The New Colossus ~ Emma Lazarus ~ The Statue of Liberty
The New Colossus[1] was written in capital letters and memorialized in 1903 with a bronze plaque placed on the inner walls of the Statue of Liberty’s pedestal. It is currently displayed for all to see in the Statue of Liberty Museum. Emma Lazarus wrote these words in 1883. It reads: “NOT LIKE THE GREEK GIANT, WITH CONQUERING LIMBS ASTRIDE FROM LAND TO LAND; HERE AT OUR SEA-WASHED, SUNSET GATES…

#OTD in 1891 – Annie Moore departs Queenstown (now Cobh, Co Cork), becoming the first immigrant to pass through Ellis Island.
Annie Moore stood in line with her two younger brothers, Philip and Anthony. They were waiting to board the SS Nevada, a ship that would take them from Ireland to New York. Even though she was sad, she was also excited about seeing her parents again. They had gone to America two years earlier with her older brother. Her parents had jobs in New York. They did not like the big city, but they had an…

Lady Liberty, by Roxy Rose (aka Neo-Girl). There’s no date on this piece, because the artist is constantly updating it with things that matter to her.

Movie Review: Ghostbusters 2
Movie Review: Ghostbusters 2 (1989) directed by Ivan Reitman It has been five years since the Ghostbusters saved New York City, and by extension the world, from the threat of Gozer the Gozerian. Due to the massive destruction caused by their struggle, the team was sued by multiple government agencies for the damage. At the same time, a drastic drop in paranormal activity allowed rumors spread by…

I plan on spending a week in Philly for new years and saw some tours on trip advisors. I thought that’d be a good idea for me to get a feel more for the space in Philly and areas so I can hopefully get ideas on where to go when I can finally move there.
Obviously the tours aren’t going to be in most residential areas, but I want the week I spend there to be a way for me to get a feel of what living in the city would be like. And a way for me to explore what areas I’d ideally like to be relatively close to.
As soon as I get my car, I want to join some art/writers groups in Philly, some other interests groups too, and make some friends. Hopefully, I can get ideas on where to move from them, and have some people to explore those areas with so I can get ideas of better neighborhoods.
Ideally, I was going to rent a place close to university city because those are cheaper and I figured most criminals aren’t going to mess too much with wealthy college students from out of the city that could cause issues if you hurt them. I’m young enough to look like a student still, so I may at least get left alone there. But I really don’t want to live in a building with a bunch of loud ass kids. Noise is already going to be a bit of an issue living in a city (I don’t mind noise but at night if it’s incessant, I’m going to commit murder), so I’d like a place decent on rent with solid walls (older building would be great for that but I worry they’ll either be run down in the hood or super expensive in historical areas), and a proper kitchen and bathroom. I’d love a tub but modern apartments aren’t doing that often.
Either way, tours make sense! So when I start planning that week, I’m going to look for at least two tours I can do for funsies.

Travel to New York
Embark on a whirlwind tour of New York City, a vibrant metropolis pulsating with energy and iconic landmarks. Start at Times Square, a dazzling nexus of entertainment, shopping, and Broadway theaters. Marvel at the Statue of Liberty, an enduring symbol of freedom, as you cruise past on the Staten Island Ferry.
Explore Central Park's lush greenery, a tranquil oasis in the heart of the bustling city, and stroll down Fifth Avenue for world-class shopping. Ascend the Empire State Building for panoramic views of the skyline, then visit the poignant 9/11 Memorial and Museum to pay respects to the tragic events of September 11, 2001.
Immerse yourself in the cultural richness of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and traverse the diverse neighborhoods like Chinatown and Little Italy for a taste of global cuisine. Cap off your day with the neon brilliance of the city lights at the Top of the Rock observation deck. New York City's dynamic blend of history, culture, and modernity ensures an unforgettable experience in the city that never sleeps.
