Star Ocean: Blue Sphere Mini Guide and Tips - Final Section

Leviabor Ruins (Part 2)

Private Action - Leviabor Ruins (Floor 320 / Right Side; Before clearing Leviabor Ruins) - Rena IN - Use Rena's Rebirth to revive some guy killed by a monster. He gives you an item based on the GB model you're playing on. GB/Super Gameboy 1 has the best prize. Note: I didn't do this, because the guide I used gave me the wrong requirements and I passed it. GBA gets an Orichalcum, so it wasn't really worth it anyway.

We can now unlock all floors. Talk to the man on the right and he'll automatically unlock all the floors on both elevators. Don't forget to check both. Make sure you get the Guiding fragments before looking for the Seal.

Go to Ava City (or, if you don't wanna look around, just teleport right to the Leviabor Ruins). Some of the shops are still there, but the buildings aren't… Lord Ava is nowhere to be found (and you still can't take his treasure darn it). 3rd door from the top of Ava's palace is the way back to Leviabor. If you check the inn where you can sleep at the bed for free, you'll also see that is where Lord Ava has taken refuge.

We already have the Fire seal from early game, so that's 1 down, 9 to go…

Water Seal - Start at the 103rd Floor. Defeat the enemies in the rooms going right, right, and up. A treasure appears with a Guiding Water fragment. Return to the beginning of the 103 Floor and go to the left, upper left this time. Defeat the Froggy to get a Blue keycard, then go up. There's a treasure with the Water Seal. Go back to the upper right side and we have to fight Titan. (Huh, he didn't appear for me… maybe I fought him earlier, I can't remember…)

Wind Seal (Rena is required for this floor.) - 114th Floor. Break the box (right, right, up) on the lower right to get the Guiding Wind fragment. Hit the switch ahead. Head up to fight a Titan. Two of Rena's Ray spells took him out easily. Press on until you see a broken floor switch. Use Rena's Rebirth on it. Before hitting this switch, go up and hit the lower right breakable box and reveal another switch. Hit that. Go left and defeat the two titans to get the Wind Seal. Go back using the teleporter on the right.

Earth Seal (Rena is required for this floor if you want the full set of Jeanne armor. Since I'm using Dias/Celine/Rena, it's useless. You should have someone with Push/Pull to avoid near soft-locking.) - 30th Floor. Match up the boxes to the spaces on the floor like you've done many times by now (you can just use Push, you don't need Pull) Go left and match up some more blocks in the upper and lower screens to open a door. Go left and break open the upper left box to get the Guiding Earth fragment. Return to the elevator room and go right this time. Keep going right, use Rena's Rebirth on the center to revive the block and finish the puzzle to get some Jeanne Armor (great for characters like Chisato). Go back to the room left of the boxes and down through the door the Guiding Earth opened up. Fight the Cooper and continue down. Go right and when you get to the room with two blocks, move them off of their spots on the floor to close the previous door and open the bottom one. Get the drive from the treasure chest (you'll need a lot of these, like 5 or 10 or something, you should have 1 so this should make 2).

So I soft-locked myself because I didn't have Pull :/ I had to Teleport out to the ship and go all the way back. To get Pull on Dias or Rena, they need Perseverance at 7. Safe to say, I could get it for Rena, but it just seemed easier to backtrack.

From the room where you moved the two blocks to make 4 match on the floor (lower/center), move them all OFF of the marks so you can go left instead. Grab the treasure for the Earth Seal.

Void Seal - Go to floor 227. First defeat the Carlas and hit the switch on the right. This is timed: Go left, go down, right, and down for a fight. Get the Gold Key and the Fairy Ring. (You don't know how happy I am for a Fairy Ring for Celine; I can spam her spells way more now!) Return to where you flipped the switch and go right. If you don't have hover, you'll have to fall into the pit and go back up. If you go right, there's some useless items. Go back to the elevator area. Go down and left, defeat the Carla, and hit the hidden switch in the block. Go down, hit both switches and return to the elevator again. Go left twice. Defeat the Carlas and get another Blue Key from a ? chest, then hit the switch and go down the lower right path. Go down and in the lower left corner in the Guiding Void. Go right, save, then go down for the boss. Go down and the Void Seal is in the chest. If you come back to large, open room where you got the Guiding Void, with Room Analysis FA, you can get Bunny Shoes. Just nab Ernest and come back.

Star Seal - Go to 216th Floor. Go left, down, left, left, down (use Gold Key you should have 227 Floor). Defeat all enemies in a room to get Blue Keycards. The Guiding Star is in a chest. Return to the elevator and go right and up to get the Star Seal.

Darkness Seal - Go to 115th Floor. Go left, get the treasure, then go back and hit the switch. Go right from here and hit another switch. Go back to the far left and up for the Guided Darkness fragment. Turn off the switch near the elevator and the one to the right, then go down for the Darkness Seal. Go right for a transport down.

Light Seal - Go to the 1st Floor. Go left for one of those Drives and then go back to the elevator area and go to the upper right for the Guided Light fragment. Take the teleporter down and return to the 1st floor. Go right, down, and right to find the switch puzzle room. It's confusing to explain, so I won't list the answer here. Took me about ten minutes to figure out. Go down, right, and fight the boss. Take the Light Seal and Fairy Source and go back down with the teleporter.

We're almost done… I stopped here to use the 2k SP I amassed on Celine and finally maxed out her TECH (I didn't get Lezard Techno, though, which sucked. Too many points in the opposite branch, I think.)

Bolt Seal - B12th Floor. Go down and move the block. Go right and get a Copper Key. Go left, left, up, right and open the door with the key. Go straight up and move the block. Go down and right a let the floodgates open. Swim down and get the chest you couldn't reach before for the Guided Bolt fragment. Go left and left and the fragment will open the door on the lower left of the map. Go through. The Bolt Seal is in the chest. Go to the elevator and switch floors then return to B12. Move the block thats downward near where the Seal was, then activate the water. Go grab the drive from the seal room. Finally, go and come back again, this time just let the water go first thing so it goes to B13.

Minus Seal - B13th Floor. Put all the blocks in the spaces and grab the drive from the center and all the stones in the other chests. Go down and swim to the two blue chests, one has a Platinum Key. Go back to the top side and right, you'll see the area in the screenshot, put the drives you've collected there.

This drains the water. Use the Platinum Key on the lower left door. Go to the far right and put the green block on the green glowing space, then swim back to where we started. If you go up and all the way right, there's a blue chest with the Guiding Minus fragment. Go back to the Platinum Key door and go down until you're in a submerged room with platforms. You can swim, but it doesn't lead anywhere. You can jump, but it is a major pain in the ass. I went and nabbed Precis (switched for Rena) to use Hover to get through this section. Hover to the far left for a boss fight. He went down with 2 Thunderbolts and a Thunderstorm for me. Grab the chest for the Minus Seal. Use a bomb on the back wall and you'll need Pull to move the block (you can then grab 2 stones, nothing great so dont worry if you miss this) and then return to the boss room and go through the transport.

The Final Floor! - 320th Floor -

Put all the Seals in place and face the Chimera boss that Rival sics on you. 6 Thunderbolts took him out. When Celine gets fatigued, switch to Rena to keep Dias alive. Once Chimera is dead, this opens Grand Knott (finally). Go up to enter it, save.

We'll be getting some really good armor soon, so don't waste too many resources just yet. Heal up/restock and let's tackle the lower level of Grand Knott…

Grand Knott (lower layer) Go up and Rival says she'll be waiting on the fourth floor. (The number 4 is associated with death in Japan, so we all know what she means by that…)

Make sure you've saved/healed (Grand Knott is added to the transporter) and go face the boss, El Dorado. Just use a few Thunderbolts and keep your distance. Bless on Dias helps as well. This annoying gold BlackDragonFiendWannabe will be a common enemy soon... :(

Now, to get the treasure we need someone with Room Analysis, so we may have to lose Rena for a bit and bring Ernest. To the right is a Mithril. The left room has a whip for Ernest and I think you can get through it with his Whip ability, but I grabbed Precis to see what the item was (you need both, because you need Room Analysis for the treasure). After this go grab Celine and Rena again (you'll need either Precis or Rena for some items coming up).

Go up from the entrance past the boss room and go left, up, and right to reach a room with some treasure (very useful curatives), then go left and left again (you may have to clear a room of enemies to open a door) to get back to the central area. Go right, up, and left for more treasure (a weapon for Precis.. fun). Now go right, down, right, down, up and you'll see stairs. Go to Floor 2.

Floor 2 - Ignore the panel, go up, left a bit, and up. Grab the treasure (the Mithril Dress isn't better than anything you currently should have so you can skip this step if you want) and then go back to the panel and click it. Go straight up to the 3rd Floor.

Floor 3 - Push the brick onto the circle and the top area will open. Go up, defeat the Golds (do not let them get initiative; Celine's Magic Shot is great for this) and grab the Purple Keycard. Go back to the entrance, move the block off the circle, and go right and up (left is a dead end). On the left side of blocks, break the top right block for the treasure (weapon for Ashton). There are more El Dorados in some of the blocks, so be careful.

Spell - Rena sparked Light Cross from using Ray. :)

Go down and right and down and use Rena's Rebirth on the bridge. Put the block on the space and grab the treasure (Leon weapon) from the right room.

NOTE: There's Seraphic armor in the top hall, so be sure to explore there too. You do not want to pass on this armor. If you've played SO2, you know how powerful it is. Put the Seraphic Guard and Garb on Dias, since he's our meat-shield.

Go back to the bridge and down. It's hard to tell but there's a room with a glowing panel on the upper right. Flip the switch (change the arrow). You'll arrive on the fourth floor. Remember, this is where Rival said she's waiting for us, but we need the Prism Key from the 5th Floor…

Welcome to dungeon maze Hell. Best part is, this is gonna show up in the top half of Grand Knott, too.

Spell - During a battle, using Starlight, Celine sparked Lost Mental (Mind Absorber). Using Ray, Celine sparked Southern Cross (finally~)

I wandered around for 3 hours trying to get elevators to where I needed them. Familiarize yourself with the layout before you do anything.

Fuck this room and everything it represents. What a horrible fucking place to just punish you for learning the game. These little jerks respawn constantly.

There's a series of rooms and the elevators move between the floors. Just follow this guide: Top - A, Right/Middle - B, Right/Bottom - C, Left - D <-- these are the elevators Ride D up. Ride B down. Ride A up. Ride D down. Go right and down for a green dragon enemy. He gives 99 SP per fight and can be one shot killed by Celine's Southern Cross. Go left and take the elevator to Floor 3, then save and go up.

You're truly on the 4th Floor now. Rival lays await in the room ahead. Get the Prism Key from the left side and a Robe of Ishtar for Rena on the left (and Elven Boots too, if you want them). You shouldn't need help with these puzzles, considering they put them on the back of cereal boxes and restaurant playmats… You may even consider grinding that green dragon for SP. When ready go save before going through the door.

Rival is gonna give a whopping 600 SP, so use an Extension Card at the start of the battle! For the fight itself, remember this isn't the final battle… So, don't go ham on using your best stuff yet. Besides, two blasts from Celine's Southern Cross decimated her. I even had time to prep with Anti and Bless, because I went in expecting the worst. :p In fact, using Bless, I sparked Angel Feather!! Even better!

Nice to have some easy levels/fights after that fucking slog that was Grand Knott's lower layer… Rival shows up for real and reveals we defeated a clone. She tries to kill us, but the Edifians intefere and teleport us out.

Aqua City Revisited The Edifian leaders say Rival went to the orbital elevator, Ex Trokia. It's some form of a structure that exists on the planet underwater and can communicate with space (where Rival piloted Grand Knott). The Edifians take you there.

Heal. Restock. Grind a bit in Grand Knott if you want. Make sure you save/have some Extension Cards for the boss battles ahead (make them with Art). When you're ready take the upper left door in Aqua City (the one that previously and can be changed back to Nusa Beach, if you want)

Ex Trokia Trade Rena out for Precis. Floor 2 - You start on 2F. On the left, go left again for treasure. On the right, go right for treasure. Once done, go drop Precis for Rena (the best item was the Shield Earrings, put those on a mage if you need to take less damage) and come back, go back to the right and this time go up (you can jump the 2 gaps). You'll find a ladder to F1. Go down and right and blow up the lower right wall with a bomb. Toss the Mithril Helm on Dias and go back where you blew up the wall and head up.

Floor 1 - On the left, light up the 6 switches before the lights go out. Study duration and use Dias' Dash to get them all. On the right side press the blocks in this order or you'll get attacked: low right, upper left, upper right, lower left. In the center/up room, align the blocks in a cross/plus shape.

Floor 3 - Go up to Floor 3. Go left and flip the lever and go up and activate the console. Return to the beginning of the floor and go right and up for the stairs. If you hit the switches in the room, they open doors. The only item is a Mithril, so go up and right to the 6th Floor. Don't bother with the elevator path on the left; it's a dead end with no items.

Floor 6 - From the stairs go: up, up, up, left, save, and through the door. All the items are just common junk, so don't bother. There's a boss fight coming so heal up and launch the Linear Shuttle to the Metro.

Nu, one of Rival's flunkies, attacks. I used Angel Feather on Dias, then kept my distance as much/often as possible to give time to cast Southern Cross. His first form goes down in 4-5 casts. The second form will take double that. Your biggest issue for the second form is avoiding stamina fatigue and keeping everyone alive. Switch who you're controlling if you need to. Be patient and you'll win quickly. He gives 440 SP, so it's worth using an Extension Card (I forgot)…

Now we're in some kind of colony. They don't register to the teleporter… There's a tricky jump on the upper right. Save, then stand on the metal bar on the right and leap up. Go left, up, grab the ? treasure, and continue right and up. Go to the next shuttle and the next colony (Norn colony).

Go up and right. Defeat the dragon guys to open the doors again. Go up (right is nothing and the enemies do respawn). Go to the next shuttle / Metro colony. Go up for a place to heal for free. To the right of the beds is a wall to bomb. You get one of each Check (Stone ect) and some Talismans. Go back to the main area and go right.

There's a series of rooms here with blue crests on the floor. Kill the enemies WITHOUT destroying the boxes. When you put them over the crests the block in the center becomes a treasure (usually its the best weapon in the game outside Blue Sphere crafting or Cave of Trials, so they are well worth it!) I think if you mess up you can go back to your ship, but you can't go to the colonies, so you'd have to backtrack… Save carefully (I missed Precis' weapon) If you go up you'll find an elevator that takes you to the final city, Cosmo City, so there may be hope yet to complete the colony…

Of course, we have to go through a little road to the city. Go left to heal/save. Go up through the enemies to face a boss, Rival's other flunky, Diablo.

Use an Extension Card first thing in the fight. Use Celine's Southern Cross and Rena's Light Cross to take him out fairly quickly (he also doesn't have a second form and he isn't as aggressive as the other guy was).

Cosmo City Enter Cosmo City. There's a blue Froggy enemy, but he isn't hostile. All the little robots are talking about their Master away on a trip and are obscessed with cleaning. It's kinda sad :( Make sure you upgrade your main trios weapons (I guess the upgrades in the dungeon weren't as good? Or the same?) Anyway, they're pretty pricey. If you go to the Item Shop they have higher-grade food ingredients, so you could cook with those or use anything you have. Personally, I sold gold bars and all the Bunny statues and got just enough Fol for weapons, a Duel Helm for Dias, some accessories, and restocked my usual consumables.

Go back to the ship to heal for free and feel free to pick some herbs in Cosmo with Bowman if you want. Also, make sure to switch out Dias and talk to him for his ultimate weapon. (Private Action) Fun fact, he says he got it from Gamgee! Nice!

Speaking of… How do we get the Blue Spheres for the Ultimate Weapons?!

Item Creation - Alchemy / Blue Sphere Make sure skill is maxed Make sure you have the Lezard Flask This works for everyone except Dias, Chisato, and one other (I need to look this up again) who obtain through Psychometry and NOT Blue Sphere. Make Blue Sphere, have the ultimate weapon, and bring it to the man in Knott…

You need to make connections between the elements. Blue Sphere needs: Earth (4), Water (6), Fire (4), and Wind (4 Minimum, 6 Max). Connections are when the gems connect, like this: o-o-o = 2 connections o-o-o-o =3 connections

My wife and I tried for a long time… it's basically impossible. On the bright side, iron is cheap and using alchemy can be a great way to make money for late-game. The only other way to get Blue Spheres is to play the Connect feature, which isn't usable for English. :( My only idea is to load up my save in a GB and go grab that supposed free one, so let's try that…

Go to the door behind Rival's old base in Knott and find the tower with the breakable wall (remember, the wall is only breakable in Mobile version, which is lost media… So the GB version (Black and White) makes a hole you can pass through)

Thank. God. Using my emulator to change the settings worked (make sure it's set to Gameboy, Black and White) or the door won't appear. So, we have 1 free Blue Sphere. Let's take it to the man in Knott…

Okay, I can confirm there is none for Dias, Ashton, or Chisato, so don't bother. We may as well make Celine hers. So choose 'Rod' from the list. You'll get the Volcanic Mage Rod. Now, you may notice it's like the other ultimate weapons (which, btw, Dias, Ashton, and Chisato give through their Private Actions). All the stats are 0. That's not quite the case!

How do the Ultimate Weapons work?

Here is how they work: ATK = Stat Base + STR divided by 2, Stat Base + HIT = Dexterity divided by 4, Stat base + MAG = INT divided by 2

So, Celine's base INT right now in my file is 304, giving this weapon an +INT of 152, bringing the total MAG/INT to a powerful 456! You can see the stat change in the Status Menu.

In comparison, though, there are the Cave of Trials weapons. Celine's best CoT weapon is the Forbidden Maze (not sure of the ROM translation, this is from the guide) which only has an INT of 100… There is also that early dungeon weapon based on total playtime, but it seems a pain to calculate. If you wanna go grab that and give it a shot, go for it! (I mentioned it early on in the guide.)

Don't get confused by the 0 change to Dias' STR, his ATK power goes way up! :)

In conclusion, the Blue Sphere is worth it.

Skills - More Tips A character is maxed/can't learn anymore skills when the skill level reaches 350. You REALLY need to not level the opposite branch at all. I did this for Dias and he learned Awakening, but Celine had too many points in Battle and did not learn Lezard Techno or Lost Magic.

Item Creation - Psychometry From what I gather, if Dias learned Awakening, then he just needs Radio Waves (Sense Lv 1 Skill) and Religious Studies (Theology) (Int level 1 skill) also to unlock Psychometry.

I'm not going to touch on it too heavily, but the object of the game will let you use up the ultimate weapon to unlock the ultimate skill (SAVE before). I think if you succeed / luck you can keep the weapon AND learn the skill. Theology seems to be a late INT skill, and I haven't maxed Battle yet… I will update if I manage to train enough, as having another skill would be great, but not at the loss of the weapon…

Late-Game Levelling (before Cave of Trials) I want to make more Extend Cards and go fight those green dragons that give 99 SP each, since they would give 198 SP each fight and they go down in one hit of Celine's Thunderstorm…

Item Creation - Art (Extend Card) First, we need Extend Cards, so we need Art. Celine should have it near max. Buy Magical Canvas from Mile Ruins' Shop. Save. To get Extend Card, you need red paint in the center of the image (each different item requires different colors/placements). If you have trouble affording the Magical Canvas, sell any paintings or cards you don't want, food, or stones made with Alchemy.

If you don't get red paint, don't worry. Just stay nearest to the center as you can and you can still get an Extend Card. If you have another color but already have red in the center, you can hold the brush off of the canvas as well. My advice is to just keep all paint towards the center by lightly tapping opposite the direction the paint brush moves.

Once you have 15, go to Ex Trokia (3F) and fight the green dragon enemies. I know you can use Rena's Rebirth to revive monsters, too, but an easier way is to get to the 4F stairs and go back down to respawn the dragons in the rooms. Once you enter a room, wait a second and use Celine's Magic Shot FA for initiative. Get some distance in the fight, have Rena use the Extend Card, and then cast Southern Cross for easy one-hit wins.

Also, while leveling Dias, I learned the skill he needed for Pull, which is Mental at level 7 (it's a Battle Skill). Also, once he got the Level 4 Skill Combination the AI was doing 4 hit combos and taking down the dragons itself.

I am hoping to max Dias, but I don't wanna go forever training. I'm already at 40 hours playtime. Heal/stock/save, maybe try to make some more armor if you want, then let's go complete this game!

Grand Knott (upper layer) The transporters in the first area with the escalators all lead to the bottom. Bring a few bombs.

Go up the right escalator 4 times, then take the left path for a treasure. Keep going up from there.

There's a bomb wall on the right. I put the Mirage Robe on Celine for the extra evasion, since she's middle spot. Don't bother with the escalators for now (left ones are an enemy filled dead end, right leads up). Go left and then go through the door with the guard.

Here's the damn elevator puzzle again. Go up twice, take the elevator. Go right, down, down, left, down / out the door, down the escalator, left and through the door again. Go left and ride the elevator. Go right, down / out the door, up the escalator, and through the door. On the right there is a dead end with a weapon for Precis. From the entrance go left and up. If you want Sylvan armors (not useful for Dias/Cel/Rena), ride the elevator. Grab the treasure (be careful of the red dragon, we're back to OKO enemies boys… I just ran) and go back down the elevator. Go right, up, left, up, right, up, left. Solve the maze to get to the upper/right side, go up the stairs and get one of the God Rings for the CoT.

Go back down to the maze and solve to go up. Rival greets us and welcomes us to the Grand Knott Core.

Grand Knott (Core) Use Jump to grab the Philosopher's Stone from the chest, then teleport back to your ship real quick.

Private Action - OUT: Celine - Spaceship - Gain Field Action / FA Teleport by speaking with her outside the ship.

Prepare now. By the end of the dungeon, I did learn Psychometry (leveled Sense and Battle to full, then learned Knowledge until I got Theology!)

You'll need Teleport or Hover to get through easiest. The main enemy here is that red dragon, so it's not going to be a cakewalk… There's a little bit of dungeon to explore (best items are Wizard's Mesh on the far bottom right and the Oberon Knife (towards the top left, you'll need Teleport or Whip to reach it), but I'll provide the most direct path to Rival / Final Boss: Right, up, (Repair the bridge with Rena's FA Rebirth), up, left, up, up, up, right, right, right, across the gap with the poles (use Teleport or Ernest Whip), go all the way left, up, right, and you should see an opening going up. Save!!! The final boss is on the other side!!!

SAVE

I equipped Dias with the Tri-Emblem. Celine removed Star Necklace for a Resist Ring.

Final Boss Rival

She shifts between four forms. You must defeat a form in 30 seconds to kill it. If you only damage it and she shifts, the form fully heals.

The mecha goes down pretty quick between Dias' attacks and Celine's Southern Cross. The demon only takes three Southern Cross to kill. The wizard takes a long time casting, so using spells/attacks it should go down quickly. Make sure if you're controlling Dias to stay up on her, she likes to back up. Lenneth form is the worst one, mostly vunerable to physical attacks; if you can hit her. Use Angel Feather and any support items (Mental Pot on Celine, a Speed increase for Dias). After I did this Dias finally took her out fairly quickly. The normal form of Rival is cake and goes down super quick. You should see it briefly at the beginning of the fight and again at the end.

Rival, defeated, explains she is a human created by Edifice, a master computer from another world (Mother Brain?) It's goal is to never let humanity evolve too far and erase it every time it advances. Rival also explains that she wanted to defeat Edifice, but isn't able to, so she summoned the SO2 group to do so.

Rival gives her goodbyes and you go on to face Edifice. Don't worry about the fight; Dias took it out in like 3 hits.

Mother Brain explodes and you escape. Congrats to us all, for finally completing the main story of Blue Sphere! :)

ENDING - SPOILERS (Note: There are not multiple endings, but there is a post game.)

Liella’s 1st Live Tour Starlines Gunma Day 1

I... I can’t believe I almost passed up this concert. I really just wanted to sleep after morning classes and evening shifts all week. After all, this is a three-month tour. BUT... I realized if I did, this was a moment I would never get back...

I knew what I was watching, but it still didn’t fully hit me until Liella actually came out and started singing. I realized then that THIS MOMENT, this VERY moment was a moment I’d missed for every other Love Live group in the past. To actually see them take the stage for the first time, at their first major concert, on the first day LIVE. To think I’d get to finally see it for Liella despite being an ocean away. I sobbed through most of their first song. I actually was not prepared to be THAT emotional over it! (It was just like when I saw AZALEA, the first time I’d ever seen anyone from Aqours in person and I also totally lost it.)

And wow they sound AMAZING!! So like... with all the other Love Live groups, I think there is somewhat of a gap between the members. There are the ones who sound freaking amazing, and the ones who are not... the... best live singers? But I didn’t feel that gap with Liella. They all seem to be on around the same level to me! Wow!

I’m not sure if I have a standout favorite among the voice actresses. Perhaps Pay-chan. I mean, I did spend most of the concert staring at her hair. IT’S JUST SO SHINY AND SILKY LIKE SERIOUSLY IS IT REAL!? And WOW she KILLED IT in Nonfiction! She’s... She’s still in high school, right? To be doing this at her age and be THIS good at it!? When they were talking about Gunma she told a story about feeding animals or something and she talked about it as though it was recently even though it happened in elementary school and even the other members were like uhhhh hah ha... ha...

People were good about changing their blades to the color of whoever was center in each of the songs, but I tried to look at the crowd for when it didn’t matter to try and see who was popular. Lots of orange. Sadly I think green was a little scarce? Not much dark blue either? Maybe? Dammit it’s hard to tell the difference between Keke and Ren’s colors on stream HOW ABOUT NOT HAVING TWO DIFFERENT SHADES OF THE SAME COLOR WHEN THE GROUP IS ONLY FIVE MEMBERS--

Uughg anyway. They had costumes for START!! True Dreams, Tiny Stars, Tokonatsu Sunshine, Wish Song, Starlight Prologue, and Hajimari wa Kimi no Sora for encore (no concert t-shirts). So, they skipped over Nonfiction and performed it in the Wish Song costumes. (I guess the Nonfiction ones would have been the most expensive to make heh.) I think they may have worn the Wish Song costumes the longest? (They look like the most comfortable to perform in perhaps. And I do like those.) I was a little disappointed in the Tokonatsu Sunshine costumes though... they didn’t look anything like the anime. (No puffy ballet skirts.) Oh well. I never noticed that the Starlight Prologue capes connect together! They all have their own character’s theme color at the top and another’s at the bottom. Cool!

I’m embarassed to say they also did a LOT of songs I didn’t know. I had no idea they had so many songs that were’t in the anime or games. I stopped keeping up with CD releases ever since I stopped needing to buy them for lottery tickets and such... (Like Chisato/Sumire actually have a duet!?)

Before the encore they showed us a video going through the short history of Liella. It reminded me of that ADORABLE DINOSAUR mascot for Yuigaoka that we voted for and then... wasn’t even.... in the... anime........... Also I didn’t realize in the beginning Liyuu couldn’t be in Japan and was just participating virtually (COVID I guess). It’s crazy how it’s been literally just a year since they got started and here they are performing their first live. They really didn’t seem all that nervous either! Like seriously, they’re already pros! A few of them did look like they were going to cry from the emotion of it though. And at the end it started when Liyuu burst into tears about how grateful she was that she got to meet Keke and everyone. Same with Sayuri, who had to turn around she was crying so much about how she was inspired by Kanon. When Nagisa was speaking after them she was like “I WON’T CRY :-T” making her face all scary, but she admitted she’d been tearing up when she was just waiting in position to start their first song...

Emotions all around... AND THE CROWD! THEY EVEN DID THE THING! During Starlight Proogue they did a Liella rainbow! (Coordinated colors in different sections.) GO GUNMA!! THANK YOU!!! WOW!!! I mean, there have been less opportunities for something like this to happen with COVID but I haven’t seen a crowd manage to pull it off since Aqours 5th Live (thanks to overseas crowds starting the trend, so really thank you California). What a wonderful gift for Liella at their first concert...

They only song I wanted to hear that they didn’t perform was Dancing Heart La-Pa-Pa-Pa. I imagine they’ll be singing it tomorrow in the encore instead of Dreaming Energy. Oh well, there will be other chances as they are on tour for three whole months! I wonder which show will have more tears, this one or the last one in January?

As stated in Arisa’s entry, I’m really not a fan of the Suzune outfit style, meaning how the clothes are divided into blocks with these thin lines. And that is before we go to the fanservice territory which is unavoidable here, this outfit rather looks like it belongs to Kill la Kill. I’m not sure if that blue piece of cloth that I refuse to call a skirt does some work to make the design look more decent, or if it just highlights how her hips area is barely covered. I guess it’s a belt? The straps holding it up are at least funny in how silly and impractical they look.

Other than that there’s not a lot to talk about this design, it’s boringly monochrome but at least the colour distribution with dark and light colours is fine. The short jacket goes well enough with the top (or I guess that’s a swimsuit). That hat shouldn’t be able to stay on without some kind of hairband but this is a magical girl so I suppose it’s alright too.

Ultimately there isn’t anything I particularly like about this design and the, uh, “belt”, among with the large cut-out on the swimsuit is just stupid so when compared to other designs in the Madoka franchise this would be a 1 out of then. But I also give that to Arisa and for some reason I really hate that one while this is way more just in the Meh territory so let’s say that in comparison to her this manages to be a 2/10.

Admittling speaking, there isn’t much backstory to talk about for Chisato. Her original concept was that she was going to be a future version of a Makoto that had let a kitsune take over her body. If you really want to see the confusing jumble of ideas, they are still up from 2017. That being said, that concept was dropped in favor her of being a source of power for Makoto to travel between worlds because of a war that happened in the original timeline. That concept has also been scrapped. lol

Her current story goes something like this. Original Timeline Makoto saved the fox from a hunter’s trap and the fox made a mental note of helping Makoto in a time of need. OTL Makoto lost her best friend Haya due to an attack at her house by an unknown force. It took teenager Makoto sometime to reach to out a kami for help for a do over. However, since Chisatois just a local kami she can only take Makoto to worlds that are the most similar to the Furuzeki they know. Being a goddess that dwells in the Dreamlands, she can be in multiple places at once. As for her past, Chisato first visited the human world as a courtesan for a local lord in Furuzeki due to her beauty. It is not a time she dwells on that often because human sexual desires bore her. That being said, she was able to eventually meet the 8 Mikos of the Temple for Inari. These girls were prototypes for all future magical girls in the city. Since she was living in 1500s era Feudal Japan and a time of civil wars, the 8 miko were killed in a great fire that has caused a curse upon the city that still exists to this day. After their deaths, she went back to her own shrine in the mountains, only coming down now and again. Due to the messed up nature of the current timeline, the spirits of the 8 Miko dwell within the body of a magical girl with no powers named Jitsuko. Chisato will more than likely review them all again in the near future.

Makoto’s first appearance was sometime around 2014, when she was just considered a researcher for the Agency in that RP. Nothing super special about her outside of her flames of the dead, which still carries over to this day. At first for this blog, she was someone that was missing and one of the magical girls wanted to find her again, dearly. That concept is no longer “canon.” That being said, her backstory to the first timeline is that she was friends with a version of Haya Subusa that never became a magical girl. Simply just a human that liked the supernatural and both of them formed a club to look into it. Makoto never told Haya that she was actually a mage because it was more fun that way. That being said, Haya ended up visiting her home was killed by unknown forces. In the original timeline, she was never able to visit or live with her parents so she had spent most of her time studying her family’s necromancy abilities. Desperately, she attempted to bring Haya back to life. She ended up creating a liche that had the voice of Haya but was constantly suffering. Makoto ended up having to kill the liche before it grew out of control.

From that point onwards, Makoto desperately wanted friends but suffered heavily from the trauma of her friend’s death and the liche. So she switched her line of work from necromancy to living dolls. Both magics involve similar concepts but dolls are much easier to control than the undead. Her first doll was Aurelia, which was a Victorian era doll that turned 100 years old and thus is a youkai and not really a creation of her own. That being said, Aurelia for awhile was Makoto’s only friend. Eventually, in her 20s Makoto ended up creating the doll Willie as her first true creation with a will of its own. Though, it ended up having very baseline instincts and that was to hunt down Makoto’s foes;like oni and youkai. After the creation of Willie, Makoto ended up going up to Chisato’s shrine, where their contract was signed and she started to travel the Dreamlands to reach other versions of Furuzeki, in attempts to save Hayas. Most of the time, she ends up encountering an adult version of her friend that’s a well versed magical guardian, which fulfilled the human Haya’s wish to explore the supernatural with Makoto. The fact that this wish was granted in a different world,tends to bring out PTSD in Makoto, so she never tends to truly open herself up to these Hayas out of anxiety of loosing her again. In the current timeline, she rescued a doll by the name of Fuyu that had been a butchered attempt at creating a doll by a different mage. This doll is her most complex and Fuyu has developed a sisterly relationship with her.

Currentline Makoto: She was MIA for awhile do her grandfather being a dick mage and trying to get her body to bond with a youkai. She was rescued more or less by accident when adult Makoto and Helen defeated the Grandfather. Her powers currently involve using the blue flames to attract spirits, making her a necromancer. Though it seems that since she’s hung out with magical girls, that she may have stolen a few tricks from them as well to better round out her magic. It does not appear that she knows about creating dolls or has any connection to Chisato. She wears glasses because it makes her appear smart.

Black Market Wonderland (Chapter Two): Betting Man

Notes: I’m so thankful to all of the positive feedback the first chapter got. Everyone has been so kind. I’ve read every comment, tag, etc on here and AO3, I promise if you’ve left any feedback no matter how small I’ve read it and it’s absolutely made my day and put the biggest dumbest smile on my face. I don’t respond to everything cause there’s not enough time in the day and I’m just a disaster person when it comes to that, but I want you all to know how appreciative I am. Gilded bars surround her, cold metal chills her skin. The cage swings and shifts, suspended from the ceiling. A chain comes through the top of the cage, connected to a manacle wrapped around her throat. It has just enough slack to let her breathe, but tight enough to restrict her movement and to feel it with every panicky exhale.

Several other cages surround hers, the metals dingier than hers, various shades of tainted gold. Her stomach churns, each is filled with dead little blue bird in various states of decay. The smell of rot and death is overwhelming. Some are nothing but tiny bones with clusters of feathers, other maggots crawling through fetid flesh, and some she can almost convince herself are just sleeping.

Red velvet curtains hang behind her, a stage beneath her. Bright lights flicker on, warming her and the carcasses that surround her. The heat makes the stench worsen, bile rises in the back of her throat.

A crowd looms before the stage, figures filling the seats. Deep vacant eye sockets dripping gold ichor. She can feel their stares, eager malice filled gazes locked entirely on her, sickeningly gleeful grins stretch across their faces.

Her heart pounds and she can’t get a deep enough breath, they’re going to hurt her. She knows this deep inside, she’s prey to them, something to tear apart. Her fingernails break and bloody as she scratches at the manacle around her neck, it won’t come off. It won’t even budge. Her sight blurs, tears sting her eyes and run hot streaks down her face. She grips at the bars and screams at the audience, but nothing. Not a single sound escapes her, the rawness of her throat the only sign she yelled at all.

Something shakes, the bottom of cage shifting slightly. The slack of the chain tightens, if the bottom falls out, she’ll hang.

She grabs at the top of the bars, blood slick fingers sliding off the gold. The bottom continues to shift down, growing more and more unstable. She can’t get a grip, her hands and fingers slipping uselessly from the metal. The slack of chain lessens with each creak down, breathing becomes more and more difficult.

The crowd watches her, enraptured by her struggle, leaning forward, eagerly taking in every sign of her pain. Tears, blood, and gasping all feeding their sadistic pleasure.

It shifts down for the last time, the bottom of the cage going out from under her. She can’t even whimper or gasp as her air is cut off.

She’s hung before the crowd. It’s not fast enough to break her neck, she struggles and claws at the manacle, her lungs burn. Dots swarm before her vision, gold ichor eyes the last thing she sees before everything goes dark.

Tsuneko wakes with a start, coughing and gagging. She takes a few deep breaths, calming herself down. Nightmares aren’t a new experience for her, they’re painfully common. She sits up, the sun is starting to rise.

She’s still on the couch in Oh’s suite, a small stupid part of her was hoping it was a part of the dream too. Her hand is aching and there’s a thick warm blanket pooling around her waist. She didn’t go to sleep with this on her, it’s soft and a part of her wants to just curl back up with it. It’s hard to imagine Oh being kind enough to toss a blanket on her. She rubs the sleep from her eyes and yawns.

Something on the side table catches her eye and she’s scrambling off the couch. It’s her phone, her cute Rilakuma cookie phone case and all. There’s a little bit of a crack on the screen and the case has a small dried blood spot, but it’s still functional. It’s a little silly getting so excited over a phone, but she’ll take any little bit of happiness she can get right now. She checks the time; she’ll be early, but she can head to work. She’d take being five hours early for work over being stuck in this suite for another moment, if it came down to it.

She slips on her shoes, should she leave a note? He gave her the okay to go to work, but if he assumes she ran away, the thought makes her shudder. Tsuneko gets a sticky note out of her pocket, she always keeps them tucked away in her uniform, and jots a not about going to work. She considers signing it, but she can’t imagine too many people are leaving panda sticky notes in his suite, he should know it’s her.

The penthouse halls are vacant and she’s able to duck into the elevator with no problem. She’s able to go down without a key, but she won’t able to come back up. With any luck, she’ll never have to be here again.

She thought about using the locker room shower last night, but Kiyohito has been cooped up since the evening. Not to mention, she’s infinitely more comfortable using her own shower and products. Oh told her that she had to stay on hotel grounds, technically, the dorms are hotel property. So, she’s not disobeying. And she left a note, surely he won’t go on a killing spree because she snuggled her ferret before work.

The elevator reaches the ground floor and opens. Tsuneko all but sprints out of the hotel to her dorm, not even bothering to change out of her uniform first and taking the stairs two at a time.

There’s an immediate sense of calm as she steps into her dorm, the familiarity of it relaxing her. She rushes to Kiyohito’s cage, he’s flopping around without a care. Her hand needs doctoring, but he shouldn’t have to be stuck in his cage any longer for it. She takes him out, careful not to touch him with her injured hand. She’s not sure of the medical benefits of ferret fur in open wounds, but she’s going to venture to guess it’s not good. He excitedly bounces and jumps onto a plushy, claiming a big Pikachu as his friend of the day. She steps into her bathroom, if nothing else he’ll get some play time.

Tsuneko grimaces at her reflection, her hand may be the worst of her injuries, but her face doesn’t look great at the moment. There are bruises across her cheek and temple, where her face slammed into the ground. They’re still fresh marks, red and pink, a faint hint of purple starting to show. Her hair looks like a hurricane has made its way through it, pieces sticking out in every direction. She turns on her shower, stripping down while she waits for the water to heat up.

The steaming hot water eases her tense muscles, a deep sigh escapes her. She starts washing the dried blood off her her injured hand, careful of the tender skin. That’s fairly easy part, the instinct to use that hand to wash the rest her is hard to suppress. Right under ferret fur, she’ll write shampoo on the list of things not to get in open wounds. Her raw flesh stings, but it also smells like roses and honeysuckle now.

She finishes showering and steps out; there’s something about scrubbing off all the grime that makes everything better. Time to treat her hand, she gets her first aid kit from the medicine cabinet. She opens it and bites down on her lip.. A soft whimper escapes her as she pours disinfectant over her hand, a deep sting settling into her bones. The small pink cuts across her fingers should heal easily enough, but the deeper redder one across her palm is sure to leave a mark. She bandages it carefully and he winds up with a mummy hand; but it gets the job done.

Tsuneko goes through the rest of her routine, the normalcy is refreshing. She puts on makeup a little heavier than usual, just enough to cover the bruises. It comes at the cost of covering her freckles, but it’s a needed evil. She tosses the dirty uniform into her laundry basket then changes into some comfy clothes. There’s a clean uniform in her locker for the day, but she’ll need to do laundry tomorrow or tonight

She plugs her phone in to charge and sets an alarm for when she needs to head into work, she doesn’t want to test Oh’s threats by being late. There’s a lot to deal with and a lot to think about, she still hasn’t figured out a solid plan to get out of this. She busies herself with cleaning Kiyo’s cage and refilling his bowl. He gets a nice breakfast of scrambled eggs and steak, his favorite. It’s more than usual, he didn’t get as much attention last night, he deserves extra.

The bed creaks as she plops on it, letting out a heavy sigh. Kiyo, the best fluffy noodle to ever fluffy noodle, climbs up onto her stomach. His dark fur is soft under her hand, he tries to nip her bandages, earning him a soft boop on the nose. What would have happened to him if she had been killed? Pets aren’t technically allowed in the employee dorms. No one else even knows about him. If she had died or not been able to come back, he’d be left all alone. No one would know to come take him in. She hugs him tighter, she can’t let that happen.

She knows what the mature thing to do is; give him to someone who can actually own him. Someone that doesn’t have to worry about that kind of thing. If she was a better person she never would have got him in the first place. But, she’s too selfish to part with him. She doesn’t want to be completely alone, he’s the best thing in her life.

That leaves her with one choice, telling someone about him, making sure they’ll care for him if something happens to her. Her best choices are obvious; Chisato and Sakiko. Chisato is kind and caring, she’d be sure to take good care of Kiyo, but she’s not a huge rule breaker. Sakiko, who works in the casino, is flightier, but she’d be more okay with a little bit of chaos. They balance each other well and are the friendliest with her at the hotel. She’ll have to invite them over, the first time she’s had people in her dorm. The idea already makes her uncomfortable, but Kiyo’s worth it.

“Okay, Kiyo,” she sits up and puts him in front of her, “we need an action plan.”

A part of her knows how silly it is to make plans with her ferret, but she likes thinking out loud and she’d rather direct her thoughts at something with a pulse than the walls, To his credit, Kiyo always seems to go along with it, never wandering off during one of her spiels.

“First things first, I need to invite Kurihara and Koizumi over. Now, when they get here, you need to be as cute as ferretly possible, understood?” his tongue bleps out, “I see you’re already on it, good boy.”

She grabs her phone and starts typing in a to-do list, putting ‘Invite’ as the top thing. It’s best not to get into too many details, considering her situation, she doesn’t want someone to see her phone and figure it out.

“Next, I’ll need to do some research, going in blind is never a good idea,” another item for the list, “I think sticking to my original escape plan should stay plan A. He might have just been in a bad mood last night, he might listen to reason more today.”

Kiyo makes a soft dooking noise and jumps, she’ll take that as agreement.

“Hmmm, if I’m lucky, they won’t even bother me. But, I’m not that luc-” She hops off the bed, the good luck talisman, she forgot all about it. Kiyo is bouncing after her, his noises getting louder, he thinks it’s play time.

She fishes the talisman out of her dirty uniform. She’ll have to drop it off in lost and found today. She doesn’t really believe in good luck charms, it obviously didn’t work for her yesterday, but she can tell how precious it must be to the owner. Her alarm goes off as she’s tucks it into her pocket.

She’s giving Kiyo smooches as she takes him to his cage, putting him in the level with all of his toys. He seems content, already chewing on them, but she makes a note to play an extra long game of tag with him tonight.

Tsuneko triple checks she has everything before leaving, her chest is tight as she heads to the Tres Spades. Yesterday, it was her busy little safe haven, but now it’s like walking into a war zone. She hopes they’ll leave her alone, that somehow this entire mess will fade away like a bad memory. But, that’s far too idealistic and she knows it.

The employee locker room is a flurry of activity, everyone getting ready for the work day. Sakiko and Chisato catch her attention, her locker is between theirs. She takes a deep breath and makes her way over.

“Tsuneko!” Sakiko’s eyes widen, her movements bouncy. Chisato gives a soft smile.

“Hey, Koizumi, Kurihara,” Tsuneko greets as she gets out her uniform.

“Ugh, god, I’m barely older than you, can you please just call me Sakiko?!”

“The more you whine, the less I wanna do it,” Tsuneko tease and Sakiko pouts at her.

“You can just call me Chisato too, by the way,” she says through a laugh.

“Okay, Chisato.” The names feels a bit odd on her lips, she likes keeping a certain amount of distance, but she has known the two for almost a year and she’s going to trust them enough to care for Kiyo.

“Hey! That’s not fair!”

“That’s life,” Tsuneko finishes changing into her uniform and make sure it’s in place. It’s still tight around her chest and stomach, she needs to request a size up, but she keeps forgetting.

“By the way, what happened yesterday?” Chisato asks, her eyes focus on Tsuneko’s bandaged hand, “Kenzaki said you had to go home early.”

“Oh, one of the shelves in the storage room came down on top of me, I’m fine though.” The lie comes out easy, but her stomach churns at the confirmation that Kenzaki knows about the auctions and is covering for them. He’s always been an odd guy, but she has a lot of respect for him.

“Are you going to be able to work like that?”

“Yeah, I have painkillers, I’ll manage. Yesterday was just a bad day.”

“It wasn’t all bad though.” Sakiko’s smiling like the cat that ate the canary

“How you figure?” Tsuneko raises an eyebrow as she puts her hair up.

“Duh, you got up close and personal with The King!”

“Ichinomiya?”

“You finally figured out who he was?” Chisato smiles at Tsuneko’s past stupidity.

“Not as quick, as I would have liked to, but yes.”

“Your heart must have been racing! He’s handsome and worth billions, women chase after him everywhere he goes. What did he smell like? I bet he wears super expensive cologne.” Sakiko’s words come out in a rush, she bounces on the balls of her feet, and her eyes are downright sparkling.

“He smelled like an entitled dickhead, because that’s all he is.” Someone like Ichinomiya doesn’t deserve someone like Sakiko swooning over him.

“Ugh, don’t burst my bubble like that.”

“If I don’t reality will.”

“Chisato agrees with me, right?”

“Uhhhhh, he looks like a man.” Chisato shrugs.

“Pfffft, that he does.” Tsuneko grins and tries not to laugh, Sakiko thumps her head against her locker.

“Why do I bother?”

“Hey!” Erika yells out and marches towards Tsuneko with the twins in tow, “What do you think you’re doing getting hurt at work?”

“I assure you, it wasn’t intentional.”

“If you’re too hurt to work, you might as well go home, otherwise you’re just going to get in the way!”

“Get in the way!” Rina and Kana parrot, maybe they just like feeling included?

“I’ll do my best to keep up, sorry for any trouble,”

“And,” Erika’s face flushes a dark pink, “would you order a new uniform already, what if a guest saw you like that!”

Tsuneko looks down, one of the buttons came undone on her uniform, her pink bra and cleavage peeking through. Her face heats up and she clamors to fix it.

“I’ll put in an order shortly.”

“You better, now hurry up, we have a morning meeting!”

“Hurry up!” One final comment, if you can call it that, and the trio marches out of the locker room.

“Why does she hate you so much?” Sakiko asks, long ponytail waving with the shake of her head.

“Fuck if I know, fuck if I care.”

“She doesn’t hate you,” Chisato explains, Tsuneko stares at her with wide eyes, what the hell does she mean by that?

“She just yelled at me for getting hurt.” Tsuneko rolls her eyes.

“That’s her way of telling you to be careful and to go home if you’re not feeling well,” Chisato says softly, her big sister energy hitting max level.

“You speak Erika now?” Sakiko raises an eyebrow, just as confused as Tsuneko.

“No, I speak gay.”

“Are you seriously implying she likes me?”

“Not implying, just letting you know.”

“You’re delusional.” Tsuneko shakes her head and lets out a sigh, this is ridiculous. She gets her binders out and shuts her locker.

“You’ll see, lets get to the meeting,” Chisato reminds them of work and they all leave the locker room.

The meeting room is slowly filling, coworkers drifting in, they all plop down in chairs to wait. Tsuneko will invite out during her lunch break, it might be a little weird to jump into inviting them to her dorm. She’ll ask them to go get something to eat, then hang out at her place. Her fridge is still out of booze, maybe she’ll invite them drinking first. If they’re a little tipsy, they might be more okay with the whole illegal ferret thing.

“Tomori!” A cheerful voice catches her eye, it’s one of the maids, Yayoi.

“You need something?”

“I wanted to thank you for taking over my shift yesterday, I got really sick and I heard you got hurt, I’m so sorry for the trouble.” She bows her head, mess of orange hair falling in her face. Technically, this isn’t her fault, but Tsuneko can’t help grimacing. If she hadn’t been called in, she wouldn’t be in this mess. God damn it, Yayoi.

“It’s fine, don’t sweat it.” Her tone comes out colder than she wants, but Yayoi doesn’t seem bothered, taking a seat as the meeting starts.

Tsuneko’s mind wanders off and on through the meeting, more than she’d care to admit. It’s hard to focus on day to day work stuff when she’s dealing with being bought. They wouldn’t be so stupid to do anything to draw attention to themselves or the situation, so she should be allowed a normal work day.If she’s lucky, they’ll just keep an eye on her and her life won’t change much. She fiddles with the charm in her pocket.

Relying on that would be naive though, at the very least, she should have enough time to think of back up plans in case the rational approach doesn’t work. She’s scheduled to work alone today, so she should be able to sneak some phone research during lulls in activity as well as on her break.

She wants this whole thing to end. It’s ridiculous that someone could even want to own her, but Ichinomiya seems like a genuinely garbage human being. As much as she’d like to believe he was just in a bad mood, everything about the man makes her skin crawl. From refusing to let her speak to insisting he’s the determiner of her worth, he’s a repulsive person. She’ll need to start coming up with other plans and quick.

“We also have a very important announcement. We’re adding a new job position here at the Tres Spades regarding the penthouse suites.”

The mention of the penthouse makes her snap back to attention, her glare on Kenzaki. They can’t be that stupid.

“I’ve been the one tending to the penthouse for a while, but we’ve deemed it necessary to promote a maid to take care of the penthouse and it’s guests from now on.”

This has to be a coincidence. They have to know this will raise red flags, she hasn’t even been here a year. Her stomach draw tight and she sinks into her seat. Erika catches her eye, excitement radiating off the head maid. She’s been here since the beginning, if anyone deserves a promotion it’s her.

“The penthouse maid will be responsible for cleaning the suites and lounge, as well as attending to the needs of the guests staying there. They will be expected to prioritize the penthouse and it’s guests, but still be responsible for their regular duties. It’s a big responsibility and a lot of time was spent thinking over who would get the position.”

If any gods are listening, please save her, please let it be a coincidence and Erika is getting promoted. Just let her have that, she grips tighter to the good luck talisman, just a little luck. That’s all she wants.

“It’s with a lot of pride, I announce that Tomori Tsuneko will our new penthouse maid.”

“Seriously!”

“What!?”

Tsuneko and Erika’s both yell out, the headmaid slams her hands down and jolts from her seat. Her sharp brown eyes glare at Tsuneko, who sinks further in her seat.

“With all due respect,” Erika continues, “Tomori hasn’t even been here a year. She’s barely shown herself capable of taking care of normal guests, let alone the penthouse guests. I cannot accept this!”

“Cannot accept this!” Rina and Kana jump up too, three glares now focus on Tsuneko. She fidgets with the charm in her pocket. Good luck charm, her ass.

“I agree!” She yells back, standing up to meet their gazes, “If anyone should take it, I think it should be Matsuda, she’s been here since the beginning, and deserves it more than anyone.”

Erika and Tsuneko have had their differences, they’ve butted heads over a lot of things, but that doesn’t change the facts. Granted, Tsuneko also really doesn’t want to deal with the penthouse guests, but Erika takes her work seriously and is a model employee. Being passed over for a promotion she damn well deserves because of some bullshit situation isn’t right. Erika has every right to feel cheated.

“I appreciate both of your concerns and I know you both just want the best for the Tres Spades,” Kenzaki takes his usual diplomatic approach, “However, seniority doesn’t decide promotions and Tomori was chosen specifically by Mr. Ichinomiya. I’m confident that she’s more than capable of excelling in this position. That will be all, everyone is dismissed, except Tomori. I have some things to go over with you, regarding your new position. Everyone go and work hard today.”

Everyone starts to file out, Erika and the twins linger a while longer to glare, before they finally leave. Tsuneko rakes a hand down her face, she’s alone with Kenzaki now. If it was a legitimate promotion she’d probably be excited, even if she thinks Erika deserves it more. Even if she isn’t crazy about working as a maid, she wants to be damn good one and a promotion would show her hard work is paying off. But, that’s not what this is. It’sa way for them to keep her under their thumb.

“So, what do you need to talk to me about?”

“You’ll be needing these,” Kenzaki hands her an elevator key and a two way pager, “he penthouse guests will be able to page you whenever they need you. I’ve already said this, but I’ll reiterate that you’re to prioritize the penthouse while still taking care of normal guests.”

“So, I’m now a maid and their bitch.”

“I know you’ll do well,” Kenzaki says, smiling as he leave the room. She’s starting to rethink the amount of respect she has for that man. She adds the pager and key to her growing amount of pocket junk, before she steps into the lobby.

Eventually, she’ll have to go to the penthouse, but she’s not in a rush. Unless she’s paged, she can save it for the end of her shift and she fully intends to. She gets a cleaning cart and takes a deep breath before she starts work.

The added duties of coming up with escape plans and researching the penthouse guests, makes her day seem busier. In a way, she almost enjoys it. Lulls in work usually bore her, but she’d rather anything else be causing her busier day.

She’s finishes cleaning a bathroom, then gets her phone out and takes a moment to search Ichinomiya. He’s the most important one, the biggest priority. Everything she finds seems so surface level, his taking over the Ichinomiya group Zaibatsu and opening the Tres Spades. His net worth makes her choke, money is definitely not the issue. His pocket change is probably more than she’s ever seen in her life. He can’t be concerned about the twenty-million, his back count probably generate more than that a minute. There are a few gossipy rumor spreading tabloid articles, but nothing with any evidence. A few fluff articles that do nothing but gush about his looks, her eyes roll at those. No major legal problems or scandals. He’s good at hiding thing from the public eye, like any business man. She’s gives up on finding much else after the fifth google page and goes to clean the rest of the room.

It’s on an elevator ride to the next floor, alone, that she does some searching on Oh Soryu. Nothing relevant pops up for his name, as expected of someone in a crime syndicate, he’s kept a low profile. The Ice Dragons mafia brings up more relevant information. They’re a known Chinese criminal syndicate, part of the Triads, but there’s not a lot of information. Other than a few small incidents, the Ice Dragons have stayed off the radar. he’s able to find general information on triads, the structure of them. She finds a list of the thirty-six oaths member supposedly take during initiation. She’s not sure how legitimate they are. A skim through shows the oaths emphasize not hurting women or children. If Oh abides by these, he might not be her biggest threat, she saves the huge list to read more thoroughly later.

An hour or two later, she’s made a bed, the rest of the room doesn’t need a lot of attention. Kisaki is her next research subject. He’s called the Angelic Artist, his conniving shit face smirk come to mind and makes her groan. Definitely more gremliny than angelic. Art is not her thing, but she can tell he’s good. His works suck the viewer in, a clear passion behind it. He’s renowned in the art world and even a novice like her can tell why. There are plenty of people gushing about how attractive he is and how sweet he supposedly is. All pictures are of that fake smile that doesn’t reach his eyes. No scandals or mentions of criminal activity, he’s apparently involved in the fashion world as well. A few passing things mention his “come back”, like he took a hiatus, she’d guess. The paparazzi seem fixated on him, she didn’t know artists got that kind of attention.

Her lunch break comes around and she makes a beeline for a seat. She didn’t bring in anything to eat and she doesn’t bother to get anything from the serving area. There’s too much to do and not enough time to do it. She sets her binders out in front of her and gets out her phone.

Next is Baba, he said he’s a thief and understandably his name doesn’t turn up anything of interest. But, she remembers seeing a few news articles about a thief in passing. He’s called Lupin something, she searches around for that, he’s apparently been seen in brightly colored suits and his heists all have some level of dramatic flair. It’s hard to find much, though he doesn’t seem it, Baba does apparently have the ability to be subtle. A few articles mention of trend of his targets later being revealed to have committed crimes themselves, it doesn’t seem like a coincidence. Maybe he fancies himself a Robin Hood type?

“Are you not eating?” Chisato asks, her and Sakiko are sitting down at the table.

“I’m not hungry, my stomach’s been in knots,” Tsuneko tucks her phone away and gets to doing work for guests. Mostly requests for pamphlets and brochures, wanting ideas on what to do with their time here. A few asking for special accommodations or items. She organizes what she needs, putting things together with cute paperclips and sticky notes of who needs what.

“Are you nervous about the promotion?”

“You could say that.” She’s thought of a plan B, but she doesn’t like it, her leg bounces.

“Look,” Chisato starts, eyes soft, “I don’t care what you or Erika say, you’re going to do great.”

“Appreciate it, but she’s not wrong. I can’t really get why they promoted me.”

“I know why.” Sakiko says, a sing songy lilt to her voice.

“Oh, enlighten me, beacon of wisdom.” Tsuneko rolls her eyes, this is going to be stupid.

“Love at first sight,” Sakiko lets out a dreamy sigh.

“What?”

“Think about it, you bump into The King yesterday and now he’s promoting you to keep you close,” she explains the asinine thoughts going through her head.

“That’s the stupidest thing you’ve ever said, which is saying a lot,” Tsuneko shakes her head and grabs a cookie off Sakiko’s tray, earning a pout from her.

“He was pretty rude, yesterday,” Chisato says, shaking her head at Sakiko’s bullshit.

“He was a dickhead and a half is what he was.” Tsuneko grumbles through a bite of cookie.

““So, some guys are bad with feelings. Maybe he was so overwhelmed that he said the wrong thing. It’s love- and I thought you weren’t hungry!” Her focus shift as Tsuneko grabs a strawberry off her plate.

“It’s a stupidity fee, you say something stupid, I take your food.” Tsuneko tosses the fruit in her mouth.

“What if he confesses to you?”

“That’s gonna cost you another strawberry.” She bites down on another.

“Hey!”

“If you want to eat today, I suggest you be quiet,” Chisato teases.

“I’m being serious, what would you do?”

“If he confessed to me,” Tsuneko pretends to think for a moment, “I’d puke.”

“You’re the only person I know who’d turn down a man like that,” Sakiko laments, pulling the rest of her lunch away protectively.

“That’s just depressing,” she swallows down the stolen fruit, “by the way, um, do you guys wanna hang out tonight?”

Her face is warm and the words came out more awkward than she would’ve liked. Sakiko and Chisato’s eyes widen. Tsuneko shrinks down in her seat and stares at the floor. She considers them work friends, just work friends. The last time she spent time with any of them outside of work was her first day here, a small party held by all her coworkers to welcome her. All she remembers of the night is getting blackout drunk. It’s been a long time since she’s had friends, without any caveats or precursors.

“Oh my god, you’re so cute!” Sakiko gives a huge smile and Chisato has a softer one.

“Shut up! Do you wanna hang out or not?!” The words come out as a squeak and her face is on fire, she’s not cute, damn it.

“Yes!”

“Sounds fun, any idea where you want to go?”

“The casual little bar up the road?” Tsuneko offers, if it’s not during their shift they’re allowed to drink at the hotel bar and get a small discount, but she wants to get away from the hotel.

“Oh, yeah, I know where you’re talking about, we can meet up there after work.”

They all agree to the plans, Sakiko and Chisato are weirdly excited. Tsuneko feels warm and fuzzy, do they really want to spend time with her that bad? She starts tidying up her binders and sticky notes. She’s researched all of the penthouse residents, she has a risky plan B, and has everything in order for the guests.

“Oh, uh, Tomori?” A male voice catches her attention, it’s a male concierge Takahiro.

“Hey, Kuroba.” She can’t imagine what he needs from her.

“This is yours right?” He’s holding pastel pink Pokemon tupperware, a Sylveon design on the top and her panda sticky note still stuck on it.

“Yes!” She sits up and takes it from him, “with everything yesterday, I forgot all about it, thank you, so much.”

She’s hugging it to her chest, it’s a limited edition and if she lost it she’d have a hell of a time finding a replacement.

“Glad, I got it back to you then.” His face looks a little red, but that might be her imagination. Or he’s been running around all day.

“Um, how’d you know it was mine?” She remembers herself and blushes, she didn’t want people to know she did it. It may seem stupid, but something about it is embarrassing.

“You’re the only person I know who uses sticky notes like that.” He points at the sticky notes on her binder. Panda sticky notes on a kitty binder, she’s a twenty-two year old woman.

“Uh, yeah….I like cute stuff.” She blushes down to her chest, but shrugs. It’s stupid to be embarrassed by the things she likes. She’s an adult and if she wants to surround herself with all things adorable, she has the right to. But, she’s also well aware that it changes people’s impression of her. Apparently, it’s hard to take someone seriously when they’re using a bunny pen.

“Wait, you made those cookies, Tsuneko!?” Sakiko blurts out and Tsuneko sinks further into her seat. God, she wants to die.

“Yeah….I guess.”

“They were so good, everyone loved them! I didn’t know you could bake!” Sakiko’s words jumble together and Tsuneko thought she got too excited over food.

“Uh, yeah, I like sweets,” Tsuneko murmurs, staring at the table.

“Feel free to bring more in any time, everyone really appreciated them,” Takahiro puts a comforting hand on her shoulder and smiles, “by the way has your hand been giving you any trouble, Tomori?”

“Not really, it hurts, but I’m getting my work done.” She relaxes a bit, it was nice of him to change the subject.

“Well, if you need any help just let me know, it can’t be easy getting hurt and having more work on top of it.”

“I appreciate it, but don’t worry, besides cleaning rooms isn’t really your job. If I need a hand, I’m sure one of the other maids will help.” It doesn’t exactly make sense to ask a concierge to help with maid work, even if it’s a kind offer.

“Uh, yeah,” his face is red again, “that’s true, but my offer stands, don’t push yourself. Um, I have to get back to work, see you later.”

Tsuneko waves him off as he scampers away, he’s a nice guy, but that was…awkward. She gathers up her things, the lunch break is about over.

“Are you both ready to go?” Chisato sighs and Sakiko pinches the bridge of her nose, “what’s wrong?”

“I swear to god Tsuneko.” Sakiko looks ready to fall over.

“What?!”

“Romance isn’t your strong suit, huh?” Chisato shakes her head.

“What?”

“Kuroba. Likes. You,” Sakiko drags every word out.

“That’s ridiculous.”

“Oh my god, I’m going to scream.” Sakiko grabs at her head, she’s being ridiculous.

“Let it go, Sakiko, she’s hopeless.” Chisato stands up with her tray and leaves the table.

“Hey, what's that supposed to mean!?” Tsuneko yells out as Sakiko follows behind Chisato. She’s left alone, yelling at a cafeteria table. A few coworkers shoot her funny looks and she runs off with her face flushing.

She puts her tupperware in her locker before going back to work. Putting the break time weirdness from her mind, she focuses on her job. She still hasn’t been paged and without a plan she feels confident in, she’s dragging it out as much as she can. Her plan B is risky at best, stupid at worse.

She’s reaching the end of her regular work schedule when the pager goes off. Her heart catches in her throat and her blood runs cold. She snatches it from her pocket, almost dropping it as she tries to figure out how it works. Who the fuck uses pagers anymore?

“Be in the penthouse in five minutes,” Ichinomiya’s voices comes out from the pager, she apparently found the answer button. The penthouse is further than five minutes away, but she’s trying to catch the asshole in a good mood, being late or making excuses won’t do her any favors.

“Right away, sir,” she tries to respond, but she has no idea if it goes through, because pagers confuse her.

She uses her cleaning cart as a scooter through the more vacant halls, trying to shave off even a few seconds off her time. It still takes her longer than she’d like to make it to the penthouse elevator. Having to walk in front of guests, because professionalism, dooms her.

The elevator carriage lurches into movement and she takes a deep breath. She’s going to try the rational approach again, she decided that long ago. But, her backup plan, oh god she doesn’t want to rely on her backup plan. It’s all she could think of.

Starting the first legal casino, mention of just how hard he fought to pass the laws needed to create it, everything about the hotel is themed around this. The name of the hotel is the Tres Spades for god’s sake. It’d be clear to anyone, Ichinomiya is a betting man.

The elevator comes to a stop and she scoots on her cleaning cart to the lounge doors. She steps back off, double checks her uniform is in order, before trudging inside.

“Excuse me, I was paged.” All of the men from last night are there.

“You’re two minutes late,” Ichinomiya says coldly, “go make me coffee.”

“My apologies sir,” she forces her customer service voice, “how do you take your coffee?”

“Three sugars and milk.” He doesn’t bother to look up from whatever forms he’s reading over.

“Understood, would anyone else like something to drink?”

“Aww, how thoughtful,” Baba comments with a sickly sweet smile.

“She’s trying to be a good girl,” Kisaki teases, is he ever not smirking?

She bites her lip and clenches her fist, a fresh ache of pain shoots through her injured hand. The rest of the men tell her what they want to drink and she makes her way to the kitchen area of the lounge. Her mind wanders as she puts together the drinks, she wants nothing more than to just confront the elephant in the room. Blunt and straightforward suits her best, it’s how she likes dealing with stuff.

“Shit,” she curses under her breath, she’s poured more milk in than she meant to, Ichinomiya’s coffee has barely a tint of brown to it. Not a good start, but he’ll get upset if she takes too long, she decides to bite the bullet and take the drinks in as is.

“Need any help, pretty lady?” Baba asks when she steps out, a pointed look at her bandaged hand.

“No, thank you.” Even if he’s being genuine, she doesn’t trust him or anyone here as far as she can throw them. She sets the tray down and places everyone’s drinks in front of them.

“Thank you, princess, you know if you wanted I could have taken care of you hand.”

“No one wants to play doctor with you, old man,” Kisaki tells him.

“I just wanted to give her some tender loving care.” Baba winks at her and she rolls her eyes, even if she’s trying to be nice, she can only take so much.

“Can’t believe the kid stabbed one of ‘em.” Kishi has a grin on his face, like it’s funny. It’s the most personality she’s seen out of him, in all honesty she forgot he existed.

“Should we hide the vases or something?” Kisaki looks at the glass vases on some of the tables.

“She should be thankful she’s even alive,” Oh cuts in, voice as harsh as ever.

“Enough,” Ichinomiya gives Tsuneko an intense stare and points at a chair near him, “sit.”

She bites her lip and glares at him. It takes every measure of her self control to sit down and not scream.

“Aww, she’s already learned how to sit, good girl, Koro,” Kisaki pretends to coo over her.

“Sign this.” Ichinomiya plops a stack of documents into her lap, a quick glance shows it’s a confidentiality agreement. He’s going with her original idea, she didn’t even have to plead her case, maybe he was just messing with her last night? Getting some laughs before he drew up the papers.

“You can practically see her tail wagging.”

“Great!” she ignores Kisaki, “I’ll just sign this and we’ll forget this whole thing ever happened.”

“Don’t be ridiculous,” Ichinomiya brings his coffee to his lips and takes a drink, a hint of a smile on his lips, “we still own you, this is just some extra assurance you won’t try to tell anyone about the auctions.”

“What!?”

“I’m not repeating myself.”

“Look, with all-”

“This isn’t open for discussion.”

“Yes it is, I’m discussing right now in fact!” She jolts from her seat, letting the papers fall, and glares at Ichinomiya. All hints of composure or calm have left her. What is this guy’s problem? Kisaki hides away the vase nearest to him.

“I see you’ve dropped the goody-two shoes act.” He’s still smirking and if it wouldn’t destroy her hand right now, she’d punch him.

“I’m sorry, you all wasted your money on me, but it was just that, a waste! There’s nothing I can do for any of you and no reason to keep me!” She shakes her clenched fists and her face feels like it’s on fire, this is the stupidest fucking thing. Ichinomiya stands up, he towers over her.

“I don’t need a reason.” His voice is calm, the fact he can be so calm while she’s fuming pisses her off even more.

“Yes, you fucking do!”

“I bought you, I own you. When I tell you something, you say ‘yes’ or ‘okay’, there is no third option. Understood?”

“Fuck off.”

“Well, I think that’s enough negotiations for one day.” Baba claps his hands together, trying to end the argument. Ichinomiya scowls at her and she doesn’t look away.

“I can still get rid of her, if you want,” Soryu offers, his hand moving underneath his jacket.

“Don’t worry,” a devious glint lights Ichinomiya’s eyes, “I’ll find a use for her.”

He turns on the heels of his feet, he’s ending the discussion, but she’s not. It’s time for plan B.

“You want to bet?” She yells out and crosses her arms over her chest, Ichinomiya stops in his tracks, just before the winding staircase. She hates risky moves, but he loves them. Her heart hammers in her chest, but she forces a cold expression as he turns to face her.

“A bet?”

“Two weeks to find a ‘use for me and determine my worth’,” she mimics his voice at the end, “It has to be something specific to me, no cop out bullshit, nothing just anyone could do. If by the end of the month, I haven’t done anything to benefit you, it means there’s no point in owning me and we forget the whole thing. If you do find a use for me, it means I’m worth owning and I’ll stop fighting you on it.”

For the first time since this entire mess started, it looks like Ichinomiya’s listened to her. He breaks eye contact and seems to consider her words for a moment, his amused grin never leaves his face.

“During the two weeks, you’re not to take a vacation, quit, avoid me, or any other forms of running. You will still act as an employee and can’t shirk any responsibilities for the sake of the bet.”

“Fair enough, we have a deal?” Tsuneko offers her non-injured hand, her gaze and Ichinomiya’s meet, each challenging the other to back down.

“I don’t lose,” he warns as he shakes her hand, his skin warm against hers and his grip firm.

“There’s a first time for everything.”

He rolls his eyes then turns back around, descending up the stairs, her hand still warm from his grasp. She lets out a heavy breath, this is the last thing she wanted. There’s a pit in her stomach and she regrets stealing that food at lunch, she feels like she’s about to puke. Her hand finds the good luck charm still in her pocket, the feel of the worn fabric has become an odd comfort, maybe she’ll hold onto it for a while longer. If good luck exists, she needs as much of it as she can get.

CHAPTER 1 - 018

After talking to everyone with Hitomi, we decided to follow Midori to the rec room. She said there were some people discussing the… recent events, so we figured we’d go check it out and see what the general consensus on how we should deal with this is.

There were about 5 other people in the rec room when we went in -- Naomasa, Naoto, Mitsunari, Taiyou and Keiji. That meant that half of us were discussing the motive in the rec room. Midori closed the door behind us, and we walked over to the others. Naomasa was the first to speak.

“Lovely of you to join us, ladies.”

“Hey there! Matsuba mentioned this to us, so we figured we’d drop by.”

“Yeah, we were just talking about the… y’know.”

“Yes. That.”

“We set this up so we could touch base with each other, and make sure there wasn’t anything concerning about these forums.”

“I am a bit concerned about the others who didn’t show up though…”

The others who didn’t show up… that’d be Yuu, Hitoshi, Haruka, Naomi, Asahi, Yuki, Kasumi and Kotori. We talked to 2 of them, and we tried to talk to Kotori, but she was talking to someone else. I wondered what was up with the other 5?

“Well, what’s important now is the people who did show up.”

“Guess so. We’re just talkin’ ‘bout these bullshit forums. Where did that fucker even get these from? Did he really take’em from the school?”

“He said that he did, but given his nature, I don’t really think we can trust what he says.”

“So, what do we do? Just… Hmmm… Anyone got any ideas?”

“Well, like Oxford Blue over there said, we’ve just been tellin’ each other what’s on our forums to make sure nobody’s like, a serial killer, or somethin’.” That was an… interesting way to put it.

“Oh, alright then. I didn’t really see anything noteworthy on mine, unless you count some broken bones from rough soccer matches as something noteworthy.”

“I-I can confirm that! I, um, I got your forum, Kurosawa.”

“Ah, that’s right! We all get two forums, I forgot.” How did I forget that? Get it together, Ichigo.

“So, do we just… go around the circle then…?”

Hitomi was next.

“Well, um… I was born with transverse deficiency... basically, I’m missing my left leg.”

“And as a result of that, I’ve been wearing a prosthetic for most of my life.” She lifted her skirt a bit to show the others her leg.

“...”

“Damn…”

”...Can’t imagine how tough that is… only havin’ one leg and havin’ to walk around with another that ain’t really yours…”

“Well, I guess it is kinda yours ‘cuz you own it, but it ain’t really yours cuz it’s… a fake leg… y’know what I mean.”

“Yeah… I get it.”

“...Thank you for sharing. Yamazaki? Taiyou said she received your forum as well, but is there something you’d like to share with us?”

“Well, there is the reason I was scouted into Hope’s Peak in the first place…”

“In school, my average grade for math assignments and tests currently sits at 100, and it’s sat there ever since they started keeping track of my averages. My averages in subjects that involve a lot of math like science are also in the high ninetys.”

“The school board was baffled by how this was possible, and some of my teachers thought I was cheating. So when I was about thirteen, I was sent on a plane to the University of Tokyo, where I was tasked with solving 10 of the university’s most difficult math problems, while being watched by some of the professors to make sure I wasn’t cheating, because they didn’t believe that I could do it either. Joke’s on them, because I managed to solve them all correctly and flawlessly in precisely six minutes and thirty-eight seconds.”

“They still didn’t believe it, so they took me to get an IQ test. I scored 166. That’s when I hit the news, and Hope’s Peak eventually found out about me, and put me into their Super Junior High School Level Divison, and after that... here I am now.”

“Wow… that’s impressive!” Of course, he had already told me this information, but it was still crazy knowing a person as smart as he was!

“Whoa! You’re, like, one of the smartest people out there, and you’re only in high school!”

“He’s right! And with that IQ… you’re a literal genius!”

“Aw, c’mon, it’s not that special.”

“You’ve been a Hope’s Peak student for years, and you’re the guy who scored 166 on his IQ test when he was thirteen. I wouldn’t call that ‘not special’! Who knows what your IQ is now?”

“She’s got a point! Mitsunari’s already told me that there’s nothing he wants to share, so it’s my turn!”

“Really, the only interesting thing on here is that I’ve been playing in the band since I was thirteen. Keiji?”

“...Nothing really on mine.”

“Keiji, I got your forum. I know.”

“...Okay, fine, I’ll spill.”

“...We yarnbombed an entire park in the dead of night. Me and my knitting group.”

“You did what.”

“It was really fun! It was part of an event that we were participating in centered around art, so it was perfectly legal.”

“Why would they put that on your forum?”

“It was part of the reason I was scouted. They wanted someone from that group, and since I was the only one still in high school, they chose me!”

“Haha! You’re pretty wild, Thistle!”

“There ain’t too much on mine, ‘cept for the fact that I apparently grew an inch since they filled this out.”

“Alright then. Matsuba, you’re our last one!”

“O-Oh, me? Hehe, um, well…”

“Y-Y’know how Monomage said that some of us might be keeping secrets about our talents…?”

“Yeah, what about that?”

“Well…”

“...”

“!!!”

“???”

“Lil’ Candytuft… yer a-”

“Yes. I am.”

“Midori is… not real. She’s just one of the many identities I have assumed while going undercover. Everything you see on me is fake. The clothes, the hair, the makeup, the contacts, everything.”

“But… why’dja go undercover as a chocolatier?”

“You wouldn’t believe what some people put in those chocolates.”

“...Jesus Christ.”

“...Also, I received your forum, um… Toyama? Matsuba?”

“Matsuba’s fine. I’ll need to keep up this facade for a while anyway.”

“Facade?”

“You can’t exactly be an undercover officer without criminals and their associates in your midst… and I’ll just leave it at that.” What did she mean by that? Was there a criminal in the building with us who wasn’t being truthful about who they were?

...Did they have something to do with our kidnapping?

“...Right then. I’m no criminal expert, but if that criminal is really here and out for you, then staying hidden is probably a smart choice.”

“Yeah… but the thought of having a criminal after you is horrible to think about…”

“It is, but it’s something I have to think about a lot. I don’t really get scared thinking about it that much, but I guess that’s because I’m used to it.”

“I suppose that makes sense.”

“Well, I’m glad we all had this discussion. I suppose we should all just wander around until suppe-”

“Not so fast!”

“Gah!”

“You!”

“...”

“Now what exactly is going on here? I give you those forums as a potential way to kill each other and here you are reading the contents like it’s some show and tell bullshit!”

“So what? You can’t control what we do wit’em, and you can’t stop us from talkin’ bout’em either!”

“Yeah, he’s right. It’s literally in the rules that you told us to follow.” She quickly booted up her Student Handbook.

“4. The host may not interfere with the students unless they break a rule or specifically request it.”

“You’d literally be breaking your own rules if you tried to force us to stop talking about it. Besides, you literally gave us a motive to kill someone. It’s only natural that it’d be a hot topic for discussion.” She was clearly trying to keep up her image as Midori, but it was almost like I could hear Chisato slipping through the cracks of her sentence.

“Well, I never! Seems like your law knowledge is coming in handy there, Officer!”

“...” I guess Monomage already knew who she was. She didn’t look scared though, so maybe Monomage wasn’t the criminal she mentioned.

“But, I guess since we’re all sharing stuff about each other…” He reached for the brim of his hat. “...I think it’s only fair that I share something about me!”

In that instant, he whipped the hat off his head, and…

...and…

“Ta-da!”

...What the heck.

“What.”

“You’re kiddin’ me.”

“What the fuck?!”

“Well, aren’t you just a pleasant bunch. Didn’t your parents ever teach you manners?”

“W-We were taught to express gratitude to stuff we liked, not stuff like this. What the damn were you expecting reactionwise?”

“Yeah! Tell’im like it is!”

“Oh, I get it! You all are just jealous that you don’t have luscious locks like mine! Shahahahaha!”

“Oh, you think you’re hot shit, huh?” Naomasa stood up from where he was sitting and reached behind his head.

“Oh? A challenger approaches? A challenger who thinks his hair attracts more attention than mine? Shahaha! You can’t get higher quality than this, Mr. Saxobeat!” Monomage’s taunting didn’t seem to deter Naomasa in the slightest, because in mere seconds…

“You wanna bet?”

“...”

“!!!”

“Well, how bout that!”

“Seriously, you could probably be a shampoo model with hair like that!”

“Oh, come on! What happened to little ol’ me?”

“You’re not important.”

“You’ve also just lost a bet.”

“Well, aren’t you just gentlemen! Guess I’ll leave you to your ‘teamwork’ bullcrap!” With a wave of his staff, his hat reappeared on his head and his hair was stuffed back inside.

“Thank you for choosing the Despairing Sunset Inn, and we hope you enjoy your miserable stay! Happy slaughtering!” He disappeared in yet another puff of smoke.

“Off he goes again.”

“Better gone than here, I suppose.”

“What was that all about, anyway?”

“I… couldn’t tell you, honestly.” I’d been confused the entire time Monomage had been in the room. First, he was condemning us for sharing our forums with each other, and then he was sharing… “information” about himself with all of us. Was he trying to confuse us, or did he have something else in mind?

“Whatever it was, we managed to chase him off again.”

“You mean you chased him off with that hair of yours.”

“Hehehe, just doing my best.”

I had to chuckle at that. After a bit of banter between Naomasa and Keiji, we all decided to head back. One or two people stayed behind, but the majority of us left for other places in the inn. I, however, wanted to check in with those people I hadn’t talked to earlier… That’d be Hitoshi, Nobuyuki, Kasumi, Asahi, and Naomi. I wondered what they thought of the whole thing?
