okokaaayyyy i was tagged by both @soupbtch and @oatmilktruther to talk about my favorite fics of mine. i'm going to attempt to talk about not just ofmd things but i do feel that my best writing has been done for ofmd. yay.

first: like your heart's a pomegranate. my sweet cannibalism baby. written in about three hysterical weeks. it felt like i couldn't get the words out fast enough. i wrote and wrote and wrote and am still satisfied with the outcome, though i was just getting started re: the development of my voices for them. i should also mention the other fics in the series: a perfect commotion of silk and linen (my silly "sexting" fic) and won't set my sights on other seas (my wedding ring shopping fic)

second (or fourth?): honey, i laugh when it sinks in which is maybe my most ridiculous fic but it holds such a special place in my heart. i think the characterization is really strong in there. and the ed voice is maybe my strongest in my opinion.

third: laughing aloud at the spinning stars, which is my trans boreo goldfinch fic haha. i really love this one! not my most popular goldfinch fic by FAR but definitely the most important one to me. that was the longest fic i'd ever written for a while.

fourth: hold your tongue, my clowntown fic. somehow my only published reddie despite all of the writing i did for them in my notes app. i love them. this was posted over several years because i couldn't get the story pinned down. but yeah. i finished it this month. lmao. super strong characterization in my not so humble opinion.

fifth: the and so it goes, and so it goes, and you're the only one who knows series. IPRE era taz balance actually killed me and made me crazy so i wrote a series of billy joel titled fics that are still really important to me even though they're not my strongest writing.

sixth: maybe recency bias but i think that You may ask yourself, "What is that beautiful house?" my longlegs fic is really good. it fulfilled a desire to write something so dismal and bleak for me that i can't not include it in this list. yay!

A plea for more queer TAZ characters

Since it's pride month i've decide to post my plea for more queer TAZ characters. I think about this around once every week, and i'm pretty sure my friends are tired of me talking about this so I will talk about it on here instead. I always loved the queer characters in TAZ (Lup is an icon) but there seems to be a reasonable decline in queer PCs and NPCs lately. Of course Balance had a ton, so did Amnesty, i'm not aware of any queer PCs or NPCs in Graduation aside from Fiztroy, and Ethersea is a bit up in the air. In my opinion there was definitely some best friends-to-lovers energy coming from Amber and Okasana/Koderia but nothing was said by the Justin or Griffin so it's probably my ships getting in the way of things. I know a lot of people headcannoned Devo as trans in Ethersea which is definitely a possibility but there was still no conformation of this. I think a lot of The Adventure Zone's fanbase would appreciate some more queer characters. As a queer person myself I always enjoyed the representation in The Adventure Zone and hope that Steeplechase has some canon queer characters not just head canons.

i should preface this by saying that i dont think shes like. a bad person. and i dont have some secret knowledge of problematique things shes done that we should all Cancel her for.

tl;dr i just think her videos are really bad. she keeps making videos about stuff that i was there for and then being wrong about them, and it drives me crazy. on top of that, it just rubs me the wrong way to make your whole brand "the lady who talks about tumblr"

like, i think her homestuck video sucks (and i think its very funny that she admitted that she only spent a week making it, but ALSO got really defensive when people said she was wrong about stuff. like, i think the way whatpumpkin and andrew hussie responded to her video was Bad but also that doesnt retroactively defend the original video from being poorly researched and, in my opinion, in bad taste. it was weird to make a video where you talk about all the controversy about hs^2 not that long after the whole project got cancelled because too many of the trans women working on it were receiving daily death threats)

and i think the mcelroys video sucks (that was the last one i watched before i gave up entirely. its really long and very boring, and basically is just her listing a bunch of stuff they did that people had problems with, which essentially puts "travis was annoying on twitch" on the same level of seriousness as "taz: graduation used a lot of harmful native american stereotypes". i genuinely am not sure what the point of this video was supposed to be, because it feels like its her reading a tumblr callout post. also she was wrong about taz: amnesty. the ending WAS foreshadowed, it did NOT come out of nowhere, she just wasnt paying attention.)

but the onceler fandom video is honestly the absolute pits. i am still friends with a lot of the people that i was in the onceler fandom with, and i genuinely havent met a single former onceslut who thought her video was good, or the least bit accurate. her thesis basically boils down to that the onceler fandom was just a bunch of young teen girls projecting fantasies onto a nonthreating decently attractive fictional guy, which isnt that weird and people are only making a big thing about it because they hate teenage girls. and her conclusions arent WRONG, per say, since people DO hate teen girls and this is a thing theyre known to do... its just. thats literally not what the onceler fandom was at all?? first off, when i got into it i was 17 and i was the youngest person i knew by far. almost everyone i saw in the fandom were in their 20s, and a lot of them were not girls at all. and as far as any of US remember, the thing sustained the fandom wasnt 13 year old girls exploring their nascent sexualities, it was people using the barest pretense to make OCs, and then craft stories with and about their friends OCs. it was a really cool unique experience because it was a fandom for the things the fandom built. a lot of the people i knew had never watched the movie The Lorax at all, or didnt really care about it one way or another, but DID get really invested in the dynamic between Swag and One, or got really invested in the two big AUs the fandom had. By the time i got there, most people had kinda moved away from the canon onceler anyway, and were focused almost exclusively on the AUs (there was a high school AU and a zombie apocalypse AU, and then during the summer the high school AU blogs would do a child summer camp AU. i liked the zombie one best because i love melodrama, but the high school one was most popular). i know she was IN the onceler fandom (allegedly...) but as far as i can tell, she was just there at the very start, because it changed WILDLY even just a few months after its inception. and there's no way anyone who saw the fandom that I was actually in would make the sweeping statements about it that she did.

broadly, her videos are too unfocused and not really well-written. her one on Oppa Homeless Style was a genuinely good video!! I know she CAN do good videos!! But so many of her more fandom-focused videos dont really seem to have a thesis beyond "this happened" or maybe even "this was kinda weird right?". like what is the viewer supposed to take away from the video about the mcleroys? that they made a podcast that was really popular and then got less popular? why did that take you TWO HOURS to say? and even when she does have a strong thesis, its always muddied by the fact that she feels compelled to add in really long, boring digressions. I think the video about All or Nothing was good, and made an interesting point about how pan and ace people are really starved for meaningful rep, but i dont understand why she felt compelled to recount the entire plot of the webseries someone made? what did that contribute to the thesis? its like shes reading a wikipedia page, and not like. an actual ESSAY. that someone structured to convey a POINT.

but overall i just take umbrage with her whole "tumblr historian" shtick. i think its kind of gross to put really niche (generally woman-dominated) subcultures on display so people can come gawk at the freaks. ive heard the defense that "she IS a fandom person!! these videos are FOR fandom people!!" but 1. if its supposedly supposed to be for me and NOT an audience of people unfamiliar with the thing shes talking about, then there would be no need to spend so long explaining what everything is, and 2. i can at least say, in my own subjective experience, that i said basically all this to my sister, who told me that thats why she likes sarah z at all, because the videos let her come gawk at all the fandom freaks on tumblr. so its cool that sarah z is giving the person who bullied me my whole life (specifically because the way i engaged with media was too cringe) more reasons to bully me for being cringe. big preesh sarah. glad youre making money off of the free content all of us put out, and even more glad that youre profiting by taking all that free content and presenting it to a largely hostile and judgemental audience who already thinks im a fucking idiot. why dont you make a video about my popular hamlet post next, since you seem to make videos exclusively about things i did.

anyway if i want to watch video essays about fandom, i'll watch princess weekes, whose videos are substantive and not... idk very juvenile. not that i think there cant be more than one youtuber talking about fandom!!! its just that sarah z's videos are mid at best and actively bad at worst, so im not gonna bother.

(all that being said, i occasionally look at her blog and reblog stuff. while shes working down in the tumblr mines looking for content to steal, she does frequently find some decent posts to reblog)

yeah so hi i deliberately stayed up until 7am on a work night in order to watch this and do not regret a thing.

-> splat3 dlc looks cool!! will i play it? no. does it look cool as hell? yeah!!! I personally don't like splat3's actual single player campaign so unless im able to access the dlc without finishing the main campaign then... im not playing it lmao. it looks cool as fuck though!! i like whatever the hell they had going on with the glitchy taz hunger looking goop that produced skeleton fish. pearl + marina lore is also a win in my book -> i dont actually have all that many thoughts about the smrpg showcase but MAN it looks cool as hell. at first i didnt like the revamped graphics but now theyre growing on me.... plus the trio attacks??? HELL YEA! i hope the remake will make me actually finish the game this time around instead of start it twice in the past three years and then quit within the first few areas (<- i say as if this isnt a normal problem i have regardless. thanks, its the adhd)

I was laying there in bed at 7:40am and was like. oh cool one last thing before its over. its probably gonna be just another title release of something or a sneak peek on some dlc.

and then i hear the music.

THAT NOSTALGIC MUSIC THAT MAKES ME FEEL LIKE IM SEVEN YEARS OLD AGAIN

-> yeah anyway so i screamed "WHAT!?" at the (metaphorical) top of my lungs (because it was 7:40am and people were sleeping). ttyd getting a remaster is so so cool. and now that i know its possibly getting a re translation that makes me even more happy. give us trans vivian....... i also just think its very funny that ive been playing ttyd on twitch for the past. year now? (ive taken a shit ton of breaks) and theyre making a remaster?? now? not complaining im having a blast playing it with my cohost but HHADGHGAKDFJ

-> i'm mostly just excited for the remaster cause it'll hopefully bring traction back to the paper mario series. idk about like the general consensus of the fandom but like. the paper mario series has been needing a pick me up for a HOT MINUTE.

-> no i am not going to play the remaster of ttyd for stream. maybe on my own time. we'll see. i dont see the point of finishing the og only to then, like a year later, play the remaster. especially when i have a TON of games backlogged on my list since i only stream once a week. more often than not, not even that. i am planning on doing rpg tho

quite literally nobody asked for this and it's a very niche crossover but this is what i think the spicy six's favourite aew wrestlers are/what each one's relationship is with wrestling

apologies in advance, i got really into writinig these lol.

starting off with the person who i think really got a lot of them into wrestling, robin. i like to think her whole sexuality awakening happened after she couldn't sleep one night, she tried to sneak downstairs to get herself a snack but her dad was up late watching wwe. transfixed by the female wrestlers on the screen, her dad thankfully mistook it for an interest in the sport and started letting her stay up late on wwe nights to teach her all about wrestling - the moves, the lore, the trickery of performance. she does end up loving the technical side of things soon enough, her and her dad go to a lot of indie matches together. she started watching aew when cm punk returned, but her favourite very quickly became nyla rose, especially when she learned about nyla being the first openly trans wrestler in the american pro circuit.

nancy initially doesn't take an interest in wrestling when robin starts trying to teach her about it. she thinks that it's all staged and she doesn't understand how people can believe that it's real. then one night she walks into the room to see robin watching dr britt baker, d.m.d. nancy asks robin isn't it misleading to tell people she's a doctor? robin explains that britt baker is an actively practicing dentist who also happens to show up and wrestle 1-3 times a week. nancy starts taking an interest in britt's fighting style specifically - something about being someone who helps others in need by day and a badass who throws people around at night is nancy's dream. nancy doing so is also robin's dream, but a very different kind. robin finds it hilarious when nancy starts cheering for specific moves, ooh-ing when moves look and sound especially painful, and continuing to watch long after britt's matches have ended.

eddie is also a wrestling sceptic, but for a different reason. he doesn't understand how people can watch something where the entire premise is grown men in skimpy outfits putting their hands all over each other and take it seriously. enter the obvious favourite for eddie: danhausen. eddie completely embodies that chaotic little gremlin man. he runs around doing the t-rex hands and the stare, 'cursing' everyone that defies him. he makes 'very nice' and 'very evil' patches that he puts on each side of his vest. steve draws the line at eddie trying to recreate danhausen's face paint, but he does find it funny when eddie shouts "send hook!" at him as he gets a bag of chips thrown at his face. he starts letting robin teach him about other wrestlers' backstories, feuds etc and he gets super invested. robin starts noticing some familiar-sounding lore from the npcs in eddie's dnd campaigns, but she doesn't call him out on it, she's just happy he's taking an interest.

steve certainly has a soft spot for hook, not just for the hookhausen parallel but also the whole legacy of hook being taz's kid, his commitment to the bit of being silent and stoic (aside from with danhausen ofc), his overall performance. but above all else, steve loves watching mjf. it started off with robin excitedly telling him about the cm punk/mjf rivalry, and he'd happily listen to her ramble and he'd watch with her if they were hanging out together, but he never went out of his way to watch it. apart from the dog collar match, of course. he offered to cover that pay-per-view, which robin had to really fight herself not to tease him about. robin's interest in mjf dwindles after his rivalry with cm punk, but steve gets really into the mjf/wardlow arc. he watches every episode of dynamite and rampage, and every ppv, just in the hopes for crumbs in their development.

jonathan has been into wrestling for pretty much his whole life. will even says he used to take inspiration from characters he and jonathan would make up, but jonathan's characters would always be wrestling personas he always wished he could perform as someday. jonathan prefers the indie circuit most of all, he isn't so keen on how wwe operate, but he watches njpw and aew religiously and, more importantly, silently. one day, when robin's telling the group about the bullet club, she gets hangman adam page and adam cole mixed up. jonathan quietly corrects her and her jaw drops. she starts shouting at and shaking him asking why he never told her sooner, which nancy soon puts a stop to, reminding robin that she's gonna scare him off. they chat away for hours over it, none of them have seen jonathan talk this animatedly about anything and steve jokes that none of them would have gotten dragged into being wrestling fans if this had all happened sooner. jonathan's all-time favourite pro is kenny omega, but he's pleased to see cesaro claudio castagnoli out of wwe, too.

argyle just kinda passively watches any wrestling that jonathan does, he isn't especially into any particular feuds or backstories, sometimes he asks jonathan what certain moves are called or whether he's seen this wrestler fight another that he happens to know the name of. however, whenever willow nightingale is on the screen, argyle is hyp. no. tised. no strain of weed has ever rendered him as incapacitated as watching her. the others start making a game out of what they can do to mess with argyle for as long as she's fighting. jonathan brags one time about how he'd saved up to go watch an indie show in new york and so he'd actually watched her perform live and argyle still asks him about it.

2023 fic roundup

thank you so much to @purgeshubble for the tag!! it's been a slow fucking year but I published 10,917 words. My stats seem to decrease exponentially every year but I don't really mind because I started my ao3 account in 10th grade and definitely made a shift in like 2021 from writing kind of shitty fic that took me a short amount of time for huge fandoms (stranger things lmfao) to writing better-crafted, more time-consuming fics for unpopular fandoms that I care much more deeply about!

I only published 6 fics this year but here they are!!

January: Neptune Drowns His Children Veronica Mars; Kendall & Dick Post Not-Pictured, Kendall takes charge. Wrote this one in the midst of my crazy girl once-again-thinking-about-Cassidy-Casabalancas VM rewatch era and it shows!!

February: the way i love the ocean Keeper of the Lost Cities; queerplatonic Dex & Keefe Dex & Keefe talk about love. Dipped my toe back into the fandom for KOTLC aro week and am so glad I did! Aro Dex was such a revelation that I needed to write something down and this was a wonderful reason to do so!

April: Version of Love The Adventure Zone: Balance; aroace Lucretia & aspects Magnus Lucretia & Magnus talk about love (are you sensing a theme here?) Of the many Lucretia thoughts that rattled around my brain during my first listen through of TAZ Balance, these were the only ones that I could put into words!! she's aro <3

June: making yourself up as you go along The Adventure Zone: Amnesty; trans Duck Duck Newton grows up. this was so very fun to write!! I should think about amnesty more tbh.

Only 74% of voters were TAZ fans! Thus, I've recalculated the results as if only TAZ fans had voted, so we can see the real percentages. (I really wish tumblr gave us some decimal points or exact counts, but alas...! I've rounded these calculations to the nearest whole as well, since they won't be exact in the first place.)

This means approximately 1,488 TAZ voters!

About 12% of polled TAZ fans did not headcanon any of these characters as trans. The rest are approximately as follows:

Hi! I run a public Discord server for D&D and basically and TTRPG one might want to play! The server is LGBT+/Nonbinary friendly, and is open for new and old players, people who DM and need a place to run their games, or anyone looking for a game to play! It’s 100% not limited to D&D, and you can play basically anything you want to there. It’s also not limited to LGBT/NB people, but I made it specifically with them in mind!

Have a game you want to DM but no players? Come find some! Need a place to host a game for you and your friends that is all set up and modded? Hello!
