Okay so I might’ve mentioned that I’m writing a fic where the children of Percabeth, Solangelo, and Valgrace go on an epic quest to rescue their parents and the rest of the Seven from the clutches of evil and I’ve kinda been Hyperfixating on it for a while so here is the first character I would like to info-dump about.

Meet Finley Di Angelo-Solace!!!

He’s currently my favourite out of the Next-gen trio and definitely the one I have the most fun writing for. I genuinely love him sm.

Rant under the cut-

Fin is the son of Nico and Will, and was created using divine godly magic so is biologically both theirs (hey if Zeus can have a baby from his thigh this can happen)

His powers are a complex amalgamation of both of his parents: he can shadow-travel in sunlight, he can heal and talk to the dead and his main weapon is archery

He’s autistic

He has hypersensitive hearing (it could be an Apollo thing, it could be an Autism thing we don’t know. It’s probably both)

He prefers ranged combat partially because he is touch-averse and likes to keep his distance (also bc the other two characters both use melee weapons so I needed some variety)

I see your “Trans Will Solace” hc and I raise you- “Transmasc son of Solangelo who they love and support so so much”

He will INSIST on wearing a binder throughout the entire quest, rib cage be damned! (This will become a problem bc apparently you’re supposed to take breaks and you’re not supposed to do any physical exercise in them so running around chasing monsters is not gonna go well)

A big theme in the fic is gonna be “names have power- but the name you choose is so much more important than the name you were given”, a continuation of the theme from my Married Valgrace AU (which this is canon to) where Jason chooses to take Leo’s name instead of keeping the name of the mom that abandoned him. I feel like Finley would be a great character to symbolise this- someone who chose his own name.

His favourite colour is green/turquoise

Think of Nico’s scariest moment that you’ve read in canon or in a fic- where he is just a force of complete and utter darkness and death. Are you picturing it? Good. Now multiply that by ten. Now imagine someone tried to misgender his child.

The same can be applied to Will. No transphobe would dare mess with Solangelo’s boy.

He is childhood best friends with the two other main characters, Isabella and Olympia, and talks to them a lot but is kinda shy around everyone else.

He also has a major crush on Isabella- the daughter of Valgrace. I have so many cute hcs about those two y’all have no idea.

He is good with medicine and has a magic first-aid kit that acts a lot like Leo’s tool belt with replenishing supplies.

He loves Star Wars

While all the other characters’ POV chapters have regular PJO-style funny titles, all his chapter titles are TOA-esque haikus.

*YAPPING AHEAD, THIS IS LONG*

As someone who has circled through a LOT of fandoms, you know what differentiates the PJO fandom from most of the others? Their raging hatred for what normally would be a very popular character archetype. "Who's that character archetype then" you ask? The answer is Luke Castellan. Unirnonically, I'm complety straight with this.

Luke Castellan is one of the most popular character archetypes in most other fandoms I am/were in.

Now before I get further into this meta, we should establish what archetype Luke actually is and what the criteria are. To me, Luke is the classical Sympathetic Fallen Hero. Someone who only wanted what's best at the end of the day who was wronged by an unjust system, and pushed into straight-up villainy and evil deeds in a desperate attempt for revenge or justice. Oftentimes that push happened by him joining up with a larger, more evil figure who manipulated his hatred into serving this larger, evil goal. Generally also has some deep-rooted trauma in the form of a DARK backstory.

Like literally, that guy is TEXTBOOK. He checks all the boxes. -Someone who only wanted what's best at the end of the day

Check. His goal was a "golden age" for demigods, a future where they would no longer have to die during quests or would be abandoned by their godly parents.

-and pushed into straight-up villainy and evil deeds in a desperate attempt for revenge or justice.

Check. Luke wanted both revenge and justice, which led him to form the Titan Army and all the bad stuff he did. Some include attempting to kill Percy multiple times and leading attacks on camp. The obvious superiority the gods would have over a demigod army led to Luke allying himself with Kronos and other evil forces. (Thus the "desperate" part)

-Oftentimes that push happened by him joining up with a larger, more evil figure who manipulated his hatred into serving this larger, evil goal.

Check. On multiple occasions has it been mentioned that Kronos punished and pressured Luke, using fear tactics to get him to do what he wanted. I mean- Kronos himself said that he would have preferred Percy because he "did things easier" referring to taking the CoA ("I had to pressure Luke in many ways(.....)")

-Generally also has some deep-rooted trauma in the form of a DARK backstory.

Check. His mother went insane when he was still an infant. Hermes practically abandoned them, leaving Luke to be raised by his mentally unstable mother having episodes that scarred him so bad he hid in closets. He proceeded to run away at 9, living on the streets completely alone before meeting Thalia. From then on he went around with her having to deal with monsters. Hal happened, they met Annabeth and Luke started to get parentified/parentified himself. He proceeded to watch Thalia die as he attempted to get to camp at 14. At the same age he had his quest, which he failed and got himself a nasty scar. Luke proceeded to get no discernable mental help or sufficient support to deal with the mental strain resulting from that. Instead, he was put into a caretaker role for younger children not only showing him the results of the system's neglect first hand but also effectivley robbing him of any semblance of a childhood. Once Kronos got to him he continued to the plagued by nightmares.

All that being said, we now established that Luke in fact is a textbook example of what I call the Sympathetic Fallen Hero. (SFL for short from now on) Now onto my point that the other fandoms generally really love the SFL archetype that Luke is. That I will do with examples. Before I list these examples, a short disclaimer. I HEAVILY shortened and abridged the plot and storylines on here as to not make this post overly long. I definitely recommend checking each of these media/characters out for yourself.

Anyway, here we go : STAR WARS :

A big part of the fandom LOVE Anankin/Darth Vader whom they view as a SFH. (Even though him not really being a SFL in the way that he checks all the boxes. But I'm going with the majority fandom view here so ig Vaderkin counts. For those who want, I made a post on my main comparing him to Luke here and how Luke is what the star wars fandom pretends Vader is.)

MY HERO ACADEMIA/BOKU NO HERO ACADEMIA:

I want to talk the Villain Deku AU. Which is basically just an evil version of the MC who also checks all the SFH boces. The AU is hugely popular in the fandom with tons of fanart, animatics, cosplays and even a fan song. Honorable mention to the main anatonigst from the League of Villains, but especially Shigaraki and Dabi. They may not check ALL SFH boxes but an overwhelming majority. They are very popular with the fandom and generally regarded very kindly. Another honorable mention goes out to Stain. Also doesn't check ALL the SFH boxes, but most, and is also regarded generally positivley by the fandom.

THE PROMISED NEVERLAND

Norman, one of the main trio, spends a good part of the later manga seperated and leading his own resistance group against the main bad guy race (of monsters eating human brains- long story but I recommend the manga(don't watch s2 of the anime tho, it's basically the pjo movies for the manga)). Later on it is revealed that the main bad race isn't pure evil. Norman however got to the point where he wanted to commit a straight-up genocide against the race. Women, children, and elderly included. Bit of an outlier for a SFH, since he has no higher figure manipulating him into wanting to commit that genocide- but I'll let it slide. I did use the words "oftentimes" and "generally"- he also get's "redeemed" at the end/stopped from committing said genocide. Again the fandom regards him positively, even having him as a fan favorite.

NARUTO CLASSIC/NARUTO SHIPPUDEN

..... I mean most of the villains are SFH in that show. To the point where we would be here ages if I wanted to list them all. The two main examples most popular with the fandom tho would be Pain and Sasuke. Pain is a main villain whose home got destroyed, partially because of the MC's own home village. He watched his own parents die, and later lost one of his two best friends which finally pushed him over the edge (among others). Pain is also an outlier in terms of a SFH since he didn't have a major bad guy to manipulate him, instead leading his own evil (basically) terrorist cell. His goal was to achieve world peace by harnessing an ancient power, wanting others to suffer as much as he did so they recognize the value of peace. He killed a BUNCH of people. Pain did later revive a good chunk at the price of his own life however post redemption by the MC. Sasuke is the secondary MC and rival of the protagonist. Honestly he has so much going on I couldn't possibly mention it all. Basics are that his family got killed by his own brother due to difficult politics, he was the only survivor. His drive for revenge against his older brother caused him to join up with the main bad guy of Naruto Classic who rly only wanted him as a vessel (flashbacks much). Sasuke betrays his home for the bad guy to get the power he needs to take revenge. All that was stoked by the main bad guy and his comments. More plot happens, turns out the brother rly wasn't entierly bad and was also just used by other higher powers. Sasuke switches sides again and kills OG bad guy and joins up with Pain's previously mentioned terrorist group. The main goal from there is to destroy his home village who used his brother. He was not shy to kill ppl at that point, and was also basically ready to just commit a genocide on his own home. More plot happens, he get's redeemed eventually. Again in both cases the two are CRAZY popular with the fandom.

PERCY JACKSON AND THE OLYMPIANS

I talked about this once already on here, but the fandom seems to LOVE AUs where dark!Percy just opts to straight up overthrow Olympus. I don't think i have to elaborate more on that tbh, but for those that are interested: Here's the post I made about the fandom's hypocrisy concerning dark!Percy and Luke.

And those were only 5 examples, there are many more SFL examples LOVED by the fandom I haven't mentioned here. I'm sure of that.

Seeing this pattern really makes me wonder why Luke seems to be so despised. Logic would dictate him to be rather popular.

My personal theory ? It's a mix of a few factors. Those being : A) The fandom over-sympathizes with Percy Jackson

Percy is easily the most popular character in the fandom. He is the MC afterall. The fandom tends to take his side no matter what, without properly and honestly empathizing with his enemies. It's similar to having rose tinted glasses with a relative or friend. You take their side no matter what- not even wanting to hear out the other side. The fandom seems to have an inherent bias towards Percy, those nice to Percy are viewed positivley. Those having more negative interactions (,even if the interaction is relatively low on the nagtive scale, like a character being critical of Percy for example,) are generally viewed more negativley.

B) The First Person POV of the books and the average age of the fans when they first read the books.

This relates to the first factor in the way that the very Percy-centric set up of the fandom AND the books influence the fandom's perception of characters. The books where Luke appears in are all in Percy's POV. Luke as a character in very complex and needs a lot of empathy and reading between the lines to properly understand and analyze. The books being in Percy's POV hurt Luke in the way that Percy's opinion of Luke is omnipresent with him. Any First Person POV is inherently unreliable, thus Luke often gets presented as a rather one-dimensional evil since that's what Percy views him as for most the book. Luke lacks his own POV, meaning he doesn't really get the chance to truly explain himself. Then ontop of that is the fact that everything he does is filtered through Percy's eyes which are inherently hostile towards him ost the time. Such delivers a wrong first impression of Luke throughout the books. The fandom, due to their attachment to Percy, often do not take their time to objectivley reevaluate his POV or confront the fact that he's an inherently unreliable narrator. Especially for Luke. Furthermore, from what I have seen are a lot of the fans in the fandom "old timers". People who read the first few books as young children and were children when their opinions of characters formed. Them having been so young when first getting introduced to the characters saw them often unable to even really realize all I said above. It also further glorifies Percy as he get's the nostalgia bonus. People generally do not like to challenge their own believes, so large parts of the fandom never took their time to reevaluate Luke and his story once they got older and learnt about the concept of Unreliable Narrators.

C) The fandoms views Luke as a threat to Percy and Percabeth.

This relates to both factors above, while also including the popular false narrative of Luke being a "pedo" or "groomer" If you read the first five books you will see that besides his last question to Annabeth at the end, nothing Luke does can be even remotely read as pedophilic or grooming of nature. Quite the opposite acctualy! He has stated on multiple occasions canonically that he sees his relationship with Annabeth as platonic. The ONLY canonical romantic relationship he had was with a grown monster. He's only ever portrayed having interest in adult women (monsters) , and even that romance plot is just barely there. The fandom, again, is overly attached to Percy however. And they do not like it when other characters challenge him. Luke however is the MOST challenging character for Percy. Not only does he serve as main antagonist, but he also serves as a narrative foil to Percy. He is what Percy could become. He's the canonical dark!Percy AU. He's the other side of the coin toss. Furthermore, Luke also challenges Percy not only on the physical department (fights) but also in terms of morals. At the end of the day Luke was right afterall. One could argue that Percy wasn't really fighting for the "good guys"- he was simply fighting for the "lesser of two evils" Luke brings moral challenges to Percy. He doesn't allow Percy to be a wholly good , squeaky-clean hero. Percy was fighting for the upkeep of an oppressive system. (If U wanna argue with me on the gods being oppressive, take it up with the offical wiki article first : found here) Percy killed other demigods. Percy had flawed views. The fandom who over sympathise with Percy didn't like that Luke was an active threat towards the "goodness" of their favorite. The easiest way out eliminate that "threat" was to demonize Luke. Thus making his points "invalid" as he now was a pure evil villain only aiming to hurt. (Same for the entier TA btw) Percabeth is just as popular as Percy. Annabeth had a deep and important connection to Luke- at the time of the books arguably even deeper and more important than her connection to Percy. Throughout the book has Percy expresses annoyance at Annabeth's insistence in holding onto Luke. This combined with the points above saw Luke being viewed as a possibly threat, due to him being arguably the most important person of the other gender in Annabeth's life. And an obvious point of contention between Percabeth. Inorder to lessen that "threat" the fandom turned to demonizing Luke (again). Annabeth's and Luke's relationship can easily be swept away by saying that Luke was interested in her romantically thus making him a pedo, no ? As for the grooming....... honestly? People just used a buzzword there, because if Luke truly had groomed Annabeth she would have been on his side on the books. All I can say there is please you guys, read a dictionary and know what words mean before you use them.

D) Rick fumbled HARD writing Luke

Luke may just have been the biggest continuous mistake Uncle Rick made in terms of writing. His characterisation in the first two books made him seem VERY evil and unlikable, which is bad as a first impression for a character such as him. SFL like Luke need a lot of focus and insight aswell as sympathy to get behind them. In most examples I mentioned for SFL they backstory was known very early on and they had a lot more focus outside of villainy. Rick simply didn't give that. The backstory reveal with Luke happened far too late, he was far too evil with too little insight for a SFL in the first two books. His "redemtion" was a bit rushed. We got basically nothing on his relationship with his army. His goods sides and his doubts weren't really highlighted enough early on. His last words and questions to Annabeth were frankly said stupid. It broke the themes of family between Luke and Annabeth to some degree and only served as fodder for later accusations. The fact that it was (apperantly) later confirmed that he romantically loved Annabeth was just straight up stupid. It wasn't in character at all and just broke the themes even more, not to mention that it goes against everything we previously saw or heard of Luke. Not to mention that it also just served as further fodder for the fandom to demonize Luke.

Star Wars Demigod AU Aesthetics

My take on who star wars characters godly parents would be!

Luke and Leia are both kids of Aphrodite.

For Luke, I feel like he would have powerful charm speak and much like Leia, be the strongest person in combat in a room despite being underestimated by everyone based on appearance. I also love the idea of the twins having everyone fall in love with them all the time (I think they would make a bit out of it). Some casual Din/Luke is also in this aesthetic (more on Din later).

Leia aesthetic for being a daughter of Aphrodite.

I think that Leia would have been claimed sooner than Luke was (coming to camp when she was younger) and thus she knows how to control her charm speak more than Luke does. She would also be more of a realist with love as she has had her fair share of insincere suitors.

Leia would also be the best shooter at camp half blood. Some Leia/Han is also in this aesthetic!

Han would be the son of Hermes.

He is always traveling, good at thievery/cunning actions, and is a good navigator. I think that he would be sent on his first quest with Luke and Leia (before Luke is claimed) and would be micro managing their travels.

He constantly tries to beat Leia at shooting but they both know that he isn't as good as she is (Leia/Han is also incorporated in this aesthetic).

Din would be the son of Hephaestus.

This one took me a while but honestly it fits.

I think that beyond the armor (which he would 100% wear at camp half blood), he is also super efficient at doing repairs (but not as much as his fellow Hephaestus kid Peli), and uses fire. He would have gone on a lot of quests and is experienced in it (his bounty hunting).

I also just love the idea of a Hephaestus and Aphrodite kid being togethers (thus Din/Luke is in this aesthetic too).

Finally, Lando.

He would be a son of Dionysus. He has the right vibes:

Strong, fun, goes with the flow, and a bit sneaky. He would totally be an enjoyer of good theater and wine.

I like to think that he and Han have been camp besties for a while. He definitely would be the type of person to go on one quest (which was the most important one) and just have so much credit from then on thus making him the person everyone wants on a quest.

cool weapon ideas for Riordanverse characters (OCs or otherwise) since MCGA/TOA only barely started giving us more weapons than “sword, knife/dagger, spear, bow” (garrote, sickles, manuballista/crossbow, blowdart, nets, misuse of instruments, etc)

Remember that one BoO cover where Leo randomly had a chainsaw. Yeah. If you need a mortal item for it to be disguised as like Riptide’s pen form, you could totally make it like a belt chain or something that turns into a chainsaw. That’d be fun.

Similarly. Leo should get to use his toolbelt as a blunt force weapon. Like the office fight scene from EEAAO. Do you see my vision.

Also remember the old headcanons about Will making a lasso/whip out of light with photokinesis powers? That was cool.

Baseball bat / Baseball bat with nails are always good. I have an old OC with that and also i saw a post the other day about Piper with one.

Meteor hammer / rope dart. They’re just cool (again: See office fight scene from EEAAO). My friend and I have an OC that has a meteor hammer yo-yo.

More demigods with their godly parents’ iconic weapons! Meg got sickles, let’s keep it up. Poseidon kids with tridents. Hades kids with bidents. Apparently one of Bellona’s weapons is a whip. Where’s the Indiana Jones Bellona kids.

Obligatory “give somebody a scythe” (works for any chthonic or plant-themed demigod)

 PICKAXES. This sounds silly but ancient Romans actually wielded pickaxes and similar in war and did use them as weapons. So like. where’s my Romans who are about to put a pickaxe through someone’s teeth. come on. Similarly - Slings/slingshots! Hooks! Shovels/spades! These were also all legitimately used in ancient Roman combat.

Axes. We see like, two characters use axes in MCGA. There should be more. In a somewhat similar vein, hammers! Big war hammers! LT Musical!Silena had a big hammer and it was great.

Put some more variation in our swords/knives/daggers! Throwing knives! Maybe also throwing stars. Javelins! Lances! Tbh just throw stuff. Also unique types of blades, cause we’re technically not bound by Greco-Roman or even like, Indo-european. weapons. Even if we were, there’s lots of options. Like falx. Which i have just learned about but they look cool.

Brass knuckles. Claws. Maybe even some type of fang weapons. Don’t tell me you have an entire camp of teens trained by WOLVES and not a SINGLE ONE OF THEM went “wait hold on. i have an idea.”

Will Solace should get to use medical equipment in combat. As a treat. Imagine him wielding like, a bone saw or something. Really just saws in general seem like an intimidating weapon, even if not very practical.

Silly weapons. Give me a demigod with a pizza cutter. Frying pan. Misc sports equipment (Bring back Luke’s golf club!). Maybe even a discus? Give me Aphrodite kids making DIY flamerthrowers out of perfume and aerosol sprays. Anything.

After the shattering in Vulcanus Ackar always makes time to do so, the only people who know the reasoning why are Kiina, Berix and later on Mata Nui

Ackar is good at many things, but cooking is not one of them

He is absolutely horrible at cooking it might as well be his weakness

He'll burn any meal so he's stuck making food that doesn't require cooking

When he's either in Tajun or Tesara Kiina and Gresh (of respective villages) would bring him some precooked meals knowing Ackar does occasionally get tired of the non-cooked meals for so long

Ackar used to have super long hair when he was little, he cut it to a under shave military cut after The War of the Core and The Shattering to help ease the pain of his parents deaths with the "hair holds memories" myth, after Mata Nui defeated Makuta and went back into the Ignika to rest for years he started to grow it back out to remember his time with Mata Nui

Ackar actually knows Berix and his stealing ways but isn't rude to him and occasionally will offer a place to stay in his home to the kid so he doesn't sleep in the streets and eats something

This leads to some jokes that Ackar basically adopted Berix and Ackar didn't realize they were jokes and was fully considering it

Ackar is kinda like Gibbs from NCIS with having many rules for things, having a similar one of the "never go anywhere without a knife" which he mentions a lot

Ackar learned his fighting from his father who before Ackar was the greatest Glatorian of their village, his mother was a Glatorian as well but not as great but took pride in her job

Ackar has a love language from his father, whenever his mother got hurt his father would use a rare plant he'd grow that could not only speed the healing process of the injury and heal any infection in the wound, this was to show that she was just as special to him as the plant was to people. He manages to grow this plant in his home despite Bara Magna's issues though it did wilt a few times, Mata Nui actually first showed his "godly powers" by reviving it, it now just lives without nothing and flourishes due to it

Ackar is Bisexual, he could give two flying fucks about gender roles as well

Ackar actually has a scar across his throat on one of his tattoos due to a Bone Hunter slitting his throat, Mata Nui channeled all of his power to heal Ackar and ended up saving his life a second time, the first time was with Strakk in the arena with their first meeting

Ackar actually considered several times to adopt both Kiina and Berix as the two were like his own children at this point, he did finally one day did and Kiina basically yelled "about fucking time old man!" before she and Berix hugged him

During the time Mata Nui went back to his slumber after defeating Makuta and reforming Spherus Magna, Ackar would talk to the Ignika in hopes Mata Nui was listening like how a comatose person would hear everything and would wake up sooner from it, he would occasionally fall asleep at times there

Ackar was so used to being overworked with the first and second Glatorian roles he would pile stuff to do when he didn't have much work to do due to not being used having free time, Mata Nui after he reformed actually helped Ackar get over this

Ackar actually had and still does have a huge thing for Mata Nui, he was surprised by Mata's courage to jump into the arena with no fighting skills, a Scarabax and a Vorox stinger to save Ackar from being butchered by Strakk in the arena but then grew to love his personality and whatnot as the two spent more time together

During the time of Mata Nui's slumber, Ackar would watch the stars with the Toa Nuva and Takanuva as they introduced Ackar to their game of pointing out certain figures and whatnot in the stars, Ackar was amused by this and enjoyed their game even joining in while also bringing in his knowledge of the stars, though it was a bit different he realized the first night of that Mata Nui's children had a similar love of stars like their father

Ackar rarely leaves his home without his armor on due to being on edge in case of a fight he had to partake in to even survive, the first time he finally did in New Atera was a surprise but a welcomed surprise to many showing that even Ackar felt safe in New Atera

Ackar actually found out that Click beat the snake version Metus and escaped being killed by him(Metus' Revenge extended ending of The Legend Reborn DVD), he's refrained telling Mata Nui of this due to pity for the Agori turned serpent for furious Mata Nui with how much the Great Spirit cares for the Scarabax

ariya does not know of his origin and doesn't find it important to know. as far as he is concerned, he is a sunglass regardless of the blood that pumps in his veins, and that's what truly matters. being the third eldest in seven children has given him a bit of a complex, though, a striving to be seen and showered with love and affection, no matter where or who he gets it from.

his talent in music was obvious early on, though he wasn't given proper training until well into his teens. ariya had an affinity for all instruments, including his own voice, though he rarely sings these days. he is skilled in the flute, fiddle, harp, lute, and reed pipes. ariya's preference is for the harp, both for the skill required and sounds it produces. he has a custom made high harp with gorgeous detailing that he would start wars over.

what are your thoughts on will's (presumed) main insecurity being 'powerless' compared to the other apollo campers? (im saying this prior to reading tsats so ig nothing is really 'confirmed') cus some ppl think it's goofy some ppl think it's interesting

he got minmaxed into damage reduction so i get that he feels insecure around all the dps people around him. but also the "weak but actually op" trope is very prevalent and i. kinda want to see an average built main character? like no fancy tricks? nothing glamorous? it would be so cool if will was killing people without even plague "powers" just really efficient methods of assassination(but i guess riordan wouldn't want kids to know how to do that) kinda goofy but i hope he stays powerless

tangent into my personal response to riordan books

whenever i think abt riordan demigod powers i gripe a little. a decent amount. cause the riordan storyline is a parallel to kids with absent parents, and that the kids are thrust into danger by their parents who don't even acknowledge them, right? and its huge character moment when the kids get even a little recognition, or when the gods straight up appear to talk to their kids? but in ancient myth, thinking homer, virgil, ovid, the demigods have no control of the elements or anything like that. their greatest power is their leverage of godly bias. cause the gods are everywhere. so the ancient trope and riordan trope are pretty much fully contradictory so i can't. it'd hard to add historical interpretation into riordan for me

and. it's so. it's y. you can be so cool without magic.

yes riordan's characters are cool and their scenes are noteworthy because they are flashy. because they can summon waves, and terraform, and shoot fireballs, and it must have been imperative for riordan when writing this series for a younger audience. but now i'm looking at these guys doing it constantly, and their strength keeps increasing, and the physical rebound keeps increasing, and i've . hit a wall in my interest? like no one is weak and no one is making mistakes and the greatest character flaws are jealousy, stubbornness, and... selflessness?

it all feels predictable at this point. like, i could not have predicted that this guy who survived three successive bouts of treason cause of his otherworldly rizz had said flutes were un-liberal as a kid, leading to flutes getting removed from the school curriculum, and also he had a sexy lisp. i couldn't have predicted that two bros would force sparta into their first ever military defeat, the philosopher bro using 3d chess strats in his phalanxes and the bodybuilder bro clutching with his 300 strong gay bodybuilder gang.

but. tsats preview where there's another obscure deity and she wants to hear about these teenagers' love lives? and it all begins with a star wars reference? yeah that's about what i could have expected

it just feels like there's no stakes at this point. i still stand that things would be way more interesting if they just died at this point, cause it's been drilled in that "you were so close to death" "you could have died" "you will die" and so on. but even so somehow i didn't feel much when the side characters or main characters died in hoo or toa?

it could be the direct characterization . riordan , especially in recent days, really loves his direct characterization. i think so, cause i did like the bits in tower of nero when the characters were just being silly and being friends.1!! like. just talking about cows. just throwijg each other around. the good stuff. the characters just feel like flat pngs and riordan adds filters to them every other chapter

tl;dr: my tastes have shifted to out of pocket ancient greek and roman myth/history and i don't enjoy romances

a door was always left open for the young cub , to take shelter , to seat with the family during meals , but he remained elusive , kept to himself , and made his blood run cold and harsh as the weather that imprisons their beloved bear island . lord mormont himself reaches out , holds out his hand , and pats the young man's back as often as he is able ; tells him he holds no fault , that he is every bit a son to him as his other siblings ... that he must forgive himself for a fate beyond his doing . the love and concern is felt , yet it does not wash or burn away the guilt that eats at his heart , does not paint colors on the dull and gray that is the absence of his mother , who wished nothing more but to meet him . it does not help that she lives on in his features , in the way he smiles , the way he talks , and the way he exudes the same warmth and kindness ( and stubbornness , oh how proud she must be ! ) the lady glover brought with her when she arrived from deepwood motte . her blood , soul , and heart runs deep in her youngest , the babe she had prayed for .

perhaps it is in this likeness to his mother that he finds it difficult to find comfort and rest at home , in their political stance , in their strict adherence to tradition . alaric understands , truly he does , and he takes pride in the blood that runs through his veins — every last drop of the first men's . feels every bit frustrated with the surrender of the north's freedom to conquerors . but this inherited doubt he nursed and carried , makes him wonder about the bigger picture , the compromise that could be made , and still preserve the might and strength house mormont .

Some random little facts from my star trek daydream universe lol:

Long and bad post ahead!

-Data fucking loves Ska, and Acid Jazz, and loud rap, and Beethoven. Since his debut to the public when he was still at Daystrom labs, he’s become an intergalactic phenomenon. You’d think after so many years people would be sick of seeing Data. Everywhere. That is the Data-affect, everybody loves Data. Everyone cried in the theatre when he was reunited with Geordi in that one film based on his life. He was given a (uninhabited) planet as a gift. He is not the “uwu innocent baby” people think he is, and enjoys proving that idea wrong with his blink-and-you’ll-miss-it dry humour, and sometimes messing with his friends on purpose. He also looks different because my android redesign are war weapons illegally purchased and repurposed by Soong, but that’s a whole thing so I’ll save it for my art post. If you ask Data what he’d do if be became human, he will say: “I would become a professional DJ”.

-Beverly Crusher was in the circus but quit. She got stabbed there. That was not the reason she quit. She has major control issues but you’d never tell because from first glance she appears so very functional....too functional. Something is off with her, but not really, because she’s just like that and she has to be a bit unhinged or she’ll explode. She’s been in random movies and music videos and shows, before getting her big part. Why did she end a successful space Broadway career to join Starfleet? She might tell you that the feeling of control when she felt another man’s life in her hands after he attacked her in an alley only to be slashed with a stage prop, was a high she just had to chase for the rest of her life. Or she might tell you it’s because she wants to heal people.

-Deanna Troi is space royalty. Literally, she is a princess. And her life is so in alignment with a Disney tale, it seems fake. She is amazing with animals, with or without her telepathic connections, because she spent all her time with them as a child. She had an extreme scene phase as a teen until she destroyed her hair by frying it every day. She had a fashion line. She was spoiled and didn’t learn the value of her wealth until she ran away and it was this whole thing (that’s how she met Will). How does she summon cute little animals to perform little tasks like holding a hair brush? What are you talking about that is totally normal. What do you mean “where is the music coming from?” It’s coming from her heart.

-Geordi was definitely some kind of mathematical prodigy. He plays piano, like most of his friends, and used to do fancy recitals, but it was mainly for his parents, he just wanted to take apart computers and create godly science with them, he creates new entities out of computers, that’s how well he understands computers. He had a streaming channel where he mostly just showcased his insanely modded games. Fucking up video games beyond recognition is his sense of humour, Data doesn’t always get it, but Data gets it. Since the enterprise, Geordi had to stop streaming because it got very intense very fast. He isn’t as comfortable with fame as some of his friends.

-The Enterprise Crew^TM. It’s the most glamorous job in the fleet, you always expect a certain level of class. Something’s not right. They’re agreeable.........too agreeable. They’re always smiling politely, even when casually reporting the insane horrors of the week. People died :) The air is so sterile. I am delirious from the sun I think so this post is kinda weird? Why are they like that? They’ve never argued once. Why are they all actors?? Is it a conspiracy? People wonder, why is nobody talking about the fact that the captain of the flagship was voicing some side character in some random cartoon. Why are they all actors...or musicians...or dancers...or singers. It’s a coincidence. Some people believe they’re fake, as in, they’re not even star fleet officers, they just pretend to be for promotional reasons. After all, they make one HELL of a PR team. The least down to earth people you’ll ever meet.

-Will Riker’s most treasured possession is his signed copy of School of Rock on blu ray.
