Britain's Outlaws: Highwaymen, Pirates and Rogues
"3-part BBC documentary series. Few figures in British history have captured the popular imagination as much as the outlaw. From gentleman highwaymen, via swashbuckling pirates to elusive urban thieves and rogues, the brazen escapades and the flamboyance of the outlaw made them the antihero of their time - feared by the rich, admired by the poor and celebrated by writers and artists. In this three-part series, historian Dr Sam Willis ... shows that, far from being 'outsiders', outlaws were very much a product of their time, shaped by powerful national events."
Episode 1 - Knights of the Road: The Highwayman's Story
"In 1714, Captain Alexander Smith's book The Complete History of the Lives and Robberies of the Most Notorious Highwaymen caused a sensation. It set the bar for colourful and slightly dubious accounts of the big names in highway robbery. But whilst the public might find them romantic, the elite weren't so keen. They represented a threat to the social order: not only were they attacking property with impunity without any regard to the rank of their victims, but the robberies were giving them wealth and pretensions of status.
To satirists, there was a delicious irony to the howls of outrage about highwaymen. For them, politicians in the Georgian government were even worse thieves. In 1728, John Gay penned The Beggar's Opera, using a highwayman called Macheath as a central character in his stage satire. Macheath was the theatrical incarnation of the gentleman robber, but he wasn't the villain of the peace. He was moral, he was noble, and it was set against the rapaciousness of the elite. His character was used to dissect the hypocrisy of the ruling classes, who were losing more at the gambling tables than they were on the roads. Then there was the corruption. In John Gay's eyes, highwaymen were more honest thieves than the government. The ruling class were committing robberies of their own, but they were getting away with it. Prime Minister Robert Walpole spirited away thousands of pounds, and when the Chancellor, the Earl of Macclesfield, took a hundred thousand pounds in bribes, all he got was a fine."

A continuation in the unending saga of fake comics. As always, this Anglo-centric work (written in English) left much out. The fake-comic did not fully engage in a Dutch narrative. Perhaps one day that narrative will be better detailed. 1672 was a critical year for the Dutch, especially their war with France. The African narrative is always something that could use more illumination as this period was what Ira Berlin called the coming of the ‘Plantation Generation’ on the mainland colonies. Previously the majority of the colonies labor depended on white indentured labor with the black population being a small minority. From my understanding, the Barbados plantation system began in legal form around 1660 and the racial-legal system spread to other English speaking colonies.

"Speaking of handsome men who have been cross-mediaized... Claude Duval is also one of them." "This French robber, shaped by novels and poems, is shown as a handsome man who does not like violence and abides by chivalry!" "Gee~ It's amazing how impactful a work of art can be. He is a robber! He is a bad guy, right?"
After asking one of his trivia questions, Wonder and Motoha's literature teacher then brings up Claude Duval out of nowhere (the question's topic was The Tale of the Heike). ("Cross-mediaized" seems to be Google translate's attempt at turning cross-media into a verb.)
Considering 1) he mentions that Claude Duval was a criminal, 2) the fact that the teachers in both P5 and P5X tend to bring up a trivia point about each teammate's Persona at some point, and 3) how otherwise random of a person this is to mention here, this may be a bit of foreshadowing for a future teammate's Persona.
Given he's an actual thief figure (rather than a muse, nymph, or other non-thief deity), Duval is much more likely a story teammate's Persona than a Phantom Idol's Persona II. The two obvious possibilities that come to mind are Enco and Wuhexi; Enco's brief appearance in the opening animation suggests he's a probable story teammate, so he's therefore the more obvious candidate here, but Wuhexi is even more of a mystery, and our only other known future male teammate, so he's possible as well.

Ah, how very kind of him to notice the things around him. Claude loves toying around with men, loves making them walk circles around her. "Tell me, what beautiful things do you see this evening?" Her smile matches his own with an eerie ease.
It's not every day a woman drinks whiskey, and it's an even rarer occurrence that she knows how to drink it correctly. Kieran is intrigued, but not overly so — not enamored, certainly, he tells himself.
He smiles at the woman's concession, looking more pleased than he would let on internally.
Tumblr media
"I find too much time focusing on myself distracts from all the beautiful, wonderful things around me." A wry grin.

I felt very smart starting this list with 'Golden Brown' by The Stranglers and ending with 311's 'Amber'--it's fall colours!! And what leaves think it's fall have turned (there's still plenty that insist they've plenty of time to hold green here). I don't have much to say on this one - it feels like fall, all stops and starts and changes and unexpected blazes.
Related media to some of the songs:
'Música da Lagoa' is a delight I encountered thanks to a Tumblr post, the video of it being played in a river/pond is a joy.
I listened to 'He Needs Me' several times before I realised that before I'd heard The A's perform it I'd first heard it from Shelly Duvall in the 1980 film Popeye. If you've never seen this wild wonder, it looks like it is currently available on both Hoopla and Kanopy in the US, which many library cards give you free access to.
I feel like I've for sure mentioned Centaurworld here, it's a two-season complete story musical animated portal fantasy about a warhorse and it's one of my favourite shows of recent years. If you've got Netflix, it looks like it is still available, which is nice when so many small wonderful shows get shuffled out of libraries too quickly. Anyway, it's got a lot of voice actor joys in it overall, especially if you're a modern musical theatre nerd.
Have I talked about Dead on a Sunday before? The lead singer sounds like Bob from Bob's Burgers and they lean into it sometimes, but also they're just a good emo trash band.
Anyway here's a link to September's playlist on Spotify, with the track list below the cut.
And embedded if you like that:
'Golden Brown' - The Stranglers
'Baby No More' - Anjimile
'Spinning' - Pom Pom Squad
'Dog With A Bone' - Pony Talk
'Dammit (After Dark)' - Dead On A Sunday
'Pamela' - Ellie Bleach
'He Needs Me' - The A's
'The Perfect Dress' - Bart Graft
'Heart Of Glass' - The Surfrajettes
'Dance Hall Days' - Wang Chung
'Take It to Your Grave' - Urban Heat
'I'll Tumble 4 Ya' - Culture Club
'Nunca Volveré A Amar' - Dead On A Sunday
'Here's The Thing' - Fontaines D.C.
'Just What I Needed' - The Cars
'Sacrilege' - Yeah Yeah Yeahs
'Couldn't Get It Right' - Climax Blues Band
'So Destroyed (Channeling Rage Peace)' - Prince Rama
'How Does The Story Go?' - SPRINTS
'Let's Get Creative' - Yo Gabba Gabba
'Fantasy' - Tall Juan
'The Hero of My Story (Comfortable Doug)' - Flula Borg
'Leave It Open' - Kate Bush
'Take Me - Make Me Lose Control' - Carol Douglas
'Soft Spot' - Claud
'Awful' - Hole
'Street Fighter' - Pom Pom Squad
'NEW MOON (DARK PHASE)' - Duran Duran
'Dance Wiv Me - Live At The iTunes Festival / 2013' - Dizzee Rascal

'Amber' - 311

@iworryalotdarling ♥'d for a starter! claudette + simone!
"I have a job in mind for you." Ice clinks against the inside of the glass in Claude's hand, though she's barely sipping it tonight. "Lucrative, pays very well." She had thought of Simone immediately when the job crossed her desk, and she just so happened to see her at a restaurant to frequents. Ever Claude, she seated herself at Simone's table as if she were offered a chair. Unsure about whether or not SImone is still in the game, Claude is taking her chances.
