I can't remember where I first saw this, but this is an absolutely INSANE article about how they repair the cables miles down at the bottom of the ocean. Spoiler, it's the same technique as when they first started doing it in the 1850s and involves just lowering a huge, dangerous hook for HOURS until it hits the seabed, then dragging it around until they find it!

Gives a pretty good sense of how ridiculous adding unnecessary reliance on internet is (see: fridges and 'smart' door locks that need a wifi connection) especially in a world with increasingly unstable climate and weather. And also, it's a good portrait of giant companies' constant push for profit expansion - instead of maintaining what we have - making everything terrible.

Basically there is a very small number of increasingly old ships - and a secretive industry of people working tirelessly on them - maintaining the physical global infrastructure of the internet.

Tech companies present this very clean slick view of what they do - in reality, there's an enormous amount of not only global exploitation and danger behind that, but generally just incredibly messy systems keeping it all going.

I think I've talked about Fernando's before on here but. I really miss when he had the black fireproofs bcs it just made hom feel so much more intimidating/larger-than-life to me. The way he prowled around the paddock, just very big cat to me! Though I once told my mom this and she said, "more like a bobcat, he's so small." 😭

Seb is a fennec fox because...idk why it just suits him. He is both kitty and puppy, so I think foxes in general suit him bcs they're described as, "just cat software running on dog hardware." I literally only found out a couple of days ago 😭 I kept getting messages from people saying they saw my art on tiktok/pinterest/somewhere and have been trying to find me for ages, and it was so incredibly disheartening. I cannot believe that season. truly just. there was not a single episode I didn't sit down to without a genuine conviction that *this* would be the episode where they spit all over everything I loved about the show. I braced constantly throughout the episodes as they kept setting themselves up for Very Stupid story choices only to pull the rug and go "HAHA surprise, idiot!!! We've given you exactly what you wanted <3". until the final episode which was NOT what I wanted and also exponentially better storytelling and character development than any of the ideal scenarios I'd constructed.

something deeply meta about it all. truly a chaos season for the chaos god, where the most chaotic, unexpected, transformative thing they can do is to be good.

Spent the day processing my love for this season only to have your message sum my thoughts and feelings up perfectly, thank you so very much for sending it 💖

Same as you, not for a second did I go in truly expecting anything from s2. Owen and Mobius have my heart, always will, so primarily the show was a vehicle to provide whatever crumbs of his scenes and chemistry with Tom I could get and with the start of every episode I braced for the moment that would get ruined in some way, only to be continually hit with everything I've ever wanted in a show or pairing right up until the finale. Which, while not what I would've chosen, was beautifully crafted and an almost Shakespearean tragic romance that will haunt me for the rest of my days and is still infinitely better than the nightmare scenarios I'd been floating around in my mind so at least there's that and it's impossible not to be thankful for eps 1-5 for giving content anyone could dream of and more 😅

Besides the obvious ending, I'm mostly crushed our Loki and Mobius didn't get a proper goodbye but honestly believe Loki decided to seek out s1 Mobius instead knowing s2 Mobius loved him too much to ever let his sacrifice happen and it would've been too much to bear, so having made his mind up already he at least tried to visit a version most likely to validate his choice. Just wish the Mobius now waiting until the end of time had at least a similar opportunity, but I'm just thankful he didn't lose his memories and could make his own decision that his faith in Loki is what's carried him before and will continue to do so now.

The flip of their characterization from order or chaos is exactly what has me convinced Lokius will reunite because how can they not with such an open ended future?? Even in separation they revolve around each other and they're the only ones left wanting. Mobius and his life are in ruins with nothing but the passage of time and possibility of some spent with Loki ahead while Loki's surely going to find a way to meet halfway when the choice of order has not only made him potentially the most powerful being in existence but one who spends eternity looking at the only person who ever saw him back.

The notes are so funny bc here are the 'downsides of being an only child' that are literally not unique to being an only child and more of a parenting/situational thing really:

- "It's lonely!/Siblings are built-in friends!" One of my brothers played with me out of a sense of necessity because we were not allowed to be with other kids and he deeply resented me for that, which made for a bad relationship and me being extremely alone all the time anyway. I'd rather have skipped the hatred (on his part) and heart break (on mine) and gone directly to playing alone. I have literally never had an intimate conversation with any of my 3 brothers (except literally One time with one of them) but I've had countless of horrid fights (with me or witnessed). Hell is other people, etc.

- "All the attention is suffocating!" I was monitored 24/7 and pretty much never left alone, up to a point where my bathroom time was also monitored. My brother actively and voluntarily participated in the monitoring at some points.

- "You get unconditional support as an adult!" I've been in a lot of trouble since I was 17 and they've never helped, not materially or emotionally.

-"You have more people to build happy memories with!" My brother got married 3 days before I was back in the country (he set the date way after I had bought my plane tickets and also he actively chose to hide it from me) and still blames me for being upset because "it was a ceremony for closed loved ones only anyway" (I guess I wasn't counted!). That's just the most egregious examples in a long, long list.

I get grass is greener ect but what bothers me is that it reinforces the idea that sibling relationships are *always* a net positive, in a very "nuclear family is sacred" way

Like I'm not venting for the sake of it, I've been no contact for 4 years and it's great, I'm just frustrated that it's so goddamn hard to get people to acknowledge sibling abuse, or even get them to *not* perform shocked incredulity at the idea. Especially on tumblr, THE website where people talk about parental abuse all the time and understand that sometimes you really cannot salvage the relationship and it truly is detrimental

All I'm saying is stop assuming that things would be better with a sibling around. You don't know that! Believe me, things could be so much worse with a sibling around.

The good news is you get to choose your friends and siblings as an adult! :) Life can be sweet not matter who your nuclear family is! You're not a failure for not experiencing the hegemonic ideal of siblinghood! It's okay!

Okay. I've sat with this for a few hours and I still cannot figure it out. I don't know if playing Dancing With The Devil during Sun and Lin's sex scene this week was brilliant or not. Because listen, it absolutely did not fit the show or the characters. Don't get me wrong, it's a banger of a song that I have been listening to since Big Dragon aired BUT it was not the appropriate song for that scene.

However, I'm sure MosBank fans (myself included) appreciated the throwback. I was literally just telling @heretherebedork that I think Dancing With The Devil is a much better ISBANKY song than Pink Sea (the Sunset X Vibes opening) when I got to that scene and had my soul snatched out of my body. So I can't decide if it was brilliant to use that song as a kind of love note to MosBank fans or if it was just plain bad.

I think I have to land on somewhere in the middle. I think it was a bad choice show wise. It had no business being in the show, but at the same time the show already had a lot of issues and I thought the song/sound choices were not the greatest the whole time. But it was a good choice for fans. Which is fun and all but I wish it had been a different song. Well looks like typing this helped me figure out my feelings on the matter.

By choosing Dancing With The Devil, they betrayed the show and the story they were trying to tell (I know I know it wasn't done well up to that point either but hear me out). Dancing With The Devil belonged in Big Dragon. It belonged with Mangkorn and Yai because it completely fit their characters and their dynamic throughout the whole show. It does not fit Sun and Lin. Even at their...surliest, their meanest, their most devlish, neither one could accurately be labeled a devil. And especially not in a scene where they are coming together in an act of love (god I almost threw up typing that because I can't stand emotions but that's what that scene was). It felt disingenuous to the characters to have a song that did not represent them playing.

Now, with all that said, I want to make myself clear. I still loved it. I love that song every time I hear it. So I will criticize the choice to use it when a more fitting song should have been chosen, but I will still enjoy the scene and the show for what it is/was. This might be the first time that a song choice that took me out of a show and the scene did not ruin my enjoyment of the scene. It's truly a mixed bag. I am full of contradictions and multitudes and they are all coming out and being represented by that fucking song choice. Anyway, that is to say, go listen to ISBANKY's music. It's good and he deserves some more love there.
