Just here to say I was here before it becomes one of the biggest cartoons of the year. There was so much heart, thought, and creativity put into this show. The animation is gorgeous and deserves to be recognized for the absolute work put into it. Once it was removed from amc the anger i felt not being able to watch this show anymore without using illegal websites filled me with a hole in my heart for something that was as great as this show. The character development, lore and ideological concepts explored have never intrigued me as much as this show. So if you haven’t already planned to give it a watch on Friday on Netflix I implore you to. One story of many twists and turns with many great payouts. If you like sci fi and want to support more adult animation this is the show to watch.

Pantheon has two completed seasons which has an ending that will keep you onto your seats until the end.

Plot summary with slight spoilers if you are intrigued: (better to go in blind)

In a world of advanced technology a new form of intelligence arises. This is called uploaded intelligence. With UI they can keep a persons legacy and brain forever. Imagine if Einstein was uploaded what impacts could that make on the world?

Meanwhile bullied teen Maddie begins receiving messages from a mysterious stranger that claims to be her recently deceased father, David; his consciousness has been uploaded to the cloud after an experimental brain scan, and it turns out he's not the only one.

So Netflix is releasing this animated movie but here’s the thing - all backgrounds are done in AI. No actual BG artists were hired or credited for this work. 

And here’s the kicker - I gave them too much credit. I realized that not even the AI users are credited apparently. 

Check this out:

“+Human”. No names, no nothing. 

I know it’s tempting, but please don’t hate-watch this thing. Numbers equal profit even if the people watching are just doing it to mock. Don’t give Netflix and other studios even more incentive to fire more animators and replace them with machines trained on their work and skill. Hilariously, the excuse used is ‘there aren’t enough artists’. That’s not true - there are more than enough artists, but the real issue is that no one wants to pay a living wage. Here’s a short video about the reality of animation in Japan. 

The biggest winners in this equation at the end of the day are the AI infrastructure owners - owners of Midjourney, Stable Diffusion, etc. Do not feed this machine, it creates more monopolization of entire industries, raises a powerful few and dehumanizes the rest.

Netflix obviously used AI to expand this Arcane promotional poster. They could have easily hired an artist to do this. This is very disappointing and even disrespectful to the artists who made this poster if they weren’t aware that AI was going to be used on their work.

Okay y'all I've regained strength.

Idk what it is about me creating these blogs. On the one hand: It's so damn fun, like writing into a digital idea board/diary thing that anyone can see. On the other hand, anyone can see it. And holy. Even as a certified cringy individual it's sometimes too much to bear.

🥹 this brings me so much joy to compare. They did bro too dirty with the original excuse of a painting. Like, no offence to whoever made it, but it's THE Once-ler, for crying out loud. It's his ridiculously massive and pretentious painting set on a random hallway of his factory, like the greedy, smug show-off he was (I sincerely doubt that 1972-ler would hang a massive painting of himself.)

Update! A kind soul over on twitter let me know that there are pretty reliable AI art checkers online, that have been developed by people specialising in AI and machine learning!

An NYT article also talks about the pros and cons of a number of them.

I tested all the 3 free open access sites (Illuminarty, Optic AI or Not, Umm-Maybe) and only Illuminarty and Optic AI or Not gave consistent results on both art and photographs.

I'll put the links below so anyone can go and check for whichever art they want to (download the original images from tumblr posts, and upload them)

These are the results :

Optic flagged it as AI immediately.

But Illuminarty had very interesting aspect : when I uploaded the full image, AI probability was 10%. but, on cropping out the bottom of the image (jacket) the probability jumped to 73.9%

This is consistent with my original comment on the art here

My limited understanding of these programs indicate that they scan the entire image including all the individual pixels. AI programs like Stable Diffusion, Mid Journey, DallE all leave signal artifacts when they process an image, which is then left on the final pic generated!

Compare these two @/skykashi original arts, that are immediately flagged as human made.

And now I get to my favourite AI art bro in the fandom @madasama! I commend you for admitting that you not only use AI, but are proud of producing a large number of "real" arts in such a short time!

Remember Glaze, the tool you can use to cloak your art and protect it from being scraped by AI?

There’s another tool out now, and it’s called Mist. From what’s written and what people are saying, it requires less processing power than Glaze and is faster. And apparently, it leaves less artifacts on flat artstyles (like mine).

sounds like a crazy Bolt TV show episode plot but sadly it's happening in real life, with severe and damaging effects on the careers and lives of real artists and creatives everywhere. unemployment rates in the art and animation industry are at an all time low, because some dumb CEO thinks it's easier to type up a silly little sentence and get a scary looking half baked rendition of what thousands of real humans are able to make flawlessly, with much better results.
