#this for real. 2 things to add.#1: as someone who is autistic about the animation pipeline (and now gets to work in it!) this is a really stupid and disrespectful way to#view the production houses/teams that make 'kids shows'.#like people still labor on this and for the most part theyre making conscious choices and telling the best story they can#within the confines of the network and medium and budget!#like fuck dude! art you dont like is still art. a labor of love you dont love was still a labor. theres skill and time in this#2: i dont watch this shit cause im childish and juvenile. i love media analysis. i know what more complex media is#i watch 'kids shows' because like. on god? its the only form of an art i love that wont reliably trigger me#like even mixed in with all the autism that makes live action difficult for me to decipher and animation so so so intriguing to me....#the list of “adult media” i can watch without a doesthedogdie visit is insanely small.#but theyre not gonna randomly put a suicide joke into Phineas and Ferb now are they#ALSO ALSO: straight up ive seen anim/kids media that really IS that illuminating if you pull your head out of your ass#sry i dont like ops slight implication that the 'kids show watchers' are all just kind of like. disabled/stupid/inexperienced. anyway
This was an off-the-cuff post made in frustration after seeing a take that irritated me, so I apologize if it wasn't clear, but my point is not "people who like kids' shows are disabled/stupid/inexperienced," my point is that if you're trying to encourage people to expand their media horizons, making fun of the things they like is counterproductive.
I think it's important to encourage people to explore new media that challenges them and explores new topics they've never thought about before. My point is that derisively telling people to "watch something for adults" is counterproductive to that goal, in addition to being disrespectful to the art. Children's media is incredibly important and worth analysis in its own right, and I have profound love for the people who create it. I am writing from the perspective of someone who has volunteered in schools and is actively working with someone on lesson plans for a media studies class for kids.
I adore animation. I enjoy a lot of kids' media, which I said in the original post. I am a media analyst. I write essays about media and pop culture and get paid for it. I talk at great length about, and share many articles about, labor rights and the animation industry. I am working toward learning traditional animation techniques. Obviously you wouldn't know this if you don't follow my blog, but I want to be crystal clear that I am not coming from the perspective that "only disabled/stupid/inexperienced people watch cartoons."
I really have no patience for posts talking about "adults who only watch kids' cartoons," because, like...people accuse me of "only watching kids' cartoons," despite all evidence to the contrary. It doesn't matter how much I talk about other adult media I like, if I post too many things in a row about Steven Universe or The Dragon Prince or The Owl House, people come out of the goddamn woodwork to accuse me of "only watching kids' shows."
So I really can't take people seriously when they start talking about the supposed "problem" of "adults who only watch kids' shows." Are the "adults who only watch kids' cartoons" in the room with us right now, or are you basing your entire opinion of people solely on their fandom blog? Like, come on.
It makes me think of the couple years I spent volunteering in a school library. The librarian talked a lot about how it's hurtful to enforce "reading at grade-level" on every student with no nuance. Teachers would try to force their students to check out books "at proper grade-level," instead of letting students pick out whatever they wanted (even if it was "too easy"), and it resulted in a lot of students deciding books were boring, too hard, and only good for making them feel stupid. They started to hate reading entirely, because people constantly shut them down and told them they were stupid for not reading the right things. This was especially brutal on disabled students.
I personally apply the same philosophy to adults. You don't know what someone might struggle with, you don't know what someone's history is. You might think a piece of media is "too simple," but that's your experience and your opinion. People learn and grow and experience the world at different paces, and what seems to you like a "simplistic" piece of media may be the most complex, illuminating piece of media someone else has ever had the opportunity to experience. It doesn't make them "stupid" or "childish," and believing that it does is cruel and counterproductive. You cannot wield shame as a fucking cudgel if your goal is education, support, and helping people expand their horizons.
I don't think a culture of shame is helpful. I don't think a culture of "if you like 'childish' things, it means you're too stupid for anything else" is helpful. I don't think constantly making fun of children's media does anything other than demean people--and not just the people who enjoy it, but the people who make it, too.

Halloween costume
Players headcanons
summary: what certain hockey player would wear as a halloween costume with his partner
note: it's time to finally start this masterlist haha
C. CAUFIELD
Cole is this type of guy to have silly but meaningful Halloween costumes for both of you. Most of the time the costumes look like they had been picked out at the last minute but for two of you, they have a deeper meaning. At every Halloween party, you would have a costume related to a cartoon that you’ve been obsessed with and become a guilty pleasure movie for you. Example? You would wear Woody and Jessie costumes because in past months, Toy Story was your movie that two of you would watch when one of you had a bad day and needed a laugh.
A. FANTILLI
You and Adam are huge movie fans. Every day that he’s at home, you need to end up with a movie. Halloween costumes would be based on the genre of movies you’re currently watching. It’s a fun time for both of you so you don’t care if you look silly or not, it’s all about having joy from this day. Example? You would dress up as Mr & Mrs Corleone because for the past month you two had been obsessed with The Godfather trilogy to this point that you would read a novel on which the movie is based.
N. HISCHIER
You and Nico love Peaky Blinders so obviously two of you had to pick costumes based on this tv show. At first, it was supposed to be an inspiration, more like the aesthetic of those years where the action is based. Later Nico proposed to dress up as Tommy and Grace. He wanted both of you to be main characters from the tv show at the party. You came up with an even better idea. You suggested it to be Michael and Gina because they lived in the US and not in England like the rest of the characters. Nico without a doubt agreed on this.
J. HUGHES
You and Jack love Halloween and dressing up. Each year you impatiently wait for the party to pick a costume because you two always have plenty of ideas what to wear. Each year you also have arguments over what to pick because you have troubles with deciding. Jack prefers this but you prefer that. Although now, for the first time, you two knew that you wanted to dress up as Joker and Harley Quinn.
L. HUGHES
Since you were a kid, you have loved Corpse Bride. Your dream was to dress up as Victor and Emily but you never had a good opportunity for this because the costumes you wore in the past were group costumes. Now, you convinced Luke to go dressed up as them, especially when you tried to tell him that he looks similar to Victor. He didn’t see it but seeing you all cheerful and talkative about this movie… He couldn’t say no to you.
Q. HUGHES
For Quinn, Halloween party would be the one time of the year when he can finally have a fun night and stop thinking about hockey. You would be the brain of the operation what to wear but he will gladly give you ideas. It’s always a costume of characters that two of you had to know. You would never pick something that Quinn is not familiar with. Example? You proposed to dress up as characters from Charlie and The Chocolate Factory. It was a childhood movie for both of you and he was happy at the idea. Quinn would wear a Willy Wonka costume when you would be an Oompa Loompa.
C. KELLER
Clayton didn’t care about the Halloween party but he saw the excitement in your eyes and wanted to play along with you. He didn’t bother you and let you pick whatever you wanted. Your head was spiralling with ideas but knowing that he doesn’t feel the joy of the holiday, you wanted to keep it simple and classic for him. You decided to dress up as the main characters from The Bear which was the tv show you’ve been watching lately. Clayton was happy with this because he didn’t have to dress up in anything crazy.
J. MARINO
Since the last Halloween party, you know what you want to wear next year. Whole year you were trying to convince John to agree to this costume. Every year he was telling you that he’s not gonna do it again but the truth was that for you, he would do anything. This costume wasn't special for him because it required only a suit from him and you bought him with that because he wasn't a big guy of dressing up. You two dressed up as Morticia and Gomez Addams.
M. REMPE
Matt was out of ideas for the Halloween party but you knew that you two needed to use the height difference. You didn’t have any plans until both of you watched Monsters, Inc. When you saw Sulley and Wazowski, you knew that these are perfect costumes. You told this to Matt and he completely fell in love with the idea and you two decided to make it happen. You bought a matching onesie as a costume that you were wearing around the house after the party.
J. SLAFKOVSKY
You and Juraj felt completely uninspired for the Halloween party. If you liked an idea, he wasn’t a fan of it and vice versa. Two of you were close to just showing up dressed normally without any costumes until you came up with an idea. You weren’t sure Juraj would like the idea but you decided to try. You proposed to dress up in the colors of Slovakian flag. At first, he was sceptical about this but eventually two of you wore white beanie, blue shirt and red pants. It was basic but you two loved it.

This really got me thinking.
Aside from select manga - mostly the big boy shonens like One Piece and Dragon Ball Z and Naruto but some long runners like Ah! My Goddess - most massive franchises don't have a singular canon.
Rule of thumb is if it has multiple writers, there is likely to be multiple canons.
There are of course exceptions - Sailor Moon has some spinoffs within the manga by Naoko Tekuichi. CLAMP plays jump rope with canon and timeline with everything they put out. Neon Genesis Evangelion and Puella Magic Madoka Magica has multiple universes built into their main canon.
Back to the original point, like DC, Marvel has multiple canons. The obvious being the movies even if they are based on comics they still differ from the comics. In the comics there are the Ultimates line, The Amazing Line, the Incredible line, The New Line and that's just X-Men and Avengers. Getting to other heroes and teams like the Runaways. Then the cartoons which have their own canon (except for the new X-Men cartoon which is supposed to be fateful to the comic line of the same name). And the TV shows which are technically a part of the MCU by Disney and the Sony Spider-Man movies which only got recently acknowledged in the MCU
This mirrors DC with the New 52, Rebirth, infinite frontier, the various and saundry Crisis events, DCEU, DCAMU, DCAU, Matsudaverse, Timmverse, the live action shows and movies outside of whatever Snyder made (like Constantine with Keanu Reeves and Catwoman with Halle Berry) and the new line of stuff from James Gunn.
If you wanna waste away a week just look up DC and Marvel as franchises and look at all the shit put out by them and what is considered main or spinoff canon.
hey! coming over to dc from marvel and the timelines are confusing me lmao. which continuity is considered “canon”?
#idk where i went with this#just come talk to me about media#its a special interest#i am a foot deep in an iceberg but i like uow cold it is#inq is a nerd

You mentioned "fandom virtue signaling" and you're right. The only thing these people are signaling is how much of fucking LARPers they are.
The deep disrespect to throw these terms around disgusts and speaks to a level of arrogant ignorance that I'm grateful that even the worst of middle school boys I've dealt with growing up never sank to.
Consumption as a form of activism is a plague. Your taste in the media is not who you are as a person, that is reserved for your actions. And these people's actions tell me this is all a clout game to them, that it's all unserious to them.
I've been to two concentration camps and lived in the deep American South that actively tries to hide its history of slavery. I've wept at mass graves and had to confront people wearing Confederate uniforms to show off their family history. When I lived in the Western United States our school made sure that by the time we were 12 we understood the horror of slavery. Down South we taught about systemic genocide across the world from the Holocaust to Rwanda. I was in those concentration camps because every season when I worked with the Make a Wish Foundation they'd purposely bring us there so we could understand.
How dare you claim to be leftist and utilize the trauma of millions to win a fight on Twitter.
The damnation of a cartoon girl whose purpose is to show how easily people can fall into becoming oppressive through their emotions as well as a show as the corrupting power of police - themes these people claim to champion is mentally lazy.
With how loosely people around the most horrendous hate groups in history as a "dunk", it's safe to say that these people would happily be memeing from an opposite direction if the circumstances were a bit different. The disregard for actual people is astonishing. I was sick to my stomach because I understood the severity of what horrors they casually invoking were using as mockery for fans of A CARTOON GIRL
Especially now that we're living in a time where actual fascism is taken over the United States. If someone is more pressed about Caitlyn "arrests require cause" "innocents will be caught in the crossfire" "no good will undo our crimes" Kiramman rather than the actual Nazis in our government then I'd rather them spit on me because at least it'd be a more honest expression about how they feel.
Learn some respect.
The Hitler and KKK jokes were never funny tbh

For the longest time I didn't know who Danny phantom was.
In my head he was just Danny devito but edited all ghostly
This is what I imagined
#replace that cartoon bitch with danny devito#danny devito#danny phantom#imagine my surprise when it was a twink instead of a short icon of a man#thought it was a live action movie#my danny phantom grudge still lives on#danny fenton

I'll say it as many times as you want, BJ! 💚
Finally done! Drawing with an iPad is such a different, weird experience for me, but I like how this turned out. Actually got the idea for it while trying to sketch a bit in the theater before seeing Beetlejuice Beetlejuice the second time. Glad to finally have it finished.

I think it would be a little funny if, when you see cartoon kids watching cartoons, it’s just like realism. Youre watching the cartoon and you look at their tv screen to see what looks like a live action doc mcstuffins. I think it would be neat, if a little jarring.
#Does this post even make any sense#Im trying to restrain myself from explaining it in a long and worse way#I would draw an example but I don’t know if I can#Or should#cartoon#cartoon characters#animation#realism#live action#funny#meme#haha#lol#humor#ok shut me up im feeling sick
