You're telling me a beautiful person out there in the world made absolutely STUNNING artwork for MY fic?!?! DFGHJK NO WAY. I never thought Incendiary would leave such a long lasting impression like this when I started writing it and I'm EMOTIONAL RN. I feel like I've just been bestowed the highest possible honor as a writer and I'm speechless, this is breathtakingly gorgeous work. I think Orym's position here is such a great one to depict, because the reality of any form of political organizing you will find someone who will not budge. This is fundamentally neutral, though someone like this can certainly have a position you find repugnant. It doesn't matter. This is the reality of dealing with that person. If someone will under no circumstances change their position - especially if it's informed by personal experience - that doesn't mean they are a good or bad person or their position is justified or not, but it does mean that to get them on your side, either you will have to find a way to appeal to them, not the other way around, or you will have to move forward without their support.

When encountering someone like this, you can bang your head against the brick wall and tell them about the superiority of your position for as long as you want, but unless you dip into threats and coercion or worse, you really cannot make them do anything they don't want to, no matter how eloquently you speak. There's considerable power in being that person.

(For what it's worth, I think he's perhaps the truest foil to Ludinus in this respect; I believe Ludinus's beliefs to be just as deeply ingrained and immutable. The key difference is that Orym is not in any way responsible for the death of Ludinus's family, or like, Molaesmyr, so when they move into the moral part of the argument instead of simply the blunt reality of unmoving objects, he does have a significant advantage.)

What did/do you like about Pharah?

Uh, gameplay-wise, I really love characters in shooters who rely on three-dimensional movement techs. Chaining together hover and jump to stay in the air for as long as possible and keep momentum is so satisfying, and picking enemies off from the sky made me feel like a bird of prey. I was a good Pharah main.

Story-wise, there unfortunately isn't much to canonically go off because Pharah is so underutilized and neglected. Her personality's pretty boilerplate "heroic hero" (she's literally inspired by Captain America).

But it's the crumbs/bits and pieces that I really latched onto. Pharah's a confirmed lesbian; her short story with Baptiste implies she harbors a crush on Mercy (fucking thank you.). She's biracial Egyptian/First Nations. She has major mommy issues, having grown up both admiring and resenting Ana. She's the bridge between Old Overwatch, inspired by the idealized heroes who surrounded her childhood, and New Overwatch. She's one of the only inter-generational characters in the cast; someone whose experiences span the gap, which is why I seriously believe Pharah would make a great main character.

There isn't much to go off of, though; she's a very uncomplicated character (she's a soldier for a private military corporation, lol.). But that just means she's a blank slate character, so I've seen fanfic writers run wild and create some really interesting takes on her. My favorite interpretation of her's a dense, herbo gym-bro type (a lot of her liens are about work outs, exercising, and playing sports) who's easily excitable under her seemingly self-serious, armored visage. We see how she tends to gloat and hype herself up when she's on a streak too, so Pharah definitely has a competitive and boastful side under her more professional and militant performance.

Now Mercy? Mercy is a real complex character.

it is kinda funny that there's a simple cheat code out there to understanding most of valentino's career but it's just about long enough ago that most people simply... ignore it. like there's a three year span that more or less tells you what you need to know about him. it's like you say! pretty much every possible "why would vale..." secretly has a straightforward answer, and 9/10 it's something that was established in 2003 to 2005. simple as

if anything it's almost annoying because it's too easy. the 2004/2015 stuff in particular is incredibly funny. oh, so you say you have a controversial last lap at assen where valentino beat a rival in direct combat and said rival reacted surprisingly poorly, making valentino reevaluate his relationship with the rival? might that tell you something about how a seed of suspicion once sown can remain dormant for months until valentino is given cause to revisit it? valentino quite literally says in his biography that he could never have hated biaggi because he wasn't a friend and didn't have the power to hurt him... the sepang pressers thing is genuinely just silly, I know this is mainly a function of when they happen in the calendar but what a bizarre coincidence. 2015 is like a slightly more opaque funhouse mirror version of 2004 - but so many of the major beats are virtually identical. which means you've got a season Out There where a younger less experienced less guarded less cynical valentino basically walks you through his internal processes so you get a really good handle of what his deal is. he's piecing together his identity as a competitor going forwards in real time - and then in 2015 he just reminds you of what exactly that identity involves. it's a reaffirmation and not a departure... he's not that inscrutable after all, in the end

been flooding friend’s dms with so many tendertrustheartbreak essays that i had to put it into an image

lights and posing only took about two hours, mainly because nimbus’ left hand is actually clutching on to rohan’s shoulder/chest, and hands are very hard to pose. unfortunately as sweet as i thought that was it just did not fit compositionally and i had to abandon it. but i tried and didn’t give up, so i’m super proud! and the paintover was very fun to do. though their metal bits reflect the plain grey blender workspace and i couldn’t get them to take on more interesting reflections other than the lights... rohan’s face reflecting in nimbus’ helmet is chef’s kiss but all my attempts at background reflections did not work out. i am bad with 3D stuff still. getting there slowly!

i have a weird amount of nostalgia for the period after the server reset where the eggs were invincible because it was just funny the entire time. like on the one side of the spectrum you had families like philza's where they were like "yeah you're invincible but let's not take risks, no need to be stupid about it we'll just hang out and have fun like we normally do" and then you had eggs like dapper who was like "FUCK YEAH I CAN'T DIE ENDGAME BOSS TIME" and then fought a fucking UNDERWATER LEVIATHAN WITH ITS OWN SOUNDTRACK and i'm pretty sure it was late night trio or perhaps only 2/3 late night trio that fought the pumpkin boss and gave bad and ghosties thirty heart attacks bc that boss could negate the egg's op resistance and actually kill them lmfao

Okay so, in order, mine are Monet's garden paintings - I don't think I have one specific favourite, but the water lilies and bridge paintings are so special to me! Love love love Monet (did see some of his work at the London MoMA!!! So special!!!).

Then we have Psyche Revived By Cupid's Kiss by Antonio Canova, which I have been very annoying about in here before lmao. It's on the Louvre and I really want to visit it 🥺 I know for a fact that I'll weep seeing it in person 🥺 (it's also my favourite myth btw 💘)

Then my most favourite is probably Portrait Of A Lady by Gustav Klimt. I've been in love with it for a million years now 💙 HERE:

Everyone talks about The Kiss or Adele or any other with his famous patterns like Death and Life and The Virgins, etc etc. But for some reason Portrait Of A Lady makes me go all fuzzy and warm and teary-eyed. I can't explain why. Would also love to see it in person one day - it's in an Italian museum (forgor the name).

so you know that guy from king gizzard that does harmonica and keyboards? the one with the weird name? usually hangs out behind some synths on the left of the stage. well it turns out he (ambrose kenny-smith) is a total fucking natural born frontman in his own band: The Murlocs!

most gizzheads are at least vaguely aware of murl as one of the many gizz side projects, but surprisingly few know what a powerful force of psychedelic blues rock they are in their own right. it took me wayyy too long to get around to checking them out, but when i finally did, all it took was one album and a 20 minute live show clip and i was booking a 7 hour bus ride up to london to see them live. the album was manic candid episode and i'll put a link to the live show video below. ambrose is dressed as the greek god dionysus and feeds grapes to the audience. its awesome.

ALSO.... cookie from gizz is there too!! he plays bass and he is so so so cool. the whole band rocks. give em a listen! ok peace out ✌️
