every time i say tumblr staff (and tumblr itself let's be real) made social media worse by never punishing harassment, allowing people to get comfortable pushing cancel and callout culture so they could harass and dehumanize anyone (especially minorities) they want without ever having to worry about consequences, an attitude they brought with them to other websites like tiktok and twitter after the 2018 porn ban....

This is what I'm talking about. tumblr staff doesn't give a shit if you're stalked and harassed, but if you're a trans woman posting selfies? instant ban.

tumblr staff has NEVER done anything to protect its users, but now they're actively participating in doing the harm.

i think the thing i'm most disappointed about with riordanverse fandom now versus like 2014 is not only has the fandom not gotten any less racist or queerphobic or ableist (in fact in some regards its gotten worse!) but now it's just boring too. like there's no fandom infrastructure anymore - the community these days is almost entirely source material-driven - and you deviate from canon even slightly people get weird about it. whatever happened to the post-HoO fanon boom. the fandom needs to get weirder again. and self-sufficient. and less offensive.

#pjo #riordanverse #deep and weary sigh. we need to bring back the lower ecosystem rings of fandom #prop up some good ol' community spaces especially since a lot of old ones have totally petered out #< mostly referring to stuff like ye olde ship headcanons blogs #heck even doing a quick search for ''pjo headcanons'' the most recent blog was last active in 2017 and the other two in 2013 #there's an rp community floating around but im keeping tabs on the riordanverse askblog community and its a bit dire #there's been like what - *one?* maybe two major fandom aus that have floated around recently?#one moreso being one person's au that most people dont actually do much with #and the other more being like a half-hearted general concept that got kicked around for a couple of weeks #i am legitimately tempted to just go wild and start planning out and setting up like a hub for trying to revitalize the community #like the community EXISTS. it's THERE. it ebbs and flows! but now it only really does much when there's new official content #and it rarely exists outside of that #and given we are technically in a fandom boom right now with the show now is like. the perfect opportunity to set up fandom infrastructure #so that new fans have a place to go and integrate with the community and start pumping new life back into things #also i think the fandom becoming more self-sufficient could help with the offensive part since Rick sure isnt helping

amab and afab, if they were used as shorthand for the actual full phrases that they signify, with emphasis on the "assigned" part, and an understanding that they are enforcements of normative (ie, dyadic and cisgender and binary) sex, would be like. really useful. but people took the terms and started using them as shorthand FOR normative sex instead of the ENFORCEMENT OF normative sex. so when other trans people (almost always dyadic trans people) ask for your agab they are almost always asking for your Original Genital Situation. your starting point, so to say. and the reason FOR asking is also almost always bc they are trying to also enforce a certain kind of normativity within queer spaces (which is stupid bc being queer is inherently non-normative but here we are). like, you cant be a lesbian if you're ftm, bc you ARE m, so if you ARE a lesbian, then that means you're lying about some aspect of your identity. does that make sense?

it is always always always incredibly.... i do not trust dyadic trans people that use cagab terms, even moreso than i do not trust dyadic trans people that just use agab terms. agab is also coopted intersex language, but the "coercive" part of cagab SPECIFICALLY refers to medical "intervention" of intersex characteristics, such as "corrective" surgeries and hrt. i am deeply fucking suspicious of any dyadic trans person that uses those terms exactly the same as described above, even moreso if they do so bc "all gender is coercive".

like. yeah. that's true. but you use these terms to erase and overtake intersex discussions on the medical abuse of intersex infants. and i cant help but wonder why you would feel the need to do that.

#iirc it was also common to tirf ideology and the baeddel group #< notoriously intersexist group #to say nothing of any other tirf beliefs #both of these misuses of agab and cagab come from the same source #but it is . deeply disconcerting with cagab #bc its like. that is such a lesser known term in the greater dyadic trans community #you would HAVE to have known what it originally meant #either YOU are misusing it INTENTIONALLY #or someone TAUGHT you to misuse it INTENTIONALLY #people that are cruel and bigoted always want to believe theyre good people #so its hard to convince them when they are being bigoted #esp as marginalized people #and especially as a marginalized people that is particularly affected by the same enforcement of normative sex #the more i learned about this the more i learned abt intersexism in trans spaces #the more i notice it. its so fucking pervasive #and like u should care abt intersexism on its own but its like #no surprise that the ppl misusing cagab terms usually are transandrophobic (as the discourse du jour) and exorsexist #these things go together and reinforce each other #anyways it sucks bc ill see a BEAUTIFULLY written analysis of transmisogyny but so often there will be #like one thing. two things maybe.#and ill go to ops blog search a few keywords and lo and behold #they are transphobic. they are intersexist. they are racist. they are aphobic.#all forms of exclusionist politic in the queer community just lead into each other ad infinitum #nauseating... and #i will read the theory of people who disgust me or who are fundamentally wrong abt other ppls experiences bc i think they still have #valuable things to say but i am SO FUCKING TIRED of running into the same goddamn problem EVERY fucking time #i think its just the posts that get circulated the most that are like that #bc i think the majority of people dont actively seek out and learn abt new queer theory as it rolls in #or other ppls experiences in general #so they dont learnt to recognize the red flags or even realize why its bad in the first place

Advice; About Pages vs Rules Pages

About Pages

An about page is where you describe information about your muse. It allows potential writing partners to see who they are and decide if they're interested in writing with them. An about page should ideally consist of the following:

Basic bio information (name, age, etc)

A short physical description (this is useful even if you have a fc image because you can describe how they may differ from the image!)

A short paragraph describing what they're like as a person

Any relevant history information

Of course, the more information the better, so you could write more than this if you wanted to! If you have a really long about page, having a short, condensed paragraph summary at the top of the page is a good idea.

An about page is also a good place to put any AUs you may have for your muse (or you could create a separate verses page!). For AU information, you should describe how your muse is different from their main verse.

You need an about page if you are writing an OC. Your OC is an original character, so you need to give potential writing partners that information so they can see what your OC is like. If your muse is canon divergent or AU based, you should also have an about page because people will want to know how your muse differs from canon before deciding to write with you.

If your muse is a canon character, you should still consider having an about page. This is because you're likely to have headcanons that differ from canon, so writing them down prevents confusion later on. It also allows people who aren't familiar with the character to learn about them so they can write with you too - this is especially important if you write for a small fandom!

If you're a new blog, writing about pages also demonstrates your writing ability and style, which can help you get your first interactions!

Rules Pages

A rules page is where you write the rules for writing with you. Common rules are:

No godmodding (controlling your writing partner's character)

Age restrictions

The length of replies you want to write

Any topics you don't want to write

Some people also include a brief description of themselves here. It is a good idea to include whether you are under 18, 18+ or 21+ as many people have age restrictions in their rules.

Making a rules page is important because it allows you to set restrictions that potential writing partners can check before interacting with you. It also allows potential writing partners to check that you are compatible with them.

It's important to read a partner's rule page before interacting with them. It's surprisingly easy to tell if somebody hasn't read your rules, and people are unlikely to want to write with somebody who hasn't read them.
