Spider-Man tries to calm the angry mob who are lynching the pizza delivery man as he is mistaken for a mutant (or just a pro-mutant human). The Stark Sentinel scans the pizza delivery man and finds that the man is not a mutant. Unfortunately, Spider-Man gets scanned by the Sentinel which claimed that he is a mutant even though he is just a science-based mutate, not a mutant. It seems that the Stark Sentinels are starting to target the superhumans too, besides mutants. The angry mob turns on Spider-Man for being a "mutant". Kurt Wagner had been watching on the rooftop and debating with the Ghost Bamf until he sees Mystique aiming her bazooka at the angry mob. Kurt goes down to teleport the bazooka missile to the Sentinel, saving Spider-Man, the pizza man and the angry human mob. Mystique is still on her irrational mind that Kurt had to chase his mother to the alley.

Exodus is French, lol

Exodus (Bennett Du Paris) became a lot more sympathetic and interesting in the first Krakoan age - pretty damn funny too. Even more so if you realise, as I just have, that he should be speaking with a French accent. (Well, Old French or one of the Languages D'Oil but let's just go with modern French bc it's funnier and I wasn't alive in the 12th century.)

Exodus being the most dramatic bitch alive (yeah that's right, even more than Magneto - though it is close. He's not acting below, he's deadly serious and I love it) tearing Stark Sentinels to atoms while screaming this...

... is so much funnier when you realise it's in a heavy French accent. I think it's because the two animated X-Men shows are seared into my brain, where everyone talks like Wheeler from Captain Planet. Would Gambit and his fake ass french accent feel threatened or even jealous maybe? Fantomex probably would but he's not involved with the X-Men anymore.

Who's next? Who will dare taste the blade of mutant truth? They're robots, frère, though as someone who talks smack to inanimate objects I understand.

Tony Stark is ready to go into battle and decides to deliver a present to his wife Emma Frost who is preparing for her role in the upcoming mission. Before Tony could say goodbye to Emma, he hears the scream coming from the Hellfire Club. As he rushes in, Tony sees a mysterious figure wearing a motorcycle helmet and claws, standing over the bodies of the Hellfire guards. Tony Stark tries to fend off the mysterious assassin but without his armor, it was too difficult for him. However, as Tony Stark burns the assassin with improvised molotov cocktail, the assassin reveals itself as not only just a robot, but also another type of Sentinel (a.k.a Sentinel Zero) which Feilong had sent to get rid of him. Kingpin helps Tony by tossing the Mysterium Staff to him in fending off the robotic assassin. Unfortunately, the staff was knocked aside from Tony's hands and he gets slashed by the robot.

Then, Emma Frost intervenes as she is in diamond form and she stalls the Sentinel Zero while Tony Stark goes to the armory despite bleeding from his wound. While donning the new armor, the fight doesn't seem to go well for Emma as Sentinel Zero had found a way to cheat the fight by putting on the Inhibitor Ring on her finger, depowering Emma. Before Emma could get killed by Sentinel Zero, Tony Stark arrives in his new armor and destroys Sentinel Zero by crushing the robotic head. As the couple leave the Hellfire Club, they see the Stark Sentinel arriving at the entrance. Fortunately, both Emma and Tony are more prepared as they destroy the Stark Sentinel by blasting it.

Have views changed on sentinels at all? That is to say, when they first come out in universe vs now is there a larger group of humans thatre rallying and protesting against sentinels both in useage and imagery , or is there unfortunately a widespread tolerance for sentinels and shoulder shrug at best whenever a new model comes out. So in-universe, Sentinels are traditionally rather controversial, both because of the issues they raise about prejudice and equal rights, but also because of their tendency to revolt against their human masters that led to the deaths of Bolivar and Larry Trask. On the other hand, humans frequently blamed mutants for the violence caused by Sentinels, so the Sentinels were a potent symbol of anti-mutant prejudice used by anti-mutant groups.

This changed somewhat in the wake of M-Day, when President Bush established by executive order the Office of National Emergency (ONE) and created the Sentinel Squad O.N.E as part of the U.S Government's national security infrastructure. Built by Tony Stark and led by James Rhodes under oversight from (the bitch) Val Cooper, these Mark VIII Sentinels were designed as mecha as opposed to robots as a way to avoid the whole Skynet scenario that had happened repeatedly in the past. (Notably, Tony would go on to build Stark Sentinels again during AXIS, because he would rather die than learn from his past mistakes.)

This use of Sentinels continued under SHIELD Director Tony Stark and HAMMER Director Norman Osborn, as well as through O.N.E and the Commission on Superhuman Activities. In addition to the Sentinel Squad, we have Juston Seyfert as part of Avengers Academy, etc. So for a period of about seven years' publication time, Sentinels were periodically accepted and used by the U.S national security state and promoted as a symbol of national protection and defense.

Shortly prior to Fall of X, Tony's tech would be used by Feilong when he took over Stark Unlimited to build ORCHIS a fleet of fully robotic Stark Sentinels. (And it should be noted that ORCHIS was founded by ex-AIM, SHIELD, STRIKE, SWORD, ARMOR, HAMMER, and other national security agencies as well as HYDRA.) And yes, ORCHIS used Stark's branding as part of the Culture/Narrative petal's project of justification and legitimation.

First of the month, time to update some fics since NaNo has ended…

Everything changed for Tony Stark in a cave in Afghanistan.  For years he’s been dealing with the fallout of the shrapnel imbedded in his chest—both physical and mental—in his own ways. He’s got an arc reactor in his chest and demons that stalk him in his mind as he becomes Iron Man and eventually an accepted part of the Avengers during the attack on New York City.

All he has to do is keep giving people what they want.  That’s the lesson learned. 

Die, resurrect, live as much as you can. Wash, rinse, repeat.  He thought he’d known why he was the way he was… but he and everyone else missed one tiny little detail caused by his repetitive brushes with death. 

Or, a guide coming online as he almost dies yet again at the hand of a friend shatters the controls put upon the Winter Soldier and sends Sentinel James Buchanan Barnes fully online and into a feral rage in the middle of Siberia. 

Steve’s lucky T’Challa’s there to rescue him from his best friend gone feral.

T'Challa wakes before Erik. He exhausted his sentinel last night, pushing them both to the point where there hadn't been any residual resistance in their bond, which hums strongly between them.  

That lingering resistance had been maddening. A constant tug and irritation that he didn't have his sentinel fully because they'd been interrupted before they could complete the bond like they had last night. 

He shouldn't have listened to his mother or Zuri for so long—he'd hurt his sentinel with his reticence. The one thing an orphan from California hadn't needed from his true-match guide was hesitation because he wasn't one of them.

jillyjames writes some really great sentinel fusion stories and tony dinozzo of ncis is her unicorn. my favourite of her sentinel works is by far a MCU crossover called Stick Around and its sequel Demons. The battle of new york scene remains one of my favourite fanfic action scenes i’ve ever read.
