In Super Mario Advance, if the player character enters a Magical Potion door at the same time as throwing another potion, the door the character is stepping through will unload. This will cause the character to be stuck in place forever, requiring the game to be reset to continue playing.
Note Peach being unable to move while looking away from the screen in the footage.

✨HAPPY MAR10 DAY EVERYONE!✨
Back in 2022, I drew this piece referencing the first Mario game I got when I was a child.
That game being Super Mario Advance, this game alone introduced me to the series as a whole!

Why did Nintendo remake ALTTP on the gba and not Zelda 1???
Like the gba got a remake of the first pokemon games, the first console Kirby game, the first Metroid game, so many remakes of NES classics including Mario 2 and 3 and they probably would have done 1 if not for Deluxe coming out for the GBC…
Then A link to the past- the 3rd Zelda game and not even an NES game?? By far the original Zelda needed an upgrade more than alttp, so that’s always confused me.

I will always find it so confusing why they never included Super Mario Bros. in the Super Mario Advanced games. Like you include Yoshi's Island, which I wouldn't even consider mainline mario, but not the original SMB?? Or even Lost Levels or smth???

A neat observation about the award-winning Nintendo commercial, "School's Out" directed by Anthony Atanasio, also known as the commercial for Super Mario Advance 4: Super Mario Bros. 3:
youtube
The HQ upload above is from the director's official YouTube channel, which is the first time I've seen it. If you've only seen the broadcast/shortened versions though, you probably didn't notice that between this version and the commonly found uploads, the signs have been altered in post.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I always just assumed this commercial was filmed in Japan with how they showed the Tokyo school at the beginning, but now, looking at some of the shots and set pieces, I feel completely dumb that I didn't realize it sooner: this was all filmed in Hong Kong in 2003.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The director's YouTube channel actually has a behind-the-scenes video, and I highly recommend giving it a watch as a fascinating look at the making of an arguably classic Nintendo commercial, especially to me as a Hong Kong citizen!

So in case you were now curious: where does this final scene with the game store take place in?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
...it's this intersection between Matheson Street and Russel Street in Causeway Bay, right next to (the Hong Kong) Times Square.

This is that place today, now occupied by a pharmacy, but still next to a (different) snack stall:

『Super Mario World』 Luigi
Tumblr media
「Super Mario World∶ Super Mario Bros. 4」 (SNES, 1990)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
While Luigi is playable in the original version of Super Mario World, he’s essentially a recolor of Mario. 「Super Mario All-Stars + Super Mario World」 (SNES, 1994)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
In Super Mario All-Stars + Super Mario World, many of Luigi's sprites are redesigned to highlight his physical differences from his older brother. The quirkiest difference in this revised set of sprites has Luigi now spitting fireballs when empowered by the Fire Flower. I don’t believe Luigi or any other character has used the Fire Flower like this since. 「Super Mario World∶ Super Mario Advance 2」 (GBA, 2001)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
In the Gameboy Advance remake/reissue of Mario World, Super Mario World∶ Super Mario Advance 2 (who named these games?!) Luigi’s set of sprites is modified once again. Luigi’s look in this game is like a fusion of his appearance in the original version of Mario World and its revision for the All-Stars collection. Most notably, Luigi no longer spits fire and now flutters his legs when jumping.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The latter attribute originated with Super Mario Bros. 2 and has become a staple of Luigi's repertoire ever since. And just like in SMB2, Luigi is playable in single player without any hassle.
As with many GBA games from this era, the colors look washed out. As a result, this version of SMW is much less vibrant and crisp looking. 「Super Mario Maker 2」 (NS, 2019)
Tumblr media
After I finished my first version of this essay, I stumbled upon some Super Mario Maker 2 sprites and realized that Luigi's SMW sprite was updated once again.
Tumblr media
I can't currently rip sprites and record lossless footage of Nintendo Switch games, so I'll just be posting a comparisons between all of Luigi's SMW sprites.
Tumblr media
@DaNintendoDude on Twitter created this graphic explaining the potential process that might've been used to create Luigi's sprite for Mario Maker 2. 「The Nintendo Gigaleak」 (2018)
Tumblr media
A few years ago, there was a massive leak from Nintendo's internal servers, where among many things, prototype graphics from Super Mario World were discovered--
Tumblr media
Interestingly enough, It appears that Nintendo may have originally intended for Luigi to get his own unique sprites in the original release of Mario World, but was then scrapped in favor of a simple palette swap of Mario.

Super Mario Advance introduces a bizarre, rare object that does not exist in any other version of Super Mario Bros. 2, called the Spark Chaser.
It appears as a ball with a face, and when thrown, will follow the perimeters of the room, destroying all enemies it touches on the way. It can only be found inside bonus jars; as such, many players who do not try to enter every single jar may have played through the entire game without ever encountering a Spark Chaser.
A glitch exists whereby a Spark Chaser can be taken out of a jar, which is not intended to be possible, by using Luigi and performing some damage-boosted jumps to get to the top of a jar while carrying a Spark Chaser. When exiting the jar, it is revealed that outside, the Spark Chaser will turn into a reddish Yoshi Egg. The glitch is purely visual, and the Spark Chaser still functions as intended, with the egg rolling around and killing enemies.
