You know what really murders my feelings about this? Not just Leia's mixed feelings about Vader being her father and how she can't forgive it, at least not right now, is that Anakin's Force ghost is on Endor with them. That he probably watched over her, unable to reach out to her, because she doesn't want to hear from him, not yet. That he can only stand by and watch as she calls him "father" for the first and maybe last time, as she tosses aside his burnt mask, and says she's setting him aside for now, because her family is waiting. That he has to know she isn't just living her best life, that this haunts her, that this twists her up inside, that part of her is straining towards forgiveness, knowing that he sacrificed himself to save the brother she loves, that there was still some good in him, but she still can't forgive, because she's too angry, too stubborn, too much like him. And we don't see him here, but you know he had to be there, drawn to her words to his ashes, watching over her and only able to listen as she says goodbye and walks away. THAT REALLY MURDERS MY FEELINGS ABOUT THE ENTIRE SKYWALKER FAMILY.

Star Wars Analysis - An Eternal Cycle
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"History tells us that, given enough time, all empires will fall. But if we do not also come to understand how and why they rise, we will remain trapped in this cycle forever." (Kin, Beaumont, "Introduction", The Rise and Fall of the Galactic Empire, 35 ABY, page ix)
"This is democracy. It is strange. And it is messy. It's not about getting it right. It's about trying to get it right. Yes, it's a bit chaotic. Certainly we will get some things wrong. The Empire? They cared nothing for democracy. They valued order above everything else. They wanted to be right so badly that anybody who even hinted at getting it wrong or doing it differently was branded the enemy and thrown in a dark prison somewhere. They destroyed other voices so that only their own remained. That is not us. We will not always get it right. We will never have it perfect. But we will listen. To the countless voices crying out across the galaxy, we have opened our ears, and we will always listen. That is how democracy survives. That is how it thrives..." Olia Choko
"The truth of the matter is, we have lost this war. The Empire as we knew it is gone. Already we were letting it slip when the Rebel Alliance grew in unseen spaces like a cancer. For us, this represents an opportunity to reshape ourselves... It is on us to retake and control the narrative. What will our story be? What—or who—is the Empire?" Gallius Rax
Before and during the Battle of Jakku comic, I've pondered the overarching conflict between the New Republic and the Resistance against the various Imperial Remnants, the most infamous of these remnants being the First Order. There are three phases to this overarching conflict: the final year of the Galactic Civil War, the Thrawn Campaign, and the Second Galactic Civil War (No official name for the FO-Resistance War yet, but it's pretty much another Galactic Civil War. Some funny coincidence is both conflicts happened over one year and involved a son of Leia and Han becoming the big bad). All three conflicts represent a cycle that persisted in the galaxy for three decades: the struggle to preserve and safeguard freedom and democracy and how Fascism continues to survive despite its evils being well-known.
The New Republic and the Imperial Remnants teaches us that building a new democracy in the ashes of Fascism is an arduous task, and evil doesn't simply fade away, but it evolves till it's ready to strike once again. However, even when all hope is lost, a new generation will always rise up to prevent the work of their parents from being undone by a generation lost to a new wave of Fascism.
However, as Beaumont Kin points out, another problem comes after the fight. How do we prevent Fascism from rising again? The Empire was beaten, yet the Empire simply evolved into the First Order. While the First Order collapsed within one year of their rule, it shows how easy it is for evil to return.
After the Battle of Jakku comic run concludes, I want to further explore the three conflicts of the New Republic and the Resistance against the Imperial Remnants and the First Order. Hopefully, by also revisiting the various stories of the conflicts, I can better understand the themes that each conflict showcases regarding the struggle for true freedom and democracy. I will also give my thoughts on each arc of the comic run. Until then, we shall wait and see how the Battle of Jakku comic concludes to properly analyze the final year of the GCW.

The Battle of Jakku Insurgency Rising #4
I enjoyed this issue but I'm also confused by this issue. Why did Luke just leave Adelhard? Like, he left the crew superficially to go take him on. And then he just walks away after killing all of his stormtroopers? They barely fought. There's no way he was going to beat Luke. Luke also didn't even like mess up the ship. What was the point of that? I also didn't like that Reyna Oskure was the Inquisitor. It was just kind of a whatever reveal. I didn't remember who she was. Ladno was good and the action was solid. I'm hoping the next arc of this story will hit me better.
