Update on Kill Blue - it continues to be EXCELLENT and I'm so sad it doesn't seem to be gaining traction with readers bc it's a really well constructed action show that interrogates the macho front its protagonist put up his whole life in such a cool and fun way I'M IN LOVE??

Like in the recent arc he runs across a magical girl show and clearly in his Previous Life he'd just scoffed at it, but he remembers his daughter loved it so he gives it a shot and

I mean clearly this is supposed to be funny but it also says something that because what Juzo is doing right now doesn't really "count" in a way that he just can do stuff like that, just let himself truly get immersed, to enjoy things on the face of it not what it looks like

We see this through the whole show: clearly the way Juzo grew up meant that he wasn't allowed to just do/ enjoy things for himself and just copied the things that were expected from him as a "cool manly hitman"

But in this second life, this weird in between space he gets to just be, to enjoy things because they are enjoyable no matter what gender expectations are attached to it and you can tell it's already made him a)a better person b) so much happier

I just created a fandom tag on AO3

I just wrote and posted the very first fanfic for a new fandom on AO3

that’s a neat feeling

the fandom is Kill Blue, a fun and wholesome new Shonen Jump series that I really don’t want getting cancelled, wherein a middle-aged hitman gets de-aged and has to infiltrate a middle school. it’s refreshingly wholesome, both regarding the protagonist’s attitude towards school, and his developing dynamic with one of his female classmates. (it’s not creepy, you guys. it explicitly calls out the creepy potential of the situation and shuts it down at pretty much every turn. it’s depressing that I have to call that ‘refreshing’, but it sure is pleasant to read.)

Kill Blue Chapter 18

I've avoided talking about this series since April, but it's managed to make the cover of this week's magazine, so here we are. For some reason (coughcough Tadatoshi Fujimaki is Sakamoto-pilled) Juzo has started switching between his adult and child forms.

This series wishes it had the jarring commodification of the Underworld that Mission: Yozakura Family has. It does, however, have the concerning use of child soldiers that The Elusive Samurai has...

Every week I ask myself why I read this series...

Anyways, these assassin kids are a hypnotist and a constructed person, and it looks like we're getting a 2v2 match against Ogami and Tenma.

I'm still really iffy on how Noren is treated as a character, especially in contextualizing Ogami's relationship with her as a paternal one in order to avoid romantic implications, it's super objectifying.

it's stretching IC-ness a bit, but i love the idea of all the Fighter/Jock Girls being buddies. sometimes completely unwillingly (Maki). Sakura and Peko managing this pack of Hina, Akane, Tenko etc while wondering why Mukuro is giving their lunch table the Kubrick Stare from across the room is an image that heals me spiritually. they've also made Juzo an honorary member and he hates it. he doesn't even go here anymore

Without a single doubt, Sakura, and by a landslide. I believe there isn't anyone in the DR universe who could defeat her in a fight, even with a weapon. Give Mukuro a gun, and she still loses. Juzo would probably get tossed around like a leaf.
