Great Old One, Mormo

[Monster Number 1900! And, in honor of that milestone, I am finally, finally, posting the statistics for Mormo, Goddess of Predators. She's been haunting this blog for about a year now, being one of the prime movers and shakers in the Age of Monsters campaign seed I sewed back last May, and have been teasing with NPCs and articles. She was intended to have been posted as a capstone to the "Monster Girl Summer" theme last year, but life got in the way.
She is also written in tribute to @abominationimperatrix. Of all of the people who I have met through my writing, she is the one who is most dear to me, and the Age of Monsters was inspired by us going from friends and confidants to lovers and soulmates last April. The Age of Monsters is intended to be a campaign that ties into our shared love of thinking with monsters, about deep ecology, weird creatures and world mythology, and of the importance of love and trust in a time of global chaos and destruction. I love you, Goddess, my Dearest Friend.]
Mormo CR 28 N Outsider This titan is a reptilian humanoid the size of a giant. She has a nest of writhing serpents for hair and six arms, each ending in long sickle claws. She is a serpent from the waist down, although a mass of scar tissue reveals she once had two tails that grew like legs from a pair of hips. Her remaining tail ends in a bushel of thorny spines. A pair of wings like those of a primeval reptile grow from her back.
Mormo The First Medusa, Goddess of Predators N Great Old One of ecology, reptiles and terror Domains Knowledge, Scalykind, Strength, Trickery Subdomains Competition, Fear*, Thought, Venom Worshipers druids, goblins, gnolls, naturalists Minions monsters of all kinds (especially hybrids) Holy Symbol a medusa’s head in profile Favored Weapon claw (or sickle) *clerics of Mormo can use the Fear subdomain to modify the Trickery domain
Mormo is the Goddess of Predators. She was born from the fear felt by the first animal with enough imagination to see a shadow and think it a predator. For millions of years, she was bestial, primordial, little more than a serpentine shadow, but as sapience developed and the gods began to take interest in souls, her mind sharpened, and she became as dangerous for her strategies as her teeth and claws. Mormo views the natural world as one to be studied in order to best determine what to hunt and how to hunt it, with the unblinking patience of a snake. Her hunts, and those of her followers, are focused to maintain the active equilibrium of ecological balance—reducing overpopulated species, controlling trophic cascades, and taking out species that consume more than their fair share of resources.
Mormo was once called the Mother of Monsters, and many species of monster found throughout the planes are her descendants. Mormo’s descendants tend to be creatures that combine mammalian and reptilian or avian features; griffons, medusae, chimeras and dragonnes are among her creations. In the past, she had many lovers and created new species with their lineages. The most notorious of these collaborators was Typhon, a Lord of Hell and former asura rana, created from the divine mistake of allowing dragons to proliferate. Despite his evil nature, Typhon truly loved Mormo, and spread cults of her under the alias “Echidna”. Mormo cared little for her humanoid followers, preferring the worship of the powerful individual monsters who hunted by her side. But Mormo also had enemies. And she was gazed upon with hungry eyes by Lamashtu, then a demon of infanticide who sought to become the Lord of Beasts and Queen of Demons. And Mother of Monsters.
Lamashtu ambushed Mormo, and was victorious after a battle that lasted for a full day. Lamashtu ripped the baby from Mormo’s womb and raised him as her own; this is Typhon’s last son, Abraxas. Lamashtu tore off one of Mormo’s twin tails, which regenerated into a cancerous creature on its own right. This was the origin of Geryon, who spread treacherous lies suggesting that Typhon and Lamashtu were lovers. This got Typhon demoted and murdered by Asmodeus; Geryon took Typhon’s place as a Lord of Hell and spent millennia erasing his predecessor from history. The blood that spilled from both combatant’s wounds grew into creatures with serpentine and humanoid traits; Mormo’s blood became the first nagas, and Lamashtu’s the first mariliths. And Mormo was slain, reborn as a mundane snake to regenerate in the First World for centuries, and maintaining her cosmic sulk for millennia more
But now Mormo stirs in her slumber. And she is ready to take her revenge.
As befits a Goddess of Predators, Mormo is a terror in combat. Millennia of dormancy and a closer tie to the natural world than other Great Old Ones has stripped her of an unnatural presence, but her fourfould gaze can petrify, paralyze, terrorize or merely strike enemies dead. She is extremely venomous, and those that have survived her venom report, chillingly, that it induces euphoria even as it breaks down tissue into a bloody mess. She uses her fangs (both in her own mouth and those in her serpentine hair) and claws in melee, and can fire the spines from her tail like arrows. One of Mormo’s most recently developed talents is witchcraft. She has made an arcane bond with the phouka Gigi, and Gigi treats Mormo as a patron even as Mormo treats Gigi as a familiar for storing spells. Gigi spends most of her days separate from Mormo on the Material Plane, and so Mormo usually maintains a small spell selection through Spell Mastery. If she is encountered with Gigi, Mormo has access to a much wider variety of spells (all witch spells from the Core Rulebook at least).
The cult of Mormo is small and scattered, but the First Medusa pays it much more heed than she did in her youth. Religious rituals include studying nature and monsters (either through texts or in the field), hunting for food, and mock chases and hunts among the congregation. Supplicants often use makeup, costumes, and illusion and transmutation magic to appear as different types of predators and prey for these hunts. Once someone is “caught”, the result is play fighting, sex or both instead of actual killing or consumption. Mormo’s worshippers value diversity of all kinds, and are often allies of other divinities with portfolios involving nature, scholarship and hedonism. As goblin and gnoll societies break free of Lamashtu’s influence, they often find Mormo, and her cult is growing fastest among these two species.

Greek Mythology Headcanons pt.2
-Apollo has this constant need and desire for perfection. If he isn't perfect at something, he instantly tries to fix it. He constantly needs validation and praise from people in order to feel satisfied with himself. This behavior surprisingly came from Ares. Apollo feared being scorned by Zeus like Ares is, so he does anything in his power to be everything his father would want in a son. Beautiful, Charismatic, Strong, Fast, EVERYTHING.
-Nerites and Ganymede are super close friends. Both are lovers of the big three, so they got a LOT in common. Nerites is kind of the more outspoken and loud one, while Ganymede is sweet and quiet. Nerites is what made Ganymede feel so comfortable on Olympus, because at first Ganymede was too uncomfortable because he was a "mere" human among gods.
-On the other hand, Adonis and Hyacinthus was a odd but interesting duo in itself. Essentially, Adonis is just insane in half the shit he says or does, and Hyacinthus somehow gets convinced of it somehow. Just know that if you see Hyacinthus and Adonis running towards a specific direction... run. the. other. way.
-Athena does not understand emotions as much as she thinks. Ares is a natural at understanding and deciphering emotion, but for some reason she doesn't get it and it always bothered her. Even though she doesn't understand emotion doesn't mean she can't feel them, but she definitely doesn't express it a good way.
-Cronos could have been a good father. When Zeus was his cupbearer, Cronos often said that he saw Zeus as a son and constantly praised him left and right. He even displays sorrow for his lost children to Zeus' surprise. This is what makes it so hard for Zeus to kill him at the end, because Cronos kept screaming "TRAITOR" until he was thrown into tartarus.
-(This could be interpreted either way since I like them as friends but also as lovers) Hermes is oddly possessive over Apollo but nobody notices because of his innocent, care-free attitude. It's not possessive in a bad way, more like "It's my job to comfort and protect Apollo. What do you mean he has other friends? That's stupid!"
-Apollo almost never looks the same day to day. His hair is ALWAYS styled differently by a day to day basis. Sometimes its curly, sometimes it's pin straight. Sometimes it's tied up, other times its flowing down his back. Sometimes he wants to wear white, others he wants to wear red. That boy never stays consistent.

Hera being weirdly close to Kronos even tho he eats her or tries to eat her in most sources low key kinda parallels how close Athena is to Zeus even tho he ate her before she was even born.

Surprise! Design for a random Greek myth character that I barely see mention of but found, that I could find exactly 1 pot depiction of, which. the lack of mentions make sense, as she's just been. In Tartarus, except for my beautiful mind where Hermes bails her out and they get her wings back from Achilles. By the way her wings were gifted to Peleus and Thetis who gave them to Achilles. Which makes sense that would be the retrospective concept, given his title of swift-footed, as Arke means swift. I wanted to give her another light and water theme, like her sister, but I didn't want to just do a faded rainbow- So I settled on the look light has reflected through water. smiles -Also note, I did reference drawings by Wolfythewitch for a few of the poses. If I should ? take this down because of that? please tell me.

TITANOMACHY: Dreams of the Hue | Omens 05 & 06
Art credit to the incredible Jonatan Anjos
Aqua/Marine | background: SALT OF THE EARTH | hustle: TRAUMA TEAMSTER | specialty: CYBOTEUR (L)
RUFUS | background: POSTHUMAN (MARIPOSA) | hustle: HAULER | specialty: CHARIOTEER (R)
Vroom-vroom, Omens, this world won't fell itself.
High-octane action is a centerpeice of TDoth, you are highly empowered individuals setting out to fundamentally change the world - we assume you have the proficiencies to do as such.
Omens move fast, and the Charioteer is the queen of keeping that speed assured. Rufus here has taken control of a truck from the hood using her BlackThumbs augs, plasma leashes giving her control of any vehicle she can get within a whip's length from. As well, her Chuggaway Mag-Boots keep her solidly (and stylishly) affixed to any metal surface.
Behind her, her Friend-in-the-Chair Aqua/Marine furiously types away on her Hardened Cyberdeck, assuring Aqua's safety on the highways they're precariously traveling.
These two are our first glimpses of Omens engaged in a Strike, the core structure of TDoth. Similar to Cyberpunk's Runs, Blades in the Dark's Heists and Wildsea's Voyages, Strikes are distinct missions with an end-goal of weakening a Titan's power one way or another. Many are high-energy, combat filled take-downs, and some are subtle social soirees simmering with explosive tension.
We got plenty more coming, including some devlogs from yours truly! I hope you can join us over on our playtest Discord, where we continuously refine and expand our playtest program to make this the best game it possibly can be.
As always, hope to see in there. We'd love to have you~

Fifth in the series: Hera
Hera is known to be the true power behind the crown. She's a no-nonsense type-A personality. She never lets her duties slip, even when she's heartbroken. Her ruthless cunning is what made her the Olympians' strategist. In her youth, she was definitely kinder and more trusting, though that trust and kindness only extended to her siblings inside of Kronos' stomach. Being their 'star', when her powers developed, she was what allowed them to see in the dark. Hera was always in the leadership position, and it was well-deserved. However, her life has also been filled with hurt. Her ability for strategy but weakness in combat resulted in her being kidnapped by the Titans in the tail-end of the Titanomachy, which resulted in her being torn apart a second time. However, that cunning is what allowed her to get close to Kronos and eventually "devour" (think of how stars become black holes) him with an ability that was never seen again and split her in half. She later "spat him out" in Tartaros. Outside of that immense surge of power, Hera is physically quite weak (partially as a result of that power surge) but hides it through her cunning and her political power. She can be extremely cruel, but is usually unbothered by people. She doesn't care to get close to others because the people that she's trusted most ended up being the ones to betray her.

More titano-babies, from my demented quasi-Hadestown AU in which Hades is a woman and everyone is traumatised. LtR: Hestia, Hera, Hades, and Demeter
Read the fic here!
sketch n more notes under the cut
Tumblr media
Sketched this at work basically immediately after finishing my roughs for the character designs. rip to Deme’s lil headband it was a cute idea in principle but didn’t want to work in the finished piece. Also enjoying Hades looking somewhat actually like Hades now on account of not being fluffy.
Elected to make the blood predominantly red with some gold/yellow accenting just bc it’s convenient visual shorthand for blood and also looked PATENTLY INSANE to have it straight gold.
What are they looking at? Idk! Are they having a nice time? No!

Olympian Headcanons
Disclaimer: I'm not a greek mythology expert, this is not factual, just headcanons I've been thinking of. However if you want me to explain why I think of something, I'd love to talk on it
-When Zeus neglected Ares as a father, Ares would go to Poseidon for comfort and guidance. After Poseidon's son r@ped his daughter and Ares killed him, Poseidon never kindly spoke to or about Ares again.
-Athena will always feel a sense of loneliness on Olympus, even though if you asked her she'd say allyship was not necessary for her. Most of them rather despise her, like Ares or Poseidon, or see her as a competition to beat, due to her favored child status. She's respected, and perhaps loved by Zeus, but she considers very few her friend.
-Apollo will never feel completely satisfied. He's wildly loved by everyone, he's beautiful like the sun, and his knowledge knows little to no bounds. He's powerful and well-loved by Zeus. But he'll always want more. He'll always think he needs to be more.
-Hades built a bond with Poseidon while in Kronos' stomach, due to Poseidon being the only brother he had. Hades became incredibly quiet and reserved because of the trauma, but Poseidon protected him and often spoke for him. Hades would only really speak to Poseidon. Which is why Hades would never forgive Zeus for splitting them apart and ruining their relationship, even if Poseidon was at just as much fault as Zeus.
-The reason Zeus was trusted so easily during the titanomachy was because of his looks. He looked so similarly to Rhea, that his siblings immediately felt safe around him. Kronos' stomach was so dark that none of the siblings could see each other, but when they realized Hades looked exactly like their father, they recoiled in fear.
-Even though Ares is treated bad by multiple members of the Olympians, Hephaestus will always feel intense loathing and jealousy towards his older brother. Because despite Ares' flaws, Ares will always be beautiful, beautiful like his mother and father. Hephaestus will never realize that the reason Aphrodite didn't love him was because of his neglection of affection, not because he was ugly.
-Athena didn't start off hating Ares. She once saw him as a little brother, despite the fact he was technically born first. She'd attempt to teach him her ways, just for him to get frustrated and lash out. She would continue to be Zeus' favorite, and that tarnished any relationship they could've had.
-When Ares finally gotten back from the jar, he was in critical condition. He couldn't die, but he was as "unhealthy" as a god could get. He felt no urge to get better, and refused medical treatment until Zeus talked to him.
