Regulus Black knew people stared at his boyfriend. He knew that when they went out to a bar, people looked. They admired his abs, his hair, his smile, his laugh.

He also knew that James had had his fair share of hookups during the time when they were getting together, years of pining and pretending to not be obsessed with each other. Regulus had dated Barty for part of that, and James, Lily, before they finally got together.

But now, they spent nights laying next to each other, fingers intertwined, talking about everything and nothing. They watched movies, James crying at the sad parts and Regulus laughing at his emotional boyfriend.

James took him out to dinner or attempted (rather badly, but attempted nonetheless) to cook him food. James gave him surprise gifts of some flowers that he saw while grocery shopping. And Regulus did the same for him.

And even when people mistook them for platonic and asked James out right in front of Regulus, or when one of his boyfriend's exes glared at him from across the room at a high school reunion, Regulus didn't feel jealous, and in fact, he was thankful to all of them.

It's thanks to them that James comes home to Regulus every night.
