A Very Important Timeline

Ryuki 23: Gorou gets held hostage by Asakura and tells him very confidently that Kitaoka will not come save him. Kitaoka indeed does try very hard not to, but ultimately fails just as Gorou returns. Kitaoka now can no longer deny to himself that he cares about Gorou, and Gorou almost certainly realizes that Kitaoka was actually going to save him as well.

Ryuki 24: First episode in which the Kitagoro house is shown to have a couch.

Though there's still an underlying sadness in his eyes, Oz is finally starting to look just a little like himself again. Except, his default outfit just got a much, much needed upgrade. thank god.

There's a festival on in Reveille. Duke Barma had called off the trio's bodyguards and sent them into town with orders to have as much fun as possible, saying their gloomy faces had been making the Duchess Rainsworth worry.

Alice runs off chasing the smell of meat, and Oz runs off after her, a refreshing callback to the simpler times of the Story's first act.

Duke Barma and Duchess Rainsworth take a stroll through Pandora's gardens as they discuss matters. And one of those matters is Xerxes Break, who's finally come to after more than a week.

Inside, Sharon races through the halls to meet him after receiving the news herself. She finds him wrapped in a sheet and brooding on the floor.

Sharon thinks about why Break is so hard on himself, refusing to accept help from others. It must be because of his past, but she knows very little about it. It doesn't really matter anyway, she likes the way he is now. Her awkward, lonely, good for nothing big brother.

Back in town, Gilbert drops his crepe in shock at the news Oz has just given him.

As Oz and Gil discuss Oz's Incuse, Alice remembers a conversation she'd had with him recently. Oz had sat her down, and told her about her missing memories that he'd seen way back in chapter 19.

After racing through the halls filled with bodies during the Tragedy of Sablier, he had followed a young Vincent, and found Alice back when she was human. But it was too late. She had already been killed, stabbed with scissors.

Unfortunately, Vincent had forced Break to destroy the bell that memory was stored in by holding Sharon hostage.

Back in the present, Oz and Gil are starting to get on her nerves. They're still carrying on back and forth, Gilbert fussing over Oz, Oz fussing over Gilbert for being too uptight.

Finally, they turn to Alice to decide which of them is being unreasonable. She says she doesn't know, to her, it sounds like they're both saying the same thing.

Leo apologizes for interrupting their conversation.

Oz smiles sadly to himself without turning around. It's been a while, hasn't it?

Leo notices Oz doesn't seem surprised to see him.

Sadly, no, he admits. Whenever they're allowed to move around freely, without a guard, it's usually because they're being used as bait to lure out an enemy.

Do you have opinions on the current run of Rebecca and changes to Maxim since the original production?

I saw Rebecca live for the first time in February in Vienna (it was also the first time I ever went to Vienna, and the famous Raimundtheater, and oh also I met Aris Sas sjögkslfpskdld), and I've tentatively been planning a new video titled something like "Rebecca review and retrospective" where I'd compare the book (which I've now read) to the famous 1939 film which I think has had a lot of influence on all further adaptations, and then look at what happened with the musical (it was thematically a bit wonky from the start - or rather, did away with the main themes of the book and replaced them with "a love that set me free" - but it got worse after they added stuff like Zauberhaft Natürlich lol).

I haven't watched a lot of different productions yet, so I should definitely do that if I plan to do a vid. (I love the original cast album, Uwe's Maxim is so interesting and pathetic - some people describe him and Wietske!Ich as two weirdos who fit together and I agree, they're amazing. Haven't seen videos of the original run yet but I plan to. And before seeing it live I'd only watched clips of the Stuttgart production, mostly Ich-related because she's my favourite character).

But idk, in general I think Maxim in the current production is extremely bland 🤣 Granted, I've heard that the understudies are better, but omg... Mark just doesn't seem to remember to act at all, he's just Some Guy. I only really liked him in one single line of hilf mir durch die nacht & then some of kein lächeln. But it really pales in comparison to previous portrayals. Idk if he's just tired of being trapped in the VBW machine or what ajflksöff. His voice is really nice but his performance as Maxim is generally so bland and generic... and it's so sad to see when the rest of the main cast and even actors portraying more minor characters are so good. Like, James Park as Frank Crawley has a lot more nuance than Markxim and he only has one solo song to himself!!!

But to return to the original topic - I don't think I can answer this yet, because I haven't watched all of Uwe or Jan Ammann (who I think are considered among the most influential Maxims - I'll have to do some research to find out which other prods are considered impactful), but I'd love to do a video about it! :D
