Watching a documentary about veterinary medicine in zoos and this must be what Starfleet doctors have to deal with all the time, huh? Hundreds to thousands of patients, dozens to hundreds of species, limited information, and equipment that is so totally not designed for any of this. Visiting a new planet? Great, now you might have to treat a species you've never heard of before let alone met. Have fun, hope you're good at improvising. At least they can talk to you, unless of course the translator's broken again. Or they don't communicate that way.

I really feel for Bones in the Horta episode - this creature is made of ROCKS! He probably had no idea a living being could be made of rocks until, surprise, it's his patient. Better figure that shit out fast.
