Many years ago, in a different country, a set of twins were born. In another room, a runaway league of assassin also gave birth to a baby boy.

To punish the runaway, a hit was put on their newborn son. The assassin silently traversed the hospital and grabbed the baby from off the cart as the nurse was distracted.

After successfully securing the child the assassin ran off into the woods behind the hospital. They grinned to themselves as this was their first mission and glad to have made such a great success. Preparing a dagger in one hand they raise it above the child to strike when...

The wristband on the baby twisted to look at them, and with horror, they read the last name 'Grayson'.

They kidnapped one of the Grayson twins...

In a panic, they threw the baby into the woods and fled back to the hospital. But by the time they got there to kill the real baby they were sent for it was too late. The runaway assassin and the child were gone.

Meanwhile, two ectobiologists scour the woods behind a hospital on their honeymoon. What better way to celebrate marriage than with ghost hunting in a new country!

Then they hear the sounds of crying... suffering spooks! Is that a baby? Well we already have our daughter... why not give her a new baby brother :)

Dick notices that Talia gives him a weird look whenever she sees him. It's one that he has never seen her wear towards any of the other bats, so it bothers him.

Then one day after Damian and him defeat an assassin sent to kill Damian Talia shows up and says something that makes Dicks blood run cold.

“I'm so glad that you're the Grayson twin that hadn't been killed.”

it fascinates me how often a choice of first or - gasp - second person storytelling can create so much derision and discourse. having preferences is fine obviously, and as a writing choice it Does matter, because all writing choices matter. i don't really... notice?? anymore??? or like, i DO notice, but more in a "what information will the narrative give me access to" kind of way.

i know second person especially can be jarring if you're not used to it, because it's "he would not fucking say that" but for yourself. but it's also like... so many song lyrics have "you" and "i" and to me they're just. a story that exists separate from me. (to the degree lyrics exist to me at all as something other than Sounds that are part of a music piece, but that's the audio processing disorder/'did not grow up with english as a first language and never bothered to decode lyrics' of it all speaking)

i suspect a lot of derision towards first person narratives comes from a derision towards the genres in which it is a staple, rather than that it's somehow uniquely bad. there's really not much difference between a first person perspective and limited third person perspective??

Mel as the Faceless One is fitting but also super ironic because we all know Fortiche and Riot all worked really hard to give Mel a unique and beautiful design. They won an Annie Award for Mel's character design, and the Arcane season 1 DVD even has a bonus feature detailing her conception ("Making Mel") because it they worked that hard on her.

They put so much effort into making Mel instantly memorable all for her to get a job where the ironclad rule is that she's never ever seen by the public when she's performing her duties. It's like that Alanis Morrissette song.

slightly relevant after this episode, but do you guys think about how whit seemingly spent hours with charles after he discovered terurko's body, even though he didn't know what to do or how to help him?

and how even though there was an active crime scene a few rooms down, the most important thing to him in that moment was making sure someone was there for charles and he wasn't going through this by himself? even though whit admits he wasn't sure how to help? and how positive of an impact this had on charles?

i went with "role in the story" for this one. i've thought abt this AU a bit before, but i think a lot of things would change if gwyar was sacrificed instead of claret…

The Cooler Claret spawned from a face monster and so i thought it would b cute to have gwyar mutate from a crimera! (<- objectively uncute thing to say). the monsters r somewhat significant bc they represent unfulfilled desires from when they were still ppl, like claret becoming strong enough to protect her home/family and gwyar's desire to be free (hence y she can fly now).

even though claret emerges as an adult in canon, i chose to keep gwyar as a child in the swapped version bc it felt more fitting. clarets new role in the story is similar to gwyars in that she aims to purge the crimson, but where gwyar becomes quite apathetic, claret takes on a much crueler personality... 😔

I caught up to the oshi no ko manga recently and can I say whatever aquakane has going on is fucking insane good lord. Not platonic not romantic but a secret third thing (fake dating to “I have feelings for you” “I have feelings for you too” *narrator voice* the feeling was friendship to willing to commit a murder so the other won’t return to a spiraling revenge quest, a murder she was 100% down with since the moment it was implied to complicated exes but goddammit I still see through your bs and care about you idiot I’m gonna ruin your clearly self saboteering revenge quest and also it’s all super ace coded)

I'd like to thank The Lake House for answering a question about Jesse's hypothetical potential management team in my head.

Head of Research = Emily. Thoroughly established.

Head of Operations = Arish. Quasi-established. He's uneasy in the acting role but shown to be more than capable.

Head of Security = Wells. Guy from the clocks mission. Shown to have integrity, a named NPC who is still alive, and I like him.

Head of Communications = Langston in an acting role that Jesse bullies him into, then Barry eventually, who is poised to be very well-suited for it after managing Alan and the Old Gods. After we retrieve Barry from the wellness cult or whatever the fuck, that is.

Head of Investigations = Estevez, eventually. Since it's a mostly-decommissioned department, I think it would remain that way until some stability was established, and the duties would otherwise be split between Jesse, Arish, and Langston. But I feel like Jesse would want to prioritize its ethical oversight duties as essential (the same way Trench prioritized internal security), and she and Estevez would get on like a house on fire.

so disheartening to see that “don’t do what you love do what makes you money & do the thing you actually love as a hobby” post with 27k notes as someone who has many friends who are successfully working in the fields they love & who is myself like working in theatre with very realistic & possible plans to continue to pursue it just. if you have plans and connections and training and a genuine interest in doing something as a career literally go for it man and if you fail then you can worry about which office job makes you least suicidal but why would you begin from a place of defeatism ?
