Britain's Outlaws: Highwaymen, Pirates and Rogues
"3-part BBC documentary series. Few figures in British history have captured the popular imagination as much as the outlaw. From gentleman highwaymen, via swashbuckling pirates to elusive urban thieves and rogues, the brazen escapades and the flamboyance of the outlaw made them the antihero of their time - feared by the rich, admired by the poor and celebrated by writers and artists. In this three-part series, historian Dr Sam Willis ... shows that, far from being 'outsiders', outlaws were very much a product of their time, shaped by powerful national events."
Episode 1 - Knights of the Road: The Highwayman's Story
"In 1714, Captain Alexander Smith's book The Complete History of the Lives and Robberies of the Most Notorious Highwaymen caused a sensation. It set the bar for colourful and slightly dubious accounts of the big names in highway robbery. But whilst the public might find them romantic, the elite weren't so keen. They represented a threat to the social order: not only were they attacking property with impunity without any regard to the rank of their victims, but the robberies were giving them wealth and pretensions of status.
To satirists, there was a delicious irony to the howls of outrage about highwaymen. For them, politicians in the Georgian government were even worse thieves. In 1728, John Gay penned The Beggar's Opera, using a highwayman called Macheath as a central character in his stage satire. Macheath was the theatrical incarnation of the gentleman robber, but he wasn't the villain of the peace. He was moral, he was noble, and it was set against the rapaciousness of the elite. His character was used to dissect the hypocrisy of the ruling classes, who were losing more at the gambling tables than they were on the roads. Then there was the corruption. In John Gay's eyes, highwaymen were more honest thieves than the government. The ruling class were committing robberies of their own, but they were getting away with it. Prime Minister Robert Walpole spirited away thousands of pounds, and when the Chancellor, the Earl of Macclesfield, took a hundred thousand pounds in bribes, all he got was a fine."

In 2016, 22 reckless swifties decided to go on an adventure. Only 11 of them made it to the swiftie summer camp, the other 11 disappeared magically aka didn’t come.
We had the time of our lives those 3 days
On the first day we all met at the camp like “nice to meet you, where you’ve been ?“, we introduced ourselves to each other and after like 12 minutes we already sang @taylorswift greatest hits together - we all went to bed early that day, because we were DEAD
On day 2 we all got up early for a swift movie (you see what I did here ? Haha) we actually watched journey to fearless and the Speak Now Tour DVD while we were crafting bracelets and coffee cups (some people decided to go on a pokemon hunt, not telling any names here …. Dominic) and at night we sat around the campfire and sang our hearts out.
On day 3 only the bravest went swimming in the lake. It was really cold for June but beer and wine before noon … Well you know what they say “it’ll leave you breathless or with a nasty scar“ At night we had a Taylor themed costume dance Party “it was the best night never would forget how we moved“
Thank you so much for making this possible Taylor we wouldn’t even know each other without you and after 3 days of pure fun we have a group chat and regular sleepovers 💕

The first ever annual Swiftnick in Sweden was held today! I enjoyed meeting new Swedish Swifties so much. We all wore keds and talked about seeing her live. Two girls who attended actually got Loft '89 in Amsterdam! The show I went to. I love being a Swiftie. I'm so proud to be a fan of taylorswift.

Okay. 1. Stop posting your hate in the Hannibloom tag, no Hannibloom fan wants to read about how much you hate it. 2. James Bond is the epitome of heterosexuality so I dunno where the hell you got that from. 3. Most versions of Hannibal Lecter are without any sexuality. 4. Just because Fuller is queer doesn't mean he has to write that character. 5. Will is and to quote Mads "Straight as a nail" so no, Hannibal doesn't desire will sexually and vice versa.
Okay
1. I DIDN’T FUCKING TAG IT HANNIBLOOM. Seriously, go to the tags on the post, ‘hannibloom’ is NOT there. Sometimes things end up in tags without having been tagged that, and vice versa. I don’t know why this happens, but I didn’t fucking tag it. I literally put it under a read more, and the only Hannibal-related tag I even gave it was “hannibal spoilers”.
2. Where I find comfort when I have troubles regarding my sexuality is absolutely none of your business, and trying to invalidate a queer reading of a character when it was specifically brought up as a coping mechanism used by a queer person is unbelievably shitty of you.
3. “Most versions of Hannibal Lecter are without sexuality”???? Pardon me, but where the hell are you getting that? He literally, in the original canon of the books, gets together with Clarice Starling. They become lovers. That’s right there, in the damn canon. Also, “without sexuality” in modern media, is read as “heterosexual”. As evidenced by the fact that you vehemently deny that James Bond could be anything but straight, despite him having no explicitly specified sexuality. Because we’ve only ever seen him sleep with women, it’s assumed that he is straight; congratulations on your heteronormative bullshit.
4. Bryan Fuller has spoken extensively on his attempts to include queer characters in his work and the obstacles he faces from networks. Also, as a member of the queer community, he has intimate knowledge of what it is like to grow up without seeing ourselves in the books, tv shows, and movies we watch. He has already shown that he is conscious of how representation matters by making an effort to include women and characters of colour in Hannibal; the fact that he has not done the same with queer people, despite having tried many times before, is odd. My frustration at the absence of representation of the queer community comes from that conundrum. I understand that Bryan Fuller is not obligated to change or add characters for the sake of representation. Do you understand that specifically avoiding including queer characters is problematic as fuck, especially when the head writer is from our fucking community and has made many attempts to include us in the past?
5. I can actually read a character as queer against the intent of the actor. Shocking, I know. My reading of that character is no less valid. Google “Death of the Author”. I can also wish for a character to be queer, whether or not they are/will be. Funnily enough, that post, which was tagged only as far as it contained spoilers and was under a read more with no prior text, was not a formal list of demands I’m planning to send to the creators of Hannibal.
My post in which I vented about events occurring in the show that upset and frustrated me, sometimes for deeply personal reasons, which for some unknown reason ended up in the ‘hannibloom’ tag, does not warrant this kind of venomous response. Your anger at a post which was specifically made as an unedited explosion of feelings, which, at its core, had much less to do with ‘hannibloom’ and more to do with an individual’s frustrations at a lack of queer representation and lack of follow through from events in that show which heavily implied that a character(s) was queer, is, frankly, gross. You’re gross.
So, since you so kindly invited me to this conversation with a list of spite-fueled statements, I’ll leave you with a nice little ‘fuck you’-fueled question:
Why, precisely,  did you feel the need to contact a queer person, after they expressed their hurt and frustration over queer representation in a show, which affected them very personally, to do nothing other than reprimand them for an event over which they had little to no control and list out statements invalidating their feelings, and, essentially, telling them to shut up, and stop trying to queer everyone up?
Fuck. You.
