A fellow rhythm doctor and vivid/stasis fan! How did you get into those games, and what are your favorite parts of both?

ooh good question! and thanks for asking! :] hope you're ready for my rambles

honestly, it's been long enough that my short memory span does not recall how exactly i got into rhythm doctor, but i'm preeeeetty sure it was back in 2021 from yub's videos on it. i liked it for a while and basically thought "oh that's neat!" but kinda forgot about it after a few months. cue 2023, in which i was really excited about adofai at the time. saw the july adofai/rd update video, wait thats right rd is cool, freaked out about act 5. it became a pretty big deal for me over the next few months and now it's like my favorite game of all time.

and, really? i don't know what my favorite part about it is. considering how attached to them i am it might be the characters. they're simple but characterized well enough that you really start to care about them. even in my countless replays i always get giddy over the various interactions. and i'm glad the fandom is as un-normal about them as i am because we can all just hold them in our hands and sob over them.

i got into vivid/stasis through rd, actually. i first found out about it through All The Times being in the tracklist. again, thought it was cool, but kinda forgot about it because i didn't have steam yet. remembered it through the collab level in june, finally decided to check it out a few days ago. and BY GOD is it fun. i got steam specifically for vivid/stasis.

my fav part is hands-down the mystery stuff. i had a blast solving the first puzzle (despite being really confused about it at first) and am looking forward to the apparently mind-scrambling plot. i'm not even finished with the story and am already trying to drag my friends into the arg-

I wish more people would weigh out the demand of how "realistic" something is regarding horror media thats supposed to be around a certain time era or within certain limitations with the fact that if it WERE 100% accurate to what it's trying to represent, it'd probably be lame as hell.

Have you seen the new Dead Cells Immortalis episode yet? It's kinda interesting and they close the gap between the show and the game's lore a bit more

yes i have! ive seen all 10 eps on ADN a while ago, and i have some thoughts on it (spoilers for ep 9 and vague spoilers for ep 10 below if you care!)

i think episode 9-10 are hands down the best episodes and honestly pretty exciting, but it kind of makes me angry, cuz it makes me imagine how much better this show would've been if they included more stuff from the game throughout the whole thing instead of just the last 2 episodes. not even deep dead cells lore, just like having settings and characters that actually exist in the game would go a long way to make this show feel like it's actually related to dead cells

i thought the twist was interesting too, i genuinely didn't expect them to do that... which is weird to think about because the queen is so important (imo) in the game's story?? the real plot twist to me was not that she exists but that they decided to include her in the show, because the rest of the show does NOT acknowledge dead cells lore like at all LOL. i also feel like this about basically the entirety of episode 10, but i'm not gonna tell you what happens in it haha.

anyway one thing about episode 9 specifically that i HAVE to mention:

after going back and forth making hand/finger puns for HALF A MINUTE they have a fight scene with middelus (bootleg hotk) for LITERALLY LIKE 7 SECONDS and after ONE STAB FROM A KITCHEN KNIFE he DIES

look i know it's for comedy (presumably???) but you cannot make me believe this kitchen knife stabbed him so badly he died. it looks like it barely pierced his fucking skin

Concept of languages and within that phonology (the study of the patterns of sounds in a language and across languages) is so wide you wouldn't have enough of a life to say everything about it. Unless you got one thing in mind. But I'm Flattered. Idk if I'd be much of a podcast guy I love visual stimuli. shan't lie I've had for months the idea to do a. does anyone else get bothered by like. voice actors not being properly credited. is this just me.

like, to start, there are games that are GOOD about crediting their voice actors (genshin impact, honkai: star rail - information on who voices what character is readily available in game for playable characters, and easy enough to find for npcs)

but even hsr, i was watching one of their trailers the other day where clearly like 5 or 6 different people speak in it, and only 2 were credited???

and there are some games that don't give you that information at all. for example, i've also been playing afk journey recently, and liking it a lot, but there is NO information anywhere on what voice actors were involved. at all.

and it's been especially egregious in mobile games recently where there's just. no way to tell if human voice actors even touched the project at all. and it unfortunately makes me wonder if ai voices have been used in some of the games. like. that's the only reason i can think of why they'd be so reluctant to give credit to the voice actors, is if there weren't any voice actors. 😭

How is the Thabes mod so far? Is it worth it to download

im not too far into it so i cant*** describe it in detail but i think if youre a fan of awakening looking for ways to make the game fresh again its probably pretty worth it! i havent made it far enough to judge the story changes (ive only finished the arena ferox chapter and the biggest change were the gen 2 kids instead of generics) but down the line i know things like mustafa and phila being playable/support options will obviously change the story a bit so if that interests you at all i’d say yeah try it out

theres also gameplay balancing which ive been loving, but some of the changes might be a lot for some people! things like changing skill progression (ex: robin no longer gets veteran at level 1, changed for hit rate +10) and inheritance (exclusive classes like lord and dancer are able to be passed down) help change it up a bit. im not at a point in a game where i have access to this class yet but i heard they took galeforce out of the darkflier line, changing it to an aversa only skill, similar to shadowgift in the vanilla game. as someone who grinds for galeforce in every save i think this is a very welcome to change to stop you from breaking the game once ur units start getting higher levels, but not everyone will like that so. keep it in mind!

and if you DO get it, i’d reccomend getting a different “copy” of awakening. if youre using a modded 3ds get another rom file and if youre on citra get like. another citra save (theres like a youtube tutorial on that i can link it to you if you want) because thabes is just so big it might wreck your existing save files. if you dont care about that then nvm but if you DO, well. be careful!

“kiss me (kill me)”, or “titania and oberon finally discover the OLD_DATA and end up widowed” (cw for body horror under the cut)

in an effort to gather info on improving their deckbuilding abilities and possibly deposing the scrybes entirely, oberon and titania seek out a potentially new source of power. the OLD_DATA possessing infinite knowledge is merely a rumor, something the scrybes are said to keep under oath or between the four of them, but prying knowledge from their subordinates had found them a lead.

titania had been the one to pay the price before she was promptly shot and killed by a well-dressed Man In Blue, never to be seen again. it was just standard procedure.

the two of them began their descent into subterranean territory, in an undisclosed location. oberon always carried the sigil of pentacles with him, so paying a small price was of no concern. titania, on the other hand, always kept her belt fastened to her hips, stocked infinitely with a variety of tools and solutions for any situation. she struck a match and lit a small candle, providing a flickering source of light in the humid darkness.

the two of them descended furthermore, the tension prickling in waves across their backs, but still determined to see this katabatic journey through to the end.

suddenly, and with no previous sign of diminishing beforehand, the flame from titania’s candle fizzled out, grey smoke wisping away into the blackness that encompassed them. only an overwhelming, damp, and alienating eigengrau.

then, oberon felt a small tingle. warm, with energy, but at the same time as cold and unfeeling as the rest of the environment. his ears perked, looking in the direction of where titania might be, judging by the way she shivered against him, her other hand gripping his arm tightly.

“did you feel that?” he asked her, and received a tense “oberon… i think it’s here,” in response.

a crackling, again. maybe not a crackling exactly, but whatever words either of them had to describe the sight before them would not have been enough.

(in front of them would be) in front of them is a blooming cacophony of sound and color (in front of them was), a corrupted fragment of void and lack thereof.

they were told not to handle it barehanded, if one should find a small piece of it, as if it were made of pure azoth, or the fragments of a fallen star.

however, out of sheer anticipation to inspect the fragment closer, they both rushed to seize it, overcome with an exhilarating feeling of power.

titania had been the one to seize it, what with her larger stature and longer arms. of course she had been. she had been the one who had worked the most to seek it out.

oberon rushed to her, never parting from his wife for even a second as he caught a glimpse of the crackling and ever-shifting mass in her hands.

“this is the purest form of energy i have ever laid my eyes upon” were her last coherent words before the crackling spread, erupting in a loud cacophony of static, raw energy, and ones-and-zeros, oberon nearly blinding himself by being in such close proximity to it. he could only imagine for a passing second what titania might have felt.

the cacophony grew louder and louder, oberon shrieking in pain as his ears rang, and every touch felt like pressing himself against the core of a burning star. despite the pain, he opened his eyes, flinching a few times before prying them open.

at the center of the cacophony was titania, writhing on the ground as scattered fragments of energy from the corners of the room spread out into lines across the ground like circuits, ones and zeros beginning to fade in and out periodically in the corner of oberon’s vision. her body was in agonizing pain, only able to let out desperate cut off screams before wretching forward and coughing up rendered blood and spaghetti code.

oberon weakly crawled his way forward in a desperate attempt to reach his beloved wife.

but before he could do so, titania’s upper torso burst from itself.

she stopped moving for roughly 5 seconds, oberon in disbelief, before she writhed again, her size growing exponentially in what had first seemed like a small room. her clothing, including her precious alchemist’s belt, had been torn to shreds and spread across the room in meager scraps along with what used to be cards and broken glass. at the center of it all was titania herself, a writhing abomination with more limbs than before and translucent wings breaking through the surface of her backs.

oberon stifled the urge to start screaming, cupping his mouth tightly over his nose and mouth as tears flowed.

titania (or what appeared in her place)’s large, vacant eyes stared into the darkness for a moment as she stumbled forward, trying to stay upright, before they met oberon’s, her darling husband’s little, loving green eyes.

“kiss me, oberon…” the creature lilted in her voice.

i'm sorry for causing concern, but ty for being concerned about me.

because the school year is coming to a close, things around me at work have been pretty intense, so i've been tossed around like a ragdoll the past week and haven't had much time to write as a result. i also haven't been sleeping very well and rush a lot in the mornings, so i've forgotten to take my mood stabilizer the past couple of days which makes me v sluggish, zombie-ish and unpleasant in general. :/

...when i am like that, as a weird way of sparing you, i suppose, i try not to post on here too much because it feels quite shitty indeed for you to get a notification for my blog just to watch me bitch n moan.

however, i have taken my medication today and feel bad for fumbling kyle week...as we know i'm not really good at holding myself accountable or making deadlines. oddly enough, it's not that i don't want to answer my questions, it's just that other than not being able to really find the time recently, i just can't find the right...words?

or, rather, i don't feel knowledgeable enough the subjects to answer? specifically in the areas of my tsot/tfbw styles and ncuniverses, i feel a little insecure because i don't know sp or the games as well as many other people do, so i'm trying to speed watch episodes/watch speed runs of the games online so i can at least keep some canon intact?

i also am finding that creating and understanding how high fantasy universes work is...difficult? lmao? also because i did crazy stuff with mutations and science and politics in my tfbw ncuniverse, that's also complicated and out of my wheelhouse...tldr: i have big ideas, but i'm not very good at backing them in fact or doing analytical stuff.

but...iiiiii need to, lmao. mental illness, but if i make a universe it has to be fully realized, it has to all make as much sense as possible, echo the canon, enhance it, feel real and be fluid...so if i'm not around too much it's because i'm trying to bolster myself with my sp knowledge ( ik, i'm a fake fan ) and watch/read/research high fantasy concepts and superhero/scientific fiction/dystopian stuff...so if anyone has any recommendations for me to watch or learn from in those realms, i'd appreciate it. again, this is intense...but i care a lot about my craft.

and specifically crafting something worthy of all of you, that makes sense, lives and breathes, reflects the show we love & is interesting.

'lright, you get one of my like 3 apocalyptic AUs!

So this one. uh, I submit the idea of sculk taking over the world! (it's a modern au for fun)

It's Dogwarts centric bc of course it is, but there's a whole Team B.E.S.T. side plot/reason Dogwarts ends up meeting.

Basically TLDR on that plot: Skizz is presumed dead, Bdubs is hurt, Tango is Not Doing Well, and Etho's, well, trying his best to hold the three together.

Anyways Tango sets a trap, and runs off to save his own skin. Bdubs is taken by a hoard, & Etho is separated and almost dies in a cave. Oh did I mention Etho's been slowly getting infected by the Sculk this entire time?

Skizz isn't dead however, and thank god because he saves Etho from certain death and brings him to Dogwarts, because safety in numbers. Skizz does not take the news that Tango tried to kill Etho and Bdubs well. *jazz hands* Team B.E.S.T. is NOT functional!

This happens over the course of about 3 weeks btw.

There's also the reason that Etho hasn't been overtaken yet, and that's because an antidote was created, but didn't work. However, it does prevent the Sculk from taking over the consciousness of people!

Yeah. Bdubs may be a Sculk-zombie thing but he's still Bdubs! So now Bdubs joins the makeshift group that is Dogwarts :]
