I haven't seen anyone talking about this yet (other than on italian tiktok), but I feel like we need to spread this news more:

Recently (not sure about the exact date) an 11 years old girl borrowed Heartstopper from a library in Bologna during a school trip, and when she got home her mother immediately got worried because of the book's topics. Why you may ask? Because it's a "gay comic book".

Not only did she have the teachers apologize for not checking what every student borrowed from the library, but she even complained to the library and asked for clarifications on why they were selling these kind of books. The manager obviously claimed the freedom of expression when it comes on the decision on what's shown to the public.

Now, the story could have ended here (and it would already be scarily worriyng if you think Heartstopper, of all novels, is going to negatively influence your daugther).

But no, politics had to get involved. Because one of the Lega[italian right's party]'s councillor demanded the removal of "propaganda books" from children’s libraries. Not only that, but two deputies (one of which is the author of the approved law of not introducing any "gender ideas" in schools) have called the case "creepy" and requested more controls over what's sold and shown to children.

All of this because of two boys kissing and holding hands.

Obviously this clearly homophobic controversy wouldn't even be a thing if Heartstopper was about a cis boy and girl.

Not to get political but this must be a fragile system if it can feel threatend by just Heartstopper.

Eddie Munson's death was not only a sacrifice. I believed and still do believe that was intentional.

A suicide.

He knew if he survived and escaped the Upside Down, he would get arrested. Get blamed for all of the shit happening in Hawkins. After all, he's a satanic freak. Almost as If he was the Frankenstein monster.

He knew there was no possibility for him to live normally if he'd survived. He knew there were more people who disliked, hated...no, feared him. However, he had to prove mostly to himself that he was a good person. He died for a town that would've haunted him forever.

That's okay to him. At least now he can rest peacefully and not with the crawling feeling that he'll never have a place in society. Finally, he can rest peacefully. He knew deep down, until his eyes closed, he was a nice person.

He never was evil.
