Working on a paper about Lacey Games for a college class and I'm thinking so much about Rocio for real, I will absolutely go to bat for her

Dungeon meshi has wonderful and thought out world building but the inherent creator bias still shows through sometimes in small funny ways

#dungeon meshi #ep 1 #why are they eating with chopsticks when the island is mostly western in architecture/culture etc #hahaha #i always think its so funny even in like medieval isekais/webtoons #when everyone has european names #castles #dresses etc #but their school system is japanese or their meals etc #like the small stuff the author thinks is normal #calling the duke 'hyung' when there is absolutely no way that would happened at that time #its a bit endearing #i read a brothers grimm/fairy tale inspired manga #and the protag is a grimm brother who befriends hans christian andersen and subsequently calls him “an-chan”#western media has that a lot too #people eating with forks when they would use chopsticks #having meals with beef in them when its a terrain where cows wouldnt live and chicken or goat or fish would make more sense #eastern media aallllwaaysss including an age based honorifics system #western media often modeling religion along the abrahamic faiths #etc

I asked for some opinions on using “boy”#and folks seemed to agree it went well! While I recognize the English release of Legendia dropped honorifics #(and understandably in most if not all cases for that game) I'd like to retain as much as I can from the original intent #(and anything used in Rays) On the other hand I've done my very best to retain Moses' localized accent since he still has an accent in JP #and he's just as silly as you might remember him!

i was talking to kaily about how tired of sophomore boys i just was at the end of work today. like i was texting her last 15 minutes about how just ready to be out i was. i was in full

costume and everything.

i mentioned that one of the kids was a football player i scolded last week on friday while i was on hall duty to get back to class... and i was like. i don't know if i can stress this enough. do you know how annoying you have to be for me to speak to you on while i'm on HALL duty?

i was like "i don't even know if i've ever talked to kids on any hall duty ever. i thought i'd only ever say something if i saw them like dealing drugs or something"

and kaily was like "to you. dealing drugs to you"

yeah. basically if you're a high schooler and i see you in the hallway. i'm only gonna scold you if you're trying to deal drugs TO ME. or just being really annoying. don't you have a class to be in?

#tales from diana #the kids weren't being like 'bad' or misbehaved i had just had a day full of their banter you know?#my social battery w these kids is only so high #and i don't like. know them know them. so their little jokes and affection w each other has no effect on me #it doesn't endear me to them very often lol #i don't hate high schoolers as a class of people and i'm not like 'oh all teenagers are annoying' but when you work with 300 every day #they all blend in and all their jokes sound the same. is how i'd put it #i don't work in a close enough capacity with the vast majority of them to really understand them as individuals #i don't think low of them. but i'm just... they're in their environment and i'm not in mine. lol
