Circe's Potion

So no one is going to talk about how Circe's "potion" is not really a potion at all (like just a liquid) but that it was practically a type of broth? No? Then I guess that I have to do it so you can make it at home hahahaha and enchant all your guests or maybe make them fear you! Hahahhahahaha your choice!

And then she mixed cheese and barley and golden honey and stirred them with Pramnian wine.

So her potion is not really a pure drink but a broth! A salt-sweet broth given the ingredients. The name of the drink or rather the notion of it seems to be also appearing in the Iliad as a healing potion given to Machaon (and ironically is yet another time a female character to make it). The name seems to be Κυκεών / Kykeon which simply translates as "potion" from the verb κυκάω which means "to stir"

The honey is mentioned as χλωρό that also means "greenish" of color or greenish gold. If you are like Circe may I suggest wild flower honey or eucalyptus honey or potentially herbal honey such as thyme or bush honey. Plants typically found in the wilderness and also known for their healing properties.

Barley if raw might need some preparation to be soft enough to be consumed unless you do not mind some crunchiness XD otherwise it can be boiled or turned to dust beforehand I guess! If you have a mortar or a blender!

For cheese I would suggest white cheese as it would be more common in antiquity. Goat cheese is preferable hahaha! Just probably not too salty!

Both main ingredients (barley and wine) are associated with gods that have to do with life and death Demeter and Dionysus

As a result this type of drinks were associated with Eleusinian Mysteries

Which consequently I find very interesting given how Odysseus drinks this and then descends to the underworld! Odysseus is basically doing LITERALLY the Eleusinian mysteries!

In fact the whole thing seems to be somehow related to the travel on the underworld. Odysseus meets Hermes who assists him through (Hermes who passes the dead in the underworld) he drinks a potion related to Eleusinian Mysteries he travels to the Underworld and he comes back!

Pramnian wine was probably made of resin grapes (although the actual making process is mostly unknown) therefore it was very thick and heavy to drink without watering or preparing and ancient writers thought it was reserved for its healing properties

Maybe this is why the Greeks drank her potion! Maybe they thought she wanted to heal them! Oh Circe you are good!

So basically Circe's potion is yet another example of the word φάρμακον which in ancient Greek meant both "medicine" and "poison" Hahahaha! And speaking on "poison" see this HILARIOUS artist make it! And the rather encouraging reaction when he tries it! XD

He really likes to see the way you view things in life and express your thoughts on a piece of paper/canvas and he also can't help but to shower you with lots of compliments "Y/N It looks so cool! Daniel will also appreciate it if you use him as your reference! His heart will melt if you initiate to sketch him especially his original body. If you're the shy type who won't show off your artworks to him, he'll definitely respect your privacy and space though he can't help but to be curious sometimes. And if you're the messy and inorganized type, expect him to just randomly check out your sketchbook especially when you both clean your shared apartment (don't scold him though he just picked it up on either the floor or the dining table which where it shouldn't be lmao). Zack's so amazed by everything you do even if it's the simplest things, so what more if you make a masterpiece everybody should be proud of ;)?

He'll also ask if he can take a look of your sketches and he'll be SUPERRR HAPPY when you showed him your sketchbooks and random doodles. Zack's so fascinated by how you illustrate things in your art style, making him showering you with lots of compliments. "You're so good at this! You really are a perfect person!". Trust me when I say that just like Daniel if you asked him to draw him as a reference, his heart will not only beat a hundred times faster but he's also going to explode from your request. His someone asking him to sketch him? His day couldn't get so much better. This man would be so protective and proud of you.

Jay finds it really interesting when you illustrate something beautiful while being effortless. If you're seatmates with him, he would slightly look at you sketching random things while the teacher discusses another boring lesson. Him multi-tasking with him just listening to the teacher's ramble while his eyes are focused on you drawing on your scratch paper instead of taking notes. Both of you may get into trouble for not listening but since Jay's a top student he can help you catch up with the topics (Istg I saw him on the anime and webtoon not taking notes down while there's a lesson yet he's manages to be in the top how does he do that?)

Headcannon: You and Jay would communicate with cute and silly drawings. For example you and Jay would exchange notes with you asking him how he's feeling or if he's been doing well with a cute cat doodle with a confused/concerned expression plastered on its face with a question mark. And he would respond back with a much simpler drawing of a dog smiling (considering how much he's scared of dogs, well he used to be), a sign/message that he's okay as the conversation will go on :) He also respects it if you're a bit shy of showing your drawings to him not wanting you to feel uncomfortable but he would also appreciates it when you initiate to show it to him. If you're the messy type he'll also check your sketchbook before giving it back to you. Though he will often ask permission if he can check your artworks out.

He also really likes your artstyle! No matter what style or genre of drawing you have you'll never fail to amaze him. He would also appreciate it when you draw him! anyway that got into when he laughs. as for HOW he laughs: it varies depending on how funny something is.

unlike L, this statement is ONLY true for when he's in the company of others. when alone I think Near does a fair bit of laughing, though it's quiet

it's just the kind of vulnerability and genuine enjoyment that he only feels safe to express when he's alone...

anyway Near's laugh is a little rough like he's not used to doing it. he might chuckle for a while, or just let out a quick and sharp "HA!" if he's more startled into laughter. the first one is more private, the second he might let out a couple of times in company

I think Near would also lie in bed at night and just laugh at the ceiling. maybe especially if he's had a bad day. it makes him feel a little better and reminds him that there are good things in the world! Because when Near laughs he remembers the other things that have made him laugh

it's a sign he likes and trusts someone if he laughs with them

Near can also mimic lots of different kinds of laughs. I feel like he's a storyteller, even if he only tells the stories to himself, so this skill can come in very useful!
