can you believe that we have fanfiction. that we have websites dedicated to fanfiction. that there is a place that you can go and read tens, hundreds, thousands and thousands of pieces of writing that strangers have made. people who are not "writers". people who come home at the end of the day and have feelings and say, i am going to put that into words. i am going to share those words. short, long, sweet, sad, horny, funny, wonderful words. we are all just human and we all love to make and remake and share that with others. can you believe that.

As cameras becomes more normalized (Sarah Bernhardt encouraging it, grifters on the rise, young artists using it), I wanna express how I will never turn to it because it fundamentally bores me to my core. There is no reason for me to want to use cameras because I will never want to give up my autonomy in creating art. I never want to become reliant on an inhuman object for expression, least of all if that object is created and controlled by manufacturing companies. I paint not because I want a painting but because I love the process of painting. So even in a future where everyone’s accepted it, I’m never gonna sway on this.

if i have to explain to you that using a camera to take a picture is not the same as using generative ai to generate an image then you are a fucking moron.

They got home from their hunt and harvest and made cave paintings! That shit is still around tens of thousands of years later!! The nature of humans is the pursuit of knowledge of creation! Paintings, pottery, sculpting, music, performances, it's how we express our soul, what we're thinking, our heart and mind! Literally no other animal (or AI, Gods forbid) can create art like we can! Thousands of different animals can love and have sex but humans are unique because we CREATE. Nothing will ever stop us from creating and enjoying creations. That's what makes us human. Without art we're a husk.

"AI art" doesn't exist. AI can't make art. It can generate an image. But it's not art.

Art is the result of creative skill and imagination, which AI doesn't have, created for their beauty or emotional power, which are not concepts AI "knows".

I can't think of any hobby more wallet friendly than picking up a pencil and paper. Like this is just plain stupid.

Also, I'm not an artist and I don't have drawings skills, but sometimes I paint little watercolors for myself and I have fun even though they look awful, and that's the entire point.

Also also, since I can't draw and I still want to share my ideas, I write. And yeah it takes practice but THATS THE POINT. There's so many genuine ways you can share your ideas with the world.

Hell, model with clay, act out a dumb video, draw stick figures, do whatever. I promise all of that is a better rendition than a program that isn't actually intelligent and is just giving you results based on keywords like a glorified search engine

Scrolling on youtube, see a trailer pop up for an upcoming queer/romantasy/enemies-to-lovers type film.

I have big weird feelings about romantasy and a lot of romantic tropes, because I am a super repressed queer fledgling writer with a lot of issues that should probably be dealt with in therapy but are currently being dealt with via fanfic.

But queer fantasy is always going to catch my interest, and it looks like a legit youtube channel, so I start watching the trailer.

It's AI.

But it's not just AI. It's apparently a "proof of concept" trailer, *posted by the actual book author*, to generate interest and support for getting their book adapted into a movie.

And just. I hate this. I hate this so much, on so many levels. I hate this with the burning passion of a thousand stars.

Because if you just handed me this book, and said "oh here, enjoy this fantasy adventure of a magically-trans-male wizard finding comfort in their new male identity and falling for their possibly evil and dangerously hot king", I would be like "Oh, yes please, I am very here for this".

(I didn't watch the whole trailer but I think that's what was happening?)

But see. Now, the first and primary thing I know about this book/author is "they are comfortable stealing from other artists". Which just hurts my heart.

And to be clear, literally no one owes it to me to feel the same way I do about genAI. So while I can't imagine any artist/author/creator actually wanting/supporting genAI, I acknowledge other people feel differently, for a variety of reasons.

But as a writer, the idea of someone else taking any part of my work (however sappy or crappy or terrible it may be at times), feeding it into a plagiarism machine, and then taking that soulless bastardized end product and saying "look, I created something" makes me want to vomit.

And it just doesn't take THAT MUCH empathy to expand that perspective to include other people's art and writing and ideas and labor. The plagiarism machine took YOUR (artwork/music/sound design/acting/directing/visual production) and vomited out a fake movie trailer for someone else's book? I'm so sorry!!! That is genuinely horrific, are you okay?!?!

So yeah. I just needed to scream this into the void. By all the saints and angels, by every blessed sin or cursed blessing: Fuck generative AI. Burn it to the fucking ground.

so remember when I made a post not too long ago stating that no requests pertaining to AI related content will be fulfilled? I'm gonna get much more specific with my feelings on this because a friend went down the rabbithole that is the pro-ai side of tumblr and I noticed people within it are following us. And YES, I know I said that I'm not super strict about my dni. but I find this to be a morally reprehensible stance to take so I'm gonna make my opinions on ai abundantly clear before I go and block these people. Unfortunately some of you have been longtime supporters of this blog, but them's the breaks ain't it?

AI is not, can not, and will never be a means to create true and genuine art. Art can only come from true and authentic humanity and that can come from ANY human, regardless of their perceived skill level

Defending AI as a tool for "disabled people" is in of itself ableist. Disabled individuals create art all the time through their own means and to act as if they cannot create true and genuine art BECAUSE of their disability is nothing more than ableism

I do not support ANY form of generative AI. Do not come at me with the "I bet you use chatgpt or character.ai" shit because I don't. I've been drawing and writing since I was a child and I do not need a machine to horribly emulate humanity for me

YOU ARE NOT ENTITLED TO EVERY SINGLE THING YOU WANT. AI steals from artists, steals from our planet, and is being used to rob artists of jobs in order to sustain their own livelihoods. If you refuse to learn how to develop the skill it takes to get the kind of art you want or refuse to pay an artist in order to get that art then you. do. not. deserve. it.

Saying that AI makes art accessible to poor people is WRONG and poor people are not entitled just because of their monetary situations. I am ALSO a poor artist and I learned to draw with dollar store markers, school pencils, and the ol' "stick and dirt on ground" method.

If you rely on AI you will never be an artist and you will never be a writer. If that makes you feel bad then good, you should feel bad for it

I will not budge on any of these opinions and this post is not an invitation for discussion. This is me stating my mind and telling you that if you have a problem with me after this then maybe you should reconsider following this blog.
