I have no idea where the idea of Batman's "no metas in Gotham" rule came from, but I think it's dumb as a concept. first of all what do you think Duke is? second of all Black Canary is on the Birds of Prey, and they operate in Gotham all the time no problem. third of all that's a dumb and unenforceable rule.

What's infinitely more reasonable is that Bruce doesn't like powered heroes popping into Gotham without supervision because there is so much going on with the rogues that could mess with them. Like yeah, Superman's cool, but has Superman ever been on fear toxin? Do you want to be the one who finds out what that's like? Poison Ivy has a lot of weird stuff in her pollens, do you want to be the first person to witness Wonder Woman on them? Flash? Green Lantern? He isn't a meta technically, but he's got powers through his ring and I doubt he'll be much better than the rest of them.

Bruce can't ban metas from entering the city, that's stupid and discriminatory and also countered by many, many comics. Bruce can, however, strongly discourage his friends, allies, teammates, and his kids' friends & teammates from messing around unattended for their safety. Gotham sucks. Gotham is terrible. Gotham can mess you up. Having powers doesn't make you immune to Gotham. If anything, it makes you more susceptible.

My high school did a yearly poetry recitation contest (Poetry Out Loud), so Oh Boy do I know some poems. My favorites are Ozymandias and "the world is about to end and my grandparents are in love," by Kara Jackson. Also in 8th grade we had a Poe unit and had a class contest to make the best music video of the Raven, so I still know a good chunk of that.

i hadn't heard of the kara jackson one! just read through it and enjoyed it, particularly these lines > 'grandma returns to her love like a hymn, marks it with a color. // when the world ends will it suck the earth of all its love? /will i go taking somebody’s hand, / my skin becoming their skin?'

I've been out all day at a reptile expo that was.... admittedly not great, and I get home to find my vet has emailed me without prompting. Worried because ??? why would my VET email me unprompted, the last time they did that was years ago and it was because birds someone had purchased from me caught tuberculosis of all things, and they were concerned it came from my birds (it did not!).

And it was not My vet, it was the other vet at my vet's practice, asking me if I knew of anyone that rents peafowl for weddings. Like to just have out at a wedding.

My response was a 6-paragraph dissertation to pose the question "are you out of your goddamn mind?" as politely as I could.

#peafowl #experienced all 5 stages of grief between seeing the email #and loading it #only to repeat all 5 stages immediately afterward #they're a wild game bird #even if someone was willing to risk the stress and potential for injury or illness #where are you going to find someone DURING BREEDING SEASON #willing to rent you either a male hopped up on breeding hormones #who's pissed or terrified about being moved #or a hen that's laying and could stress herself into being eggbound #or at best stress herself into stopping laying for them #and that's counting on her not raising babies currently #where are you gonna find someone INSURED to have their birds out #are YOU going to pay the bill if someone tries to sue them #for a guest taking a spur to the face #if they bother a bird?#cause I sure as hell am not taking that risk even with nicest birds #like not even artemis who is too stupid to panic or attack anyone #wouldn't tolerate a /wedding/#anyway I am too tired for this
