'The Tata Group, through its subsidiary Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL), has also been closely involved with Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) since at least 2008.
When the two companies signed a landmark agreement in 2008, Itzhak Nissan, IAI president and chief executive officer, described the memorandum of understanding to produce a wide range of defence products as reflecting "IAI's evolving relationship with India and with the Indian industries".
Since normalising ties with Israel in 1992, India has become a significant patron of Israeli technology, spanning sectors such as defence, agriculture, cybersecurity, and water preservation.
Although this partnership is often seen as the work of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Indian weapons companies, tech firms and universities began strengthening ties with Israel well before Modi’s rise to power.
Over the past decade, Indian-Israeli military ties have reached unprecedented levels, with Indian companies, purchasing upwards of 46 percent of Israeli weapons and co-manufacturing them in factories across the country.
Salam said the Tata Group not only supplies Israel with electronics and weapon components but also sells Land Rovers that are turned into armoured vehicles for use in "the occupied Palestinian territory for patrol, reconnaissance and combat".
The Tata Group owns Jaguar Land Rover Automotive PLC, which manufactures the vehicle.'

Airbus Nearing Decision on H125 Helicopter Assembly Site in India
Airbus Helicopters is close to finalizing the location for its new final assembly line (FAL) in India, intended for the H125 helicopter. Eight potential sites are currently under evaluation, according to top Airbus Helicopters officials.
Expansion Plans in India
The proposed FAL, a collaboration between Airbus Helicopters and Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL), aims to meet the growing demand in India and South Asia. The decision on the location is expected soon, with the groundbreaking ceremony planned for late 2024 and the first H125 helicopter rolling out by 2026.
Olivier Michalon, Executive Vice President Global Business of Airbus Helicopters, emphasized that the final decision will consider factors like employee attractiveness, industrial activity, logistics, and regulations. “We are still in the final assessment stage but stay tuned, we should be in a position to announce shortly,” Michalon told reporters at Airbus Helicopters’ headquarters in Marignane, near Marseille.
Strategic Partnership
This FAL will be the first in the private sector in India, marking a significant milestone for Airbus and TASL. It follows the announcement made on India’s Republic Day during the French President Emmanuel Macron’s state visit to India. This is the second aircraft FAL by Airbus and TASL, with the first being the C295 military aircraft FAL in Vadodara.
Production Capacity and Future Prospects
Initially, the India FAL will have an annual production capacity of 10 H125 helicopters. Currently, the H125 is manufactured at Airbus Helicopters’ headquarters in Marignane, as well as in the US and Brazil. Although starting with a modest production capacity, Michalon mentioned the potential for significant expansion based on market demand. “Starting from scratch, it is not negligible. It could very well be 20, 30, or 50 in some years,” he noted.
Market Potential in India
India’s civil helicopter market, while currently small, holds immense potential due to its large population and economic growth. Airbus anticipates that producing the H125 in India will boost the usage of helicopters across various sectors.
Sunny Guglani, Head of Airbus Helicopters South Asia, highlighted the flexibility to ramp up production in response to demand. He cited a projected demand for 500 H125 class helicopters in India and neighboring countries over the next 20 years. “We have approximately 140 Airbus Helicopters in the region, with 100 in India alone,” Guglani stated, noting Airbus’s 40% market share in civil and para-public helicopters in the region.
Broader Implications
Michalon described the current market as “embryonic” but ripe for expansion. He pointed out that India’s growing middle and upper classes will drive demand for various services, including emergency medical services, law enforcement, firefighting, and disaster management. “We had two possibilities: either we wait for the sky to fully open, or we demonstrate our trust and the recognition of the potential of India and be ready to invest,” Michalon explained.
The H125, known for its versatility in missions like emergency medical services, law enforcement, and aerial work, is well-suited to meet India’s diverse needs. With around 7,200 H125 helicopters in operation worldwide, it is one of Airbus Helicopters’ most popular models.
Looking Ahead
Although smaller in scale, the H125 FAL in India will adhere to the same processes and standards as Airbus’s flagship facility in Marignane. The helicopters produced will carry the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) certification and will be competitively priced. Airbus is confident that this strategic move will enhance its global footprint and address the growing demand in the South Asian region.
In conclusion, Airbus’s decision to establish an H125 FAL in India is a testament to the country’s potential as a major hub for helicopter manufacturing and use. Stay tuned for the official announcement of the site location, which promises to be a significant development in the aerospace industry.

Introducing F-21: The Latest 4th Generation Fighter Plane from Lockheed Martin
Lockheed Martin F-21
Taking its game forward, Lockheed Martin has proposed an improved version of the popular F-16 at Aero India 2019 called the F-21 and claims it will be the most advanced, 4th generation Fighter Aircraft in the world.
Lockheed Martin had earlier offered its F-16 has claimed that the F-21 will be specifically configured for the Indian Air Force and will strengthen India’s path to an advanced airpower future.
An option for new production, the F-21 will have a slew of the latest state of the art technological advancements and improvements that include a new radar system, stealth detection capabilities, and electronics design that add a lot of value to the already iconic aircraft.
F-21 will be based on a proven platform, with a new branding
TATA-Lockheed Martin F-21
“The F-21 is different, inside and out,” said Vivek Lall, vice president of Strategy and Business Development for Lockheed Martin Aeronautics.
Lockheed Martin has long said it plans to shift its F-16 production lines to India in cooperation with Tata. It has gone so far as to suggest it could establish an F-16 production line in the country regardless of whether it wins the MRCA deal or not.
For years, Lockheed Martin has been lobbying India for MMRCA contract in excess of 100 fighter jets. India traditionally bought its defence technology from and Russia, but recently, it has been buying American military technology, including the P-8 Poseidon and AH-64 Apache attack helicopter.
Now that there is a difficult competition between Lockheed Martin’s F-16, Boeing’s F/A-18E/F Super Hornet, the Swedish Gripen, French Rafale, European Eurofighter Typhoon, and Russian MiG-35. Lockheed Martin had to increase the stakes.
F-21 will be nimble, carry decent ordnance, and have lower costs to maintain
Weapon Systems of Lockheed Martin F-21
The F-21 will incorporate an upgraded mission computer, a state of the art avionics and includes multi-function displays. With a Central, Pedestal Display will help improve the crew’s situational awareness through Real-Time processing of the flight data.
In addition, the F-21 will also come with an upgradable display generator, a link-16 data link, HF/UHH/VHF multiple frequency radio communication support as well as IFF (identification friend or foe) enhancements.
The three original computers will be replaced with a single modular mission computer which provides far higher computing power to the avionics and weapons systems in addition to providing accurate targeting, air to air strike performances and information capabilities.
According to Lockheed Martin, the F-21 will be capable of providing affordable and scalable advanced combat capabilities through its Active Electronically Scanned Array radar. The Central Pedestal Display also provides a high-resolution display with colour maps, zoom functionality and Night vision systems, thereby helping to keep the aircraft in an enhanced state of Battle Awareness.
The Aircraft will also be capable of integration with the FLIR laser system and navigation as well as reconnaissance pods. The F-21 is also upgraded with state of the art threat warning systems, jammers, electronic countermeasure equipment pods and chaff and infrared flare dispensers to take care of complex and varied battlefield situations.
What will be the future of F-21?
As of now, the F-21 is just a concept. The F-21 will be tailor-made to meet the requirements of the Indian Airforce and will be a 4.5+ generation fighter if the company wins the estimated $18-billion order for the 115 planes.
Officially known as the “Fighting Falcon” commonly known as the Viper by pilots and crew, The F-16 is one of the most renowned and battle-tested supersonic fighter aircraft in the world. This single engine, multirole aircraft developed by Lockheed Martin (formerly General Dynamics), was developed originally for the United States Air Force and is now regarded as the most successful all-weather multirole fighter aircraft.
Entering into production almost four decades back in 1976, more than 4500 F-16 aircraft have been built and although no more bought by the United States Air Force, improved versions are being built for various export customers.
