i really do love how trans the themes of orv are. orv really said you will have to face a loss of autonomy and control that is completely horrifying and people will try and push stories and roles that don't fit onto you in order to better catergorize you and you will grow up with this gigantic wall between the rest of you and humanity. and the only way to escape any of it is to partake in the art of creation and scribble over what was already written to begin writing your own story (your own self). which is only for you. and this is what being trans is like as well!

Following up to my Haurchefant post (and continuing this rabbit hole I've fallen down), Zenos is the exact opposite.

Haurchefant sees you as a hero regardless of anything you may have done. He sees all the good in you.

Zenos sees all the "bad". He sees the parts of you that enjoy battle. The parts of you that kind of like the chaos. He sees the adventurer inside of you that's constantly pushing forward, hungry for new challenges even after the last ones threatened to destroy you and everyone you love.

Unlike Haurchefant he doesn't care for the good in you. He doesn't care if your role is hero or villain. But like Haurchefant, his interest and respect in you has absolutely nothing to do with your accomplishments or how you can serve a greater cause. Zenos' interest is purely in you.

Haurchefant and Zenos might be the only two who see you not as the Warrior of Light, but as the person you are, for better or worse.

And they BOTH die. The two people who saw past your title and to the core of your being leave you behind. And that's why I think, while Zenos was selfish, childish, and dangerous, it probably really hurt the WoL to lose him too.
