…It’s been a minute since I posted any art here. At first I thought it might be because I was just getting depressed again, but tbh I’ve been happier and more creative than ever. ^^; Things are definitely different this time around…and I think it’s something that’s been building for a long time.

Recently, I started thinking about Daughters of the Pumpkin Queen again– an old webcomic that I worked on back when I was in college. And although I hate reading my old work, I made myself skim through it, and I was honestly stunned at the quality of the writing, especially in the unfinished Season 2. O_O If I can do stuff like that while school is literally eating my brains away, man…I don’t know why I’m not famous already. People really don’t appreciate genius, do they…?

Anyway, genius or not, it’s clear that I worked really hard to make it a high-quality webcomic, putting in more and more effort and polish with every new installment…while it gradually became less and less popular, like everything else I did at the time. And I think DotPQ was kind of the final straw for me, back then...

I remember getting really depressed and miserable about my art in the years that followed…I didn’t think I was depressed and miserable, but in hindsight, I was clearly in the “Anger” and “Bargaining” stages of the grieving process. ^^; I started pushing myself to do anything I could stomach to get more popular as an artist– I joined more sites, I started posting more standalone art, I branched out to new types of art; writing novels, composing music, starting speedpaint video essays near the end. I just wanted an audience again so badly, and I knew I was good at all these things, because everyone I brought my art to directly told me so. So I figured it was just a matter of finding the right niche.

Long story short, it didn’t work. ^^; I learned a ton of new artistic skills, and I definitely don’t regret that, but I never did get what I wanted– i.e. a steady stream of external validation on at least a weekly basis. What I did get was new fans of my more sporadic content, like my video essays and animation…and before that was low-key frustrating, because I really couldn’t do more than one of those a month, at best. What would I do for validation in the meantime…?

But now…I don’t really care? ^^; I don’t feel like I need validation in the meantime anymore…and at first I thought it was just laziness (or the bouts of depression) but now I’m thinking it was also just me subconsciously fighting this change in my mindset. After all, when you think of online artists, they’re usually in one of two camps: the dedicated people who chase the algorithms on a weekly/daily basis, or the legendary people who just drop a masterpiece every couple months and never say anything. And because I knew I didn’t want to be the latter; I assumed I needed to be the former, but maybe there’s middle ground.

I’m not 100% sure what it is…but I know I’ve come to be fine with just working on projects by myself for weeks or months. I don’t mind taking my time with difficult drawings anymore, or simply deciding not to post them if I don’t like them, without feeling like I wasted the effort. And I’ve relearned to make pieces I’m proud of without even wanting to post them online– initially this was because I was just afraid no one would like them as much as I expected, and it was better not to take the risk. ^^; But now it’s more like…that’s not always what they’re for. Sometimes I just want to get an idea out of my head and look at it, and that’s fine by itself.

Best of all, I can finally work on my original projects with no guilt or shame. ^^ That’s basically what I did all last month, and I had a great time. I spent hours writing every day; I made a bunch of new drawings; I even did a color study for the first time in a while. And I was the only witness…and it still feels wrong, but not as wrong as it used to. It’s kinda freeing. ‘_’

I still like to share art and talk about it with fans; it’s still the highlight of my life and one of the main reasons I feel motivated to make art. But it’s not an imperative anymore; there’s no pressure to make it happen at all costs. And I think this year, I’m going to make a conscious effort to accept that as normal. Maybe it’s just because I’ve been watching a lot of Duchess Celestia lately, but I think it’s time to review my lifestyle as an artist and lean into the parts I actually enjoy.

Now, as for this drawing: I just really loved the characters in this little series, despite all the bad memories attached to working on it. ^^ And even though Season 2 had a great storyline and part of me is tempted to finish it, I think Season 1 had a stronger concept; to the point where it’d probably be a better idea to reboot the series, if I ever went back to it.

Maybe as just a short run with 2 or 3 episodes, to play with the concept in a new way. I like the idea of re-imagining Mariska and Etelka as teenagers (which wasn’t possible in the original lore)…y’know, let them be a little more driven and opinionated, and have some more agency. DotPQ was heavily inspired by Fireball in terms of the premise; this could be a chance to borrow some more from it in terms of tone. ^^ Idk, it’s just a fun idea…I’ll probably just toy with it in the background along with everything else.

This follows my own definition of what "Comic Relief" means: A character that is used as a conduit for comedy in a piece of media

Through character studies I have determined that there are 5 types of comic relief: the Character Relief, the Audience Relief, the Tone Shifter, the Butt of the Joke, and the Slapstick. Characters that identify as "Comic Relief" usually fall into one or more of these categories

The Character Relief refers to a character who actively makes jokes to be funny in-universe through conscious humor. Examples from this poll would be Sans and Rayla, who go out of their way to make their friends laugh

The Audience Relief refers to a character who makes the audience laugh regardless of their impact on the story. Examples from this poll would be Lapis and Gus, who are often involved in comedic bits meant for audience entertainment that aren't acknowledged by the narrative as anything unprecedented

The Tone Shifter refers to a character who makes jokes to relieve tension and shift the tone of a scene, either consciously or unconsciously. Examples from this poll would be Jay and Leo, as they both consciously make jokes about grim situations to help their friends or family feel better. Additionally, Jay would do this unconsciously before his trauma made him start doing it on purpose

The Butt of the Joke refers to a character who is made fun of by other characters in-universe, whether endearingly or not. Examples from this poll would be Dewey and Lance, who are often met with insults whenever they do something wrong or silly. The insults are usually meant to be endearing and comedic, but they can still feed into the character's possible inferiority complex. This also applies whenever a villain hits them with a sick burn*

The Slapstick refers to a character who is made fun of by the narrative and the audience like a punching bag. Examples from this poll would be Sokka and Yusuke, who are sometimes put in troubling and awkward situations as a gag for the audience's entertainment alone. These gags are not fun for the characters yet delightful to watch

Most comic relief characters can be characterized as multiples of these. For example, Jar-Jar from Star Wars is both Slapstick and Audience Relief, and even if you don't find his jokes funny that doesn't change the fact that they were written with your entertainment in mind

If you're curious how a "The Narrative's Favorite (derogatory)" character would fit into this chart, they're likely both a Butt of the Joke and a Slapstick character, making their life absolute hell. To be honest, MK from Monkie Kid is an example of a character who fits all 5 categories, but he isn't blue so he isn't in this poll

Parasocial Oscar and Landoscar analysis ahead u have been warned.

Contextually, 2020 Oscar was finally pushing open the door to the world of F1 as a potential driver (Mark Webber management, Renault Sport Academy, Eurocup Championship, etc.) and that fact combined with still being a schoolboy, surrounded by mates who actively followed his career and were his personal hypemen definitely made Oscar a bit of a hotshot to gossip about. Sure, he's kinda a nerd who games and races but also he's got great grades and a pretty girlfriend and he's coworkers with max fewtrell, best friend of emerging F1 heartthrob, lando norris, so really the cards were lining up in his favor. And yet none of that success (both socially, as it appeared to his peers, and personally, career-wise) went to Oscars head. Rather, he oozed this dorky endearing confidence that planted the seed of cool self-certainty that'd follow him into his F1 career. I mean from the very start, we can witness how Oscar took everything in stride, building a strong sense of self over easily inflating his ego.

This got kinda long so the rest goes under the cut for organizing sake!

Then, observing his Prema years, Oscar was newly thrust into a whole new team vibe. And in response, he outwardly tried time and time again to be a team player with the hazing/embarrassing bits (insert multiple clips of him dancing and singing despite initial hesitation, easily accepting very personal race vlogging into his daily regime, making hundreds of silly gifs for every occasion (heavily encourage everyone to take a look bc there's genuinely so many))

NGL watching Prema vids was what initially helped me understand Oscar better/made me like him bc we get the most clear display of his lack of ego. There seemed to be a general understanding coming out of this content: the media took an exorbitant amount of energy and wasn't at all conducive to developing his racecraft. buuuuuut regardless Oscar maintained an attitude of these people are my closest thing to family out here, they care about my wellbeing and my success and god damn it if they wanna take photos in matching Christmas PJs then hand over the damn PJs. And that was all of course bolstered by his growing success and notoriety on twitter. Just as he'd established a strong sense of self from the very start, now his public identity took it's shape in a way that felt honest and lifelike <Insert Clip of Angelina pointing out his messy clothes and Piastri Shrug>. He managed to carve out a niche amongst the Prema cast and it's not that he needed to be funny but if people memed him and laughed then hey if it gets me popularity I'm all for it. 

Honestly when people dog on Oscar, saying he's got no personality it makes me crazy because it's the total opposite! I think the charm in observing his growth from Renault Academy to Prema to F1 is catching how quickly he established an unchanging confidence in not only his racecraft and wheel knowledge but also in his personality- and how that personality shines through in subtle ways. When Lando does his negging, everyone just heard Oscar sing for the first time in McLaren, am I a funny teammate, Oscar takes it in stride. He doesn't blush, nor take insult, because he has no complex - he's confident about who he is, even if people don't find it amusing. Oscar knows he's not too shy to burst into song, it's just that there isn't anyone who needs him to, so why should he? He knows Lando doesn't think he's funny, but it's not like he was trying to be anyways, so what's it matter? On the flip side too, the rare times we get an outward expression of his confidence are GEMS. The Pool Promo, where he *unprompted* shows off with a trickshot and wins, THIS VIDEO where he eggs on Lando to call lies on his confidence, calling out Carlos/Lance when they interfere with his driving, does it please you greatly that you've won before Lando, is max the best driver on the grid, the whole cricket video, etc etc.

(LOL because I write about fashion outside of this blog and someone might appreciate the connection, in my brain I kinda liken Lando and Oscar's respective confidence to loud/quiet luxury. Lando's a OOAK Hot Pink Birkin and Oscar is a Helmut Lang black slack lolol) (Not a diss btw both items have social connotations/importance that we could unpack for hours but I digress. this point is additionally funnier because id trust lando to know loewe while gucci and supreme are definitely the limits of oscars fashion insight)

I digress I digress I digress. Going back to the Prema assigned humiliation rituals. In a way I think Oscar's ethos regarding embarrassment/lack of ego heavily simplifies down to this story. His mom goes on to explain how after winning an award she gave him a big kiss in front of the whole school and, contrary to how most kids would be embarrassed or angry at the sudden loud affection, Oscar just brushed it off like no matter! "He's just resigned to it" <- literally the most OP81 psychoanalysis of all time thank you Nicole Piastri. For Oscar, the implied embarrassment he should be feeling does not register, as he simply receives love without any grievances, and hasn't the mind to worry how everyone else perceives this exchange. I swear I have a point pls stick with me. So, reiterating, this is the Prema treatment, sitting in front of the camera, Oscar resigns to producing content that's at least moderately enthusing because at the end of the day, the love for his team and the people he's working with is what's worth sacrificing mystery or "cool-ness" for. And even that's a bit of a misstep because I don't think he views it as a sacrifice so much as 'being perceived' doesn't fall on his radar of important things at all. Which! is what makes Oscar SO effortlessly nonchalant in an objectively cool way! (like this is where the more surface-level likening to Kimi Raikkonen <certified Ice Man> comes from) (The real Oscar freaks know he's not any cooler than his indifference and he's actually an incredibly endearingly awkward guy. He just doesn't take himself too serious, idk you get it.)

Now continuing down this timeline, F1 Oscar, who's got exponentially more eyes on him and a humongous team of people who's names he is still learning- comparatively, who is the one guy he can definitely remember the name of. In this transfer of teams and people, all this “I love you even if its kinda objectively embarrassing for me” energy Has to go somewhere and where else would it go than the one guy who’s name he can remember; the one guy in the same exact position as him; the one guy who he’s followed and idolized since 14! YEAH YEAH. And now Lando himself is hardly an extrovert like Oscar’s old prema friends/coworkers, so instead of yes I'll do a stupid dance so you can have good content and make your job easier Oscar -Acts of Service- Piastri has kinda got the most easy job in the world of loving Lando —I just want to make eye contact and know you hate/love this as much as I do— Norris. Like they genuinely match each others freaks in the sweetest introverted mutually beneficial way.

When you really dissect Oscar's Prema content, he’s equally expressive to everyone! He stares holes in the heads of Fred/Logan, doubles over laughing at Arthur/Robert, blushes over Angelina's teasing; it's a sanction of his care and attention divulged to each person in his sphere, one slice of the Oscar cake. Now take Lando? He's been treated to the whole Oscar Cake with a side of ice cream and a cherry on top. Like imagine if you had 10 glasses of water and you poured all of that water into one glass. Suddenly it’s overflowing and there’s water all over the table and the mess is apparent to everyone and the waiter is bringing over towels and someone's grandma just fucking slipped in the puddle and there's a baby crying and- right? right. Oscar’s love language that was distributed across an entire team of people now has nowhere to go but Lando. And not only is it love in respect to the game, it's I've known you years before you knew me, I fell asleep to your voice, watched you grow into the man you are today type love. Oscar is folded at the waist drowning Lando, staring at him with the force of 10x one man's ration of love and we are all god's honest witnesses! Yea no wonder he want that cookie so effing bad tf!!!!!

And it’s such a compelling dynamic because Oscar has been ready to transfer that quiet affection since the very beginning (had old pics of Lando on his phone up through his first year of F1 rightttt right) and since the start of it all, we just get front row seats to Lando reacting to this unconditional respect/love. WHICH IS EVEN GREATER FOR THE FREAKS AND THE WEIRDOS BC LANDO IS SUCH A WEIRDO AND HIS COMPLEXES TOWARDS OSCAR ARE SO COMPLICATED. Basically like. idk. I love when they beef bc Oscar is like I love u I love u I love u and landos like idgaf I’m cheating on u actually no I’m sorry come here I will give u silly nicknames reserved for only me to call u, but actually fuck u and ur talent I’m not spraying u w champange but also oh my god I’m a mess come be freaky w me about it,,,,, the put Lando Norris in a scenario versus his own mind agenda is great. (Bringing back the og tag to just say not ln4 hate, i just like to observe him like a bug in a jar and shake the jar hard bc he is a millionaire and my silly wabbit who I experiment on) anyways. Yea. Lando is complex. As you know I hesitated between 3 characters. More precisely, Feixiao, Argenti and Mydei! In the end I picked Feixiao because…fighter x poet ah yes a good ol trope.

Your meeting was a pure coincidence. She was sparring/fighting while you were sitting nearby. If her weapon didn’t accidentally fly your way and land at your feet you two wouldv’e never met. She was very apologetic and kinda sheepish about what happened. Of course you were startled for obvious reasons. Feixiao took a page from Jiaoqiu diplomatic book and invited you to eat as an apology. Feixiao is naturally easy going. I can see her being curious about what you wrote/were reading. She’d get involved in the conversation and make you feel at ease. Next thing you know you two are rambling into the night. Who knew you two had so many musics in common?

Now let’s be for real. I think Feixiao liked the idea of having a girl friend (the girlfriend coming next hehe) who isn’t into her whole fighting world. Makes her discover a new part of herself you know? She might be a good strategist who read many books about the subject, she still enjoys anything you recommend her. I think she’d find books about womanhood to be empowering. You know Feixiao is affected when you notice her doing things that are considered more feminime? I don’t know how to say it properly…I mean girl is built like Aphrodite (no curse) and takes care of her body very well so it’ll mostly be in the aura (why do I imagine her sending you a picture of ice cream with the caption girl dinner?) ANYWAYS! As I said she finds your presence refreshing. And while she didn’t notice at first your tendency to put yourself last, she always includes you in conversations and takes your opinion into consideration. She’s good at guessing when you don’t really wanna do something and is just going with the flow. Feixiao definitely fits into your likes of being confident and self-assured, that’s why you feel at ease with her. She doesn’t take advantage of you and instead encourages you to make your voice be heard more. This applies in friendship and relationship.

Feixiao realized she loved you after a sleepover. You had fallen asleep first. She had agreed to take you camping to a niche spot she loves as in her words, the stars seem to shine the brightest there. Feixiao didn’t realize how much of a playful and teasing person you could be till you opened up. That’s when she realized you had many layers and each one makes her feel fuzzier than the last. Feixiao decided here and then that this cake is worth eating with all its different layers (this sounded way better in my head)

Fox lady way of courting you is something…peculiar. She gets more protective. If she feels like you’re not comfortable and just going with it to not be the odd one she’ll object and sway the subject to something better. She also gives you pep talks about how unique you are, always hyping you up but not realizing that you’re falling for her and not understanding the mixed signals. She also presents you to a lot of her friends who all realize there’s a spark. I mean, Moze once found her playing one of your visual novels/dating sims to try and understand why X Y Z is your favorite. Despite all these signs you found yourself overthinking, believing she was just being friendly. It’s normal for you to spiral in this fog…but thankfully she’s here to lighten the way. One morning, Feixiao knocked on your door after noticing you were feeling down the past days. She brought your favorite snacks and refused to go away. Seeing you like that broke her heart and loosened her tongue.

“Hey, who did this to you? Did you burn out again? I told you to take care of yourself…I can’t bear to see something so precious to me spiral this way…What? Yes I said you’re precious because you are to me. You’re a breath of fresh air, the light at the end of my tunnel, the reason why I feel like getting attached again. Not that I had much of a choice because the battle against my feelings for you is one I surrendered to and just plunged into. Would you allow me to lend you the strength? I promise that as long as I’m standing, you can do whatever you want. I’ll back you up and help you flourish”

Yes this is how she confessed. And you two ended up playing games and talking the whole day. But by the next morning everyone knew of your relationship (in her close circle) because she bragged about it. Feixiao is like that for real.

Now as you noticed, she’s extremely protective. She notices the way you suppress your emotions, the way you overextend yourself, and she refuses to let you carry everything alone. If she sees someone dismissing your needs, she will speak up for you, even if she knows you can do it yourself. She’d like for you to stand up more but accepts you how you are. Plus she feels more like your personal knight in shining armor. Speaking of how you are…Feixiao will end up opening up about her past and origins. But she knows it’s difficult to fully open up and understand oneself. Trust is fragile but she’s willing to wait for you. Everyone has their secret garden, just like she has so expect her to be understanding. The only times she’ll be pushy is if she feels like you’re hurting yourself in the process. Even then she’ll try to give subtle advices before addressing it. Besides that she’s respectful of your need for space even if at the end of the day she just can’t wait but to pounce on you for cuddles. Yes Feixiao loves pda, fight me about it. The bad thing with it is that at first she didn’t notice how you tensed when she wrapped an arm around your shoulder. The good thing is once you got comfy, it was heaven for you.

Now onto something more positive… This woman lives to fluster you. She leans in close when teasing, casually rests her arm around your shoulders, and acts like it’s no big deal. She loves seeing you squirm, but the moment you turn the tables and tease her back? Oh, she’s delighted. It’s very rare for you to catch her off guard and make her blush so good luck. Sly as a fox as we say. Advice? Use the fact that she’s a hopeless romantic in denial. Feixiao never realized how soft she could be until she met you. One day, she found herself holding onto a scarf you left at her place, just breathing in your scent, and she was happy. Scarf means clothes. You two have a similar style but she has to wear more formal fits. You can fully expect her to steal your oversized shirts. She likes gifting you clothes, like good jeans cuz they’re hard to come across. But accessories are the things she gifts you the most as she knows you like to fidget with them. Bonus? She can also fidget with them while cuddling (her cuddles are also a way to get you to sleep more).

Feixiao loves spontaneous dates. She travels often and while she’d love for you to travel with her, she’d respect your wishes if you’re against it or refuses to take you with her if it’s too dangerous. That’s why she insists on at least one video call per day when she’s away. Don’t tell her but she sometimes wishes to ask you to sleep with the camera on so she can feel like she’s sleeping with you…give her a plushie and you’ll always see it in her luggage. One of the reasons is that it brings Feixiao comfort that you are safe and it helps ground her after a nightmare. Her travels are also the reason why she picked up gaming. After discovering your love for visual novels/dating sims, she insists on playing them together. She voices all the characters dramatically, but if there’s a love interest you’re simping over, she’ll pretend to be jealous just to make you laugh. I always headcanon Stu as having something like ADHD, or just more hyperactive autism.

Been a while since I wrote about these two, huh? I’ve kinda missed em, ngl. Hope it’s alright I took some liberties with the hyperfixations :)

I can imagine that maybe you were friends with Stu when you were kids, because you were both “weird” in other people’s opinion. Stu because he was too hyperactive and could never sit still, and you because of your weird interests and how you were quite antisocial at times.

Time would pass, you guys would grow older. Stu would become someone popular, as his erratic and hyper personality becomes something others admire because he’s fun, whilst you stay being the weirdo with too much interest in medical texts, insects, and decomposition.

Neither of you meant to do it, but you would grow apart. Stu would get his new friends, specifically Billy, and you would stay by yourself burying yourself in your special interests. Its not strange to find you flipping through medical books or books about the horrors of war and medical malpractice. The more pictures the better.

When its not medical texts and war pictures with as much gorey detail as possible in the text and pictures, you can be found reading about death and the work of being a mortician, the way a body decays, and all that.

And when its neither of those things, you can be found looks at bugs, lifting rocks or moving trash to see what critters you can find. You have a sketchbook you like to draw in, three ones at that, one for each hyperfixation since you don’t wanna mix the information in them.

Its in the many niche medical books you learn about being transgender, and suddenly how uncomfortable you are in your own body makes sense. You don’t need any friends, or your families support to transition, that’s what you tell yourself at least.

You haven’t really had any real friends since you split form Stu when you were kids, and your creepy interests chase off anyone who might attempt to befriend you.

So, when you show up one day to school and openly tell people you are now a boy, no one really questions it, because why would they? You’re already weird, and compared to all your other quirks, being a boy is probably the most normal thing about you.

Through all these years you haven’t experienced as much bullying as you probably would have anywhere else, all thanks to Billy and Stu.

Stu because he still sees you as his friend in some way, and Billy because he’s fascinated by you. One day after you had come out, he walked behind you and saw you drawing detailed diagrams of top surgery in grotesque detail, and Billy has been hooked since.

At some point you and Billy would end up talking, one way or another. Maybe it was at the video store around Halloween one night, maybe the year Sidney’s mom died, and Billy would ask your opinion on the horror movie selection.

Youd grimace and say they sucked since the gore was so unrealistic, which Billy, the freak, would definitely ask into why you thought so. This would lead to you infodumping to him for a long time, going through multiple movies and explaining how its unrealistic and what would have made it better.

As infodumping goes, you don’t even realize how long you’ve been standing there talking to one of the hottest guy at your school about fictional gore, until Randy has to tell you guys that the store is closing soon.

You end up getting real embarrassed about wasting his time like that, which Billy is quick to tell you that nothing was wasted because he loved talking about it with you and hearing what you had to say. He would love to talk again some time.

You don’t really believe him, until he searches you out the next day in your shared free period when you are sitting outside drawing bugs and beetles, dragging Stu with him of all people. You haven’t actually interacted with Stu in a while, so you cringe and get jitters when he hugs you and gets into your personal space.

Its Billy who has to remind him of personal space, and before you know it, they’ve asked in about your special interests, and then they just sit back as you infodump and show them the pictures and drawings you have in all three of your sketchbooks, making the two Woodsboro killers fall for you harder and harder.

Time would pass and you three would start spending a lot of time together, Billy and Stu always hanging around you to listen to what you have to say, never growing tired no matter how much you infodump.

Stu would be the first to confess his feelings, as he feels fast and he feels strong, so one day when you two are laying on his bed and you’re talking about the difference between two beetles who look almost the exact same, whilst also talking about lungs and how they’re built, Stu just leans over and kisses you.

You would be so confused, until Stu tells you that he really likes you, he would even spill the beans that Billy feels the same way too. As if summoned, Billy would show up and Stu would be all like “right Billy? You like him too, right?” and Billy would facepalm cuz he planned on confessing in a much better way.

But hed agree and say he fell pretty damn hard for you, but neither rushes you in your decision as they know it’s a big step. I can imagine Stu also rambling about how hes always liked you since you were kids, even before you transitioned, and how he actually started liking you even more afterwards because you looked so much more comfortable with yourself and who you were.

At some point you would come to the conclusion that you felt the same way, and boom, now you got two boyfriends who like you for who you are, and would stab a bitch if they tried to disrespect you in any way, shape, or form.

When the ghostface killings happen, you wouldn’t be at the party since they are super overstimulating, but you would go to the hospital to check on Billy and Stu since they are the only “survivors”.

I thought it would be funny if you developed a special interest in the ghostface killers and started a fourth sketchbook filled with your notes and theories, but you would keep it hidden form Billy and Stu because you fear it would trigger their trauma, since you don’t know they are the killers.

The fourth sketchbook would also have rants you can’t put anywhere else, like how certain people have hatecrimed you because of your gender, or because you are “weird”, and how some dark sick part of your brain wants the ghostface killers to kill them.

At some point your boyfriends would find the sketchbook and go through it together, whistling as they see the detailed analysis made for each kill, and how you are so close to figuring it out. But when they read all the stuff you’ve written you never told them, it angers them that people have been hurting you without them knowing.

You wouldn’t have told them since you didn’t want to worry them, and it wasn’t their fight in your opinion. Billy and Stu decide that they have to pull out the masks once more, seems they have a couple of horrible people to get rid of for mistreating you.

Imagine your surprise when one night you walk into your room stimming with both your hands and repeating stuff that Billy and Stu said earlier that day, only to find not one, but two people wearing ghostface gear in your room.

It takes you a little too long to even spot them as you were scribbling in your death sketchbook, having gotten a sudden spark of inspiration on the way home from your apprenticeship as the local funeral home.

You almost get to scream before they pounce, never actually hurting you but clamping a hand over your mouth, their gloves wet with what you can smell is blood. After they make you promise to stay quiet, they unmask and reveal who they are.

You buffer like an old computer for a little too long, before smacking the shit out of both of them, wacking them in the chest for not telling you. Your opinion on death and murder are probably really twisted, and the people they’ve killed have either hurt you or you had no relationship with them.

It does light up every light in your hyperfixations though, and you might demand them to explain what killing someone is like, or what a freshly killed body looks like for your sketchbooks.

Billy would grin and try to kiss you, because how can you be so perfect? But you’d wave him off with a grimace and demand Stu explain once again what it was like stabbing someone so you can get it all down in your book.

I don’t know if youd join them as a third Ghostface, but they might take you along every now and then, letting you roam the place after they’ve done their thing if the chance is there. I could imagine them taking pictures of things for you too.

I’m imagining them both dressed up as ghostface, except no mask, both kissing at your cheeks and neck and being all lovey dovey and almost purring, whilst you are sketching down the different pictures and notes about them.

They love you so much, its insane. You’re gonna have them hanging on you for the rest of your life, sorry man, I don’t make the rules. Even if you move to another city and start studying to be a professor or like, investigator for the FBI, they would go with you. It would even help them in their Ghostface work as you are an expert in them not getting caught.

So something I realized watching a few videos and reading a few articles is that most of us aren’t angry at the idea of AI in general. Many of us are excited to learn about AI systems that can identify cancer better than doctors, for instance.

What we’re angry about is generative AI being used to destroy the jobs of artists (and I mean all creatives here), who have already been dealing with their work being devalued by modern society.

And I’m not sure how to deal with it. I do remember learning that when photography became a thing, many painters were horrified and terrified of would erase the art of painting. It didn’t obviously, and in fact photography because a whole new art form.

I grew up during the birth of digital art. I distinctly remember the phase digital art went through where many people declared it to not be “real art” and that it was “cheating” etc. I’m sure other millennial artists also remember this transition. But graphic designers pretty quickly adopted digital tools, and websites like DeviantArt popped up, and I don’t think there are too many people nowadays who would say a digital painting isn’t “art”. Still, I do imagine there is a gulf between how some people would view the “artistic merit” of a 3 ft tall oil painting hanging next to a 3 ft tall print of a digital painting, even if the subject and styles were similar. So the worries that digital art would erase physical painting was also proven false. And for the record, I think digital art is 100% art. The merit of digital art is equal to that of physical art.

On the other hand, I can’t say these changes didn’t affect older forms of art. Like, photography did affect the world of painting. I don’t have statistics, but it seems like it probably affected the world of portraiture the most. And I wonder if many of the 20th century art movements were influenced by photography. None of my art history classes touched on that and it’s kinda weird to me. There is definitely something about a Dada or cubism or surrealist painting that transcends beyond what a traditional photo of a landscape or a portrait can do. There is no location in the real world with actual melting clocks or people whose faces show multiple angles at once.

And then there was the digital photograph that changed everything again! Film has become a niche art form.

There were specific kinds of jobs lost due to the digital transition, too. I’m thinking of things like murals being replaced by printed banners, or book covers often being done in photoshop. Oh, and that’s another tool that was faced with fear: Photoshop! There was a fear it would destroy the need for professional photographers because everyone could just fix their own photos. Turns out nope, and in fact people skilled in photography and photo editing are still in demand. And of course there’s the loss of 2D animation in favor of 3D animation, the loss of practical effects for digital, etc.

And you might argue that in some of those cases people can tell corners are being cut and that they won’t stand for it, but Marvel movies still make billions of dollars so…

So I don’t know what’s going to happen with AI art. I am NOT saying “all current artists are stupid and wrong, in the future history students will laugh at how stubborn they were to resist this idea”. AI art is not comparable to photography or digital painting.

With a photograph, you still need to compose the image in the frame, you need to position yourself in the real world, you need to know your equipment, whether you’re using film or digital. You also need to know how to process that photo either in the dark room or in Photoshop. These are skills the average person does not have. You cannot tell an AI “that shot was good but can you increase the contrast?” It’ll just produce a completely new image.

I read an article about an art director who was encountering difficulties as the department tried to incorporate AI. They got back first drafts of art ideas from the people employed to work with the AI, gave critique, and the second round was just completely new images that didn’t include the suggestions… because they couldn’t. AI does not understand color theory. It does not have the ability to take critique. It can’t slightly alter the layout of a design.

And all of that applies to painting too. AI (currently) can’t do what a trained art student can do. It doesn’t know that to create a sense of atmosphere you should make distant objects bluer. It doesn’t know how to use human physiology and psychology to draw a viewer’s eyes across a large painting to reveal a story.

AI also can’t replicate INTENTION - and intentionality is a HUGE part of art. WHY an artist chose those colors, that medium, that composition, those tools, why they chose to display it a certain way, why the composition is like this instead of that - all of that adds meaning to the painting that you can’t get with AI.

(Yes, there is an absolutely valid field of art critique that evaluates a piece of art on its standalone value and the message it conveys without the context of the artist’s intent, but that should be compared to the analysis that DOES include the artist’s intent! That comparison can bring about so much understanding!)

Anyway I’m going to end this post now because it has gotten WAY too long. I focused mostly on painting and photography in this post because those are my particular fields of speciality, but this applies to ALL ART. It applies to music and writing and scripting and acting and composing music and just. Everything. All art.

I don’t think there are any forms of art AI doesn’t threaten. Now granted, AI can’t currently pick up a paint brush. It can’t use a crochet needle. It can’t hold a camera. And maybe there will be some sort of return to physical media in response to AI produced digital art. Or maybe there will be a response in digital art to stylistically distinguish it from AI in a way AI can’t reproduce. I’m not sure what will happen. Maybe some proof the image was digitally painted by a real person, somehow. Or that it’s a real photo, or a real article. I saw someone mention there may end up being labels like “100% human made” like we do for organic food lol. Maybe work in progress videos or photo metadata will become more commonplace as evidence of authenticity.

Anyway, NOW I’m ending this post. Whew.

Digimon Adventure 02 Drama CD (Armor Evolution to the Unknown)

There are definitely perks to binging a franchise with a big fandom and one of them is being able to easily locate more niche content like this. HUGE thank you to the translator and Youtube uploader who made this post possible. I wish there was more hype for drama CDs so we could find them all in one spot, but I take what I can get. This was a blast.

Track 1 - Daisuke’s Great Valentine’s Day Plan (listen here)

Daisuke wants to be more popular with the ladies on Valentine's Day so he goes around looking for manly mentors, starting with Yamato and Koushiro. This kinda reminded me of the My Little Pony episode where the pony's try each others special talents lol. The message is obviously "be yourself"

My favorite part was when Daisuke tried to speak more like Koushiro and Koushiro flipping out at Daisuke for messing with his computer 😂

The girls whispering about Sora and Yamato's stubborn personalities was pretty funny too. I never thought about that connection before. I don't really think having the same personality makes you compatible though (usually it's the opposite)

I like that this is formatted like an anime episode with the theme song and the narrator. Makes it feel more like an official extension of the show.

Track 2 - The Heart Thief (listen here)

These drama CDs almost match the vibe of the 02 English dub because they throw in a random gag like every 2 minutes (and a lot of obscure pop culture references). Shout out to the translator who put in tons of footnotes explaining the more confusing jokes.

I had to pause many times listening to this to remember who these characters were because this track focused on a lot of side characters.

The gag of Hiroaki and the narrator having the same voice actor was hilarious. I guess these things stand out more in audio-only formats.

How the heck did the girls not realize Boltmon was a digimon when they first saw him?? HE'S GREEN. The "looking for a heart" thing feels very Wizard of Oz. I guess they just wanted to make the villain Valentine's themed.

Track 3 - What the Children Can Do (Listen here)

Lol this was the most Japanese/footnote packed track yet. So many voice actor gags and references to dialects that I've never heard of/can barely tell apart! I do wonder if the children listening even understand any of these jokes (like do they really know Finnish rock band Leningrad Cowboys?) I guess they'd think the accents are funny at least. This drama CD would be really hard to localize...

The joke about the group needing to split up or else "no one will get many lines" killed me 😂

I feel like the people most entertained by these drama CDs are the voice actors themselves, they seem to be having a blast.

Track 4 - Daisuke, Dark Evolution! (listen here)

Okay, this was clearly written in the 2000s because the humor is very "LOLRANDUM XD" Luckily, I'm a millennial, so I have a soft spot for that kind of humor. A Japanese commenter said it well カオス過ぎるw (too chaotic lol).

The funniest part of these is how unserious the monster of the week is. Like they're taken hostage but they're still goofing around and then the enemy joins in on the gags too lol

Daisuke failing hard at being a dark hero was funny, especially when he asked V-Mon's permission to kick him and then immediately apologized afterwards

Ken is obviously fangirl bait (as they joke about in this track) but I never found his Digimon Kaiser persona to be the cool side, I think most real fangirls would like his normal self better (without the dorky outfit and hair)

I'm glad the moms got a random cameo and it was fun to hear them interact lightheartedly

Sora got the ick from Yamato's tap dancing lmao. Incidentally, I don't remember ever seeing tap dancing in anime like ever? (unTAPPED market 😜)

I'm bitter that they gave Wormmon a cute digivolution for the drama CD but not the anime 😑I've never cared for Stingmon, personally.

Track 5 - Armor Evolving in Chaos (Listen here)

Oh man, I had a big smile on my face the whole time listening to this, it was so fun. All of them scrambled the digimentals and revealed a bunch of new digivolutions, some legit, but most of them gag digivolutions. Sooo silly. Gomamon even says "nothing makes sense right now but oh well!" lol

My jaw DROPPED when I saw that Linkmon was a Cyborg 009 homage. Are you kidding me!?! You mean another series I binged for my blog has a connection to Digimon??? Stunned. This is why I like to absorb all of pop culture cuz then these references really hit.

I wish there were illustrations for all the joke digimon (like Selfishmon) lol.

More funny meta jokes when they defeat Boltmon and no one really knows how they did it.

Wow, this one was a hoot and a holler. I think gag versions of serious(ish) shows might be my favorite thing. I give this a 7 out of 10.

Sun and Moon's anime artstyle was fine. This isn't quite a controversial take anymore, but back in the early days of Gen7, it was pretty reviled. (The Sun and Moon games, up until the UBs and the full extent of Lusamine's insanity were revealed, were pretty light-hearted: our main rival was a chill guy who just wanted to eat malasadas and vibe most of the time, the apparent villain team was a bunch of punk kids, the island challenge is more of a traditional coming of age journey over a quest to be the best, and the League isn't even a thing until about 2/3 of the way thru the main story. And with how Hau and/or Lillie accompany you for most of the story, it feels like a fun island vacation with friends. I feel the anime does a pretty great job at showing the more relaxed atmosphere Alola had--Ash even comes to Alola on vacation originally--, and the more shonen, "intense" artstyle XYZ had just wouldn't have been fitting. I will admit to not liking Ash's design, but everyone else looked fine.)

I don't like Leon or Iono, their showboaty personalities just kinda rub me the wrong way. They're not bad characters really, it makes sense in-story why they are the way they are with being celebrities, it's just not a vibe I'm particularly fond of. (Leon annoys me more tho since the writers basically use him to block the player from more interesting developments in SwSh's storyline.)

SV, despite its technical issues (which is a fair complaint, they definitely needed more development time!), was excellent. Between it, PMEX (the story side of things anyway) and PLA, it feels like we're entering a new golden era of Pokemon for me, I haven't enjoyed the games this much since the DS era, and it really makes me excited for PLZA!

HZ has been better to me than most of Ash's series. (And there's still plenty of time for it to surpass my previous favorites.) I like a series that I can speculate on, and that was kinda rare previously. Most I can really remember is if they would even have Team Plasma after the dropped two-parter and going thru a couple of years of them being no-shows, what Flare's plans for the Megalith would be, and how Lusamine fit into Lillie's trauma since it was pretty obvious it was tied into the UBs. But that's it, in all of 26yrs. Y'all've seen my brainrot over HZ, I haven't shut up about it recently. It's infinitely worse than I ever was with Ash 😂

And as always, Flare is the best villain team in raw potential. It's just the main games bungled them, and their best portrayals between the anime, manga, and Masters all have their own niches. (Tho I think the anime and Masters do Lysandre specifically better, while the manga is the best showcase of the organization as a whole.) They're pretty much a genocidal secret police with the side info about them we're presented with, but they don't really showcase their creepier traits enough.

Honestly so happy to find another person who doesn’t like colleen. Depressing how they’re the face of shojo when they make such mediocre content. Their queer shojo video was so bad it made me depressed…why do so many popular shojo influencers hate bl??

I think the main point of contention that shoujo fans have with colleen's content is that it's definitely more surface level beginner info in many cases, but it's packaged in a way that acts like it's targeted at long time fans (like the history of shoujo vid or the queer subtext vid). I think their videos are solidly FINE if you don't particularly hold any long term interest in shoujo (as in, maybe you're a casual reader or even just know of it) but beyond that they aren't necessarily a source of EXPANDED info. However I can't really look past the pretty easily disprovable misinfo that could have been rectified with....basically a singular google search especially in cases like the queer subtext video lol. Like that stuff can really only slide if the viewer doesn't care THAT much.

Which I think is where the whole influencer persona gets a bit frustrating. You can only really act like a figurehead to a degree with a language barrier and also a relatively pretty limited catalogue of things you've read and limited knowledge within the space you're acting figurehead of.

But honestly i think a lot of big shoujo accounts (on twt but I suppose elsewhere like maybe tiktok and youtube but I'm not really in the space there + don't have tiktok myself) do a disservice to the queer roots of the genre for the sole reason that within English publication spaces it's pretty glaringly left out. The shoujo that gets published in English is in a landslide percentage mostly heterosexual romance or easily digestible drama.

Not that something like that should prevent people from reading the queer stories, obviously there are scanlations of a lot of them and even official publications in a few cases, but it's way easier to make an influencer-esque persona based off series that are easy (and legal lol) to access and promote. That being said I also think the anime and manga community online has a homophobia issue and the online aversion to BL in any form is still going strong so 🤷‍♂️. In an online climate where reading things with unhappy endings or controversial topics gets you labelled as a problem or worse I'm not surprised the people with platforms steer clear from talking about them, as disappointing as it is for people who actually care about the history of shoujo. And also for people who are also you know gay and like to read about gay characters rather than the same straighty drivel.

All that being said tho I don't actually have an issue with Colleen as like, a person mostly because I don't get access to their person, the same way ppl who just follow me on here don't really get access to MY person either. I don't really get to say I dislike THEM but I do as it stands dislike their content and what exists of their online "celebrity" for lack of a better term.

And for the record while I'm on this tangent I think they (and their friends/followers) could probably learn to handle criticism levelled against them a little bit better, because you (in reference to anon specifically, and I'm taking you being on anon as more proof of this) aren't the first person to come to me in private or anonymously to voice their critiques or distaste because they don't feel comfortable publicly posting about it. I think a niche community shouldn't have a person with a platform acting figurehead that people are nervous about disagreeing with on their own personal accounts. I think that just kinda sucks overall for the general community. I haven't had any kickback that I've seen and I'm pretty used to being disliked online atp but others can't handle it and really shouldn't have to if all they're doing is voicing complaints on something posted publicly!

(Also also, I'm kiddinnnnggggg anyone can read the manga I like and talk about it. Obviouslyyyyy. I might just not like what they have to say about it. lol)

Welcome to my niche ideas again this might be the most weirdest and cursed idea yet.

Warnings : This is definitely +18 plus content mixed with crack/humor. Nothing to explicit besides uhh " film " watching???

Imagine if the MC has a " odd " hobby of collecting spicy tapes from the 70s, 80s, and 90's . Not necessarily to get off to its more of a source of entertainment for them since well there be nothing to watch they just watch and rate them out of 10.

Although this is a hobby that was kept to themselves because they don't wanna get judged. But since jack entered their life they feel a bit more comfortable telling jack about since he's overall supportive of any hobby or interest, so they think of bringing it up once they have more material, even though MC nervous about telling him and this hobby though

As they set up the vhs player Jack questions if there going to watch one of their favorite childhood movies/cartoons again. Though MC explains nervously about their hobby asking if jack wants to join them.

Jack would be kinda stunned but overall he goes along with it until he noticed one of the tapes that Mc holds is tilted " Midnight Passion " his eyes grew wide and he gets completely flustered and stutters slightly sweating a bit asking

"A..Are you sure you want to watch this one..? "

Mc just chuckles at Jack's reaction and just basically tells him it can't be that cringe worthy and pure the tape on. To Jack's dismay he becomes uncharacteristically quiet while the blush still remains glancing at the MC from time to time.

As it plays there's a clear shot of a tall, muscular man with brown hair, nice tattoos and quite the charming smile on screen. He seems to be carrying his partner to the back of his RV letting the seats down with a remote before gently laying them on the seat bed (?).

Jack is practically a tomato sneaking more glances at MC wondering how they are reacting only to see them completely infested to the film to his surprise he calms a bit.

Mc on the other hand is a bit hot and bothered watching the scene that falls before them. It isn't unusual for them to feel this it's just kind of far in between, since some of the films can be incredibly cringy and quite a turn off so it comes off as a comedy more to them. But something about this film seems so authentic they can feel the chemistry and passion between the 2 performers.

The brunette and the performer are now in nothing but their undergarments practically grinding against each other while making out. The camera zooms back to man once more as he gives the camera a wolfish smirk before switching the angle to him taking of the performer garments with his hand slowly and deliberately.

" Wow.. This film is really hot especially the brunette he's definitely a nice tall glass of water if you ask m- "

" WHAT- You think he's what now. Actually I have a better idea let's watch something else!! "

idk if this is weird but I genuinely don’t get how you doubt your writing ability sometimes.. like the way you write gojo or any other characters I literally look for that VERISON of them in other fics? Does that make sense? Like whenever I try and find a gojo x reader I try and look for something as good as yours? ( if I’m being honest not most of them suffice) if this is a weird ask just delete it pls

first of all thank you so very much for your ask i appreciate it a lot :'') and i'm flattered to hear that as well! also it's not a weird ask hahah it's a little interesting to hear as the author because i think most authors can relate to always feeling like their works aren't as good as the author next to them but i've definitely felt this way about certain fics/books as a reader so i can see it from that angle

to candidly answer, i think my feelings of inadequacy regarding my fics is largely centered around my social anxiety??? i used to have REALLY bad social anxiety growing up (like, i would literally break down crying in front of the whole class anytime i had to present a group project or participate in class etc...it was bad...i got sent to the guidance counselor many times...0/10 very traumatizing experiences...)

i've since grown a LOT, both from therapy and also forcing myself into uncomfortable situations (exposure therapy ftw), and i'm like way better functioning now lol like i've worked in clinics/hospitals n i'm in med school now and i wouldn't have been able to accomplish any of this if i didn't get over a substantial amount of my anxiety. i still have anxiety "flare ups" if you will but they usually pass pretty quickly

but i think the reason why writing makes me so anxious and kinda brings back that part of me that is socially anxious is because it's such a painfully...vulnerable hobby? like, i've never considered myself to be any sort of great author, since day one of posting kickoff. i don't have any great talent for sophisticated prose, my vocabulary is subpar, and i'm pretty sure i break a lot of conventional grammar rules all the time lol (i'm truly not trying to be self deprecating here, it's just kind of an objective analysis? i think i've grown a lot as an author too) but anyways, so when i tried to kinda come up w my own writing style n see how i can still make my stories interesting...i kinda settled around a writing style that had pretty simple diction but was just...really personal and detailed and hit really close to home for my own personal experiences. it may be corny to say but like i genuinely put in a lot of myself into my stories, my characters, etc. every contrived detail or niche personality trait or random incident or character dilemma is most likely something you could trace back to my personal life lol

but because of that, and i guess because my social anxiety was always centered around the fundamental belief that people are judging me for no reason, i think the added vulnerability of the writing really makes it hard for me. i have lots of negative thoughts about my writing when i'm working on chapters for that reason, because my fics are representations of me, that if someone doesn't like my fic, then it means they don't like me. lol.

now i knowwwwwww it's all in my head bahahah. and like eventually once i get over The Thoughts i'm like bitch it aint that deep, there are readers who love you, and even if someone doesn't like your work who gives a fuck just post it anyway. and then i get to post the chapter. but like...in the interim when i'm working on chapters, i'd say those thoughts get in the way of me churning stuff out faster. like i can literally write 3k words in an hour hahaha n i don't really need to edit my first drafts very much. and while i don't have MUCH free time, i definitely have maybe 3-4 hours a week where i can write. but because the negative thoughts kinda weigh down my motivation, there ends up being delays.

i am so sorry that this is so long, and is such a yap. i just felt like being vulnerable for a moment (something i'm working on)

i think a big problem with modern batfam comics is that they have so many characters that kinda just overlap- here’s my ideas for how to give each of them their own “niche” to make them unique. Some of this is canon or alluded to is some way- but a lot is just what i think makes sense for each character.

Bruce Wayne

Bruce retires, it’s the only way to give all his kids / kid adjacents their own chance to shine. i’m sure he grumbles about it and watches from the bat cave obsessively, but i’m the end he’s learned to trust the batfam and lets them take care of things.

Dick Grayson

I actually really like where Dick is at in comics right now, i mean it’s not perfect- but I like the idea of Nightwing being a “better” version of Batman for Blüdhaven. He leads the Titans, which are now on par pedigree wise with the Justice League, and as Dick Grayson he is an active member of the community in Blüdhaven, trying to use all his resources to help people. So basically not much changes here.

Barbara Gordon

This one’s easy, just make her Oracle all the time- in the most bad dads way possible. Give me paralyzed Barbara Gordon who has eyes and ears all over the world and is the center of ALL super hero activity. She leads the Birds of Prey, she’s in the ears of all the bats, she’s IT for the Justice League- she does all of it.

Jason Todd

I liked Jason’s character best when he serves as an antagonist. Jason goes back to being a crime lord, and we bring back his ideals of trying to control the crime as opposed to trying to stop it. Jason has good intentions, but he lacks the idealism of the other bats who are constantly trying to save the city without compromising any morals. I think that Jason often butts heads with Tim and Cass (mostly Cass due to her very strict no killing rule) but is mostly left alone by Steph and Damian, who are more willing to accept his methods even if they don’t love them.

Tim Drake

Tim should travel the world “conspiracy hunting,” kind of like how he took down the League of Assassins, except he probably chills out on the blowing up bases all around the world that might (definitely) have people inside. Tim is supposed to be the best detective of the Robins, so lean into that- I want globe trotting - mentally unwell - detective stories where Tim fights big secret organizations or takes down corrupt governments. He is also still apart of Young Justice, though they are all a bit older and are a less official group, the core four are still close and work together- they help keep Tim grounded and remember that he doesn’t have to do everything alone.

Stephanie Brown

I think Stephanie kind of separates herself from the batfamily after her time as Batgirl. I don’t mean that she give up fighting crime, or even gives up wearing the bat symbol, I just mean that she becomes a mostly solo act. Steph becomes Gothams main hero, she does normal vigilante stuff, patrolling the streets, saving the city, detective work, the typical bat stuff. But she’s far more connected to the people of Gotham than Batman ever was, stopping and talking to kids, handing out blankets to the homeless, doing cool flips and batarang trick shots for civilians passing by. Eventually she is the hero most Gothamites associate with their city, and she represents the good parts of Gotham- giving the people hope that they aren’t doomed to be consumed by the city, but that they will be stronger because of it. I also think that things are kinda awkward between her and the bats (except for Dick, Damian, and Barbara) and she tries to keep her distance a bit, considering she was kinda treated like shit as Spoiler and i think Steph deserves to be bitter about that, for a little bit at least.

Cass

Cass becomes Batman, but she operates globally. She’s not like early-Bruce batman who stayed in Gotham, she’s more similar to later batman. She’s in the league, she goes on funky missions to space or other dimensions sometimes, she fights the world ending threats that someone with no powers really should have no business fighting. She also works frequently with Tim and they do some fun little espionage stuff. And while she does return to Gotham, she’s mostly content to leave the city to Steph now- except for all the times she gets into fights with Jason, it bothers her that Steph rarely messes with his operation.

Damian

I really love the idea of Damian getting more into the magical part of DC, I think he should absolutely end up with a Justice League Dark team and learn to do cool magic shit. He goes on a training montage quest like Bruce did, except he’s learning all about magic and demons and cool stuff like that. He has cool magic swords and is sort of the connection between the more grounded part of the universe and the magic parts. He also does a fair bit of globe trotting, looking for ancient mystical artifacts or magical worlds and stuff like that.

Duke Thomas

Duke also mostly stays in Gotham, he’s kinda doing his own thing as The Signal- he still operates during the daytime meaning he doesn’t cross paths with Steph or Jason too often on patrol. There’s not much to change here because Duke is already unique in that he 1- operates during the day and 2- is the only meta-bat, so I don’t need to make a niche for him, DC just needs to use him more.

Random Stuff

- Duke is starting college and takes night classes at Gotham U, Steph is also still in college and is graduating soon

- Tim is either Red Robin, or operating under a new name (I think the Vulture or Condor would be kinda cool but idk)

- The Batfam does not get along like a real family, they are dramatic bitches who fight all the time and have cannot all be in the same room

- Damian and Steph are super close, she was the first person to insist on treating him like a child, which he hated but now that he’s older is grateful for (but he’ll never admit it)

- Damian also sees Dick as his father figure, Bruce is just kinda also there

- Bruce, Alfred, Damian, and Cass all live at the manor- but Damian and Cass are rarely there as they travel a lot and got shit to do

- Barbara lives in the clock tower, she technically lives alone but usually one of Cass, Dick, Dinah, or Helena will be crashing there

- Steph lives alone in the same house she grew up in, her Mom has moved to California or something for a fresh start as she is finally sober, but at this point Steph doesn’t need her. It’s very sad as Steph never truly had a mother, but she’s happy that Crystal is getting another chance away from Gotham.

- Duke swears he’s seen Jason at night classes at Gotham U, but Jason won’t admit it

- The only ones Jason talks to semi-frequently are Dick and Tim, the relationships are super rocky though. Dick sees Jason as his brother first, and since he’s in Blüdhaven he tries not to concern himself with Jason’s business. Tim and Jason do fight a bit but Tim is more lenient than Cass so he can tolerate Jason’s shit if he feels like it’s for the best.

This ask is really cute! I hope you don’t mind that I’m going to focus on Starish/Quartet Night. I really need to start looking into Heavens more, but I don’t have much time as of late…

So, in short, here’s how I’d rank the characters:

By “Normal”, I mean that those four would simply stay home and rest until they’re better, accepting help with minimal complaint (unless someone goes too far.)

The “Powers Through It” Pair:

I nearly put Ai in “normal”, before I remembered the fact that he is a little reckless with himself. He has powered through a malfunction until a job could be finished, after all.

While Camus powers through due to his own pride. He’d be on the appropriate medicines, but he’s been shown to be a little naive about health matters, so I do think he’d underestimate how important resting is while sick.

Tokiya:

I don’t think his chronic overworking ever went away. And it kicks in almost instinctively when he’s sick. He would need reminders (or pushing) to finally rest.

“It Depends”:

Cecil and Reiji feel like they’d be in a similar boat. They’re “Normal” when single, but needy when with somebody.

I was almost surprised that I categorized Reiji as “normal when single”, but, he cares closely for his physical health. He wouldn’t overwork himself when sick (he’s unlikely to get sick in the first place though, due to how careful he is!)

Ren on the other hand, is unused to being cared for, so he really wouldn’t impose on anyone until a loved one offers. He borders on “powering through” when single, but when he’s with someone, he’s definitely clingier. Not whiny exactly, but he would find ways to let you know he needs the attention.

Based entirely on the fanarts I've seen on my dash, or what Rhyme has told me of plot points — my current impressions and speculations on the Homestuck characters:

Karkat is angry and insecure and a little tsundere. He really wants to be cool and awesome and have people look up to him, but instead he just thinks everyone else is cooler than him so he gets very loud about it

Nepeta is maybe your typical catgirl/fangirl type character? Cute and feisty, maybe kinda nosy and pushy. I could probably draw her with some level of accuracy from memory, but I don't have a very deep impression on her personality or story

Either Eridan or Equis (I think it's actually Eridan but I had him crossed with Equius as Nepeta's moirail(?)), going almost entirely off of his design and nothing else I have the mental image of his as the sort of stern, thinks their so smart, often kinda suave and hot character archetype, except he'd come off as more full of himself than hot

Gamzee? I think? Is the purple clown guy? And I have been imagining him as like. Off-putting. In a hard to describe way. Maybe like a middle aged alcoholic sort of vibe. His clown make up makes it look like he has a five o'clock shadow. I think everyone's thirteen in canon tho so like.

Vriska is manipulative (and violent maybe? I've heard all trolls are kinda violent tho) and needs to be the center of attention. Maybe kind of an evil mastermind type character, but like, in a misunderstood maladjusted thirteen year old girl way. Maybe more just a toxic friend or bully. Unsure. She's definitely got something complicated going on with the whole morality thing given her reputation. Is she Terezi's girlfriend? Who also blinded her? Oh and she's also a pirate. And maybe obsessed with legacy and family?

I don't think I know any of the other trolls well enough to have impressions of them. I just looked at an image of all the trolls and I had so many of their names and faces crossed. Apparently Aradia and Terezi are different characters. And so are Kanaya and Vriska. And Equius and Eridan, but that already came up.

Actually I did kinda know Kanaya and Vriska were different I just assigned them both the same face/hair. Kanaya is Rose's girlfriend? She's the most human-typical-feminine of the trolls, and also a lesbian, and that's just about my entire impression of her.

One of either Kanaya, Vriska, or Terezi used lipstick as blood one time. And another one of them thought it was super hot

Looking at their sprites, Sollux and Equius both look like the kind of gamer guys who get told to use more deodorant. I think Sollux has more card gamer who is constantly explaining the rules and niche plays to people who don't really care but are to polite to tell him to shut up vibes. Partially because the last name "Captor" sounds like an on the nose name for a pokemon card game player

Jane is like. Nice? But also cool. And nerdy. And lonely. Very lonely. She's like, even more homeschooled and an orphan than the rest of them. I kind of think of her as a fairly typical nice kinda nerdy girl character, but also very much able and willing to kick you if needed. She's another one I could draw better than I could explain her personality

Dave is cool. Theoretically probably not legit-cool, because everyone here is thirteen. But he wears fancy sunglasses and I think he's also the guy from that one backflipping-off-the-sword post ("motherfucking pirouette of the handle" I think is what rhymes said). Also his brother sucks so bad and he doesn't realize this until super far into the story. I kinda think of him as everything Karkat wishes he was, given what little I know about the two having something going on with them. But he's also still thirteen. So like. He's still not actually that cool he's just good at faking it. He's also the edgy teen kind of cool so he's maybe kinda offensive sometimes

Rose and John I have actually met and remember from the not even two hundred pages of Homestuck I've actually read. Rose is a lot more faux psychologist than I expected I think I expected her to be more of a legit put together big sister friend sort of character. John has actually been pretty much exactly how I expected him to be so far. He's kinda cute tbh, his smiley faces are adorable

There's also like, the whole alpha/beta versions of the cast? But I only know Roxy from that so I'm not gonna do any of them

so I never finished Heroes of Olympus but also I never liked Percy/Annabeth in PJO (……. which makes me an outcast I know) my reasons were silly but I was like 13 when I read the first series. (something something she was too mean to MY Percy and he deserved better) ALL this is to say, I’m curious on your opinion of HoO Percy/Annabeth:

so first off, you should definitely finish HoO !! i'm not a huge stickler for "you have to read all of the source material" (because i haven't read past the first ToA book), and HoO is really only Peak Literature if you're like 14 (not to say adults can't like it obv, i do, but when you get older you notice some glaring flaws lol). that being said, you should still finish it, it has its rises & falls. i for one have been rereading son of neptune (very very slowly) & listening along to the newest olympian podcast. but anyways

i honestly can relate to your take on being young & having a book boyfriend & feeling overprotective of him lol. when i was like 14 & first reading HoO, i felt that way with leo when calypso was treating him like absolute garbage...like that's my little guy lol

so my take on percabeth is kind of a, "like it more than i don't, not overly invested in a fandom sense, take it or leave it" on the tier list. i enjoyed their development in PJO despite the moments where annabeth did give him a bit of a hard time, etc. they had a close friendship & trusted each other & i think it developed into a nice relationship (i will say them getting together the morning after annabeth's older brother figure/childhood crush/war rival Died is some Unhinged romantic timing on Richard's part, but i get that ya gotta wrap up the book & the underwater kiss was still cute, etc).

that being said, i understand how they were seperated in HoO & circumstances were desperate, but obv the judo flip scene was just...ick. i think i saw a post somewhere that rewrote it to where she pulled her knife on him, he pulled his sword on her, the romans got freaked out & then they just kinda half-play sparred with no winner, and that helped percy gain back some of his memories, which i think was a sweet rewrite. but anyways.

in the rest of the HoO books they're just kinda...wildly codependant with no individual personalities. annabeth needs percy to save her in battle because it's not like she's been training Longer than he has, and percy needs annabeth's wisdom because Obviously he has none of his own, Right?? (someone save percy from the stupid allegations i can't do it in these conditions Richard—this is all your fault Richard & the fandom Is Not Helping—)

all in all i think Richard's just...not good at writing established relationships as opposed to build up, which is funny because he pairs so many ships off-page & then we gotta see the amalgamations for the rest of the books (someone save solangelo i can't i need a cig—)

also for the record i think perachel is underrated. i think there was a point in tlo where percy admitted in the narrative that hanging out with rachel was more carefree than hanging out with annabeth, and that's kind of the ideal you would want in a partner.

so i'll take them or not, i like fanart & cute hc's with them & having them as a background pair. i don't see myself writing anything with them unless it's like a request or something though. i ship both of them with other people more in a Fandom sense, remaining a casual fan of percabeth. i know there's a niche group in the pjo fandom that are anti-percabeth & say annabeth is abusive—i'm not gonna say that's a lie or the truth or anything, i can see where they're coming from but i can see the other side of it too.

so yeah, that's pretty much my unorganized ramblings on percabeth ! thanks for asking !!
