i’m a man in the way that an angel is a man, a divine incomprehensible being taking a familiar shape for the sake of those around them.

i’m a man in the way that a robot may have a male interface, it’s not truly necessary for a computer program to have a gender, but it makes it feel more human and people like things that remind them of themselves.

i’m a man in the way that an unknown animal is a “he”, the actual sex of the animal doesn’t matter, and knowing it wouldn’t change anything, but you are going to continue under the assumption that it’s male because for an animal that is the default.

the word “man” could never begin to encapsulate all that i am, but if it puts others at ease, allows them to empathize with me, makes it easier for them to speak and think about me, then it’s good enough.

Fabrication Machine (commission)

This is my first proper commission, an illustration for a custom MTG proxy card. Made a lot of mistakes, stalled for a while, got jaded at the end, but overall I am happy with the result. I don't think I'd ever have painted the Machine on my own volition, so I'm glad I had this opportunity. Spent some time studying it's "anatomy" and all the details, it's cool to notice all the things that went into the initial design and the logic behind each part (like the fact that the Machine's been missing one of it's arm from the very beginning for some reason, or the fact that it's depiction on one of the official movie posters is incorrect in several ways).

Always remember that Harold Finch couldn't trust Dillinger with The Machine even after months of them working together but he didn't hesitate to tell John that it existed it and that he built it.

Not only he trusted John with the information, he also trusted John with the actual machine, and we all know he is an incredibly paranoid man that doesn't trust anyone.

Oh I miss this show.
