and tend to keep trusting Johan (like Karl).
In short, Johan is the Devil, so he is a nichilist and a master of lies.
As a nichilist, he isn't enamored with his own plans. One fails, he comes up with another. He has an idea he finds interesting, but then he gives it up because he loses interest.
As a mater of lies, he hides truth in lies and lies in truth. He tells people the truth to make them so desperate they are gonna kill themselves (Richard or the kids, for example). He shares parts of the truth with others, knowing they are not going to pursue more. Johan after all is dangerous not just by himself, but because the people around him feed their own ignorance and darkness. In this way, they become easy targets for Johan.
I also like your interpretation it is Johan's attempt to connect with others. I think it fits his character.
To the second ask, I am not one who likes speculating much, alas. I think who Johan will become as a person is willingly left unexplored because Monster is really the story of, well, a monster. It explores who Johan is and why he turned out like this. Who Johan is as a person and who he is gonna become is another story altogether.
In any case, I don't think he is gonna be much different from the mask he wore with Karl or his other university's "friends". After all, Johan is charming, intelligent, intellectual and polite. I think he will keep being that way, but maybe won't feel the need to like... kill the people around him for no reason. The problem of Johan isn't his personality, exactly. Rather it is his inability to find any meaning in life.
Thank you for the asks! And happy holidays!

Hello!! Can you do a Johan Liebert x Light Yagami Fem!reader. A reader who's just like Light Yagami, has the ame mindset and personality. You can also add the death note, make the reader have the death note if you want.
Thank you for the interesting request!!
I made this into headcanons if that’s okay!!!
Hope you like it!!
Tumblr media
Like Light, you come across to many as average yet quite charming
This has helped you mingle your way into meeting different kinds of walks of life
Everyone glances over this of course
Everyone but Johan ofc 🙄
His tactics of manipulation are quite obvious to you and yet he is still intimidating since he uses his in the most subtlest of ways as possible
If you happen to have the death note and Johan discovered it- he will not hesitate to confiscate it
You’re determined not to hand the valuable notebook over but trust when Johan will have you shakingly hand it over to him
Something along the lines of “You have such an honour and yet you waste it on your own benefit killing petty criminals. Why not use it on those truly deserving of it ?” If not confiscated there’s a possibility the name tenma would’ve been written in it eventually
You literally think you’re god but you’re falling for the devil ?
And God doesn’t even exist (Johan’s words btw)
Despite becoming paranoid that he’ll take advantage- Johan doesn’t use it?? He just locks it away or sum. But he now has that over you!! So you’re now constantly at a disadvantage
You’re sure of your own goals yet overtime you find yourself giving in, slipping your plans to Johan ?? All the while he sits back contently staring you down with those piercing yet soft and mysterious blue eyes-(I’m getting carried away omg)
On the other hand you are quick to call Johan out on his bs (in private) The way he plays friends with Karl is almost amusing
Like you just wanna get rid of everyone in your way but if Johan had his way it would just be you two left in the world so you can suffer- suffer together aw
Overtime you find yourself wanting to learn more about him. You want to understand how he became the man that he is
Soon the wants turns into needs ❤️‍🔥
Coincidentally this is when Johan appears more frequently and at the least suspected of times
But Johan is very hard to crack which very quickly irritates you. You cannot fully understand him or his doings. He’s completely different from the imbeciles you typically associate yourself with
He can undress your mind so quickly- along with your clothes
Overtime the way he speaks, eyes adoring you, adjusting his blazer at times and abandoning his drink every time you speak makes you -oh wait he’s made you forget about the notebook and your goals whether you like it or not
Sooner or later you’ll be completely submitted to him and him only
Just the way he likes it <3

Johan views Tenma like a father. Can you please write how Johan would react to Tenma’s death many years from now? (I also kinda want to see older Johan).
The October air seemed colder than usual on this day. The brisk winds pushed aside the colorful leaves at his feet and instinctively, he placed his icy digits in his coat pockets as a puff of warm air escaped rose colored lips. He prompted his head and turned his attention to the ashen skies; witnessing how the sun's light couldn't pierce through the darkest grays above.
How it's pale light offered him nothing of warmth and comfort.
A display of irony in how the world seemed to paint the feelings lingering along his heart when he was unable. A warm smile etched across his visage, pale sapphire blues eased upon the carved letters in front of him with a twist of displeasure pooling in his eyes.
"We meet again, Dr. Tenma." The words spilled from his lips in a silken tone. As if the man would rise and respond - to condemn him and save him again.
He had watched from afar the day the mourned Japanese man had been buried.
Witnessed how his sister broke down as they lowered his coffin deep into the ground. But there were many sadden smiles too. He could identify these emotions but he found it hard to replicate the act of such. Something flickered and weighed deep inside of him - but none of those emotions could be translated with any sense of conveyance.
What whirled inside of him was nothing like regret or despair. Tenma lived a life full of adoration and irrefutable accomplishments. The old man he viewed as his father died without contrition - as he had already laid to rest his past grievances and performed the impossible when he killed the Nameless and created something not as disfigured as the monster which once was - but a human being worthy of forgiveness and love.
If there were no feelings of lamentations, why did it sting as his fingers dug along the trimmings of his name? The cold air cut into his bare digits - but that wasn't what hurt in the moment he traced the T of the doctor's surname.
His lips quivered, desiring to share the words long buried within the depths of his soul and yet, incapable of even making a simple sound to break the deafening silence.
An empty smile was all that remained, steeled and unbreakable. But the weight that started pressing against his chest made it nearly hard to breathe. The blonde tried to take his attention away from what he was feeling and knelt down.
"You know...it's unforgiveable that I outlived you."
Especially when Johan resigned to dying by his hands.
This day was never supposed to come.
Johan shouldn't be standing in front of Tenma's grave.
A deep breath was gingerly inhaled as the brisk wind brushed along his face.
Softly, he closed his eyes, pretending that even a single tear drop could fall for a man so gracious .
But he could only imagine it.
Wish that the hauntings of his heart could leave him.
Tumblr media
"I guess, this is farewell - dear Dr Doctor Tenma."

Q&A: Naoki Urasawa’s Pluto
Ask on the subject of Brau-1589’s knowledge, and Europol’s actions:
Regarding Brau1589, how did they know so much if they had no contact with the outside world? Is it because they're so advanced that they're able to garner signals from the other robots? Also, is it implied that when they removed the spear to kill Teddy, does that mean they die as well? Also on the subiect of Gesicht's child, Robita, what happened to them when Gesicht and Helena's memories were wiped? Were they dealt with by Europol? Is it something related to Adolf's brother's crime, on killing the robot children? Sorry for such a long ask, but I'm really glad to see another Pluto fan! I am overall really happy with the anime adaptation!
Don’t be sorry! I freaking love long asks! Here’s a long reply:
In volume 2 of the manga Brau-1589 learned about the outside world because Gesicht exchanged memory chips with him. Brau-1589 then knew everything Gesicht knew and even found the memories Gesicht couldn’t remember. Gesicht exchanged chips because he wanted Brau-1589 to tell him if his memory had been modified since Dr. Hoffman didn’t have an answer for him; Brau-1589 wouldn’t give Gesicht an answer but did freak him out by saying “500 Zeus a body” and then just started laughing at Gesicht. Gesicht was so overwhelmed by Brau-1589’s memory chip that he screamed in horror and quickly ejected the chip; his reaction afterwards was similar to someone getting sick and about to throw up. He tells Brau-1589 that he couldn’t read the data on the memory chip. In the conversation that’s also where Gesicht learns about Dr. Roosevelt. In the anime, Brau-1589 says that he knew Atom was awake, which Tenma finds impressive, but in volume 8 of the manga, Brau-1589 learns Atom is awake only after Tenma tells him.
Yes, it’s implied that Brau-1589 would die if the lance was removed, but Tenma could’ve fixed him up slightly, maybe? And we have Atom promising that they’ll see each other again, so I dunno... maybe he survived. I like the idea that he survived, but I also think it’s interesting that Brau-1589 would sacrifice himself to save humans by killing Teddy when, because he is/was the Blue Knight, he absolutely hates humans.
I think Europol would just send Robita to a scrap heap after they wiped his parent’s memory. Robita was tortured, molested (so others have told me, I don’t quite remember which volume or if that is actually implied), mutilated (while still alive), then killed by Haas. When Gesicht found Haas, there was the bag with the remains of Tobita’s body inside. Europol would need to do something which would leave no trace for Gesicht to find after his memory was wiped. It’s interesting to think what Gesicht did after he killed Haas. Gesicht might’ve taken Tobita’s body to Europol… or might’ve just been paralyzed in that alley, not knowing what to do, but just waiting for Europol to come find him. According to the manga, Gesicht wanted Europol to execute him after killing Haas… so I don’t know. The whole situation is depressing.
