All-Purpose God, 2019.
Posting some old comics. This is vol 1 of a series of short comics I've been making in my spare time, under the umbrella "Phrasebook". They're each based on a phrase or word in Chinese that I've been thinking about. You can read vol 2 ("Dragon Whiskers)" here, and vol 3 ("Tailwind") here.

It's been a big week for Nicholas Galitzine and his pouty lips.
This historical seven-episode drama dropped.
And the trailer for the Amazon Prime adaptation of the novel THE IDEA OF YOU bowed.
In it, Galitzine plays a boybander a'la Harry Styles, hence these embarrassing promo pics.
You can follow the band on IG and they even have a song!

MINOR RWRB/MARY & GEORGE THOUGHT (Non-Spoiler)
I only recently caught the tailwind of some Twitter kerfluffle about mpreg in the RED WHITE AND ROYAL BLUE fandom so for everyone defending Henry being the one constantly getting knocked up - use this shot of Nicholas in MARY & GEORGE and be vindicated! He wears pregnancy well!
I love that the main conceit of the series is this heaux possesses such beauty that we have no choice but to weaponize it.

I want to highlight that whilst 911 rates relatively well, it is reaching the natural end of the life cycle of this kind of show (unless it makes drastic changes and shifts to a format that can support 20+ seasons). Yes, it is a streaming hit. The demo and viewership gain from streaming is impressive. But streaming is still a minority of the overall audience (though a majority of the demo audience).
And the live figures are actually troublingly low despite the lack of competition. 9-1-1 has a prime slot on Thursdays with only Georgie and Mandy as competition, and yet it was still only pulling above 0.3 on the demo. Even when it didn't have that competition it couldn't pull above a 0.4.
I think the signs are there that it would be possible for ABC to move on from the franchise, especially with LS shutting shop and the spinoff on shaky ground.
I want to unpack that last point so I will outline a few headwinds as I see them for getting the spinoff going:
1.) Doctor Odyssey's failure is a warning sign to me. ABC were no doubt expecting big things from the Ryan Murphy product given they skipped the traditional pilot plus 13 episode pick-up and instead ordered a full 18 episode season, then parked it behind 911 in the schedule. I think that was a big statement and the fact that Doctor Odyssey is not merely underperforming but likely only being propped up by 911 should be raising eyebrows.
2.) Related to the prior point, the 911 spinoff has noticeably not been given this benefit of the doubt. As far as I know, the spinoff pilot is scheduled to be filmed early next year (around March) so I think it's safe to say ABC are relying on the traditional process this time around. This might suggest they are skeptical about the value of the spinoff and are looking for a strong case to greenlight it, and hence making sure to vet things properly. I do not think ABC are willing or able to risk a high-budget series underperforming.
3.) And 911's spinoff will be high-budget. This is very much against the grain when networks are reportedly lowering the budgets on new series, likely due to declining ratings and the climbing costs of promoting a new series. This is all especially pertinent for 911, a famously expensive franchise which relies on prominent names to front the show. The only tailwind here is that ABC could advertise both 911 and the 911 spinoff at the same time, providing some synergy.
We could be looking at a situation similar to The Good Doctor, which saw both the flagship cancelled and The Good Lawyer shelved. ABC will likely be have the spinoff pilot in-hand by late March/early April whilst also having initial numbers for some of S8b. It seems logical to me that they will choose to make their decision at that point about whether to proceed, or cut their losses, shelve the spinoff and make S9 of the OG the final season.
#911 discourse#911 critical#911 negativity#I think it very unlikely to get cancelled this season#but obviously things could change#but I'm skeptical it can go past S9#I think it also worth noting that even if the spinoff gets ordered#there's a high chance it gets commissioned not as a companion for 911#but as a replacement either a year or two down the line#as they are very likely doing with The Rookie

exhibition of a veiled zephyr
-> act one: divulgence
venti x gn!reader
wc: 1.5k
summary: you never knew that your sweet bard boyfriend Venti had a life he hadn't told you about, let alone that he was an archon. and finding out like this, in the midst of what you can only call an out-of-body experience, is all the more disjointing.
warnings: hurt/comfort, canon-typical violence, archon war era venti, possible ooc
now tbh i looked into his character story after i had written most of this, but it never says he wasn't involved in the archon war after all of that so we're stickin with it LOL also, i was going to make the two scenes in this flow together... it was hard. i decided against it. KJHFSDKJF as the title suggests, there may be more to this series one day <3
Fire and an inky blackness encroach upon the corners of your vision until you are standing in a Teyvat that does not belong to you. Smoky clouds hang mephitic in the air, forcing you to scrunch your nose and hold your breath. You bring an arm to your mouth. When it doesn’t help, you press a little harder and take your first shaken step forwards.
In the distance, a figure that feels like home and looks anything but floats in the sky. Arrows loose and soar, pierce through a nameless, faceless victim.
A body falls. Silence follows.
You recognise him now. Though there are a few distinct scars missing from his shoulders and thighs, ones you had appreciated under cover of night like a secret you’d whisper to the stars. Deny it as you may wish, the visage of your lover is unmistakeable.
And then he spies you. For a second, you see familiarity within his eyes. It is quickly glazed over with a cold, piercing stare, cutting into your very soul.
A strong tailwind blows with every steady wingbeat that keeps his feet above the ground, far more powerful than the gentle breeze he tends to conjure for you. This wind leaves you blinking and bracing, angling your face away whilst desperately trying to keep your eyes upon him. The tips of his braided hair are ablaze with greenish-blue, suspended either side of his head like a secondary set of wings with the momentum of his descent. Similarly coloured particles of energy swirl around in the turbulent updraft that finally settles him down before you.
He is ethereal, haunting, and reminds you more now of an angel than ever. But there is one thing that rings so very clear as you look at this version of him.
This is not your Venti.
It hits you like a holy epiphany, a thousand truths finding root in your soul within the same breath and igniting your veins.
The man before you is Barbatos, in his most primal state of being. His old name lingers on your tongue with a foul aftertaste, stories of the god who had left his nation abandoned in the name of freedom, here in front of you as clear as day. In the form of the sweet, playful bard you had come to love.
An archon, he is resplendent and terrifying. Unrecognisable, if not for the bright turquoise eyes that glow fiercely as he meets your gaze. Your observation reaches across his torso, all the way to the tip of one of the brilliant white wings that stretches from his back, feathers stained with grime and ichor.
“This is no place for civilians,” he hisses dangerously, the sharp tip of an anemo-infused arrow pointed towards your heart. “If you are not an enemy, leave.”
Of course, he doesn’t recognise you. You haven’t met him yet.
And yet your pulse throbs against your neck and wrist, thrumming in your chest and wracking down your legs. Frozen to the spot, you can do no more than gape at Barbatos in stunned silence.
He steps closer, all the while still aiming that thin arrow straight through you. Cool metal hits your face as he tilts you to look at him straight-on. Unable to will yourself to move, you grimace and flinch as the tip grazes along your chin. A stranger locking eyes with a stranger, your breath hitches in your throat when he leans closer to scrutinise you.
“Which archon do you serve, mortal?”
Barbatos’ voice is soft like the one you recall, the one who would weave poetry betwixt the clouds, but there is a steeled reservedness in his tone, words clipped and calculated. In his eyes is a hurt that you’ve seen before- this time fresh, still bleeding, aching.
“You, of course,” you utter breathlessly. “I have followed you for years, and will do so until I can stand no longer.”
“Then return home,” he says. His bow withdraws, disappears in a flourish of pale green, and reappears secured tight across his back. “Now, before you are less fortunate with who you encounter out here.”
The ruins of a city stretch out around you in every direction as the dust settles and, as far as the eye can see, you are met with naught but corpses. A strong lingering note of rot and death grasps your throat as you inhale shakily, and it is enough to curl your stomach and send you into fits of coughs.
“My home isn’t here,” you confess breathily as the air returns to your lungs, pulse thundering in your ears, “and I don’t know how to get back.”
The sky of Mondstat is bright and the sun beats warm against your skin. An errant bird flies free overhead and your eyes follow its graceful arc through the clouds, until it disappears past the horizon.
Home.
It feels just as you left it, even down to that welcoming breeze that brushes past your cheeks and kisses you softly in greeting.
But Venti is nowhere to be found.
You walk to Windrise, to the base of the grand tree that protects the Statue of the Seven where you first met him. The figure carved into stone here feels more familiar than the man you’re looking for, those grand wings wrapped around his back and trailing down, sparking a similar unnerving chill to rush down your spine.
Lost in your own train of thought, you nearly miss the sound of a blustering breeze from behind you. Footsteps encroach on your solitude, take a brief pause, and retreat again as though the owner has turned tail to flee. You spin in place to face the perpetrator, meeting wide blue eyes that stare back upon a head half-turned.
“You,” you exhale in disbelief, “were about to run away from me?”
“Hehe, not at all!” Venti lies, arms opening wide to greet you as he completes his 360-rotation all the way back to face you once more and settles on both feet with a little bounce. “You just looked so deep in thought, I didn’t want to disturb you.”
It is strange to look at him right now, after what you had experienced mere hours prior. He looks so much more… domesticated than you had seen him, far more comfortable to be around than the intimidating figure who had had you at arrowpoint. His hair does not glow, though the tips remain bright as ever and soft even to look at, and the warm green of his clothes paints him in a far more human light than the all-white ensemble that had melded with his angelic wings and declared his archonhood for all to see.
The man before you now, with his pink lips pouting from the perplexity of your silence, is so much more obviously a civilian; the perfect persona of a drunken bard that he portrays so proficiently, than the seasoned warrior you had met.
Venti calls your name once, quietly, to break you out of your reverie. “You’re staring. I know you like me, but it’s a little scary when your eyes blank out like that.”
“I’m sorry,” you frown, shaking your head and taking a step forward. “I was just thinking about something.”
“You seem to be doing that a lot,” he comments, closing the gap between you and taking one of your hands into his. His thumb runs along your knuckles with a soothing warmth, a tender touch, the type of gentle comfort he always endeavours to provide you. Something about it now feels wrong. “Is it anything I can help with?”
A sigh, a hum of contemplation. “I want you to tell me more about yourself, Venti.”
“My sweet angel, you know everything there is to know!” he declares, squeezing your hand firmly. “To share more would be to give the very blood in my veins, and as much as I’d gladly do so, I’m sure it would be quite the sight.”
You search his bright teal irises for deception and come up empty, lost in how wide and pleading they are as they watch your expression in turn. Whilst that doesn’t mean he’s telling the truth- you’re sure he’s had enough time to practice getting good at lying over the centuries- it is at least enough to placate you until later notice.
“Okay,” you nod, finally turning over your hands to clasp his in turn and squeezing once, affirmedly.
It’s hard to miss the way that the corners of his lips falter. Relief, be it for that you believed in his candor or fell for his ruse. Either way, his demeanour shifts noticeably to a more comfortable repose. His arm comes up around your shoulder and the other hand cradles your left cheek as the right falls victim to a chaste kiss.
“Now,” Venti begins, chipper lilt returned to his tone, “shall we head to the tavern for the evening? Or perhaps we can collect a few bottles and have a picnic beneath the stars?”

Pokemon Card of the Day #3223: Dragonite (Expedition)
Dragonite was not a Pokemon that had any surprising use. It was all about helping other Pokemon Retreat. It just sat on the Bench and everything on its team could retreat for free. This was really cool, especially in any format that lacked the good Baby Pokemon as it let Pokemon that switched out when attacking to go to something else to absorb hits with no worries. The downside? Dragonite itself didn't get the benefit since it had to be on the Bench to use said Poke-Power, and that made it vulnerable to forced switches. It was also awful as an attacker, so you had to keep that in mind if trying to build with this.
100 HP was one of those typical Stage 2 numbers. It was very likely to take a hit most of the time, though it should be noted that if using this in E-on you did have a struggle against Blaziken decks due to Blaziken ex just sniping it off the Bench. There was no Weakness or Resistance to worry about here, and the Retreat Cost was 2. This was really awkward if you couldn't get 2 Dragonite into play, making Pokemon Reversal a potential way to just block its entire deck for a couple of turns. A Dragonite deck would not be playing switching cards due to everything else pivoting for free with it around, after all.
Tailwind was a Poke-Power that could be used once per turn. If it was on your Bench, you could reduce your Active Pokemon's Retreat Cost to 0. This was good for anything with a high Retreat Cost, but building in a Stage 2 line meant you'd probably be building around the concept since otherwise you'd probably be fine with things like Switch and Warp Point. Pokemon that could pivot while doing damage, like Donphan and Gengar, could go out to something bulky to absorb the incoming hit. Donphan was only available in Neo-On, which could just move to Focus Band Cleffa, meaning that the Gengar pairing was the likely move. This was okay in E-On but much more likely to succeed if just playing around with the E-series cards due to the lack of that truly awful match-up.
Dragon Tail had a horrible cost. 1 Lightning, 1 Water, and 1 Fighting Energy was extremely awkward to pay, only really being accessible in E-On with Double Rainbow Energy. The attack got you 2 coin flips, with 40 damage for each heads, so it wasn't even worth going for.
Dragonite had a clear role, and one that was nice: helping its team retreat easily. Most decks would still prioritize Trainers just because of the deck space needed to run a Dragonite line, but it still did its job if it wasn't hit by a forced switching card. Dragonite really only saw play in the unofficial e-card only format, where it was far more likely to build up a second Dragonite on the Bench safely and let Gengar switch out to bulky Pokemon over and over. It was at least usable, almost entirely in casual decks, in other formats, especially in ones where you didn't have a ton of Pokemon that could retreat for free.

am i the only one who always got hyped when they saw kieran being super edgy and competitive? like fuck yeah lil dude you're like the only person that gave me a run for my money in this game so far. i actually have to try against u and its fun as hell. if u manage to beat me i will smile serenely like a grizzled old ex-samurai whose pupil has finally landed a blow on them
(spoilers below the break)
they should have made his champion fight harder bro. like when he threw out that dragonite/politoed lead i got such a huge grin on my face bc i was like "fuck YES im gonna get tailwinded on and swept with 100% accurate hurricanes" but dragonite doesnt have tailwind even tho it has an empty move slot??? i think if they gave politoed a damp rock instead of a wacan berry, gave dnite tailwind, and swapped out pory-Z's thunderbolt for 100% accurate thunder this would have been by far the coolest fight in the series. we were so close to getting a fight against a whole-ass rain tailwind team but game freak are cowards. the incineroar inclusion was awesome tho

I don't write but I am interested in what you would recommend for writing about preparing for a flight in a light aircraft realistically. Even for drawing. While reading your blog I remembered some story or something describing a scene in the back seat of a small plane like a cessna 172 and I just couldn't imagine any of it well because i know that space is too dang tight.
Also, just out of curiosity
What are some examples of planes that you can instruct in? Are we talkin cessna or piper or beechcraft or?
Hi!
I instruct in the Piper PA-28 series of aircraft, and a basic flight plan is typically done in the few hours preceding a flight, or the night before in the case of an early-morning flight.
Step one is to determine where you want to go, and if the weather will even allow for it to happen. Assuming you're in the USA, aviationweather.gov and 1800wxbrief.com are the two most useful websites for flight planning. This step is a "big picture" glance at the route of flight, and this is when you actually draw your lines on a map to plan out your route.
Once the weather looks okay and your route is planned, the next step is to designate a set of "checkpoints" along your route of flight, be they landmarks on the ground for VFR (visual) flight, or navigation waypoints for IFR (instrument) flight. The purpose of these is not only to remember what to look for, but to help figure out your ETA with some math you'll be doing later in the planning process.
All of these waypoints are written down in a document called a nav log, which is essentially a table describing your route, the waypoints along them, estimated speeds, estimated times, etc. Once all of your waypoints are picked out, you tally up the distances between them (in nautical miles), and make sure that number matches the total distance.
Now, with your route and waypoints, it's time to take a closer look at the weather. Since we already know we'll be clear of any nasty weather, now is the time to focus on one important thing: what the wind is doing.
Using the websites above, we can get a forecast of the wind speed and direction at our desired altitude, which is chosen based on what provides the best tailwind (or least-bad headwind). Our altitude, assuming a VFR flight, follows the hemispherical rule - eastbound flights fly at an odd-thousand altitude plus 500, and westbound flights fly at an even-thousand altitude plus 500. Add the wind speed/direction, as well as the desired altitude, to the nav log.
Now, here's the part where we do the math, and for this, we'll use a special calculator called an E6B. It's a slide rule whose design has been almost unchanged since the Second World War, and it can do unit conversions, course corrections, fuel burn calculations, and much more. What we want right now is the wind correction function - given a desired course, a wind speed, and a wind direction, it can calculate a ground speed (faster with a tailwind, slower with a headwind), as well as a wind correction angle, which is a heading to keep the airplane from being blown off course by the wind.
We need to do a wind calculation for each of our waypoints, adding the wind correction and ground speed to our nav log.
Now that we have our estimated ground speeds at each waypoint, we calculate our estimated time enroute (ETE) between each waypoint, again using the E6B to do so and adding the results to the nav log. Add up the ETEs between each waypoint to get an ETE for the entire route.
After that's done, we'll calculate how much fuel we need. Consult the airplane's manual for a fuel burn measured in gallons per hour (GPH), which is 9.5 GPH for the PA-28. Do the math with the E6B, and you now have your cruising fuel.
Next, climb fuel - for this one, you need to consult the airplane's manual, and follow the directions on a graph to get this number.
Finally, reserve fuel - for a VFR flight during the day, you need enough fuel to cruise to your destination, and then fly at a normal cruising speed thereafter for 30 minutes.
For a VFR flight at night, or an IFR flight, you need 45 extra minutes of fuel, plus any fuel needed to fly to an alternate airport in the case of IFR.
Those are the basic elements of a flight plan, but there's more that pilots are required to familiarize themselves with:
- NOTAMS (notices to air missions; typically concerns airport closures or non-standard procedures)
- Weather information (it's always good to do one more look at the weather, and also obtain a weather briefing for your route of flight)
- Known delays (ground stops, busy airspace, etc)
- Runway lengths at airports of intended use
- Alternative airports to land at if your destination is no longer suitable
- Fuel requirements
- Takeoff and landing performance numbers (can your airplane take off and land within the length of the shortest runway you plan on using?)
- Any other information pertinent to the flight

Danny has lot more pokemons!: Bisharp, Mimikyu, all Hisui starter, Gengar, Froslass, husuian Lilligant & more! If you great can you help me name for them ;w;???
Things to watch out for in Poke AU:
This AU is based on the timeline game play not anime. There's no Ash in this AU sorry guys
AU settings in Unova!
I decided that the pokemon owned here (unless they are from outside Unova or gifted/thrown away by their trainers sad i know) in AU are only pokemon in Unova's national pokedex (BW2)
no Danny can't go on Pokemon adventures officially yet because the protagonist Unova is technically the oldest of all the protagonists in all main timeline games (15-16 years old!) So Danny officially becomes a trainer when he's 15/16 years old :')
AU's main plot:
Very simple 11 12 with series but with pokemon! :]
Plot Hisui:
Let's just say Clockwork wanted Danny to take a vacation from his daily life as a super hero, so here Danny Hisui… Disguised as Danko joined the Galaxy Expedition Team, explored Hisui, researched Hisuian Zorua and Zoroark and met people and new pokemon!
Danny learned a lot about making pokeballs and other equipment. He was taught by Volo and Cyllene very often praised him & She also liked the performance as a member who was very active. He studied more closely about Zoroark & Zorua's abilities so that They could avoid conflicts between humans and Pokemon. in a few moments Danny & Volo were nicknamed "crime boy" by people because sometimes they made lot trouble, on how many occasions Danny found that Volo & Cyllene had a fight and stupidly thought they were kissing, for Danny Volo was a 'big brother' figure because of his nature who is confident and smart sometimes reminds him of Jazz sometimes but Volo is more of an asshole than Jazz and Volo gave him the Zoroark Mask on week 3 at Hisui as a reward for his promotion in Galaxy Expedition Team.
When Danny was going back to his timeline, he said goodbye to everyone and… Should he leave the pokemon he caught here? Clockwork says that he can keep and bring them to his timeline! What a relief! Danny comes back and he realizes he was only gone for 3 days… But he actually spent 3 months at hisui and realized he lost his Zoroark mask! Damn- he can't go back to Clockwork just to take that trivial thing… At the same time Volo who wants to return Danny's zoroark mask only finds snowy land with Danny's footprints.
Meeting Volo's (again):
Danny was exploring the ghost zone to make a map, he didn't invite Sam or Tucker because they were busy so well he was alone exploring the Ghost Zone until suddenly his ship's engine broke down and dropped him to the bottom of the Ghost Zone… When he realized Danny found himself in a place that had very different aura from Ghost zone… The place is full of mirrors and just then Danny is greeted by Giratina who seems quite impressed about Danny species, then Giratina and Danny actively talk a lot they have a lot in common! And Giratina took him somewhere and Danny saw someone familiar… Volo.
Danny & Volo were surprised to see each other… And at the end, after the preamble, Volo told him that he had wanted to destroy the world with Giratina but failed and he was cursed to spend his eternal cursed life, he angry with consuming hatred and obsession with Arcues to survive in the deepest part of the ghost zone… The distorted world, he only interacts with his Pokemon who are also eternally cursed and also Giratina… Sometimes Volo misses a lot of people from his past mass but he realizes he will never meet them again because they are most likely dead sometimes he laments the mask he made for Danny to relieve his boredom… Then he returns Danny's mask to Danny… "I thought I would never return this to you Danko but I'm lucky to be able to return it to you! I will never forget my pather in crime hahahaha!"
In short: Volo Danny escapes from the world of distortion → Volo applies for a job at Fenton Work → Volo becomes the best employee and gets Maddie & Jack's sympathy → VOLO IS ADOPT BY THE FENTON!!!
I forgot to mention that Volo grew Fenton Works business very fast and became the best employee ever!
What next for Poke AU?:
I want add Shauntal in this AU… She a Ghost type elite four… and a writer… fits this au perfectly— & you can ask more if you sent me ask to my ask box pls 👉👈
Oh yeah... Give me your pokemon x dp fanfic i want read it.

Chris asks Santa for a new toy. Softboy asks Santa for a new friend.
Just wanted to take a break from the recent Chrisville Theater Society production to make a little Christmas post! Happy holidays to all!
Note: To those who don’t remember, Figaro is the main character of the Tailwind Tales franchise, which is a beloved children’s series about a rabbit-lion-hybrid beast who farts a lot. We haven’t seen that much of him or his series during this blog’s comics, but it’s at least clear that Softboy is one of the many people who thinks Figaro is super cool and would love to have him in Chrisville.

The Flag We Serve Under: Chapter 2
Yandere Azur Lane
Masterlist
<< Chapter 1
thank you all for your interest and patience in this little series! I hope you enjoy!
The loud blare of your phone ringing nearly gave you a heart attack as it shocked you straight back into reality from what was an unusually restful sleep. Hands automatically shooting out in a blind attempt to grab at the offending object - the same way you did every morning - though instead of finding yourself in the warm embrace of your comfortable bed, you tumbled out of your chair with a loud thud, a whirlwind of disturbed papers flying up from your desk and falling gracefully to the ground. “H-huh? What?” The warm wooden surfaces and neat shelves of books and files that surrounded you looked foreign to groggy eyes; where were you? Who were you?
For a moment, the world seemed restless, uneasy, before the next blare of your phone shook you from your trance-like state, and the memories came flooding back. Yes - you remembered now. The previous day's shenanigans at Naval HQ, sailing with Alabama across the deep blue open ocean for the first time in forever, watching the sun set below the horizon from the port window right above your desk; it seemed like you had once more managed to walk away from another counter with your commanding officer, though you had to admit you were definitely worse for the wear this time.
Your phone protested again, the third insistent ring nudging you into finally picking up, the reluctance all the more clear when you noted it was that asshat of an officer you reported to whose name was plastered across your screen. “Hello?”
There was no greeting from the barking voice on the other end, instead just more orders, more work, handed down from the top and relayed through the small black phone. As expected. You automatically tuned most of the harsh words out as you usually do, focusing on the actual actions that you needed to take; yet as the voice kept coming, the sleepiness instantly drained from your mind, your eyebrows furrowing more and more with every word conveyed. None of this was good news, not at all. “Yes, sir.” Your voice was clear and firm even as your thoughts whirled. More girls being shifted under your command? The Sakura Empire asking to deal directly with you?
What on earth was going on?
“Make sure you don’t mess this up,” Your superior warned, but you could tell this was far more dire situation than any superficial paperwork disaster - the Sakura Empire had broken off from Azur Lane to pursue Siren technology by themselves after all, and neither you nor Naval HQ could tell what they wanted with you. One wrong step could bring the infighting to a whole new level. All you could do was bite your tongue - this wasn’t the right time nor the right person to ask the multitude of questions rushing through your thoughts.
Yet there was one that you couldn’t resist asking, that no matter how much you tried to hold it down, it still managed to slip out almost unconsciously. “But sir, why now?” Why transfer more to your fleet when it was clear that the top dogs at HQ had not been particularly happy with your performance? Why did the Sakura Empire want to speak with you now? Why you?
Your commanding officer went silent for a heartbeat, then two, with just the sound of his heavy breathing being picked up and transmitted; from a lack of a better answer or from the loaded question, you didn’t know. But before you could get your answer, your ears picked up the sound of footsteps - numerous sets, if you had to guess - thundering down the deck and growing louder as they approached your makeshift office. The thick bomb-proof steel door flew open with a bang, a toss of white hair swept back in her tailwind as Alabama rushed into the room, usually sleepy crimson eyes frantically scanning the small room, landing on you where you were still seated on the ground. “Commander! Are you okay? What happened?”
There was an instant blast of fresh salty air to your face that rushed through the open door. It was a shame that all the man on the other side of the ocean muttered was that he would ‘get you the information you needed’ before hanging up in a jiffy. Even if he was your superior and wasn’t afraid to treat you like dirt, you knew that most of the members of the staff at Naval HQ feared having to deal directly with the shipgirls, especially with Alabama in particular; the youngest of the Dakota-class sisters was notorious for her mood swings when it came to you after all. Tucking your work phone back into the pocket of your skirt, you gratefully accepted Alabama’s help to stand, straightening out your uniform once you were back on your own two feet right as Helena stepped cautiously through the doorway. “I’m fine. Thank you, Alabama, Helena. Just some morning grogginess.”
Instead of settling your jumpy subordinates, it only seemed to arouse more suspicion in your tanned friend, red eyes narrowing at you. “Grogginess?” She repeated skeptically, her hand, twitching as if it was trying to resist grabbing you, instead disappearing inside her coat. “Like pregnancy grogginess?”
“No, no. Just awoken at the wrong time I suppose.” You patted your skirt where your phone was. “Duty calls.” You made a mental note to your future self to never find out how those under your charge would react if you actually got pregnant. Or if you ever had a boyfriend. Absolutely not.
Helena bent over to gingerly retrieve your cap, lightly dusting it off before handing it back to you. “Was it him?” She asked quietly, her blue hair still shimmering from salt crystals still clinging to individual strands - remnants of her time spent skating across the ocean. If you recall the schedule correctly, the Brooklyn-class cruiser must have rushed over right as her patrol ended.
“Unfortunately. On the bright side, I do have some updates. Could you gather everyone on the bridge in an hour please, Alabama?”
Said girl gave a curt nod, and you smiled in thanks. “Well in that case, I shall excuse myself back to my quarters.” But the crinkle of paper from the ground caught your attention once more, and you grimaced. You had completely forgotten about those; seems like your steaming shower and fresh uniform would have to wait a little longer.
“I wonder who is joining our fleet?” Aylwin wondered out loud as she lifted another spoonful of rice and vegetables to her mouth. Despite not having to eat food like you did, you had always insisted that the girls stick to a regular schedule and take a break during lunch time; whether they wanted to have something to munch on was something you left up to their decision, but you had always made food available for them.
“Maybe we’ll meet some from other factions?” Baltimore suggested, which got a few nods from the eight shipgirls gathered around the table. “The Royal Navy and Dragon Empery are part of the Azur Lane too.”
The mess hall aboard Alabama’s manifested ship was as worn as the rest of the ship, metal surfaces decorated with a generous litter of surface scratches from being thoroughly scrubbed clean countless numbers of times. Several pictures - of land and home and the vast ocean - decorated the walls, frames nailed firmly to keep them from moving as the ship cut through calm and rough waves alike. Several plates of food lined the center of the cloth-covered bench, a small luxury she knew that was allowed to them only while under your command; Alabama had heard enough of the horror stories from others suffering under less competent Commanders.
“I’m hoping it's the Grey Ghost,” Ranger leaned over the table, her volume dropping like she was . “Went on a mission with her previously before I was redeployed here, but never had a chance to sit and chat with her. She’s always so busy.”
But Alabama remained quiet, staring down at her cup of undrunk and rapidly cooling coffee and allowing the chatter to flow around and over her; she knew you better than the back of her own hand, and it was obvious that whatever that shithead of a commanding officer said to you, it wasn’t just to announce the expansion of your fleet.
Just thirty minutes prior, the eight of them hadn’t been seated casually around a dining table, instead having gathered on the bridge as per instructed. “Thank you all for gathering.” Standing at the head of the bridge, the endless sea glittered under the afternoon sun far below you outside the window, stretching out past the horizon like an enormous sequin blanket. “There’s been some news with regards to our fleet. Because of the increasing Siren threat in our sector and hence the expanding workload, word from Naval HQ is that we will have some new ships that will be joining our fleet.” You announced.
Excited whispers were instantly abound among the rest, but the tanned battleship’s slightly narrowed eyes were fixed on you and that soft smile you wore. It was just as it sounded: a mask that you put on in front of them. She could see it as clear as neon lights in the middle of the night on the empty ocean surface, even if you were trying your best to hide in the shadows that the sunlight cast. You always tried to physically hide when you had something to hide from there, from her; it was just the way you were after all.
“Do we know who’s joining?” Helena queried softly amidst the chaos, yet you still caught it regardless, smiling back at the blue-haired girl.
“No information has been given on that, but I’ll give an update once Naval HQ comes back with more.”
Then you opened your mouth, as if to say more, only to snap it shut, your eyebrows furrowing - all quietly observed by Alabama. In a split second, it was gone, and taking a deep breath to compose yourself, she watched as your lips quirked up once more, your gaze lifting to meet theirs once more. The Commander mask was back on. “That’s all for now. You’re dismissed, please go have your break.”
You adjusted your cap, turning away to continue to pour over a map as your small fleet filed out, the thick steel door closing with a light thud behind them.
And that was all. Were fresh faces really important enough to worth rudely waking you from your sleep and a personal call from that monkey brain of a commanding officer? Sure, with an expanding fleet meant new things to worry about, new people to keep at a distance from you, but… There was something else - more important, more urgent, more secretive - that you didn’t want to tell them, or that you couldn’t tell them about, and Alabama wasn’t having it. What if it was a threat to your safety? What if it got between you and her? What if it threatened her getting oathed to you? What if -
“Helloooo. Earth to Alabama.”
The white-haired battleship blinked, looking up from her cup, seven pairs of varied colored eyes looking curiously back at her. “...You alright?” Indianapolis piped up, blue and yellow heterochromatic eyes glancing her way. What if there was another person in the picture?
Her reply was curt, as it always was. “Yes, I’m fine.” Red eyes glanced out the nearest round window, and the conversation was over. But the others were used to the battleship’s sullen attitude especially when it came to you, and the chatter resumed as if it didn’t stop. She would speak when she was ready.
An ocean away, yellow eyes looked longingly out across the same blue seas, the horizon hidden behind the shutters of the blinds that hung in front of her pavilion, though the twitch of a brown fox ear returned her attention back to the two girls prostrated in front of her. “Raise your heads, Akagi, Kaga. Please go ahead with your report.”
“We have…made contact with Naval Headquarters, Nagato-sama, and conveyed our requests. They have agreed that only she will be sent for the negotiations.”
Commander…Nagato couldn’t hide the excited swish of her ears at the thought of seeing you - of meeting you - again after so many years apart, and it was obvious that Akagi had similar sentiments even as Kaga remained oblivious: the younger fox sister had never met you before, let alone had the chance to serve under your command. Were you still the same person she remembered? Or had you changed? Had they already ripped and damaged that soft heart of yours? “And?”
The white-haired aircraft carrier spoke up as the older of the two sisters fell silent, crystal blue eyes respectfully raising to land on her. “But they wouldn’t let her come without an escort present throughout. It was something they insisted on.”
Not all good news then it seems. “Who is the escort?” Nagato’s voice, though childlike, carried with it the might and authority of the Sakura Empire, strong and decisive.
“It has not yet been decided.”
A moment of silence as the petite black-haired battleship mulled over the new information, small fists gripping the silky red fabric of her dress. The gold ornaments that decorated her hair glittered in the little sunlight that filtered through. Should they insist again on you coming alone? Or perhaps they should compromise on a neutral-grounds meeting so that you would come alone? It was too early to make the decision right now, not with the gaps that they still had. “Any movement from the Iron Blood?”
“No. At least not in the seas around us.”
Nagato nodded. “Then we shall wait until Naval Headquarters returns with the escort details before we make our decision.”
“Understood, Nagato-sama.”
“Dismissed.”
Watching Akagi and Kaga’s silhouettes disappear down the steps, the leaves rustled softly in the light afternoon breeze; another peaceful afternoon. After all, in the grand scheme of things, what was a few more days to wait? She sighed, elegantly lifting the steaming cup of green tea to her lips and taking a sip. Still, she couldn’t quite find enough patience at the thought of returning to you.
It took another week for the small fleet with you onboard to steam back to base; despite the shipgirls being able to travel far greater distances in much shorter times by skating across the surface of the ocean, their manifested ships were much slower in comparison. You spend most of the time locked away in your office, reading and re-reading through reports and training exercises and documents - there were still a great many things you didn’t know, and you were determined to find out, to hell if Naval HQ allowed it or not. It was your girls’ lives on the line every time they sailed out to meet the Sirens after all, and you would not let them go face first into the unknown. The few times you left were to catch a breath of fresh air on the deck of Alabama’s ship and for a quick rest in your quarters; and before you realized, your small fleet was back home, pulling into a familiar port.
But all was not as you had left it, with the once-sparse docks now occupied with a mix of known and unknown ships of all types and builds; destroyers, cruisers, battleships and aircraft carriers that spanned the various nations making up the Azur Lane. You had to admit that the percentage of ships present that you didn’t know was far greater than the ones you did, and it blew your mind that headquarters would send so many in one go. Weren’t they the ones that constantly complained of your lack of aptitude for the job?
As Alabama’s battleship came to a groaning halt, there was nothing more you could do but to steel your resolve. It didn’t matter if you could or could not do this, you simply had to. Pulling and straightening your skirt down and adjusting your hat in the mirror again, you took a deep breath, wrenching open your office door and stepping out into the gentle morning sun.

Another randomly selected Pokémon:
Fletchinder
Starting with the name, it's ヒノヤコマ, Hinoyakoma, a combination of 火の粉(ひのこ,hinoko), sparks, and 駒鳥(こまどり,komadori), the name of the japanese robin it seems inspired from.
As for its abilities, this time both of them have a Japanese name, even if they are both pretty literal translations.
Flame Body is called 炎の体(ほのおのからだ,honoo no karada), while Gale Wings is called 疾風の翼(はやてのつばさ,hayate no tsubasa).
Let's look at a Pokedex entry, there's a lot of cool examples of "different Dex entries say the same thing in slightly different ways" for this Pokémon!
火の粉を クチバシから 飛ばして 草むらを 焦がし 驚いて 飛び出した 獲物を 捕まえる。
This sentence is a good example of how I approach and try to break down a bit more elaborate sentence if I don't get it immediately. I first look at verb and を particle.
獲物を捕まえる
獲物(えもの,emono) "prey" is a word we are going to see many, MANY times in Pokédex descriptions.
So this sentence is simply telling us "it catches prey". Everything else that comes before is a description on how this happens.
火の粉を クチバシから 飛ばして
飛ばす(とばす,tobasu) "To let fly/To launch/Spit out"
嘴(くちばし,kuchibashi) "Beak"
"It spits out sparks from his beak (...and does the following action)"
草むらを 焦がし 驚いて 飛び出した 獲物を 捕まえる。
焦がす(こがす,kogasu) "To burn"
"It burns grassy fields , then catches surprised prey that jumps out"
So the whole Dex entry is saying something along the lines of:
"It spits out sparks from his beak and burns grass fields to catch the prey that jumps out in surprise"
Other dex entries retell the same thing reorganizing the sentences, so we can kind of use them as confirmation that we have understood the sentence (and practice the vocabulary)
草むらに 火の粉を まき散らす。
This sentence is pretty much the same thing just with a slightly different verb.
まき散らす(まきちらす,makichirasu) "To scatter, to spread"
Interesting moves it can learn:
追い風(おいかぜ,oikaze) Tailwind
It translates pretty directly, and it also has the same meaning of "favourable conditions" that the word or similar have in many other languages.
燕返し(つばめがえし,Tsubamegaeshi) Aerial Ace
It literally translates to "Swallow return" and it's based on a sword technique with a similar name, which is in turn inspired by "the movements of a swallow's tail in flight". It was developed by Sasaki Kojirō, who was a heavily respected (and feared) swordsman in feudal Japan. His technique was apparently blinding fast, and involved a fierce downward cut followed immediately by one upwards.
He is regarded as one of "History's greatest losers", as he was killed in a legendary duel by samurai Miyamoto Musashi, who described him as "the strongest opponent he had ever faced".
These two guys appear a lot in various Japanese media. They appear as central characters in the historical manga Vagabond...
And get referenced everywhere, from One Piece, to the Dark Souls series that references Kojirō's legendary sword, to Fate(then again , name someone who is not in Fate) to Pokémon itself, again.
Which characters are named after them, you ask?
Yep.

I know it's a bit strong, but I have an OC with a quirk called "Air Force" that grants them full control over the air around them. They can solidify it to make barriers or walk on it, create powerful gusts of wind, use it to lift large objects, create tailwinds to increase their speed, increase/decrease its temperature, remove it from an area, etc. However, they aren't immune to their own air effects and due to air being invisible.
It would take some focus to remember some of what they've done/did. They also use their hands to guide their attacks, so restrictions to their hands would neutralize them. I know it's extremely powerful, but I wanted it to be for a character on a similar level of power as Bakugo, Todoroki, or Yaoyorozu, as it was for an equivalent type character. Is the power a bit too much? Does it need more weaknesses/drawbacks?
This really can't work. This is basically every single air Quirk in the series put into one power, especially "Whirlwind". "Whirlwind" itself can only do about half of this and that was already on the level of those characters you mentioned. That's not even mentioning removing the air, which is such an insane ability that's only an application of this. I get wanting to make something powerful, but if you want to do that, I suggest you go with another idea or massively tune down this idea, focusing on only one of the applications

1, 7, and 25 with a paradox pokemon of your choice (with the fandom question i was kinda thinking in terms of competitive meta or draft league in case that was confusing)
IT'S IRON JUGULIS TIME BAYBEEEEE!!!!!!!
1. Why do you like or dislike this character?
This is because I used her in a draft league back around March, and am currently using her again! I initially made that choice purely for competitive reasons (strong hurricanes on a rain team and really fast tailwind), but as the season went on I started to get really attached to the pokemon! It also helps a bit that I gained a bit of an appreciation for hydreigon after using one in series 1 where it was really good (and of course being GTIpilled)
7. What's something the fandom does when it comes to this character that you like?
Very regrettably, Iron Jugulis doesn't really have much of a place in the metagame right now 😔. Fast tailwind and hurricane in rain doesn't matter much when tornadus has priority tailwind and bleakwind storm, as well as hurricane if you really want it. But I remember it won a regional back in series 2, and the final battle was really funny because Jugulis's trainer used gholdengo to trick a choice specs onto an indeedee that was about to use trick room, and switched in gothitelle so it couldn't escape. From there gholdengo and jugulis took out all of indeedee's partners as she was stuck there doing nothing but turn trick room on and off, and as long as they were next to gothitelle there was no counterplay!
25. What was your first impression of this character? How about now?
Like I said, my attachment to Jugulis came from a draft league in March, so on launch I didn't actually think that much about her. Hell, I wasn't even that attached to paradox pokemon as a category yet. At the time she was just kind of "one of the robot pokemon," which is where I think she stayed for most people. Not me though, I've become sooooooo jugulispilled

Map of Milo
The mainland, and where most of the series takes place. It is a small continent in the process of splitting over millions of years. With two mountain ranges on either side, sandwiched between them is a large plain with scattered forests and a river basin down the middle. It has a desert to the northwest that had only recently been charted by humans, and another desert to the southeast, raked by vicious sandstorms. Humans and dwarves have lived on this land for as long as history can remember, with elves recently joining them as they regularly migrate from Merith.
We’ll be seeing some of these towns and landmarks as the adventure goes on, but for now, why not learn a little more about them? (Under a read more cuz it’s a bit lengthy)
Towns and Cities
Humans States of Astral
Westhill
- Small farming village where Yugo Nora was raised in
Edgefront
- Port town on the southwestern peninsula that buys crops from Westhill and exports them to other port towns
Stone Yard
- Industrial town and the leading place for innovation and technological development
Lough
- Small village that specializes in growing grapes. Part of a three town union with Tailwind and Yellow City
Tailwind
- Town that specializes in creating wine from the grapes traded to them from Lough
Yellow City

Astral
- Capital city of the human states. A bustling town rich with culture and literature
Loremaster Castle
- Bastion at the edge of the desert where scholars train and study to become Lorekeepers
Basinmoor
- Large town in the center of Milo within the river basin. Trades goods from Astral to Ridgehaven
Salamander Bay
- Port city specializing in seafaring, though heavily populated by pirates and bootleggers
Logging Town
- Lumber town near the Monster Paradise
Mineral Town
- Village in the Iron Mountains specializing in mining
Elven Empire of Merith

The Great Cougar Clan
- Nomadic clan of big cat-like monsters that travel throughout the Plains of Mankind
Hiddenhaven
- A village in a forest by the sea protected by mountains that has remained almost entirely untouched by man
Monster Paradise
- A beautiful forest belonging to sprite monsters
Landmarks
Forests
Western Forest
- Medium sized forest on the southwest peninsula that separates the Fertile Plains. The elven towns of Mistwall and Clearing Town reside in this forest, as well as the unofficial kingdom of Rodentia. It is home to many monsters, leaving humans to typically steer clear of the forest whenever they can help it
The Secret Valley
- A coastal valley forest protected by the Diverged Range convinces most travelers to avoid them, making it a virtually untouched haven for monsters and wildlife. It is also known as Hiddenhaven
Southern Jungle
- A large, warm, semi-tropical forest on the south peninsula populated mostly by elf colonies that settle on the mainland from the island of Merith
Monster Paradise
- The largest forest on the eastern half of Milo, only recently discovered by humans. The trees in these woods are hardy and strong, making for great building material. It is home to a rare class of monsters known as sprites
Plains
Fertile Plains
- Small plains split by the Western Forest with great soil for farming
Plains of Mankind
- The largest prairie and defining feature of Milo, it stretches from the Diverged Range to the eastern coastline, and is split in the middle by a river basin
Mountains
Diverged Range
- The western mountain range that separates the two plains, and is split in two itself on the northern end
Iron Mountains
- Homeland of the dwarves, it is a super volcano that is rich in raw materials. It is the only place where dwarven cities reside
Deserts
White Desert
- Northwestern desert comprised of light colored sands. It is home to Dunesettlers, who live in an oasis within the sands
Red Desert
- Southeastern desert raked with sandstorms. It has barely been explored, and lacking in records, though rumors of ancient temples and treasures tempt adventurers into the dark desert, though most usually meet an untimely end
Islands
Merith
- Southern, tropical island and home of the elves covered almost entirely with jungles. Due to its small size, the growing population of elves often migrate to mainland Milo to prevent overcrowding
Lando
- A small mountain jutting out of the northern sea to form an island. It is shrouded in mystery, as it was where the now extinct dragons and dragon people lived. Rough seas deter most sailors, but rumors of ancient temples and vast treasure still tempt those seeking fortune.
