The Battle of Jakku Last Stand #4
I like how the "Last Stand" of the Battle of Jakku, glosses over the last stand of the battle of Jakku. They literally say that fighting went on for months. So what we just read wasn't actually the last stand. It was more like the first stand. I will say that the fighting was exciting and I am glad that this event is finally over...

BnHA 6th Popularity Poll Reaction Post - Risky Spoiler-Dodging Edition
hey guys, so seeing as the results from the 6th popularity poll were leaked today, I figured I would do a separate reaction + analysis post this year, rather than piling it in as an extra on top of the chapter reaction post tomorrow. I figure this makes more sense anyway, since they’re really two completely different things. also this way I can write as much as I want lol.
also, just fyi, I am still completely unspoiled for chapter 293. and probably the smart thing to do to keep it that way would be to log off tumblr and hold off posting this until tomorrow, but I apparently have no impulse control today so oh well. anyway, so I’m hoping you guys will keep this spoiler-free if you don’t mind! as always, I would prefer to just jump right in completely unaware tomorrow like Troy returning to the study room with the pizza boxes lol.
okay so this first part is just going to be my predictions. fyi I am writing this part on Wednesday night, and then I’ll add on the results part on Thursday or Friday (ETA: Thursday, apparently, since I am impatient.)
okay so first of all, just as a refresher, this poll was open to Japanese voters from Aug 3 to Sep 30. meaning chapters 279 through 285. meanwhile last year’s poll took place around the tail end of the MVA arc. so between then and now we had Heroes Rising, the Endeavor Agency arc, and the War arc up to the part where the 1-A kids took on Gigantomachia in Gunga, and started battling Tomura in Jakku. so technically only a couple of arcs, but a LOT of stuff going down in them. oh and season 4 of the anime as well
so! firstly, I predict that my truculent africanized honeybee son will hold on to his crown at #1, coming off a year in which he did some internship-boosted soul searching, borrowed OFA in movie canon, and finished out the voting period as the my-body-moved-on-its-own character development MVP. like CALL ME CRAZY lol, but I’m pretty sure his title is safe. and then after him will be Deku and Shouto as usual
Aizawa should hopefully also have a strong showing because the dude had a banner fucking year. reunited with his old dead friend, took on Tomura with his hopelessly inept hero pals, and then chopped his fucking leg off. he had better be in the top 10. his fucking leg died for this, idk what else he has to do
Endeavor also stands a decent chance of doing well given the internship arc and the final episode of season 4. which I’m sure will go down just swimmingly if that does happen lmao. especially if he somehow manages to rank higher than...
Dabi, which I don’t think he will btw, but you never know. anyways though, but I’m thinking Dabi’s going to have a stronger showing than in past years (in the last poll he only got 367 votes and was ranked 19th). mostly because of his fight in the Gunga mansion, and his cheekily censored name reveal to...
Hawks, who is also going to rank pretty high here, I think. might be he loses some points for killing off Twice, but his back was basically to the wall there. and he has always been very popular, and I think season 4 will also give him a boost, along with his heavy involvement in the first half of the War arc
Tomura was already in 6th place last year and I think he cracks the top 5 this year. he’s gotten exponentially more popular since the MVA arc, and got a boost in the last poll even though his flashback had only just barely happened, and he hadn’t finished Awakening yet and all that stuff. anyway, so he’s only gotten cooler and more tragic since then so I think he makes a big play here
Kirishima, Momo, Tokoyami, and Mina should also hopefully do well, since the poll opened right in the middle of all that Gigantomachia action, and Toko had just got done being an absolute badass and protecting his birb dad. I don’t think he’ll quite make it to the top ten, but he should
and last but not least, I’m hoping that Mirko will come out and take the polls by storm, although I have no clue how popular she is in Japan lol. she’s clearly Horikoshi’s favorite though. she SHOULD be everyone’s favorite, but I mean, we’ll see how it goes
anyway that’s it as far as predictions! and so now, through the magic of writing stuff at different times, we will fast-forward to the part where we actually find out the results!
Tumblr media
OH MY GOD YES, STEAMPUNK KHLKSLLKL. HERE FOR IT. JOLLY GOOD SHOW. 5 STARS
Kacchan looks SO COCKY and SO HAPPY and SO ADORABLE, YES I SAID IT. he is adorable as FUCK. I don’t quite know what it is about this particular Kacchan that just screams “LOOK HOW FUCKING CUTE MY STUPID, LOUD SON IS WITH HIS BIZARRE WINDOWPANE-LOOKING CONVERTIBLE SUNGLASS GOGGLES and his POORLY TIED CRAVAT”, but I think it’s because he looks like if a Digimon character and a FMA character had a baby
anyway, so it looks like most of the people present here are more or less who we expected to see. except that I can’t tell for sure if that’s Dabi or Shindou, and if it’s Shindou I’m going to punch somebody in the face so you will have to excuse me
Iida wearing a TRENCHCOAT and a TOP HAT with ENGINE EXHAUST GOGGLE ACCENTS is my new favorite Iida of all time. take note how there is no possible way he can wear those goggles with them sitting on top of his hat like that. plus he’s already got glasses on. these are just purely for aesthetic and IF THAT AIN’T JUST THE STEAMPUNK WAY
Deku out here speaking softly and carrying a lead pipe. Kacchan you best look out. seems like he’s done watching you take first place year after year while he languishes in the number two spot. your only hope is that he trips while attacking you because his boots are unbuckled
Shouto’s standing over there with the rest of the non-first-and-second-place characters, but what are the odds his results are actually within spitting distance of Deku’s same as always. anyway he doesn’t mind, though. also his outfit is by far the most sensible one here, but if you look closely he’s got some sort of fire extinguisher/jet pack thing strapped to his back that’s got a control switch on his belt. Shouto are you jetpacking or putting out fires
Kirishima out here all “I’m not sure what steampunk is so I’m just going to take off my shirt and pose”
AIZAWA WITH THE EYEPATCH SKLKSDLKFJLSKJLDFKJSLDFFJLDKSJFL:KS. SIR. SIR. also, lowkey furious that Horikoshi refuses to show us the automail leg that he is clearly sporting here but which we just can’t see, SHOUTO MOVE GODDAMMIT
Endeavor has TWO fire extinguisher-slash-jetpacks. THE BETTER TO... WHATEVER. look at you here in the top ten again. you really live for that controversy
HAWKS OUT HERE WITH HIS STEAMPUNK BEATS BY DRE AND HIS WEARING A RING ON EVERY FINGER. nice to see you’ve still got your wings there, kiddo. then again Deku still has both of his arms too so who even knows what is going on
BUT SERIOUSLY THOUGH, IS THIS DABI OR SHINDOU. as if I don’t know the truth deep down in my heart. y’all I am gonna flip lmao. it’s not that I dislike Shindou, strictly speaking. but just... I can’t explain what it is, but if you put him and AFO next to each other and told me “you can only punch one”, I would be having a serious crisis. just, THIS FUCKING GUY, idek. STOP SMILING
Tomura looks like he just wandered onto the set here by mistake and has no idea where he is or what is going on. it’s because you’re wearing a bigass severed hand that’s blocking your entire view, Tomura. just take the hand off your face my sweet murder dumpling
anyway! so I managed to also find a link to the full poll results while somehow managing to avoid spoilers, and then I wanted to compare the results to last year’s poll, and so I made... this
Tumblr media
hopefully you can all see this. if you’re on desktop you might be screwed, but on mobile you should be able to click and enlarge it. I mean, assuming you actually give a fuck about boring poll analysis spreadsheets lmao
anyway, so there were actually 13k fewer votes cast this year which is a bit of a surprise. is the series not still growing in popularity? do people apparently have better things to do during their quarantine lol
anyways but despite this, and despite getting 8k fewer votes overall, Kacchan still managed almost twice as many as his closest competitor. well fought, Deku. please put down that pipe
I somehow always underestimate the power of ship popularity to influence these things. but for example, it looks like Present Mic got that Vigilantes Trio bump. ride that wave for all it’s worth my man! hell, you got me on board
Iida fucking Tenya somehow got some sort of POWER BOOST out of NOWHERE which I can’t explain at all lmao, but I’m here for it. NOT BAD FOR AN OLD MAN
Sero managed to get the exact same number of votes in both 2019 and 2020. clearly the most loyal fans in the business
Mirko being all the way down at #20 is, of course, a travesty, and I hereby nominate her to be the one to punch Shindou in the face
ngl though, the lack of a single female character in the top ten hurts just a bit. it’s not overly surprising, but still. the worst part of it is that even if you kicked Shindou to the curb and moved everyone else up one slot, it would still be all dudes since Mic beat out Momo by a margin of a little more than a hundred votes. hard to stay mad at Mic for too long, though. ah well
Tomura actually lost a bunch of votes which is a genuine surprise to me. I know the villain standom isn’t as dominant in Japan as it is in Western fandom, but still. you can go ahead and punch Shindou too I guess
Tokoyami lowkey doubled his vote count over the past year while hiding down there at #18. he is slowly becoming more powerful. biding his time
anyway so I think that’s it! I mean not really, but I’m getting kind of tired lol. so just, you know, insert the usual gripes at Overhaul’s ranking here, although we can be happy about Magne making her way onto the list (r.i.p.), and Mineta and AFO taking a very satisfying slide down (all the way out, in AFO’s case; good riddance you bum). Hadou also got a huge boost which is awesome. Mustard’s persistent ownership of the #36 spot will forever remain a mystery to me, but oh well
anyways, this was fun. and I really do feel like everyone is looking away on purpose so that when Deku brains Kacchan with that pipe in about two seconds from now, there will be no witnesses, oh my fucking god

Rey’s and Ben’s death or Healing of the inner wound (TRoS meta)
In TRoS, Rey and Ben finally heal each other. Ben’s death is not inflicting a new wound on Rey, on the contrary, it helps her become whole and truly alive. Hear me out:
Ben is the first of the two to complete his inner journey, with Rey’s help, of course. His inner wound, so to speak, was him being “torn apart” - indecisive and in constant doubt of himself, undeserving of love in his own mind. Rey stabbing him and thus bringing him close to death, then - out of love - physically restoring him, and the memory of his father Han Solo’s unconditional love finally convince Ben not to battle, but instead to embrace his pull to the light. He gives in and is now “free of this pain” of constantly having to fight himself. It was all but easy for him to get there, but once he fully lets go of “Kylo Ren”, his mental crutch that only ever weakened him, everything becomes a lot more effortless for him (also reflected by the way he carries himself from then on). All his visible, outer wounds/scars are gone, too. Ben, leaving any doubts behind, heads straight to Exegol to help his dyad Rey save herself in return.
He gets to stand before Palpatine with her, but even together they stand no chance against the Emperor’s powers. Palpatine restores himself by feeding on the strength of their connection and then tosses Ben, who recovers first from the Emperor’s assault, into the pit surrounding the throne area.
Rey awakes some moments later and witnesses Palpatine destroying the remaining Resistance ships in the battle raging above. “Be with me“, she begs the spirits of all the Jedi, and they come to her, assuring her that she is not alone, that they and the Force are with her always. She rises from the ground and manages to destroy Palpatine by using Leia’s and Anakin’s/Luke’s saber. After the Emperor’s demise by his own force lightening directed back at him the structure of the Sith building comes crashing down. After the dust has settled, we see Rey looking around - probably looking for something or someone? The lightsabers drop from her exhausted hands; she collapses and dies (a cut to Finn who notices her passing in the Force states that quite explicitly).
Rey does not “become one with the Force” (= physically vanish) though, implying that she was not fully at peace. Now why is that? I would like to think that it’s because her wound - the trauma of being left behind for good, feeling alone, the fear of being unloved - still persists. She has defeated Palpatine and saved the Resistance with the help of the Jedi. But that was not healing, rather the opposite, because the Jedi leave her afterwards and she is on her own again. Ben is gone, too, even though he had come to be with her before. She dies in a moment of utter loneliness.
Tumblr media
Her eyes are open in death, still looking, still waiting. In The last Jedi, she reached out to Ben in her most desperate hour (after returning from that cave without having found answers).
Tumblr media
Lying dead, she has that same (right) hand stretched out, open. Her left hand touches upon the leather armband that covers her wound/scar from the Praetorian Guard fight - the scar that looks like two hands reaching out to one another. But there’s no one here now to reach back and to assure her that she’s not alone. Therefore she can’t let go of her fear and become one with the Force.
This could have been the sad ending of her, if not for Ben Solo. He comes back only for her and gifts her with a new life, because that’s what he wants and wishes with all his heart. There is no conflict or hesitation on his side whatsoever, only love, and Rey can feel and actually witness that. Ben becoming one with the Force after dying is the ultimate proof of him having attained peace and purpose at last. He dies at peace because 1) he became Ben Solo again/reconciled with his father 2) he succeeded in bringing Rey back 3) bonus: she loves him back (hence the kiss).
And not only does he bring her back to life, he heals her inner wound (the feeling/fear of being left behind and all alone), too. That is because Ben’s act of saving her leads Rey to understand and feel that 1) she is truly loved 2) her wellbeing means everything to someone 3) most importantly, love sometimes is to let someone (Ben) go, respectively leave someone (Rey) behind 4) someone believes in her 5) her life has a meaning and makes a difference.
ad 3) The shocking thing is indeed him loving her more than anything and at the same time departing happily, fully at peace - as testified by him becoming one with the Force. Rey witnesses that and is thus shown that there must also be a way to stay behind and be at peace (eventually), simply because there is/was a love so strong it left no place for fears of letting go.
ad 4) How does Ben believe in Rey? He wants her to be alive and at peace, and in the moment of his death he is certain that Rey will be both one day - otherwise he would not have passed peacefully. So Rey knows that Ben truly thinks she can (eventually) also be at peace or even happy after his death. This will inspire her to be confident about that, too.
As for her being potentially lonely without her soulmate: No one can replace Ben for her. But there are definitely people around her who care about her. I like to think that without Ben she would never have got to meet Finn and Poe again, for example. As a matter of fact Ben always knew about her friends and was, in the end, quite possibly even glad about her having them to return to. Should Rey open up about herself and Ben Solo to them, their friendship would surely become stronger, more honest and intimate.
Self-exile, or loneliness by choice, has always been a major theme in Star Wars btw. Why not choose companionship, for a change? Rey’s loneliness on Jakku was originally not by choice until it became a self-imposed restriction (to simply not leave and keep waiting forever). She has made huge progress since then, but I think she’s still got some potential, considering her somewhat tense and distant relationship with her Resistance buddies especially at the beginning of TRoS. Her next logical step and character-growth would be to actively open up, talk to people, show her feelings. Her crying when meeting Finn and Poe back at the base might already hint in that direction.
Tumblr media
ad 5) Rey will cherish her life even more after someone else (Ben) valued it above literally everything else (compare 2) and would never, ever throw it away or waste it. Because Ben has given her the greatest gift of all - new life -, and only if she finds peace, purpose and, yes, happiness in it, this gift has a genuine meaning. Rey will take care to make it meaningful by itself, for herself, and also in honor of Ben’s memory. Only if she can die in peace after a fulfilled life, then there’s a chance of her finally becoming one with the Force, and also reuniting with her dyad - forever.

10 Best Star Wars Planets in the Galaxy
https://ift.tt/eA8V8J
Like any good space opera, part of the appeal of Star Wars are the beautiful alien vistas. From the wonder of AT-AT’s marching over a snowfield to a massive city floating among the clouds of a gas giant, Star Wars has long transported fans to strange new worlds.
Over the last few decades, the movies and the Expanded Universe have introduced hundreds of planets, moons, and stars to form one of the most complete and complex tapestries of locations in sci-fi. But which are the essential planets of Star Wars? Which planets truly capture the spirit of the franchise?
Here are our picks of the 10 best planets in the Star Wars galaxy:
10. Kamino
The water world of Kamino exemplifies the maximalist approach of the Prequel aesthetic. Giant manta ray-like animals fly up out of the sea, a passing marvel with no explanation or relation to the plot. The Kaminoans aren’t a natively aquatic species, with their long, thin limbs, but they live on platforms like oil rigs, elegant fortresses against the endless ocean.
As the birthplace of the clones, Kamino’s largely desolate surface stands in stark contrast to the work being done inside its labs: giving life to the Clone Army of the Republic. Kamino wasn’t always an aquatic planet, though. At some point in the planet’s history, ecological disaster caused the water levels to rise, forcing the land-based Kaminoan civilization to adapt to their new conditions.
Stream your Star Wars favorites right here!
9. Bespin
When Lando Calrissian flirts with Princess Leia Organa in The Empire Strikes Back, he does so by comparing her to the planet: “You look absolutely beautiful. You truly belong here with us among the clouds.”
Bespin is a gas giant with no accessible land surface, which means, like Kamino, the dwellings aren’t actually on the ground. Instead, Lando and other enterprising people created floating mining facilities to harvest the planet’s Tibanna gas, a vital fuel source for starships and their hyperdrives.
The planet’s function is eclipsed by its scenery, though. The colorful atmosphere makes Bespin look like a planet always basking in all the colors of a sunset, while Cloud City floats like a jewel in its sky.
8. Cato Neimoidia
While it barely pops up in the movies, Cato Neimoidia is nevertheless one of the most exotic locations in the galaxy, in large part due to the design of its alien architecture. City-sized bridges bristle with upside-down skyscrapers, while the dramatic arcs of towns and cities suggest an industrial jungle at surprising angles.
Why does life on Cato Neimoidia look this way? The answer is simple: this planet is covered in acidic seas, meanings the colonists had to build on rock spires and string bridges between them in order to have enough surface area for their cities.
Seen in Revenge of the Sith and The Clone Wars, Cato Neimoidia isn’t actually the homewolrd of the Neimoidians who settled it. Instead, it’s a “purse-world” colony built to store some of the species’ immense wealth. While this isn’t confirmed, it’s easy to imagine the name means “new Neimoidia” or something similar.
7. Zonama Sekot
A living, sentient world with its own psychic manifestation of its environment, Zonama Sekot is one of the strangest planets in the galaxy. Originally created as a prime location in the now non-canon New Jedi Order series of novels, the planet scraped its way back into official continuity on a technicality when an article on StarWars.com mentioned Zonama Sekot was a neighbor to Jakku.
This planet was a surprising place to the Jedi who first visited it, as no one had ever seen anything like a planet-wide consciousness or the living starships built there before. The name refers to two different entities: Zonama the planet and Sekot the consciousness. A peaceful being, Sekot can communicate through the Force and is fiercely protective of the creatures and people who live on Zonama. Those people use the magic of this world to create custom starships of animal-like intelligence that develop a bond with their owners. While a large portion of the planet is covered by jungle, it contains varied vistas like canyons and oceans as well.
6. Crait
Some of the most visually stunning images of the Sequel Trilogy come from the scenes set on Crait’s salt flats. A white crust of salt scrapes away to reveal the bloody-looking dirt underneath.
Created for The Last Jedi, Crait was the site of a First Order attack on the remnants of Leia’s Resistance. It’s also notable for the wildlife, gorgeous crystal foxes called “Vulptex” that sound like wind chimes when they move. At its best, Star Wars often finds a way to connect its characters to their environment, such with the Ewoks who use their forest to their advantage against a technologically advanced Imperial force. Since they’re covered in crystals, the Vulptex look like they could naturally blend into their salty environment. And they’re just so cute.
5. Kashyyyk
Speaking of nature, the Wookiee homeworld of Kashyyyk (that’s three ‘y’s) is covered in forest and jungle. Wookiees use their claws to climb the skyscraper-sized trees. Because the forest floor is patrolled by predators (such as giant spiders) and carnivorous plants dangerous enough to take down even a full-grown Wookiee, civilization takes place mostly on platforms among the trees. These treetop cities (a staple of fantasy classics like The Lord of the Rings) are impressive for both their architectural wonder and how well they blend into nature.
Although it was seen in canon for the first time in Revenge of the Sith, Kashyyyk was technically first detailed in live action in the infamous 1978 The Star Wars Holiday Special.
4. Coruscant
The city-planet of Coruscant captures the intrigue and glamour of the galaxy’s capital. Originally created in the books for the original Thrawn trilogy, Coruscant eventually featured heavily in the Prequel Trilogy and The Clone Wars.
Its mile-high cities mark a planet that has been effectively mechanized, no patch of ground remaining except for the top of a single mountain, now displayed like a boulder in a public park. Coruscant is a jungle gym for high-flying action scenes as well as a hub for political assassinations and the headquarters of the Jedi. When Luke talks about “the bright center of the universe,” that’s Coruscant during the era of the Old Republic.
3. Korriban/Moraband
Few places remain as mysterious as Korriban, the ancient homeworld of the Sith species who spent millennia practicing magic before a faction of renegade dark side Force users escaping a war with the Jedi discovered the planet. Korriban’s native species and these Dark Jedi eventually formed the Sith Order, the greatest enemy of the Jedi. Together, they built a great Sith Empire that waged war against the Republic, with Korriban as its center.
The ancient Sith Empire eventually fell, but Korriban remained as a sacred monument to the order of dark side worshippers. The Valley of the Dark Lords, for example, contained the tombs and relics of the greatest Dark Lords of the Sith, and in some cases, even the Force ghosts of those ancient figures.
While the planet is best known as one of the settings of the Knights of the Old Republic games and the Tales of the Jedi comics, Korriban eventually made its way to the current canon on The Clone Wars, renamed as Moraband.
2. Hoth
While Hoth gets some flak for being a prime example of every science fiction planet having one biome and one only, the Hoth battle plays with scale in a great way. The Rebels build their base underground in the snow and ice, so you never forget they’re on an inhospitable planet where they’ve been forced to hide from the Empire. Here too we have animals as an important part of the plot, with the wampa attack taking Luke Skywalker out of commission. And the Empire deploys one of the most vivid examples of their commitment to shock and awe: the AT-AT walkers, which stride across the plains like monster. At first they’re dwarfed by the landscape, but then they loom over the Rebels, giving their world dimension and scope. The snow-covered landscape creates a stark and uninterrupted landscape for the battle to play out on.
1. Tatooine
The Tunisian desert has become iconic to the galaxy far, far away. Although Tatooine in the fiction is supposedly the middle of nowhere, remarkable for being unremarkable, it’s actual the heart of the entire saga: Anakin Skywalker was born there and Luke Skywalker was raised there. Most characters in the movies have gone there at one time or another, leading to The Rise of Skywalker‘s epilogue where Rey visits Luke’s old home.
The desert has a universal appeal: while it stands in for a far away place for many viewers, many others live in or around a landscape that looks like that. The two suns are distinctly alien, but Tatooine’s towns and people are rural Anywhere. This mix of mundane and magical set the tone for Star Wars that propelled it for the next 40 years and beyond.

Jyn/Cassian, TheyLived!AU :)
I actually haven’t *technically* delved into a true TheyLived!AU before! (my EU! AU is more a same-truth-but-slant-so-they-live approach… “They” in that case being specifically just Jyn & Cassian. I have WAY too many them-in-EU-specific headcanons for anyone’s good especially my own)
But, for these…
Tumblr media
for send me an au and i’ll give you 5 headcanons about it
Rogue One Lives, Straight Up:
1.  Post-Scarif and post close-to-immediate Yavin evacuation, everyone is crammed onto ships of various sizes and capabilities. So, headcanon from the Star Wars variation of real-life slang I came across here:
Hot-bedding// military term was used to describe the practice of having two or three crewmen sharing the same bunk. Usually done on overcrowded ships, hot-bedding forced crewmen to sleep in rotations, so that the bed was always in use by a different being.
(Not the fun kind of bed-sharing, I know, but-) This is how they first learn each others’ sleeping patterns (in Cassian’s case, too often lack thereof; Jyn long ago learned how to catch sleep anywhere) - taking different four-hour shifts in the same bed. (In shifts when only Jyn’s awake, she takes her own approach to Cassian’s current files and projects. A restored K-2SO is offended. Cassian is quietly impressed).
2. Captain Cassian Andor, who has spent most of his career in Alliance Intelligence working in Operations and worked with sometimes easily-emotionally attached recruits before that, is very familiar (on paper; in others) with the emotional comedown from Ops: the spike of feelings after near-death experiences…
When Jyn first hints around making a move, he feels obligated to allude to emotional mission fallout he’s seen before (also subconsciously distrusting how  very well it seems things are going for him…).
Mentioning this? Does not go so well for him.
3.  For more of a natural introvert, Jyn has a surprising knack for clear-cut speeches, so ultimately lays out exactly where they stand before their relationship becomes anything other than a close-talking partnership.
Low tolerance for bullshit also leads her to cut through the ensuing tension sooner rather than later.
4. They’re not on Endor or Jakku during those battles. In fact, they spend the majority of the original trilogy timeline Narrowly Missing our heroes. Some of this is deliberate (while briefly on Hoth at the same time, Jyn *dodges* the princess of Alderaan; Leia’s too busy to notice).
Chirrut in particular thinks this is hilarious. It’s The Force at work. (Luke Skywalker, elsewhere, is Actively Trying to Meet Rogue One and Increasingly Annoyed.)
5. All right if I must embrace the sequel trilogy/Last Jedi timeline:
Fest is in the Outer Rim and, in all timelines, deep in Imperial-remnant territory. The signal for aid sent to contacts reaches the Resistance cell there a day too late - and they’re on the other end of the galaxy from Crait, to do anything about it.
Cassian Andor and Jyn Erso (she never changed her name) don’t have a fleet. (Though they do still have a particular pilot in their crew). They do have the strongest information network running - and a number of ready safe havens, as the Rebel Alliance is reborn.
It’s not like either of them ever stopped being Rebels, anyway.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi (2017) Review
Tumblr media
Can we all just take a moment and accept the fact that Mark Hamill is great......okay, everyone accepted? Cool, onward with the review!
Plot: Rey develops her newly discovered abilities with the guidance of Luke Skywalker, who is unsettled by the strength of her powers. Meanwhile, the Resistance prepares to do battle with the First Order.
With me always saying that I have superhero and Star Wars fatigue, I find myself in the strange scenario where I actually enjoyed ‘The Last Jedi’. I mean, that’s a good thing, but it makes totally walk back against my own words. Anyhow, my main issue with ‘The Force Awakens’ was that it was basically a modern rehashed version of ‘A New Hope’. And enjoyable rehash at that, but a rehash it still was. So, my obvious concern walking into ‘The Last Jedi’ was, “is this gonna be a rehash of ‘Empire Strikes Back’?”. The answer luckily is no, this is actually a fairly fresh film in the franchise, however there are some call-backs to ‘Empire Strikes Back’, most notably the scenes where Luke Skywalker is teaching Rey the Jedi ways where you can easily compare with the Luke and Yoda scenes from ‘Empire’. But besides that ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’ stands comfortably on its own, and I have to say, with all the differences between critics and audiences on this film, with critics praising the hell out of it and audiences (on IMDb especially) giving it mixed to very negative reviews and actually giving it the worst audience Rotten Tomatoes score of all ‘Star Wars’ films, even lower than ‘The Phantom Menace’, to which I honestly have to say “what the f***??” Yes, I agree, ‘The Last Jedi’ is far from a perfect film, it has quite a few issues (which I’ll get into later), but overall its a very enjoyable film with some high-class visual effects, strong performances from the cast and some very praise-worthy risks taken from the director. So I can see how the way the story goes can divide some people, but I personally really enjoyed the direction they went with. I’m obviously trying to avoid giving any spoilers, as I am not a d*** who ruins movies for people. Then again......nah, I’m just kidding. But seriously, ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’ is a very entertaining film, and is also one of my favourites in the ‘Star Wars’ franchise.
Yet as I said earlier, this film does have issues. And the first one comes in the form of Supreme Leader Snoke. You know that guy who kept showing up as a massive hologram in ‘The Force Awakens’ talking to Kylo Ren and who was being built up as this massive big-bad? Well he’s absolutely wasted. Don’t get me wrong, Andy Serkis does a great performance as always, and the character itself is very interesting, however we hardly find out anything about this guy and the movie only uses him as a plot device for Kylo Ren’s story. So I was really gutted that the movie kind of dismisses Snoke when he was built up as one of the most powerful beings in the universe being uber-strong with the Force. As I said: wasted! And the other wasted character of the film is Captain Phasma, who continues her streak from ‘The Force Awakens’ into this film of doing sweet FA. Problem No. 2 - Finn. Well no, that’s not fair, the character of Finn is still as good as in ‘The Force Awakens’, the issue lies in the story he is put. There are various side stories happening for all the characters in this film, and Finn goes with this new character Rose to go get this guy to go do this thing, and that whole story felt really unnecessary and tedious, especially in light of the fact that at the end you find out that all they did was basically pointless. And that whole plot segment takes a good half an hour of the film! My other issue with this film is: marketing gimmicks. That mainly comes from these creatures in the film called Porgs. Yes they are cute and all, but they add zero to the film’s plot. They are literally there to catch kids’ eyes so that then Disney can sell millions of toy porgs to families with zero imagination! Look, if Disney wants to sell toys, fair enough, that’s their choice, but at least do it in style, you know? Like with these damn porgs. Since you have them in the film, give them a reason to be there that would in some ways either progress the narrative, or in some shape or form give development to a character. Because without that it’s basically forced product placement! And my final issue with this film involves the comedy. It’s very Marvel Cinematic Universe-esque, with so many jokes thrown into the film, and even though some of the comedy works, as a whole the gags feel very forced and take away from the more emotional elements of the film. That brings an end to my complaints with this film. So, they were 1) wasted villain, 2) the Finn and Rose story-line, 3) cheap marketing gimmicks and 4) forced comedy.
As I mentioned, even though I have those three problems with this film, overall I really enjoyed it. It’s a great action ride, the effects are superb, from enthralling space battles to some ass-kicking from many characters (the opening and ending sequences are definite stand-outs), it’s definitely a great cinema ride for the festive season! As always, this is boosted by the legendary John Williams score, keeping you pumped throughout the whole movie. There are also a few neat surprises that are sure to please many fans of the franchise. Now let’s talk about the performances! I’ll straight away get to it: Mark Hamill steals the show. He is fantastic as a more weathered, broken Luke Skywalker who has to once again find the Force within him after having been put through so much, and this is easily Hamill’s best portrayal of the character thus far. Daisy Ridley and Adam Driver are definitely becoming the main focus of this new trilogy, with the film creating a Force connection between them, with each of them representing either the Light or Dark side, however at the same time being connected as one. And both Ridley and Driver are great at what they do, with Ridley showing her passion for becoming a Jedi and trying to save Kylo from the Dark side, and then with Driver showing an unstable angry man who is having an inner conflict with himself about what he thinks is the right thing to do, and so the scenes between these two work really well within the film. John Boyega as Finn is good as I already said, however it doesn’t help that he is in the bad side-plot of the film. Oscar Isaac as Poe is given more to do in this film as the Resistance fighter-pilot who reminds me a lot of Maverick in ‘Top Gun’ with his charisma and thought of being able to take on the whole world, and his character gets one of the more interesting story arcs of the film, giving a very good lesson to us all at the end of the film. Then there is Carrie Fisher. I’m glad that Disney kept her story in this film the way they originally intended to, as following her death it would have been very disrespectful to not use most of the footage she worked on prior to her passing. And she is great, I mean, she’s got this role in the bag by now, however it begs the question, what’s going to happen with Episode 9? Are they going to kill her off in the time span between this film and the next, or are they going to pull a ‘Rogue One’ and CGI her character for the next film (which in my opinion is the worst scenario possible!), or are they going to simply recast her role? I guess we’ll find out in two years time!
As a whole I really liked this instalment in the series. Of course my opinion on this is quite limited, since I only properly watched the ‘Star Wars’ movies for the first time two years ago a couple of weeks before the release of ‘The Force Awakens’, so I don’t have the childhood nostalgic passion for this series as others out there do, so I can understand the many of the online fandom being unhappy with the way this film treated the ‘Star Wars’ lore, however as a film I really liked it. It has its issues, but they are definitely overshadowed by the good parts. May the Force be with you all!
Overall score: 7/10

Some guy in my star wars facebook group decided to call my dim because “It’s the Skywalker saga so the hero has to be the Skywalker!” and I’m too stupid to realize that all the signs are set up for Rey being Luke’s kid - “It’s not rocket science!” and so I got annoyed and replied him this:
A. Why would JJ go through the trouble of setting up a mystery box so strongly if the answer to the mystery box is Luke, which is the easiest answer.
B. How can anyone be okay with Luke being her father? For one thing, it would turn the sequel Trilogy into a complete rehash of the original trilogy. When the major complaint of the force awakens is that it's too much like a New Hope, why would they use the exact same plot twist in the second movie of the trilogy? It's dull, and it's bad marketing.
C. If they're really trying to get people to fill the seats for this next movie, why would you already make the plot so cut-and-dry. Rey goes and finds her father Luke Skywalker, and together they go kill the evil kylo Ren. Boring. Can't wait to go see a movie I already know the entire plot of. Do you think people would have been that surprised and excited to learn that Vader was Luke's father if George had set it up so plainly in the first movie?
D. What visual cues are you even talking about? The only thing they have in common is that she's from a sand planet, and Anakin's lightsaber. You can't talk about her being a great pilot, because everyone in Star Wars is great pilot apparently. I would say there are more visual cues to her being related to Obi-Wan than Luke, and I don't really believe that either.
E. Maz Kanata says that the belonging you seek is not behind you it is ahead. The people you're waiting for on jakku, they're never coming back. But there is someone who still could. And then Rey says Luke? Which means the people who left her on jakku who are never coming back and Luke are two different people. And people want to make this big deal about oh maybe it was her mother who actually left her, but she said she's waiting on her family. That generally means that she knows that she was left behind by more than one person.
F. The English accent. Are you telling me you really think that Luke Skywalker's daughter is going to have an English accent like that? As a matter of fact, Daisy actually had to change her natural Londoner accent to something more Posh. Who do we know that uses English accents in Star Wars movies? Kenobi and Imperials/first order officers. Who doesn't use English accents? Luke Skywalker.
G. What timeline are we exactly looking for for Luke to have left her on jakku? Because Ben solo fell to the dark side when he was 23 years old. Which meant that Rey would have been 13-14 years old when he turned to the dark side. Now, we know from the movie that she was left when she was like 4 or 5. So what reason would good old Luke have to leave his daughter on a nightmarish hellscape of a planet if we're still 10 years out from when his nephew decides to ruin everything for him?
H. Making Luke Rey's father completely destroys his character. Because you would have to assume that either he left his daughter to rot on a slave planet for years or that he just knocked up some random woman who never told him that she was pregnant and instead dropped their daughter off on jakku. Considering that lucasfilm and Disney went through Great Lengths to make sure everyone knew that Han and Leia were married before they got pregnant with Ben, I highly doubt they're going to go with the one night stand created Rey plot. And to have her be his daughter from a marriage would make him a terrible father.
I. And speaking of the mother, who? The only girl that we've ever seen Luke Skywalker have any sort of lust over is his own sister. And granted that was a movie making mistake, but we are living under the assumption that Luke immediately went straight into trying to train other force-sensitives in the universe. When exactly did he have time during all this Jedi Academy stuff to get married, and knock up some chick?
J. And gosh, didn't we get an entire book set 23 years after the battle of Endor from Leia's perspective? Didn't she spend that entire book worrying about her son and her brother? Why isn't she worried about her sister-in-law, or her niece? Just seems really strange to me that even if they disappeared somewhere, Leia wouldn't think to mention them at all? So strange.
K. And while we're on the subject of this Jedi Training Academy that Luke was supposedly running, it was clearly filled with force sensitive children, right? Isn't that the gist we're supposed to be getting? If we're allowed to have enough children in this universe that were force-sensitive that Luke could have a training academy, why should we assume that this one force sensitive girl is his child? Why couldn't have any of those kids been his kid? If the force is apparently so prevalent in this universe that Luke can have a bunch of kids at his training academy why does mean that Rey has to be a Skywalker in order to have the force?
L. Deciding that Ray has to be the Skywalker because she's the hero means that you are reducing Leia's impact to the Skywalker Legacy. We already have a Skywalker for the next generation, and his name is Ben solo. To say that Rey has to be a Skywalker so we can have a Skywalker for this generation means that you don't count Ben solo / kylo Ren as a Skywalker which means you don't view Leia as a Skywalker, which means you have no problems with erasing her from the history of Skywalkers.
M. When have lightsabers ever chosen Allegiance due to lineage? Are they like ones in Harry Potter? Can they be ancestral? Because it sure looked to me like if it was all about lineage, it would have gone to kylo Ren? No, the force is a living thing, and it chose Rey in that moment to use the lightsaber to defeat kylo Ren. It's not because she's a Skywalker, it's because the force needed her to win in that moment.
N. And honestly, this whole Skywalker Saga thing is malarkey. Yes Kathleen Kennedy has said that this is the Skywalker Saga, but like I said above, you don't have to have a Skywalker as the driving force for it to still be the Skywalker Saga. As long as the story of the Skywalkers is getting told in a significant way, which the teaser poster for The Last Jedi seems to suggest that Rey is integral in mending the relationship between uncle and nephew, it's still a Skywalker saga movie.
O. To suggest that Rey needs to be the Skywalker because she's the hero means that you don't believe there is a Redemption Arc in store for kylo Ren, as a Redemption Arc would Place him squarely on the route to hero, and Skywalker hero. And I think that's a really poor interpretation of the movie, if you think that everything they've set up, and everything they've released for The Last Jedi doesn't point to him leaving the dark side. Which means the story you want told is that they're just going to kill kylo Ren. Effectively ending Leia's Legacy, and telling one of the most boring stories ever told in space. Kylo is not going to be Darth Vader, he's not going to reach that level of evil, and so the only way they could go with him for a compelling storyline, would be to go the other way.
P. In relation to Redemption for kylo Ren and creating him as the Skywalker hero of the trilogy, where exactly would the storyline go at this point? If the point is to just kill kylo Ren, Where is the dramatic tension? We've already seen that Rey can kick kylos ass without any training, so after her training how would another movie and another movie after that of her kicking his ass again be compelling in anyway? In the original trilogy, Vader one every single battle he was in up until the point that he chunked the emperor into Oblivion. If you already have your hero and your villain Dynamic set up to where the if you already have your hero and your villain Dynamic set up to where the hero wins in the first part of the trilogy, where is your story line?
Q. I recognized my parents when I was five years old, I highly doubt that if Luke Skywalker was her dad who left her on jakku, she wouldn't have known immediately the second she stepped on to Ahch-To. Oh hey, I know that face. I remembered my uncle that I didn't see for 22 years that I'd only seen as a small child. Kids recognize faces.
R. And she also thinks that Luke Skywalker is a myth, do you really think that she would have never heard her father's name ever? At no point does Ray ever wonder who her parents are, she wonders where they are. She knows their names. She knows her own name. She would have recognized Luke Skywalker, or Leia Organa, or Han Solo, as family names if she was related to any of them, and she didn't. But no, by all means, it's not rocket science at all. She's defo a skywalker. Because lightsaber.

Star Wars: 10 Times Rey Hinted She Would Eventually Turn To The Dark Side
Disney’s D23 Expo brought some stunning revelations about the upcoming capper of the nine-part Skywalker saga, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. We saw C-3PO with red eyes, a lightsaber duel on the ruins of the second Death Star, and a fleet of Imperial Star Destroyers in the dead of night.
RELATED: Star Wars: 10 Ways The Rise Of Skywalker Can Give Leia A Fitting Send-Off
But arguably the most shocking reveal was “Dark Rey.” Rey finished off the sizzle reel by wielding a double-bladed red lightsaber, hinting at a possible turn to the Dark Side. While it’s certainly a surprise, it’s not like the signs of her turn weren’t always there. Here are 10 Times Rey Hinted She Would Eventually Turn To The Dark Side.
10 Going straight to the dark
Tumblr media
Just like Luke did in The Empire Strikes Back, Rey went into a cave to have a personal revelation via a Force vision. Whereas Luke’s vision answered questions, Rey’s teased answers and gave us nothing.
However, one interesting thing did come from it: Luke’s suggestion that the fact she went into the hall of mirrors and asked to see her parents is a sign that she’ll fall to the Dark Side. Luke said, “You went straight to the dark,” and Rey said, “That place was trying to show me something.” Then, Luke sternly said, “It offered you something you needed, and you didn’t even try to stop yourself.”
9 Showing anger in battle
Tumblr media
Rey shows intense fury whenever she’s in battle. A prime example of this is in her lightsaber duel with Kylo Ren at the end of The Force Awakens. She wasn’t seeking peace; she was really mad at him. As a wise Jedi once said, “Fear is the path to the Dark Side. Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering.”
Anger is one of the key steps on the way to the Dark Side (the second-to-last one before actually getting there and taking up a red lightsaber), so if Rey is showing it off every five minutes, it’s not a good sign.
8 Being swayed by Kylo Ren via Force Skype
Tumblr media
A lot of Star Wars fans expected Rey to turn to the Dark Side during The Last Jedi, because that seemed to be the way her conversations across the galaxy with Kylo Ren (which has been dubbed “Force-Skyping,” since it doesn’t really have an official name) were heading.
However, the M.O. of Disney’s sequel trilogy so far seems to be teasing change without actually changing anything. Still, Rey and Kylo Ren argued over Force Skype for the entire movie about which side of the Force was best, and Rey failed to make a single compelling argument, while Kylo Ren was testing her worldview left and right.
7 Immediately trying to kill Snoke
Tumblr media
On the Light Side of the Force, the Jedi don’t kill unless it’s absolutely necessary. They try to see the good in everybody – Luke did this with Darth Vader, the most evil man in the galaxy – and avoid killing in cold blood at all costs. Remember, one of the final nails in the coffin when Anakin Skywalker turned to the Dark Side was being encouraged by Palpatine to kill Count Dooku and he chopped his head off when he was already surrendering.
RELATED: Star Wars: 10 Questions About Supreme Leader Snoke, Answered
The second Rey was in a room with Snoke, she tried to kill him. She failed, and it was actually Kylo Ren who delivered the death blow, but she still had that motivation.
6 Mastering the Force in a day
Tumblr media
When Luke Skywalker asked Yoda if the Dark Side of the Force was stronger than the Light Side, Yoda said that it isn’t stronger, but it is much more seductive and easier to master. In The Force Awakens, Rey goes from being amazed to find out that the Force even exists to mastering it in a day or two.
Maybe this was a hint that she took the easier route to Force mastery, i.e. the Dark Side route. The Lucasfilm team has given some weak, half-baked explanation for this that she “downloaded” training when Kylo Ren entered her mind, but frankly, that just seems lazy and a retcon could be in order for Episode IX.
5 Being a desert scavenger
Tumblr media
When we were introduced to Rey, she was a scavenger on a desert planet, selling scrap metal to get by. She clearly hasn’t had the best childhood, due to absent parents and dire social conditions. When we were introduced to Luke, he didn’t have his parents, but he did have two strong parental figures who taught him strong values, and they were clearly affluent moisture farmers who weren’t tight for cash.
When we were introduced to Anakin, he was a slave on a desert planet, scraping by a living with his mother (no father in the picture – another absent parent) in dire social conditions. Point is, Rey is set up to follow Anakin’s journey more than Luke’s.
4 Attacking Luke on Ahch-To
Tumblr media
All throughout The Last Jedi, Rey secretly spoke with Kylo Ren, who tried to sway her to the Dark Side and was pretty convincing. One time, Luke broke them up, like a dad who caught his teenage daughter video-chatting with the guy he told her not to date. When he did, Rey instinctively attacked him.
RELATED: Star Wars: 10 Fan Theories About Luke's Role In The Rise Of Skywalker
She hit him on the back of the head and, without hesitation, came close to killing him. These are not the actions of a bright-eyed hero with a clear head on the wayward path to liberating the galaxy – they’re the actions of someone who would end up killing innocent people.
3 Screaming while fighting the Praetorian Guards
Tumblr media
This is a prime example of the kind of passionate outburst we only ever see in Sith Lords. It’s hard to imagine Yoda or Obi-Wan or Qui-Gon Jinn screaming in the middle of a fight like this. In fact, when a laser barrier separated him from Darth Maul mid-duel, Qui-Gon didn’t even stay on his feet. He knelt down and meditated.
The Jedi are a peaceful people, whose whole ethos (no matter how hypocritical) is based on balance, and Rey is too hot-tempered to be going down the path to becoming one of them, despite Luke’s best, albeit reluctant efforts to sway her that way.
2 Seeing the Knights of Ren in her vision
Tumblr media
In The Force Awakens, when Maz Kanata gave Luke Skywalker’s lightsaber to Rey and told her it was calling to her, she saw a vision. That vision included the Knights of Ren in their entirety, standing behind Kylo Ren in the pouring rain. She wasn’t necessarily scared by them, or apprehensive towards them – she was simply intrigued.
The Knights of Ren will finally be appearing as a group for the first time in The Rise of Skywalker. Perhaps they will recruit Rey as their latest member and that’s where she gets her gimmicky new double-bladed red lightsaber and black cloak.
1 Possibly killing her parents
Tumblr media
This will just be a fan theory until The Rise of Skywalker finally answers the question that’s been on Star Wars fans’ minds since 2015 – who are Rey’s parents? – but there seems to be a lot of evidence to support it.
Based on the fact that Rey’s parentage is a touchy subject for her, no one showed up in the mirror when she asked to see her parents, she was shown crying and alone as a child in her Force Awakens vision, and Kylo Ren told her they were buried in the Jakku desert, many fans have theorized that Rey killed her parents. That’s pretty Dark Side-y behavior.
