Staff Pick of the Week
An Indigenous Present proposes that a book can be a space for community engagement through the transcultural gathering of more than sixty contemporary Indigenous and Native artists. Published by BIG NDN Press and Delmonico Books in 2023, An Indigenous Present was conceived of and edited by Mississippi Choctaw and Cherokee artist Jeffrey Gibson (b. 1972) over the course of nearly two decades.
In Gibson’s own words, “An Indigenous Present celebrates the work of visual artists, musicians, poets, choreographers, designers, filmmakers, performance artists, architects, collectives, and writers whose work offers fresh starting lines for Native and Indigenous art. But the book does not attempt comprehensiveness. Rather, those included here are makers I admire, have collaborated with or been inspired by, and who’ve challenged my thinking. . . . These artists and what they make will guide us to Indigenous futurities authored by us in unabashedly Indigenous ways.”
An Indigenous Present features over 400 pages of color photographs, poetry, essays, and interviews resulting in a stunning visual experience for readers and a shift towards more inclusive art systems. The front cover art shown here is by Canadian artist Caroline Monnet entitled Indigenous Represent.

Hey everyone!
Tumblr media
Ahmed is currently raising funds to evacuate his family out of the Rafah crossing. He's an engineer. Their home was destroyed by bombs & missiles.
As a result, they've been displaced to Rafah where they live in tents without water, food, flour, or electricity. His parents' health are deteriorating.
In order to evacuate, Ahmed needs to raise 5,000 USD per person.
Give anything you can spare. 1, 5, 10, 25 in your currency.
I'm donating as soon as I post this.
Let's do this! I believe in us. Free Palestine!

Hi! I just got my library card and I'm so excited to start reading!!! Do you know if there's a way to sort by, for lack of a better term, queer experience on libby? If, wow stories, asexual stories, trans stories, etc? It's a lot of collection for me to just scroll through, so I'm trying to narrow down my starting search. Thank you for all that you do!!!!
Hi! Yes there is. you can either use keyword searching, (on the libby app, there will be a little magnifying glass icon at the footer - you can click that and then search with any keywords you’d like including ‘ace’, ‘queer’, ‘trans’ etc..). You can also browse by subject, or explore any of our pre-curated lists!
welcome & happy reading!!

Staff Favorites for National Library Week!
Enjoy a handful of staff favorites as we celebrate National Library Week!
Lincoln in the Bardo by George Saunders
February 1862. The Civil War has begun in earnest, and the nation has begun to realize it is in for a long, bloody struggle. Meanwhile, President Lincoln's beloved eleven-year-old son, Willie, lies upstairs in the White House, gravely ill. In a matter of days, Willie dies and is laid to rest. Bending the historical truth, this story finds Willie Lincoln in a strange purgatory, where ghosts mingle, gripe, commiserate, quarrel, and enact bizarre acts of penance. Within this transitional state - called, in the Tibetan tradition, the bardo - a monumental struggle erupts over young Willie's soul.
The Round House by Louise Erdrich
One Sunday in the spring of 1988, a woman living on a reservation in North Dakota is attacked. The details of the crime are slow to surface because Geraldine Coutts is traumatized and reluctant to relive or reveal what happened, either to the police or to her husband, Bazil, and thirteen-year-old son, Joe. While Joe tries to help heal his mother, she slips into an abyss of solitude. Increasingly alone, Joe finds himself thrust prematurely into an adult world for which he is ill prepared and soon sets out with his trusted friends to get some answers of his own.
The House in the Cerulean Sea by T.J. Klune
Linus Baker leads a quiet, solitary life. As a Case Worker at the Department in Charge Of Magical Youth, he spends his days overseeing the well-being of children in government-sanctioned orphanages. When Linus is unexpectedly summoned by Extremely Upper Management he's given a curious and highly classified assignment: travel to Marsyas Island Orphanage, where six dangerous children and their enigmatic caretaker, Arthur Parnassus, reside. As Arthur and Linus grow closer and long-held secrets are exposed, Linus must make a life-changing choice.
This is the first volume in "The House in the Cerulean Sea" series.
The Forgotten Garden by Kate Morton
Cassandra is lost, alone, and grieving. Her much loved grandmother, Nell, has just died and Cassandra, her life already shaken by a tragic accident ten years ago, feels like she has lost everything dear to her. But an unexpected and mysterious bequest from Nell turns Cassandra’s life upside down, challenging everything she thought she knew about herself and her family. Inheriting a book of fairytales, Cassandra takes her courage in both hands to follow in the footsteps of Nell on a quest to find out the truth about their history, their family, and their past.

Staff Pick of the Week
Décoration moderne dans l'intérieur by Henry Delacroix (1907-1974) was published in Paris by S. de Bonadona, likely around 1935. Delacroix studied architecture at the National School of Decorative Arts of Paris joining his father’s architectural firm upon graduation. He made a name for himself reconstructing French cities after World War II, most notably City of 4000 in La Courneuve.
Capturing Delacroix’s penchant for modern art deco inspired interiors, Décoration moderne dans l'intérieur is a portfolio of the genre’s luminaries. The publication contains forty-eight vibrant pochoir (stencil coloring) printed plates of designs by Francis Jourdain, Pierre Chareau, Georges Djo-Bourgeois, and the author, Henry Delacroix himself. He also included a seemingly heartfelt introduction that loosely translates to the idea of a man’s physical and spiritual needs being met through the luxury of a home that can facilitate the rest needed to nurture his imagination.
Delacroix produced several portfolios of this kind showcasing ideas for an array of architectural settings and including painterly accessories inspired by Chagall and Matisse. A delight for anyone interested in interior design or color theory! Our copy of Décoration moderne dans l'intérieur is part of a gift from the estate of our dear friend Dennis Bayuzick.
