im making a silly powerpoint telling the whole VC story to a friend who wants to know it, but has no patience to read, and im looking for this funny drawing i remember someone made, where its marius telling lestat the story of those whose must be kept, and its so funny bc of the triple inception; so its the burned elder telling marius, marius telling lestat and lestat telling us and someone drew that but i cant find it anywhere, do you know which drawing im talking about? does anyone else maybe?
What a great thing you're doing for your friend! Maybe you'll share this powerpoint with us, too?

Hey, Tumblr, I need a little help here?
So, my best friend has been acting a little weird lately. Like, his sleep schedule has gotten really strange (stranger than normal 😅), and I haven't seen him without sunglasses on in a week?
His diet has changed, too, like he used to always be snacking whenever I'd call him, but now he doesn't eat anything that I can see.
He even cancelled our tickets to ComicCon!! I've been waiting to meet up with him for years, and now he's just bailed on me?!? I'm mad, but honestly more worried than anything....

IWTV 2022 INSP - QotD Pt1a: Wake Up
When I opened my eyes I had an idea. It came full blown to me, and it immediately obsessed me so that I was scarcely conscious of the thirst I felt, of the sting in my veins. "Vanity, " I whispered. But it had an alluring beauty to it, the idea. No, forget about it. Marius said to stay away from the sanctuary, and besides he will be back at midnight and then you can present the idea to him. And he can...what? Sadly shake his head...? I felt sorrowful and miserable. And then there was the idea. Not to do it in his presence, but silently and secretly so that I did not feel foolish, to go all alone. No. Don't do it. After all, it won't do any good. Nothing will happen when you do it. But if that's the case, why not do it? Why not do it now?.... I knew that hundreds of others before me must have had such ideas. And how well he had described the pride he felt when he thought he could rouse them. That he might make them move. No. I just want to do it, even if nothing happens, which is exactly how it will go. I just want to go down there alone and do it.... And I stopped just inside the chapel, and I looked at their faces.... ....And in the manner of all statues or painted figures who stare directly forward, they appeared to be looking at me. I was confused. If they were not Osiris and Isis, who were they meant to be? Of what old truth were they the symbols, and why the imperative in that old phrase. Those Who Must Be Kept....

But what better place to keep a hidden lair from Lestat's illiterate arse than behind a secret bookcase, amirite! XD

Hi! I haven't read the iwtv books so could you explain what you mean by Lestat keeping Louis and Claudia as mortal as possible? And it's something that Marius advised? I wouldn't mind any spoilers!
Have a nice day!
Hey!
So to expand on that a bit:
After Lestat was turned against his will and after he encountered the Children of Darkness and Armand he tries to find Marius, Armand's maker (and a true ancient, them calling Armand ancient is very funny to me tbh^^) to find some (more) answers.
Ultimately he does manage to rouse Marius' interest, and Marius raises him from a dirt nap and takes him to the island where he lives and cares for "Those Who Must Be Kept". (We know that also happened in the show in some kind of manner, because Lestat refers to TWMBK in ep7.)
Marius tells Lestat his life story, introduces him to Akasha and Enkil.
And he gives him advice (from "The Vampire Lestat"):
"If you mean to survive, you must live out one complete lifetime as soon as you can. To forestall it may be to lose everything, to despair and to go into the earth again, never to rise. Or worse. . . " [...] "Then do as I advise. And understand this also. In a real way, eternity is merely the living of one human lifetime after another. Of course, there may be long periods of retreat; times of slumber or of merely watching. But again and again we plunge into the stream, and we swim as long as we can, until time or tragedy brings us down as they will do mortals. " [...] "Exactly, make them in love. And make certain they have had some lifetime before you make them; and never never make one as young as Armand. That is the worst crime I have ever committed against my own kind, the taking of the young boy child Armand. "
But he also gives him a warning:
"You know why not. I can't have you or anyone else know the location of Those Who Must Be Kept. And that brings us now to something very important: the promises I must have from you. " "Anything, " I said. "But what could you possibly want that I could give? " "Simply this. You must never tell others the things that I have told you. Never tell of Those Who Must Be Kept. Never tell the legends of the old gods. Never tell others that you have seen me. " I nodded gravely. I had expected this, but I knew without even thinking that this might prove very hard indeed. "If you tell even one part, " he said, "another will follow, and with every telling of the secret of Those Who Must Be Kept you increase the danger of their discovery. " "Yes, " I said. "But the legends, our origins . . . What about those children that I make? Can't I tell them- " "No. As I told you, tell part and you will end up telling all. Besides, if these fledglings are children of the Christian god, if they are poisoned as Nicolas was with the Christian notion of Original Sin and guilt, they will only be maddened and disappointed by these old tales. It will all be a horror to them that they cannot accept. Accidents, pagan gods they don't believe in, customs they cannot understand. One has to be ready for this knowledge, meager as it may be. Rather listen hard to their questions and tell them what you must to make them contented. And if you find you cannot lie to them, don't tell them anything at all. Try to make them strong as godless men today are strong. But mark my words, the old legends never. Those are mine and mine alone to tell. " "What will you do to me if I tell them? " I asked. This startled him. He lost his composure for almost a full second, and then he laughed. "You are the damnedest creature, Lestat, " he murmured. "The point is I can do anything I like to you if you tell. Surely you know that. I could crush you underfoot the way Akasha crushed the Elder. I could set you ablaze with the power of my mind. But I don't want to utter such threats. I want you to come back to me. But I will not have these secrets known. I will not have a band of immortals descend upon me again as they did in Venice. I will not be known to our kind. You must never-deliberately or accidentally-send anyone searching for Those Who Must Be Kept or for Marius. You will never utter my name to others. " "I understand, " I said.
Lestat goes to NOLA after and tries to follow Marius' advice - and heed the warning.
That is the why.
The how...
Lestat never shows them the full extent of his powers. He lives with them in a house, as a family, not as a coven. He tries not to be the "coven master" for long stretches of time (going so far as to leave his home for example). He hides the more monstrous aspects of their existence, as well as the cruel implementations/rituals other covens have. Since Louis is very much also "poisoned by the notion of the Christian God" he does not tell them much either, probably half for fear of Marius and half for the gut feeling that the knowledge he has would actually not help much.
That is what I mean that he keeps them as mortal as possible.
They live with mortals, in their midst, masquerading as mortals, having hobbies, and interests, going to theaters, cinema etc. He makes his fledglings from and through love, and tries to live a "life" with them.
As good as he possibly can.
(The downside is, of course, that Louis and Claudia unfortunately have no concept of what awaits them with the other vampires. Which is exactly why Lestat did not want them to go to... Paris.)

IWTV S2 Ep7 Musings - Loustat: The Trial (Spoilers)
Imma split my Loustat musings into 3 parts, cuz there's A LOT to unpack. So I'll do the Ep3/4 & Ep5 revisits in the next posts; this is just general/initial Louis & Lestat stuff I wanted to respond to.
They beat the dog snot outta Louis, omg. They nearly snapped his neck! Louis was barely conscious, ofc his memory's spotty.
I LOVE how they're emphasizing the physicality of the Maker-Fledgling bond, first w/ Lou & Madz, now w/ Les. It's ofc all wrapped up in how much Loustat loves e/o, but its also their blood connection thru Amel. (I wonder how Louis Merrick'ing himself in Ep5 affects his connection to Amel if his heart didn't stop, cuz Armand stopped him from burning too much?)
And I love what Jacob said in the Insider, afterwards.
Fear that Lestat's come to exact revenge; excitement (a frisson of both negative & positive emotions, excited to see Les just cuz of the tension of having not seen him in so long, but also having all his nerves & senses tingling cuz of the tense anticipation & not knowing what to expect--hence: fear); fury cuz this whole mess could've been avoided if Les had told them WHY European vampires should be avoided at all costs; and relief cuz Les's' alive, his husband's ok.
But this time Lou KNOWS he's the real deal, cuz he can FEEL it--"it wasn't NOT his hand." And Dream!Stat jumpscare in Dubai, well well well; I thought Lou'd stopped seeing him on that Parisian bench? 👀
Here we effing go, whatever this French bish has to say better be good 🍿🍿🍿
I HATE HIM YOUR HONOR 🤣 Omfg take ONE thing seriously! Not the Roland-Garros, STFU! XD Lestat going off script got the coven like WTF?!
OML 🍿🍿🍿
Well that's not helpful at all--WHICH ONE!?
Les was asleep for the whole 100 years b4 he went to NOLA--but we KNOW this can't be true, cuz Les met Marius after he left Paris❗ SAM (the vamp) has been mouthing the words to this whole script, so I wonder if that's just what Les was TOLD to say, OR! It's what HE told THE COVEN, so they wouldn't know about TWMBK❗❗
NOT LES DOING A PIROUETTE INTO THE EARTH STAHP OMG 😭
THIS GAY QUEEN CAN'T HELP HIMSELF, I CANNOT
Awoke in 1908 & disembarked in humidified daughter of Paris, NOLA--but Les told Lou he was headed for Saint Louis, Missouri. 👀
"And who did you meet there?" DANG this is TENSE--Loustat finally making eye contact for the first time, Les having to see his husband all beat up & sad; as Claudia languishes in the background, as usual.
Not Louis with the cigar 😭
"The ACCUSED," LOL, Santiago had to catch himself--stay dehumanizing the violent evil Black man whydontcha; we see you. And Lestat had to feed him his own lines after derailing everyone with that homophobic soldier's evisceration.
Omg this sounds like every court case b4 they throw the book at a Black man. And the bored unaffected way the white audience just rolls their eyes & shakes their heads & smokes--they DGAF about Lou; they've already decided he ain't ish--A STONING.
LOUIS FACE. This is EXACTLY how folk in the fandom talk about Lou--and it came back with a vengeance during all that Loumand Maitre/Arun crap, as y'all were QUICK to jump on Lou being an evil pimp, even though your fave Daniel literally said that was just kinky roleplay Armand didn't take seriously when ish got REAL.
I thought y'all were just bartering for the "last bouquet of lilies"!?
Oh great, the coven's making Louis look like a perv predator. 🤦♀️ And the visual centering of Lou's dastardly mind-control waves like a halo over sweet innocent victim Lestat's blonde head, I CANNOT.
Omfg Louis face, SAME! If this crocodile-crying liar don't take his To Kill A Mockingbird, Central Park Five lookin arse off that stage! 🤬
Omfg Lestat I'm finna kill you myself. Omg this nonsense is too much; I know Lou, speak up, YES! But also, STFU, Les is actually tryna save your life by tearing your reputation to shreds. 😬🤦♀️
I loooove this effect when the coven uses the Mind Gift on them. They effed him up so bad his left eye started hemorrhaging. 😭
Armand don't you look away for an INSTANT, don't you even BLINK! You could've prevented this, EFF ALL Y'ALL in this nasty AF Theatre!
This gaslighting is hitting way too close to the way IRL court cases go when the innocent get the book thrown at them for crimes they didn't commit.
This is so painful to watch, but Sam Reid you better werk; the way he was yelling those lines had me shook, oml.
Les knows he's effed up, but what can he do? His eyes are going red; he's gonna cry. (His contacts look different, I thought they said they were gonna stick with purple eyed Les?) "I offered it to him in the church on the altar: My companionship." And Lou nodding along, cuz that was their wedding! 😭💔
I was wondering how these frames would be used. It's about the Ep3 race riots and vampire loneliness, the night Louis left & Claudia was made. But I love the implications, cuz how could humans know ANYTHING about hows vampires feel--which is SO important when they start lying about everything else that went down with how Claudia was made and how it would affect her as a "defective" vamp.
Even the VAMPIRES don't know how other vampires feel, and the capacity they have for enduring--Armand said it over & over to Louis in Ep3 and Madeleine in Ep6. Lestat came closest in S1 when he commented on Claudia's eternally 14-yr old metabolism & needing to eat more than an normal vamp, but beyond that none of them had a effing clue what Claudia was going through. They don't know REAL loneliness, even with her diaries telling them what she thought, not HOW SHE FELT.
(And I'm reminded of what I said here about Gabrielle telling Lestat what her loneliness felt like. I think "vampire loneliness" is different for every vampire; which is precisely why Gab (and Claudia) was able to walk away from her Maker/son & live alone; while Nicky & Louis went crazy.)
Lestat crying blood tears, daaaaang 😥
Kill this dude (but I stan a Loustat ally, LOLOL).
Imma stop here, cuz I've run out of Tumblr's stupid 30-pics per post, and the Ep3/4 revisit that "took all the pieces of Louis life, defiled them, bent them into a Lestat-shaped effigy" is IMO the JUICIEST part, with the most new meat to chew on.

So Eric went and dropped a major spoiler because of course he did, lol!
I could tell from TCA 24 that this would probably happen with him at some point. Poor Assad was like, "Okay dear, stop talking now!" Real Devil's Minion vibe, lol!
Anyway, I have a thought about the spoiler which I'll put under a spoiler cut.
So, given the Justin Kirk rumor from a week or two ago -- that he's playing Raglan James -- one of the institutions is definitely the Talamasca.
But the second institution? I think it might actually be Those Who Must Be Kept. Because aside from Lestat's Court (which from what I know comes way later, basically in the final book), there are no other "major institutions" in the world of books except for the Talamasca. The only other thing I can think of that could be called an "institution" is Those Who Must Be Kept.
And TWMBK was name-dropped in the final episode of Season 1. So . . .

"we will revisit the events of e5 along with lestat's murder" followed by moscovitch immediately saying “But I want to be careful to say that Louis will never be not believable as a victim." goes thru the grapevine & becomes “the last 15 minutes of episode 5 season 1 will be retconned FOR SURE” somehow
daniel as an observer to armand & louis’s current set up similar to how the audience is, and how armand from the past has to be merged with armand from the present to make some sense of why armand and louis r still together in both interviews [a divergence from the books] and how their dynamic is distinct from lestat and louis becomes devil’s minion DEFINITELY happened in 1973 and 2022 somehow
sam reid saying “cool twist thats not in the books" becomes plot twist” and the showrunners oppressing poor sam whos the guardian saint of the ghost of anne rice like marius with twmbk on some shit somehow like.
i used to think it was mean to say but yo its a serious comprehension problem frfr

Can someone who knows the Vampire Chronicles explain this moment for me real quick? Who's Argerich? I get the impression that when he goes vacant and distant for a second, he's searching for her voice, so I'm guessing she's a vampire. Is she one of the keepers of TWMBK?

That Lestat was sleeping underground outside Paris, and not in Cairo, but still knows about TWMBK, means it's likely he ran into Marius outside Paris 👀

Overdue TQOTD post...
I finished the book back in April LOL but just never got the urge to write about it. It took me an excruciatingly long time to finish, and that was because the writing was very repetitive imo. AR has the ability to make a vampire origin story so so so so so boring. Which is crazy, because The Story of the Twins is interesting and Maharet and Mekare are interesting characters, but the writing I found pretty bland. Which, again, is crazy because the writing in the Akasha and Lestat chapters?? Fire! So I know AR can do it lol but unfortunately none of it really hit when it came to the Twins and a lot of other chapters. Those parts read a lot like the dreadful Marius chapter/section in TVL and that shit nearly bored me to tears (insane bc that's when you finally find out about TWMBK).
Under the cut I get into more spoiler-y stuff about the last two chapters, including some (not so) subtle racism in the writing + things I actually did like about the book (bc there were some!!).
----It's been a while so I don't fully understand my notes but this is what I managed to make of them----
So, last two chapters, we finally get the showdown between Akasha and the rest of the vampires, and really they just talk and try to reason with each other. Here are some of Akasha's reasons for why humans need vampires to intervene in their affairs.
"Millions have been exterminated by one small European nation on the whim of a madman", "Entire cities were melted into oblivion by bombs", "The screams of the hungry are deafening, yet unheard by the rich who cavort in technological citadels", "the idiot foolishness upon which the complacency of the rich has always been based"
I singled these quotes out because it shows that her issue is not just with men, but with the rich and powerful. And her solution, of course, is to kill all men except 1 in 100 and kill all male babies born except 1 in 100. I'm upset that there was nothing behind Akasha's motivations when it came to the Twins other than wanting power and control, and her true motivations in this case are also gaining power and control over the women that she would eventually rule over rather than actually caring about the things that she listed to Marius & Co. Regardless, that doesn't make what Akasha is saying untrue. She's right, obviously, these problems exist! But the vampires also bring up another great point which is that: humans are aware of these problems (are literally the victims of these problems), and are revolting! They are rising up against the rich and powerful. Those humans do not deserve to die.
Marius tells her: "But it is the outcry against these horrors which is the light I speak of."
And then shortly after he hits me with the: "For the Western world, not to resist would be unthinkable." And maybe I'm reading too much into it, but coupled with previous instances of weird quotes about the East, this reads to me as yet another casual statement of non-Western countries being hopeless or lost causes. Like, "of course you were able to mass kill in the East, Akasha! They just roll over and take whatever horrific thing is committed against them! But the West won't have it!" That's how it reads to me.
[Note: The vampires' problem with violent resistance in general is strange, considering they are literally vampires who kill to survive, but whatever. They keep saying violence is bad and I'm like don't you "violence" every day?]
Anyway. Another insane quote:
This is said by Lestat, in reaction to Khayman putting on the equivalent of a fake tan to look more human (Khayman is Egyptian and I think(!) was described as having dark skin at some point):
"Sometimes, he covered himself with a darkening pigment- burnt sienna mixed with a little scented oil. It seemed a crime to do so, to mar the beauty." ???????????? Insanely racist thing to think say Lestat/Anne.
Alright so overall, was an insanely long read, definitely my least favorite book out of the 3 I've read, and it has put me off reading any more even though I really want to... but what I did like was:
Jesse Reeves
Claudia haunting NOLA house
AKASHASTAT, those chapters were golden
Devil's Minion chapter
That's all I can remember of the good. Will watch QOTD movie soon. Soon.
(also crying at my last post ab this book being me making a wildly incorrect prediction thinking it was so obvious, i am so bad at predicting things lol)

marius: oh you must never ever tell anyone of my existence or Those Who Must Be Kept or i will end you in the most painful way imaginable ^_^
lestat: okay <3
*several centuries later*
lestat, typing away on his laptop: and then marius took me to an island where he kept Those Who Must Be Kept and told me the entire history of vampires and how he came to know it and then he told me to never speak of it ever to another soul mortal or immortal and shipped me off to new orleans and i was so very sad to leave him but he insisted and then he and TWMBK moved away to an undisclosed location :(
#the irony was not lost on me. and i presume it wasnt lost on lestat either. like mmmh its delicious#i mean like sure the whole book might get him killed but this is a moment when u suddenly remember thats the case. delicious meta narrative#piksla.txt#vampire chronicles#<- i think ill tag talk abt the books w this since the iwtv tag is mostly abt the show#and ik its probably annoying to the people who havent read the manga i mean novel

i've been thinking a lot about the common statement that louis is the most "human" of the vampires, and from the perspective of someone who has watched the show and read the two first books, so far for show louis it feels something like this:
in the books, it seems that anne relates a lot the humanity of a vampire with certain good traits like empathy, a hesitance to kill and everything, and i think this is where many people (including lestat even, considering the "interview with the vampire" section in "the vampire lestat") sees louis as very human, after all. and i’d actually say he is indeed that, because he does display a lot of human traits, they’re just not the expected ones, especially on the show.
i believe he has the moral struggles, which are very human-like, but a lot of his humanity actually shows itself in his low moments: his emotional dependency, his self-loathing, his repression, his occasional penchant for pretentiousness as a response to his self-loathing and his pettiness.
and in that sense, yeah, he is very human, one of the most human vampires after all because he hasn’t “overcame” humanity. for instance, i’d say in a way so far, marius has been a less human vampire because, while he keeps relations with others, the marius we’ve seen in "the vampire lestat" is a vampire who is like “whatever” to most things and has moved on to other concerns, vampiric concerns related mainly to TWMBK and he was en route to become the "continuous being that moved past and had continuous awareness of everything".
likewise, gabrielle is another example of a vampire who has moved on so hard from everything when she became one that her desire eventually was legit to become one with nature and reject all other contact. lestat is mainly her link with any sort of beings she actually cares about, and even so, it is a very unique relationship, to say the least, because it is devoid of human conventions from her side.
so, vampires can still display “human” traits in the sense that well, all of us in the animal kingdom overall are able to feel, so they are capable of love, anger, fear, etc. but it manifests for certain vampires in a different, maybe less, maybe more complex manner than humans and these traits in louis do manifest in a manner very akin to humans, as complex as we do still.
ultimately, to me it seems truly that it’s really how a vampire wishes to be an active participant of life, and the ensuing negative feelings that comes with this moral struggle that determines their humanity, more than merely looking at it from a "[vampire] is so kind <3" angle.

Something something about the sequence of "Marius de Romanus, Venitian contemporary of Tintoretto's", "The Groan" and "I serve a god" in the very same dialogue exchange + Real Rashid + Marius burning Eudoxia's acolyte Rashid + Eudoxia wanting to take TWMBK for herself + the way Children of the Millennia worshipped Akasha + Teskhamen being part of Akasha's original cult, the founder of the Talamasca and Marius' maker + the Talamasca finding Marius' painting + these paintings hanging in Dubai
I sound schizophreinc but I swear I'm not. I feel like I'm onto something that I can't fully grasp yet but something like the show merging the concept of Marius and the Talamasca together somehow??? I don't know I need to watch S2 right now😭😭😭
Alright *cracks knuckles* :)
So I am (not sure if you know but probably) firmly in the team "Marius is somewhere around and TWMBK are in the basement. And Lestat is probably there in his coma as well.".
For me (myself and I) all the hints point to that.
The painting, the comment re the prime minister, the groan, Fareed, Armand's little comment re serving a god. If the groan is Armand being annoyed or TWMBK will be something that will be interesting to see, but...
I really do not think you schizophrenic :)))
Marius has ties to the Talamasca (Raymond Galant), not only through his maker (though that is indeed a rather strong tie) but also through his contacts to it through the ages.
I absolutely believe that some of his painting will play a rather important role still in the show(s), especially since the set design emphasizes their meaning so much.
So yes. Marius' painting(s) in Dubai. I would bet anything that there are (at least a few) more in the basement. I would bet a lot that there is more than furniture in the basement, too. (In fact I think @cbrownjc might be right on the track in their fic installment, but that just as a note, this aligns to 99% with what I expect as well^^).
It's just the setup of it all. It carries meaning.
Like, Armand wouldn't hang that painting if some things haven't happened. And, as much as he loves/hates/wants Lestat... would he say Lestat is a god? Then again, him being sun-proof (and Louis not) puts us in such an interesting time frame in the books.... and that little easter-egg/hint with the "Book of Hours", too... because remember where that was mentioned?? Right, in Memnoch. By DAVID. David, who implies that they, aka the Talamasca, were tracking said Book of Hours... which had been lost in Berlin in the Second World War. (Btw, I will forever and for all time adore them if Louis just happens to lose some luggage with that darn book on his and Claudia's travels. Seriously. Please.)
Fareed and Seth... and Gregory. And Teskhamen. And Raymond. Hesketh. The Talamasca. Gregory's pharmaceutical empire and Fareed's research. (Which could easily produce special medicine for Daniel). Seth, Akasha's son. The paintings in the living room depicting "mother and daughter"... and "twins".
It's all connected.
And I mean.... knowing the last books... it's not really a far stretch that Marius is involved with the Talamasca. Leads them even, maybe :))))
The show is building up the lore in a quite incredible way, imho. I just hope they do not lose sight of all the threads, because this... if it unfolds over the next seasons as I suspect it will??? ... will be breathtaking.

Fire & Sunlight: AMC vs Books on Vampire Powers
"if lestat's blood and louis' blood are the same, and lestat drank from akasha before meeting louis, and therefore cannot be burned, why louis can? because he was willing in that scene in the seventies? or just because blood does not transfer that way?"
I just saw this great question posted by @notfeelingthyaster, and I've been wanting to rant about this for awhile, cuz AMC is very inconsistent with Anne RIce lore wrt vampire powers.
This line is valid...kinda, cuz fear IS the mind-killer, and vampires who give up on life & stop fighting DO have a tendency to just wither away and expire. But Imma still call him out: As of S2, Lestat can 100% be burned--he was bragging/showing off/exaggerating/calling Loumand's bluff.
Magnus was old AF, and had powerful blood in him--his bloodline is descended from Rhoshamandes (the Big Bad of the final Prince Lestat trilogy), one of the First Brood made directly by Akasha. But Magnus himself never drank from Akasha, so he's not sun/fireproof, and having his blood is nothing to brag about. Lestat is strong for his age cuz Magnus was old/strong--Les got the preorder bonus--but that's about it.
What determines vampires being sun/fireproof is HOW MUCH of Akasha's blood they have in them.
And even then, the First Brood can still burn up because of the sun, as we see in the books during the Great Burnings, when TWMBK was left out in the sun. SHE got a tan, but every vampire on the planet went up in flames. Only the strongest/oldest survived, but they were still EFFED UP for centuries. Which is why Marius was created--to get TWMBK to safety.
Marius drank occasionally from Akasha, the most out of anyone for 2000 years. And even HE burned when the Children of Satan/Darkness jumped him & kidnapped Armand.
Marius was effed up for decades/centuries, even with the blood Akasha let him drink to quicken his healing. Fire is no joke for vampires (which is why the Fire Gift is like hax mode).
Lestat drank Akasha's blood ONCE before he met Louis (& Enkil nearly killed him for it). That gave him a significant boost in powers, way too much for a fledgling not even 100 years old. But he wasn't sun/fireproof yet--which is why Pyromaniac du Lac was able to do what he does best and set Lestat on fire in the book/movie:
Even on the show, where Lestat is 100 years older/stronger, he's STILL not sun/fireproof, as we see in 1x2:
Unless AMC's changed the rules & this is part of Lestat's ACT/ruse, deliberately hiding his REAL powers from Louis 👀 👀):
Cuz that whole scene in 1x2 with Louis even walking OUTSIDE should NOT be a thing for AR vamps, who can't be out in daytime PERIOD. (Only OOOOLD AF vamps like TWMBK, the Twins Mekare & Maharet, Khayman, Nebamun, etc. can get tans.) But for AMC, they just apparently can't be in DIRECT sunlight. So AMC's vamps are ALL daywalkers, technically.
But whatever--back to Lestat: IF the rules haven't changed, and Lestat was being HONEST in 1x2, hiding from the sun under his cloak, then no, he's not sun/fireproof yet in S1/S2.
What he says in the S3 promo/teaser is BS; "but then again, they might not." (No, they TOTALLY WILL, boy, stop, lol. XD )
He's showing off, and still calling vampires' bluff; cuz he's going on tour to distract everyone from killing Mr. I Own the Night Louis. Les wants vampires to be afraid of him, and THINK he's unkillable/unstoppable, and that not even the sun/fire can get rid of him. But that's just not true--YET. Les's an unreliable narrator par excellence.
BEFORE the tour, he CAN be set on fire. Les doesn't become truly sun/fireproof until Qotd, AFTER Akasha wakes up & stops his tour & they become lovers/partners-in-crime, & he feeds on her regularly.
In TotBT, he realizes just how much more powerful he is, when he tries to commit suicide but just gets a (painful) tan.
So what about Louis (& Claudia)?
Louis & Claudia are stronger than they should be for their ages (so is Lestat), because Les drank Akasha's blood ONCE before he met them.
But Lou's weak cuz he starves himself & doesn't sustain his powers; and Claudia's weak cuz she's "built like a bird" in a too-small body with too-little blood to even make her own fledglings.
AMC!Louis's been given a significant boost in power with the Fire Gift, which he should NOT have yet, but AMC!Les is 100+ years older, and apparently he's already gone to ground (his dates during the Trial are obvs a LIE--he didn't sleep for all 100+ years, cuz he met Marius & AKASHA, but he doesn't want the coven to know about TWMBK--again: Les is an unreliable narrator, too). In the books, going to ground in a torpor also gives vamps power upgrades when they wake up., which would explain why Les, Lou & Claud are stronger than their book counterparts.
But beyond the Fire Gift, Louis isn't sun/fireproof, cuz HE didn't drink from Akasha, and he's just way too young, and way too underfed.
Likewise, Armand being fire/sunproof ticks me off to no end cuz it effs up his character plot in MtD/TVA; so I have no idea wtf AMC's doing with him, cuz he never even knew Akasha EXISTED.
514 years is nowhere NEAR old enough for a vampire to be ok walking in the sun--Marius was 2000 years old and still burned.
TL;DR: It's a numbers game; but the math ain't mathin, AMC. Vamps being fire/sunproof isn't not about AGE, it's about ACCESS--to AKASHA.
