That scene where Galadriel says farewell.
Galadriel is in a swan-shaped boat
She is singing a song.
This is the last time Middle-Earth will see her.
Tolkien was a very deliberate writing.
This is a swansong.

“In this phial,” she said, “is caught the light of Eärendil’s star, set amid the waters of my fountain. It will shine still brighter when night is about you. May it be a light to you in dark places, when all other lights go out.”

Now I'm watching the 1978 animated Lord of the Rings, which only includes Fellowship and Two Towers. (Apparently they made it and then people waited somewhat patiently for them to release the third story and finally the people who'd made the Hobbit asked "you're gonna do Return of the King right?" and they were like "naw, two thirds of a story is enough" so the Hobbit people made ROTK in 1980.)
The 80s Saturday morning cartoon vibe is still so strong.
It's like they're trying to cram the story into as short a time as possible. Or maybe Peter Jackson was trying to tell it as slowly as possible? Or maybe both.
Saruman the White is wearing red.
This version of Aragorn? Not that hot.
Eowyn and Arwen aren't even in this!
Cheesiest Balrog I've ever seen. It looks like an animated Sasquatch with wings.
Man, all these voices sound like the trilogy actors too! Like, did Elijah Wood go in and redub this?
Galadriel looks like Wonder Woman, but I guess at least she's here.
Treebeard would've been an undecided voter this year. "I'm not all together on any side because no one is all together on my side". My dude, one side is actively slaughtering your people and the other side is... not doing that? Seems like an easy choice to me.
I wasn't born when this was released, but if I'd watched it as a child, this Smeagol would 100% have given me nightmares.
Spoiler alert: they just... end it after Helm's Deep with a voiceover basically saying "and then there was no more evil in Middle Earth". They don't even pretend that the ring was destroyed.
Whoever voiced Gandolf in the '77 animated Hobbit sounds so much like Ian McKellen.
This seems like it was written as a parody of the Peter Jackson trilogy.
This is so '80s Saturday morning cartooon.

You may meet a friend of mine on the Road: a Man, lean, dark, tall, by some called Strider.

Reading The Lord of the Rings and there is a small scene in Fellowship that I cant stop thinking about.
it's after Frodo and friends meet Aragorn for the first time. After they have slept the night in the Inn and are ready to leave, but they learn their poneys are no more. Let loose by the enemy to delay them even if slightly.
And because they need at least one for carrying everything they need for the travel, they decide to purchase one from the most hated individual in the town: Bill Ferny.
It was an old mistreated, malnourished pony that was on the brink of death. And which Bill sold to them for far more than the Pony was worth. But they still purchase the Pony because they have no choice. and this Pony does not seem that important, just a minor nuisance to make their journey slightly more difficult.
And then the book goes onto mention how the old pony, having changed owner, being fed and cared for, becomes healthier, more alive. Capable of actually moving and helping.
And then the book mentions how this pony has to carry Frodo. And how it makes an effort to find the least bumpy path to leviate the journey for Frodo.
And it's the way in which the book shows the kind nature of the heroes, in which even as they are trying to escape from danger, they were able to help this poor creature. and how it gives that kindness in return the best way it can.
The way in which Tolkien says a little bit of kindness can do so much.

‘We must do without hope,’ [Aragorn] said. ‘At least we may yet be avenged. Let us gird ourselves and weep no more! Come! We have a long road, and much to do.'

Departing Son of Gondor
Not to long ago my LOTR obsession rose from the grave, and it has been reigning ever since. What a time to have the art skills that I have now <3
(also yes, I am well aware I got the quote slightly wrong, forgive me, I was doing it from memory)
