Day 2 of mcspirk week - Trust
Ao3
Content warnings: Sex, I haven’t written smut before warning.
@mcspirkevents
Trying to show all aspects of their relationship.
it may seem like McCoy doesn't get along with Spock on the outside, as often they argue and trade insults. However, that is not the case. Leonard loves and cherishes the half-vulcan more. He'd trust Spock with his life if it came to it - Even if he's an idiot sometimes. His partners are often getting into trouble and being injured in the field. It scares the hell out of him. McCoy can always trust them to take care of him after a particularly bad mission that had resulted in severe injuries.
When McCoy and Spock were trapped on that alien planet outside of Federation space, he couldn't help but feel worried and fear that the vulcan would bleed out on the planet. Thank God he didn't, but McCoy would never forget seeing a different side of Spock, scared of dying and feeling an immeasurable amount of sadness over his lost planet. Something he would never understand. When his hands became coated in emerald green blood, he realised that Spock was more than a reluctant friend. When they returned to the enterprise and defeated the evil that threatened to eliminate them all, they became connected, such a profound bond that transcends his human understanding.
For that reason, plus many more, the trio decided to stay aboard the enterprise where they belonged. Not long after that decision, they all agreed that Spock may join their relationship. It didn't take any convincing at all, as Spock had been harbouring a crush on both of them.
McCoy felt like he finally found the missing puzzle piece in his life, Spock and him still argued but it became more light-hearted as they grew closer together.
Now they were in his quarters, more specifically sprawled out on his bed. Thankfully, it had been refitted so that all three of them could fit on it. Spock is sitting up and tapping away on his PADD whilst Jim is on top of him. They share a chaste kiss before Jim practically rips his shirt off.
"Eager as always, huh?" he rolls his eyes.
Jim doesn't answer. Just presses their lips together and undoes his belt, quickly freeing his erection. Instead of sucking him off as Jim most enjoys, the blonde grabs a bottle of sweet smelling lube and puts a small amount on his hands. McCoys is about to question what he's doing when he grabs his dick and pumps it hard, which makes him gasp.
Spock looks over at him and raises an eyebrow. He puts his device down, McCoy doesn't get to look at Spock anymore as Jim leans forward on his knees and kisses him and then smiles smugly when he gets another breathy moan after he squeezes his cock again, sliding his hands up and down his shaft almost painfully slow. Then he stops, which makes McCoy open his eyes (when did he close them?). Jim's pants had disappeared now.
Jim smiles at him. Now he's leaning over him and sucking on his shoulder. He sighs, almost wanting to yell at him to finish it already, but he stops when he sees those blue eyes staring at him lovingly. Trust Jim to get all emotional during sex, he rolls his eyes and huffs, giving him a look that says 'get on with it already'. That he did, going from a slow pace to fast in milliseconds and matching it on his own cock. McCoy fists the sheets and closes his eyes again. As always Jim hits all the right spots that he has come to perfect. He moans out Jim's name again before he comes on the blonde's stomach and Jim paints his in return then flops down beside him.
For a blissful moment all is silent as they both come down from their high. that is until Spock breaks it.
"Interesting." he says as if he's performing an experiment.
"Yeah." Jim laughs and gets up. Likely to get a towel for them both.
"Enjoy the show huh?"
"I will say it is… Fascinating." Spock blushes and looks away.
"Well I'm glad ya' enjoyed it, you're always welcome to join darlin'. "
Spock turns an even deeper shade of bronze but doesn't say no. Jim returns and cleans the both of them up, they put on some boxer briefs. McCoy gets up and pulls Spock into a tender kiss before they all snuggle into bed, he can feel Spock's curiosity as well as the deep trust that has formed between the three of them. Spock knows neither of them will force him into doing something he doesn't want, Jim and Leonard know it'll take time for them all to feel totally comfortable with each other as he and Jim are.
After all, relationships are built on trust.

In Our Favor
Part 245
McCoy
“What are you staring at James T?” Jaylah asked as they ate lunch the next day.
McCoy turned to look out the window where Jim was looking. He grinned.
“Is that—” Jim began to say, then he was on his feet and gone from the table.
McCoy let out a laugh as he watched Jim nearly throw himself around Francine as he got outside the dining hall.
“Who is that?” Cora asked, turning back to McCoy curiously.
“Scotty’s mom and Granddad,” McCoy answered. “They got in yesterday in time for Scotty’s birthday dinner.”
“Are they leaving?” Spock asked after looking after Jim.
“No, they’re here for the week. We’ll show them around campus after class and around town too.”
Jim came back to the table, his face glowing with happiness.
“How come you didn’t tell us Francine was coming?” he demanded from McCoy.
“Because it would have ruined my surprise for Scotty,” McCoy replied with an eye roll. “I was already checking my comm so much he was getting suspicious.”
“Are you two doing alright?” Christine asked quietly. “With it being his birthday?” McCoy knew exactly what she meant and it was apparent to the others at the table too.
“Yes,” McCoy said firmly. “We’re making it ours again. What happened is just bad memories.”
“I hope so Leo,” Christine said earnestly. Jaylah reached over next to him and squeezed his arm.
Scotty had reached the table with his lunch and family finally.
“Hello Francine,” Spock said. “Granddad.”
“It’s good to see ye Spock,” said Francine with a bright smile. “All of ye,” she said, looking down the table at all the friends. “Including ye new faces we haven’t met yet.”
“This is Eugene and Cora,” McCoy said, gesturing to the pair. “Francine and Alasdair Scott.”
“And this is Aporal,” said Scotty, taking a seat next to the Andorian.
“Ma’am, sir,” Aporal said with a nod of his head.
“Aren’t you eating?” Uhura asked.
“We’ll grab something after this,” said Granddad.
“We just wanted to see ye all,” said Francine. “Monty said this would be a good time. Then we’re going to walk around off campus until classes are over.”
“We can show you around after,” Jim said eagerly.
“We’ll see ye plenty Jim, don’t ye worry,” Francine said reassuringly. She turned to Keenser. “How is yer mum?”
“Aporal,” Granddad said. “Ye’re the one who invited them home.”
“Yes.”
“Aporal!” Jaylah nearly hissed at him. She gave him a frown.
“Yes,” Aporal said, obviously resisting rolling his eyes. “Scotty and Leonard came to Andoria with me.”
“And Jaylah,” McCoy couldn’t help but add with a smile.
“Montgomery has told us lots about you,” Granddad said, still looking at Aporal. “Ye sound like a good lad to have at one’s side.”
Aporal blinked in surprise. “I- uh- thanks.”
“He is,” Jaylah agreed, smiling at Granddad.
Part 246
Scotty
"They seem very nice," Aporal said as he and Scotty walked to their next class. Scotty threw him a smile and nodded.
"Aye. They are. Who do ye think I got it from?" He elbowed Aporal amicably in the ribs and the latter laughed out.
"I guess I shouldn't have expected anything else, huh?" the Andorian asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Exactly," Scotty agreed.
"Well, I really hope you and your family have a nice time together." Even though Scotty could hear something like wistfulness in Aporal's voice because he and his family weren't quite that close yet, he knew that Aporal meant what he said.
"Ye're welcome to join us when we show them around campus after class. I'm sure ye know some secret information that I've never heard of myself."
"I could do that, of course." Aporal shrugged. "But you're forgetting something, Scottish boy."
Scotty tilted his head to the side questioningly and raised a curious eyebrow.
A grin crossed Aporal's face as he patted the Scotsman on the shoulder.
"If I told you, it wouldn't be a secret anymore."
Scotty just shook his head with a laugh as he and Aporal entered the classroom. That was so typical of the Andorian. But it was also very refreshing.
"Halò, a mhàthair, a sheanair," Scotty greeted his family when Leonard and him met them in front of their dorm after their last class. "What did the two of ye do the whole time?"
"Oh, ye know, a wee bit of sightseeing, buying souvenirs for the girls at home, searching for a nice birthday present for our wee lad," Francine answered, gently ruffling her son's hair.
"Mum," Scotty groaned in a complaining voice, but Francine knew that he wasn't very serious.
"At first, we planned on buying presents in Aberdeen, but then I told yer mother that it would be too much to carry. Ye know that shopping can get out of hand with her very fast," Granddad joked and Scotty chuckled. That was true.
"Oi! I love to spoil me lads. There's nothing wrong with that!"
"Well, how about the lads show us around campus and then ye can spoil us with a homemade dinner?"
Both, Leonard and Scotty looked at Alasdair in surprise.
"But... we don't have a kitchen," Scotty said. And he had his doubts that the hotel had one.
"Oh, that's no problem. We found a nice little startup project in town. People can rent a kitchen for a wee group of people and they can cook and eat there," Francine told them with a bright smile.
"And we rented one for this evening," Alasdair added.
"That sounds awesome! Then we better get going and show you around," Leonard said with a grin.
He offered his arm to Francine and they started moving. Scotty and Granddad followed them and from where he was walking Scotty could hear his husband quietly talking to Francine.
"Maybe you can show me a few tricks? You know that I can't cook," he said and Francine gently patted his arm.
"I'm sure we can all make a great dinner together. For ye and all of yer friends."

Why Spones is a top-tier ship
AKA “the inherent homoeroticism of annoying the shit out of your co-worker.”
Spock and McCoy have a complicated relationship. A lot of their bickering and ideological differences lead fans to believe that they hate each other, but that’s an over-simplification of the truth. The reality is that Spock and McCoy are extremely close friends who care about each other deeply. Though sometimes their bickering turns serious during stressful situations, for the most time they seem to enjoy the banter. A common mischaracterization of their relationship seems to put McCoy as the bully and Spock as the victim. In truth, there are many times where Spock will say something specifically to get a rise out of McCoy. They fight. That’s how they show affection, not disdain. In fact, one could argue that some of their bantering have a flirtatious tone to it.
Kirk: Mister Spock, regaining eyesight would be an emotional experience for most. You, I assume, felt nothing.
Spock: On the contrary Captain. I had a very strong reaction. My first sight was the face of Doctor McCoy bending over me.
McCoy: ‘Tis a pity brief blindness didn’t increase your appreciation for beauty, Spock. (Operation -- Annihilate!)
Spock is a half-Vulcan, half-Human who has mostly chosen to follow his Vulcan heritage. As such, he is a being of almost pure logic. The truth about Vulcans are that they are secretly beings who feel things very deeply and intensely, and they feel the need to keep a tight lid on their emotions as to not succumb to them. McCoy, on the other hand, is a regular human. He’s a deeply emotional man who cares about others. One could argue that McCoy is almost too empathetic, as he lets his emotions rule him. Spock and McCoy are polar opposites; the brain and the heart, the logic and the emotion, the super-ego and the id.
Despite these differences, the two men are similar in a lot of ways. They’re both men of science, men of peace, and they both care very deeply for their Captain. They’re both self-sacrificing morons, to the chagrin of the other. Spock will prioritize McCoy’s life even when both of them know it’s not the logical choice to do so. Likewise, McCoy will take a hit for Spock even when they both know the Vulcan is stronger and better equipped to deal with pain than the doctor.
Spock: (In the middle of a blizzard) In this severe cold, we cannot survive much longer.
McCoy: Leave me here, Spock.
Spock: We go together or not at all.
McCoy: Don’t be a fool. My hands and face are frostbitten. I can’t feel my feet. Alone, you have a chance. Now do what I say. Go try to find Jim.
Spock: We go together! (All of Yesterdays)
In the episode, “The Empath,” Kirk, Spock and McCoy have to choose someone to be offered as sacrifice to be tortured by a group of aliens. Kirk obviously volunteers, but gets put to sleep by McCoy with a tranquilizer. Spock then states that he’ll offer himself up, as he has the higher chance of surviving the torture. McCoy then proceeds to sedate Spock as well, and sacrifices himself to be tortured by the aliens.
Spock: While the captain is asleep, I am in command. When the Vians return, I shall go with them.
McCoy: You mean, if I hadn't given him that shot
Spock: Precisely. The choice would have been the captain's. Now it is mine.
(McCoy turns away. Spock sits to carry on working. Gem puts her hand on Spock's shoulder, and smiles. McCoy comes up behind him and gives him an injection.)
Spock: Your action is highly unethical. My decision stands. (Spock falls asleep next to Kirk.)
McCoy: Not this time, Spock.
Underneath all the fighting and disagreements, there is a deep caring between Spock and McCoy that manifests itself into protectiveness towards each other. In “All of Yesterdays,” Spock is constantly showing concern for McCoy after he almost died of hypothermia. In aftermath of McCoy’s torture in “The Empath,” Spock is seen hovering over his body and caressing his face, worry written into his features. On the other hand, while McCoy constantly makes fun of Spock for his lack of emotions, he’s also highly aware of the Vulcan’s mental state and protective of it when others threaten to shatter his resilience.
McCoy: He's a Vulcan. You can't force emotion out of him.
Philana: You must be joking, Doctor.
McCoy: You'll destroy him.
Parmen: We can't let him die laughing, can we?
McCoy: (Watching as Spock starts to cry) I beg you! (Plato’s Stepchildren)
The episode “Amok Time” also demonstrates McCoy’s perceptiveness of Spock and Spock’s true feelings of friendship towards McCoy. McCoy is in fact the first person to notice that something is wrong with Spock:
McCoy: Oh, captain. Got a minute? It's Spock. Have you noticed anything strange about him?
Kirk: No, nothing in particular. Why ?
McCoy: Well, it's nothing I can pinpoint without an examination, but he's become increasingly restive. If he were not a Vulcan, I'd almost say nervous. And for another thing, he's avoiding food. I checked and he hasn't eaten at all in three days.
Kirk: That just sounds like Mister Spock in one of his contemplative phases.
Kirk doesn’t notice anything wrong with Spock, and initially dismisses McCoy’s concern, but McCoy immediately picked up on Spock’s mental turmoil. Despite his cantankerousness, McCoy not only cares about Spock but goes out of his way to look out for his mental state. Part of it might be because he’s his doctor, but how many doctors go so far as to monitor someone’s eating habits because they notice that person’s suddenly being fidgety? On Spock’s end, when it comes time for him to beam down to Vulcan to complete his marriage ceremony, he specifically asks for McCoy to be there:
Spock: By tradition, the male is accompanied by his closest friends.
Kirk: Thank you, Mister Spock.
Spock: I also request McCoy accompany me.
McCoy: I shall be honoured, sir.
One episode I find extremely fascinating in terms of McCoy/Spock moments is “Mirror, Mirror.” In this famous episode, half of the Enterprise crew get transported into an alternate universe dubbed The Mirror Verse, in which evil versions of the characters exist and terrorize space as a fearsome military force. McCoy is part of the team that gets transported in the Mirror Verse, while Spock stays in their regular universe. Mirror Spock immediately realizes that half of the crew, including Kirk and McCoy, are acting strangely. When he corners Kirk to question him, he does so by threatening McCoy: “I shall not waste time with you. You’re too inflexible, too disciplined, once you’ve made up your mind. But Doctor McCoy has a plenitude of human weaknesses, sentimental, soft. You may not tell me what I want to know, but he will.” This Spock seems to have a intimate knowledge of McCoy’s mind.  When the party decides to attack Mirror Spock, he fights all of them except for Uhura and McCoy, who he simply pushes out of harm’s way.
When Mirror Spock gets hurt as the crew is trying to escape back to their own universe, McCoy is suddenly unable to leave his side. Kirk allows him to stay to nurse Spock back to health, and McCoy risks almost staying in the Mirror Verse forever for him. When Mirror Spock awakes, he backs McCoy into a wall and initiates a forced mind meld onto the doctor. The next scene has Mirror Spock holding a disoriented McCoy up and bringing him back to his crew; he now understands what is happening and he wants his regular crew back, and thus he allows Kirk and company to make the switch back to their own universe.
Other Star Trek properties have gone more in depth on how a forced mind meld can be extremely traumatizing on the person receiving it. Star Trek: Enterprise has an entire story arc dedicated to the Vulcan T’Pol trying to heal from a forced mind meld. Unfortunately, because the nature of TOS episodes were episodic, we never got the chance to explore the emotional fallout of McCoy’s forced mind meld and how that might have affected his relationship with Spock. The franchise also never went in depth on Mirror McCoy outside of what Mirror Spock speaks of him, since Mirror McCoy died of xenopolycythemia in 2269.
Closing the list of evidence of Spock and McCoy’s affections towards each other are the Star Trek movies “The Wrath of Khan” and “The Search for Spock.” Towards the end of Wrath of Khan, Spock sacrifices himself to save The Enterprise in one of the franchises most heart-wrenching scenes. Moments before his sacrifice, he knocks McCoy unconscious, touches his face and whispers “remember.” What happened in this scene was that Spock, knowing he was about to die, transferred his Katra to McCoy. The katra being the Vulcan equivalent of a soul. This speaks to the amount of trust that Spock has in McCoy. For someone who keeps most of his emotions under a tight lid, it’s a huge gesture to entrust another with the essence of their entire being. The next movie, The Search for Spock, is a journey as the Enterprise crew fight to return to Vulcan so they can reunite Spock with his body. When they finally arrive, the Vulcans warn McCoy that the process is extremely dangerous and could even result in his death. McCoy calmly replies that he “chooses the danger.” He cannot fathom living his life without Spock.
McCoy: (Speaking to Spock) I'm going to tell you something that I... I never thought I'd hear myself say...But it seems I've missed you. I don't know if I could stand to lose you again.
So in conclusion, Spock and McCoy have a rich and complex relationship that is much more than simply just “they dislike each other because they bicker a lot.” Their bickering is more akin to that of an old married couple. There are plenty of examples not even included in this post of how deeply they care for each other. Despite their ideological differences, they balance each other out quite nicely. McCoy is finely attuned to Spock’s emotions, arguably better than anyone else on the ship. Spock in turn is protective and gentle with McCoy. Once you stop looking at their interactions solely on the surface level, you’ll be able to see the tenderness and years of love and friendship between them. This is why I think Spock/McCoy is one of the most underrated and misunderstood relationships of TOS. Don’t let the constant arguing fool you into believing these two dummies don’t adore each other.
Shout-out to Tempest for their extremely lengthy ship manifesto on Spones called “Spiced Peaches,” which goes even more in depth on why Spones is a great couple. Using their manifesto as a reference was key to remembering Spock/McCoy moments. Also shout-out to the site chakoteya for having full transcripts of TOS episodes, so I could easily find quotes for this. If you’ve come this far, thanks for reading!

You groaned as you read the message from Jim, already trying to find a way out of it.
All commanding officers were to go to a Gala on the metropolitan planet of TIbbea. Meaning, you’d have to dress up and attempt to kiss ass to uphold the reputation of Star Fleet.
Fantastic.
XXXXXX
You sat next to Leonard as you sipped the brandy he’d pulled out from his cabinet, some oldies playing in the background. You and Leonard had grown close, surprising everyone by becoming good friends despite the rocky beginnings. Bickering had given way to teasing, but that wasn’t to say that the bickering ended.
“So I take it you’re not looking forward to tomorrow?” He asked and you snorted.
“Absolutely not. They also still haven’t given me a new dress uniform so I’ve got to wear the most uncomfortable thing on the planet. Thankfully, it’s just black but I prefer slacks over that thing any day.”
“Hey, I hate that monkey suit. I think I’d rather wear a dress.” You laughed and rested your head on his shoulder.
“We can always switch.”
“Nah, I don’t think I could pull it off.” He replied and you two simply listened to the music. While ancient country wasn’t your taste, you had made Leonard watch enough of your movies that you owed him some of your time. “At least you can dance, right?”
“Can you?” He made a more or less sign. “I don’t really like to. I’ll stay near the bar and appetizers. Maybe you’ll meet some nice Orion girl to dance with.”
“I’ll just stay at the bar with you, darlin;. Maybe a Ferengi will woo you off your feet.” You snickered into your drink.
“If they buy me a drink, sure.” There was a comfortable silence between the two of you, but you didn’t notice Leonard’s heart nearly beating out of his chest. You only noticed something was off when he dragged his hand over his face. “You alright?”
“Uh, yeah. I was actually wondering if any of the other officers asked you to be their...accompany them to the gala?”
“No, why?”
“How about you go with me? Seems like we both want the same thing of staying out of the way and drinking them out of the house.” He joked. You hoped he didn’t notice your cheeks heating up as you looked back down into your glass.
“Sounds great, Len.”
Stars, he loved it when he called you that.
XXXXXX
The hall was ornately decorated with white walls and gold accents, a grand staircase, and breathtaking portraits of previous rulers of the planet. It seemed like it was something out of a fairy tale or a palace from Europe. Star Fleet took you to so many places but you never thought you would be in as nice a place as this.
You squirmed a little outside of the grand hall, the straps of your heels digging into your ankles, the garter belt that held your phaser chafing against your other thigh. Nyota and Janice had a lot of fun helping you get ready, an unspoken giddiness between the two. When you probed them as to why they were so adamant about getting you ready, they simply smiled and said “no reason”. Luckily for them, Spock had chosen to take Nyota as his date and Hikaru had kindly asked Janice to be his.
You had to admit they had done a great job but you weren’t surprised. Their makeup and hair were always impeccable.
You didn’t notice Leonard standing behind you and staring at you. He was in awe of how you looked. He always thought you looked beautiful but seeing you in your onyx gown was something else. It hugged you in the right places, showed off your shoulders with the loose sleeves, and the slit up your leg made you look like a goddess.
Dear God you were going to be the death of him.
You fixed your hair a little before you felt a tap on your shoulder. You spun to see Leonard in his dress uniform. While you knew he hated the monkey suit, he looked so handsome. His eyes were even brighter than usual and he had run just a little bit more gel through his hair.
“Hello there.” You greeted. He looked you up and down and you ran your hands over the silky material of the skirt. “Told you it was awful.”
“What’re you talking about? You look...you look gorgeous, darlin’.” Your eyes widened and you knew he saw the blush on your chest and cheeks.
“You don’t look too bad yourself.” He offered you his arm and you took it, walking into the grand hall and looking out for your crewmates. You took note of the many different races that were there and the line to great the king and queen.
“Jim needs a chair like that.” You commented, looking at the throne that was decorated with the overarching symbol of the national Tibbean religion. It was imposing to say the least and you wondered if it would even fit in the transporter room.
“What? So his ego can get bigger?” You both chuckled and made your way down the stairs and towards the bar.
“I see we’re sticking to the plan?” You asked.
“Wouldn’t have it any other way. Old fashioned, right?” You smiled, loving how he remembered your favorite cocktail.
“Yes please.” He ordered that for you and boulevardier for him. One of the bartenders quickly made them and slid them over to the two of you, the glasses heavy and almost a little gaudy.
“To drinking them out of the house!” He toasted and you chuckled.
“To drinking them out of their palace.” You corrected. You sipped your cocktail and, though you had many before, it was the best old fashioned you’d ever had. “Damn that’s good. I gotta figure out what bourbon they used.”
“I doubt you’d be able to afford it, darlin’.”
“Hey, if I take more credits from Scotty in poker I just might.” He scooted closer to you so you were practically resting against him.
“You gotta teach me your tricks.” “What? And let you take away my credits? I don’t think so.” You responded cheekily. You watched as Jim approached the king and queen, supposedly thanking them for their invite and talking up Star Fleet.
“It isn’t even a game for you anymore! You win every time.” He complained and you laughed.
“Doctor McCoy, I don’t play games. Poker is just a means to an end to be able to get everyone’s credits.”
“Never took you for a scrooge. You can tell me something”
“I never realized you were so whiny.” You replied and his jaw dropped in feigned shock. “Oh shut it, you know it’s true. ‘Jim, I’m a doctor not a brick layer. Spock you realize this is impossible. (Y/N) you need to be more careful’. Dammit Jim can’t you-” He elbowed you a little and you laughed, his arm going around your shoulders.
“You two certainly look like you’re having fun.” Jim said as he approached with the other members of the crew that had beamed down. You both sipped on your drinks as the others talked about how beautiful the planet was. Scotty was impressed with their liquor selection just like you were, Janice couldn’t believe her eyes when she saw the paintings, Nyota was in awe of the poetic music that played, and Hikaru was obsessed with the native plants that nearly glowed with color.
“Please Spock, dance with me.” Nyota begged, already a little tipsy. She was always a lightweight, ever since meeting her your first day on the Enterprise.
“Of course, ashayam.” He replied and held out his arm for her to take and lead her to the floor. You and Leonard looked at each other, hardly believing the Vulcan could be so smooth.
“Miss Rand, if I may.” Sulu offered his hand, Janice laughing as she took it. Scotty lead Lieutenant Mira, Jim grabbed Carol, which eaft you and Leonard against the bar still. You were feeling the effects of your second old fashioned and decided “to hell with it”.
“Len, come dance with me.” He sputtered into his drink and quickly wiped his chin.
“Uh, I thought you didn’t dance.”
“I never said that, I just never answered your question. So will you dance with me?” You replied, placing your glass down and reaching to grab his hands.  “Well...Look darlin’-”
“I’ll dance with you.” A deep voice called. You turned to see a  Daliwakan leaning against the bar near you. “I’m Ivvoid, junior ambassador to the Daliwakans.”
“It’s very nice to meet you.” You introduced yourself and your rank aboard the Enterprise.
“Dr. McCoy, CMO of the Enterprise.” He introduced and you didn’t fail to miss how his chest seemed to literally puff up.
“Come, Commander. Indulge in me a little and dance.” Before you could object, he grabbed your elbow and led you to the floor. His other hand quickly went to your waist as you stepped in time to the music.
“You have to forgive me, I’m not a talented dancer.” You told him sheepishly, keeping in mind you had to keep up a diplomatic presence. You wished Leonard was with you instead.
“To be honest, neither am I. But who ever heard of an ambassador who couldn’t dance?” You laughed softly at him as he lead the little waltz you were having. You could practically feel Leonard’s eyes on you. “Who is the CMO to you?”
“What?”
“Who is he to you? Just a crewmate?” He replied and you furrowed your brows at him.
“Why do you ask?”
“Well, if I wish to get to know you better I would want to know whether you are spoken for or not.” He replied bluntly. You were a little stunned, something unusual for you. You didn’t realize that was a trait amongst the Daliwakans.
“Well, he is my date for the night.” You explained and you saw the ridges on his forehead raise.
“Just for the night then? You two aren’t together?”
“Well no, I don’t suppose we are.” You replied honestly.
“Fantastic! You know, back on my planet women-”
XXXXXX
Nyota looked over at Spock’s shoulder to see Leonard still leaning against the bar while you danced with someone else. She knew that there was something going on between the two of you, but you were both too stubborn and blind to do anything. If he wasn’t going to do anything, she would just have to push him.
“Spock, let’s move near Doctor McCoy.”
“Are you planning something?” Nyota smiled up at him and he did as she asked. “Doctor.”
“Spock, Uhura.” Leonard replied as he sipped on his third drink of the night. He saw how flustered you were getting and couldn’t help the pang of jealousy in his chest.
“Leonard, why don’t you go over there? She obviously doesn’t want to be there.”
“What’re you talking about? She’s laughing at everything he says and hasn’t stopped dancing with him.” He grumbled.
“Perhaps she is merely trying to be diplomatic. It’s hard to reject an offer from an ambassador.” Spock replied and Nyota grabbed his hand in a Vulcan kiss, showing that he had done a good job.
“Nah, she likes him.” She looked over again and saw how stiff you were. Sometimes she really wanted to slap Leonard for not catching on to the obvious things.
“Really? You think so? Maybe she just needs someone else to go save her, be assertive! Go over there!” Leonard polished off his glass and moved away from the bar.
“Nah, leave her be.” She looked up at Spock and he led her back to the dance floor, hoping to lift her spirits again. Nyota looked across to Janice who sported a disappointed look on her face.  XXXXXX
You looked away from the ambassador to see Leonard going back up the stairs of the grand hall. Your eyes widened and you mouth went slightly agape. You let go of the ambassador’s hand and, against his protests, quickly made your way through the crowd.
“Wait, Commander!”
“I’m sorry, I have to go!” You caught Leonard going around a corner and followed him, wondering where he could possibly be going. He went up another set of stairs and you followed, but he had gone into one of the many rooms before you could see which one. You opened each one, looking around, before you found a study. You saw his back turned towards you as he leaned with his palms against a desk. The window in front of him showing the dark purple sky with triple moons illuminating his figure.
“Dammit.” He sighed to himself and you quietly closed the door behind you.
“Hey, I thought we were going to drink the entire bar?” You joked but he didn’t laugh. You approached him and rubbed his shoulder. “What’s wrong? Are you alright?”
“I’m fine.” He bit back. You stepped back a little but your hands didn’t leave him. “I’m sorry. Go back downstairs, have fun.”
“I was having fun with you.”
“You were having fun with the ambassador.” He replied and you rolled your eyes.
“He was cocky and dull.”
“You laughed an awful lot.” He scoffed. You pulled away from him and crossed your arms across your chest.
“Doctor McCoy, are you jealous?” You teased, but your teasing nature went away when he didn’t say anything. “Len-”
“Darlin’, I’m fine. I just need a minute.”
“No you don’t.” He turned to see you. Again, he couldn’t help thinking how beautiful you looked against the purple light. “What’s going on? We were having fun, I asked you to dance with me and you didn’t want to, the ambassador didn’t even really ask just took me over, now you’re upset.”
“I never said I didn’t want to dance with you.” He said. “I just didn’t have the...”
“Balls?” He finally laughed a little at that.
“Yeah. He kinda stepped in before I could finally get some.” You heard the music lightly coming through the door and walked over to him, grabbing his arms to wrap them around your waist and you locked yours around his neck.
“There we go. That’s better.” You said. He rested his forehead against yours and you closed your eyes. You swayed together to the faint music, breathing in his musky cologne and your warm and spicy perfume. His arms tightened around you so the tips of your noses touched. You opened your eyes to meet his gaze. While he was someone who didn’t particularly like dancing, he didn’t mind it with you. “You don’t have to be jealous, y’know.”
“Why’s that?”
“Because I don’t want anyone else.” His breath hitched as one of your hands slid down to cup his jaw.
“Darlin’, don’t play games.”
“You heard me earlier. I don’t play games.” You closed the gap between the two of you and kissed him softly. One of the hands wrapped around your waist went up to the back of your neck to pull you impossibly closer. It didn’t take him long to start kissing you back, taking your bottom lip between his. His lips were a little chapped but damn did he know how to kiss. You felt your entire body melting into him as every nerve ending fired. You had to keep yourself from whining when he pulled away.
“I’ve been wanting that to happen a long time.”
“Me too.” He leaned down to kiss you again, fiercer this time as he lead you against the desk. His hands went up to cup your jaw as you grabbed at his back, the dress uniform’s scratchy fabric unpleasant against your fingernails. His tongue darted into your mouth and you welcomed him as he teased you. His hands started moving all over you, wanting to feel as much of you as possible. His mouth moved against your jaw, down to you neck and stopped there. Your breathing had picked up as he kissed against the juncture of your neck and collarbone. “Len-” You gasped out when he kissed, sucked the skin into his mouth. You didn’t care about the mark that would be left there as his lips pressed a soft kiss to the red spot he had created. He pulled away to look at you, his lips slightly swollen.
“Darlin’ I need you to tell me to stop if you don’t want this. I’ve wanted this for so long, wanted to kiss you, to taste you, to feel you.” Your breathing picked up even more as you were rendered speechless. “I just need you to tell me to stop and I will.”
“I don’t want you to. Please Len, don’t stop.” you whispered, pulling at the short hair at the back of his head. You leaned forward and pulled the collar of his shirt down and leaned to give him the same mark he had given you. His hand went to your exposed thigh, feeling the garter that held your phaser. “Always have to be prepared.” You joked, breaking some of the tension. He smiled and pulled the phaser to set it on the chair behind the desk. His hand slid up your thigh again and you jumped a little as he finally reached your panties. His fingers creeped in to find that bundle of nerves that was screaming for attention.
“Shit.” He cursed when he felt how wet you were. He started slowly circling it and your hands went to his biceps, squeezing tightly. His finger moved away from your clit and into your core, quickly joined by a second finger. You were tight around his fingers and you wondered how tight you would feel around his cock. He moved his fingers around a little until he found the spot that made you clench around him and moan into his mouth.
“Yes!” You sighed, his thumb going to rub your clit has his fingers curled inside of you. You messed with his shirt with shaky hands, trying to open it to feel at least some of his skin. When you succeeded, you ran your hands down his chest to reach for his slacks. You pressed your lips together when you felt the bit of wetness at the bulge. You unzipped his pants and pushed them and his underwear down his hips enough to free his cock that slapped against his belly. You both moaned to each other as you ran the palm of your hand over his tip. You encircled him and started jerking him off slowly. The coil in your belly was growing tighter as he continually tapped against you while rubbing the most sensitive part of you. While you always secretly admired his hands, you had underestimated how good his fingers would be. “Shit wait, I don’t want to come yet.”
“What do you need? Whatever you want.” He replied desperately.
“I need you inside me now. I can’t wait anymore.” He cured under his breath and you bunched up your skirt so it wouldn’t get ruined. He pulled his fingers and you swore you could’ve come just from watching him smear your wetness over his cock. He wrapped one of his arms back around your waist with the other holding it, your arms going to grip at his shoulders. His cock caught at your entrance and he grasped the base of himself before slowly starting to push in. Both of your mouths dropped open as he sank into you with small rolls of his hips.
“Fuck you feel too damn good.” You mewled as his accent came out even more. He finally bottomed out inside of you and he felt your grip tighten on his shoulders. “You alright?”
“Perfect, you feel perfect.” You two stayed like that for a moment or two, basking in each other before your hips started to roll as best as they could against him. One of his hands left you to grip the edge of the desk as he pulled out to the tip to push back into you roughly. You could tell he wouldn’t be able to hold back as much as he wanted to as your body bounced against him and the desk creaked underneath you and the fact that you knew the grip he had on your hip would leave bruises. You hooked one of your legs higher around his waist and he gasped out when he sunk even deeper into you. The angle allowed for him to hit the spot that he had found earlier and if it wasn’t for him you would’ve collapsed against the desk. You muffled your cries against his shoulder, still cognisant that you were at a gala.
“Shit, darlin’ I’m not gonna last much longer.” You shook your head against him.
“Me neither.”
“Rub your clit, c’mon.” He groaned into your ear and one of you shaky hands reached down to sloppily circle your clit. He cursed and bit his lip when he felt you clench around him tighter. “C’mon honey, come for me.” Your legs started shaking around him and you felt that coil turning even tighter. “Please come for me.” He whined and you felt that resolve snap inside of you, tingling through every part of your body as your back bowed to press your breasts against him. He kissed you to swallow your cries as your body convulsed. He was soon grunting and groaning loader before you felt hotness cover your walls and his thrusts becoming shorter and deeper. His knuckles were blanched as they went to move your hair out of your face, feeling the imprints the lines of the desk made on his fingers and his breath puffing out against you. Your hands went to feel his pecs, to feel his heart beating wildly.
“See? Told ya you didn’t need to be jealous.” You panted and he chuckled against you, the sound reverberating through you. He leaned down to give you a sweet kiss against your forehead and nuzzled against you.
“We should probably get cleaned up.” He pulled up your panties and you stood up from the desk, squirming when you felt come slide out of you. “Maybe that’ll keep you from dancing with someone else.” You rolled your eyes lovingly and grabbed your phaser to put it back in your garter. You helped him look presentable again and kissed his cheek before going to the door. He grabbed your hand and pulled your back to his chest. “This wasn’t the way I thought that this would happen, but I’m glad it did.”
“How did you want it to happen?” He looked down at you and rubbed his thumb over the mark he had made on your shoulder.
“I would’ve taken you out first once I’d finally gotten the courage to ask you out. Maybe I’d take you to a nice restaurant on a planet like this to get some real food, not replicated. I might take you to a place where you could see the stars because you love ‘em so damn much even though you’re constantly surrounded by them. I was actually trying to track down an old movie you loved so that we could watch it together. I was thinking I would make my move then.” You smiled up at him and played with the medals on his shirt.
“Those things can still happen, y’know. We can still do all of that.” You said. “I would really like to.”
“Me too.” He gave you another kiss before you both left the room, hoping you didn’t leave behind too big of a mess.
XXXXXX
“Janice, I thought it would happen too.” Nyota consoled the yeoman as they wondered where the two of you had went. They had assumed you had both beamed back to the ship after realizing the other was busy either dancing or wallowing.
“But it was perfect! It was just like those sappy vids! Pretty dresses, dancing, two people who won’t admit they’re in love! I just want them to be happy.” “Plus it doesn’t help that we have a bet going.” Hikaru interjected. “If they didn’t get together tonight then she owes me fifty credits.” Nyota shook her head incredulously.
“You two are-” She stopped when she saw the two of you walk back down the stairs together again. “Oh stars-”
“Yes!” Janice celebrated. “Pay up, Hikaru!”
“Wait, that’s not proof of anything!” He whined.
“Think again, hickey at three o’clock.” Hikaru leaned against the table near him and groaned.
“What’s going on?” You asked and they didn’t miss how Leonard had his arm around your waist.
“Oh nothing, we’re just about to toast.” They grabbed some bubbly by a waiter walking by. “To new beginnings and old bets!” Your brows furrowed but you drank from the flute anyway.
You’d figure out what they meant later. For now, you relished being with your doctor and friends.
“C’mon, I owe you a dance.” He said in your ear, leading you away from your friends. Unlike before, you assumed a more formal position with your hand in his, the other on his shoulder, and his other on your hip.
“Glad to see you finally made it out!” Jim chuffed. “Must’ve had enough bourbon.”
“Yeah, that’s it.” Leonard replied and you chuckled. Leonard’s eyes suddenly narrowed over your shoulder before you heard a familiar voice.
“Commander, glad to see you made it back! May I steal you for a moment?” The ambassador asked and you sighed.
“No, you may not.”
“But-”
“She said no. Go chase an asteroid.” Leonard replied and you were surprised at the way he talked.
“Excuse me?”
“Excuse us.” You replied and pushed Leonard away from the ambassador before a diplomatic incident occurred. “Y’know, we’re trying to suck up here.”
“Never was one for kissing ass.” He mused.
“Ah, always with that southern charm.”
“It got you, darlin’.”

McCoy raises his head to meet Jim's gaze and, upon seeing the Captain's grin, offers him a slight smile of his own. "Well. That is reassuring." Far be it from him to mention that Jim is even less inclined to act on logic than McCoy himself sometimes, that he's prone to emotional outbursts that would rival that of any other man, that he's quick to spurn rational objective thinking the moment his attachments are at stake. Maybe that's what makes him so damn talented that he's still here in spite of years of breaking regulations and protocol. It's that personal touch of his.
Tumblr media
Personal enough to enable Kirk to see the impossible: both sides of the never-ending spats between his First Officer and CMO. McCoy stills, brow furrowing, and has to take a second to ponder that, think back to what he knows about Spock's place among the rest of his species and the intense ferocity he's seen whenever he does lose his grip.
He's never thought about it that way before. Not that he doesn't know about Spock's constant inner battle - the Vulcan's real shit at covering that particular conflict, and half the time Leonard's not even sure he's trying to - but from where he's standing, it rarely seems like a war so much as it does Spock just trying to tamper down and bury any shred of emotions he's got in the first place. A very one-sided fight, in the eyes of an outsider who's built his entire life around feeling so deeply that he can't imagine any other way to live. The thought that maybe there's some secrete desire in that brain of his, the urging to give in to whatever human feelings he's harboring, is novel and, not for the first time, he thinks that James T. Kirk really is the smartest damn person in the fleet. The thought will be rescinded the next time he gets his ass handed to him in poorly-planned combat, but it lingers for now, and McCoy's grudging irritation is replaced with an equally-familiar notion that he hates just as badly: unshakeable curiosity regarding the mystery that is Mister Spock.
"Jim," he says slowly, drifting back over to the man when he gestures for him to do so, "that just might be the most insightful thing you've said to me in years." Then, to make sure it's not perceived as an insult, he knocks shoulders with Kirk once he's back at his side. "And you're usually pretty inspired. Suppose I just wish—" he cuts himself abruptly, dangerously close to saying something he'll regret ( and something he's not drunk enough by far to handle thinking ). Face twisting itself into a thoughtful frown, he rubs his knuckles together and shakes his head. "Well, never mind. Nothing either one of us can do about that. That we haven't already tried," he amends, casting Jim a sideways look. He knows full well of the constant pressure they exude, all the poking and prodding they both do to get Spock to open up. No wonder it feels like a marvel and a victory every time the Vulcan opts to engage with their pestering. "Like chipping away at a mountain, isn't it?"
❛ Logic , Mr. McCoy , ❜ He sounds , foot tapping against the floor ❛ Escapes even me , sometimes. ❜ He finishes with a grin. While their bickering is . . explosive , to say the least , Kirk knows full well how they both thrive off of it. Almost like using their banter as an emotional punching bag. A way to blow the steam off. He personally doesn’t completely understand it , his preferred method being a battle of wits , not a war. Kirk can throw an insult or two , of course , but the type of bantering those two do would drain him beyond belief. A positive man , he likes to think himself. So he’s much better as a spectator in this game of theirs. From his seated position , he watches the other for a moment , eyes narrowing as he looks him up and down. After a moment , he raises a hand and waves Bones over to where he was seated.
Tumblr media
Of course he does - he’s heard the complaints , Spock skipping his physicals or attempting to run out on Bones when trying to patch a wound up. ❛ I think he understands far more than he lets on. ❜ He finally responds , leaning back a little. ❛ He’s just not sure which side of his he wants to listen to half the time , so he chooses to say nothing. ❜

Why Does God Need A Starship? (Live Reaction):
I always thought Sybok was cool and interesting and NOW I’m sure! You know it’s times like these that I’m grateful I kinda came back into the Star Trek fandom on my own, because I don’t have to deal with Opinions of older/louder Trekkies. This one kinda has a lukewarm reputation but I’m getting the vibe that I’ll genuinely enjoy it.
Yet again Bones is serving up some LOOKS damn! Look at these elder gays! Spock has rocket boots, amazing. “Because it’s there” and then falling off the goddamn mountain is such a James Tiberius Kirk thing to do 😂 “HI BONES!” These guys omfg. OH MY GOD SO WE DO SEE CAITIANS OUTSIDE THE CARTOONS?? Hell yeah! Also pole dancing to no music, is... weird. Lmao. Also okay I’m sorry Sybok is cool! Sybok is cool and interesting and I really like him! (Not morally obviously dude is shady as all fuck, but a cool dude nontheless!) Always fascinated by Cult Leader type villains, especially when they point out valid criticisms about the society from which they came (important distinction is that the CAUSE is not vilified, but the person and their means, something M****l has largely forgotten)
Awww I may ship Hikura, but Uhura & Scotty are also cute as hell!! Awwwwwww!!!! Old married couples can be so freaking cute. Chekov & Sulu are LOST ohhhh my god this is hilarious, these two idiots. Also can we talk about how Koenig’s eyebrows are slowly gaining sentience and Takei aged like fine wine? Lol. THE HOLY TRINITY OF ELDER GAYS ARE CAMPINGGGG! I’m- oh my god they’re so cute. “Marshmelon” this is cute as hell oh my god. They’re indulging and messing with Spock at the same time I’m dead! They’re singing ohh my god this gonna give me cavities with how sweet it is!!!
This Klingon dude is frickin ROCKING the eyeliner! Bruhhhh was the frickin spotlight necessary! Leave the gays alone SHHHH they’re SLEEPING!! Lmao. Yo I’ll be real this movie starts incredibly slowly but I seriously do not mind, it’s relaxing to not have to worry about missing important details if you look away for a second, it’s nice. WAIT? Does Jim’s shirt say GOT MILK?!!? Oh no, it says go climb a rock, oh thank god [“fatty milkers” flashbacks]
Seriously McCoy is just radiating so much old southern lady/gay energy in this movie and I love it so freaking much “if you ask me (and you haven’t) this is a horrible idea” he sounds like my North Carolina living Meemaw. Wow you can see Spock low-key taking psychic damage from seeing Sybok 😲 V’tosh Ka’tur of the highest order huh? Still disturbing that his government literally cast him out, that’s a red flag 😬. What happened with Sybok is probably a lot of why Spock was pressured to be as Vulcan as he was, I’m sure Sybok was a massive scandal/shame for Sarek, and knowing him, he’d end up making that his kids’ problem not his 🙄
Oh neat!! Chekov is in the in the captain’s chair. Oh this is the song they replaced Nichols’s voice for 😤 but also GIRL THAT WAS BADASS AND THAT SONG WAS A BOP! Quick question, wow these “alien” horses are somehow even worse than the unicorn dog (also it’s a desert planet, wouldn’t it be better to have, like, alien camels or something?) This dude’s Klingon is freakin impeccable btw! He’s really got the vibe down! Jim did you forget how fuckin bananas strong Vulcans are??? Sybok went like 😡☹️ when Spock pointed that laser rifle at him 😂😂😂 again even tho I know Scotty and Uhura are married but it’s scenes like getting held hostage right there where they radiate such POWER COUPLE energy GAWD! 🤩
Stay out of this Bones we’re having a lover’s quarrel! Jim is taking fucking psychic damage from this entire conversation lol. Okayyyy whatever Sybok is doing is definitely some kind of mind control type thing, that shit is creepy af no thank youuuuuu (spores anyone?). Oh my god Spock & Jim are so married lmao, that “I’m sorry” Vulcan kiss in the brig man Aw. (Oh man Magic’s of mega-tsu got devani mixed by that comment lame!) SCOTTYYYYYY!! YAS!
Yay rocket boot glomp! Lmfao! Sybok needs to brush up on his earth history Columbus did NOT figure out the world is round 🙄 Ah Scotty being like “listen, you’re not okay rn so I’m not really down for whatever you think you wanna do right now it can wait until you’re right in the head again” and they could’ve not done that and it would’ve been creepy (especially by today’s standards) but they didn’t! And that was awesome!
Bones being skeptical and has every right to be! He’s faced down would be gods and would-be messiahs before! Also I’ve seen people judge Bones for being the first to cave but Sybok totally did that shit to him without consent! He didn’t go back on his beliefs, Sybok forced him to! BONES PROTECTION SQUAD IS HERE AND ITS ME! Oh Bones, man, poor babeyyyy (fuck Sybok!) 😭😭😭 OH MY GOD BONESSSSSS Sybok leave him alone! Goddamnit! Leave him alone!
I think Jim can see Spock’s Sybok induced vision cuz they’re ✨Bonded✨ (it didn’t seem like they could see Bones’s, other than what Bones was doing). JIM KNOWS SO MUCH BETTER! ITS HOW HE BEAT THE SPORES ITS HIS CORE! I UNDERSTAND AND LOVE HIM FOR IT!!! Spock 😍😍😍 he’s like, you’re bullshit happiness pill doesn’t work on me cuz I am whole for the first time in my life, and I love my husband, and I already learned my lesson decades ago 💚🖖🏻💚 (who knew how important the character development from This Side of Paradise AND Return To Tommorow would be??? Hell yeah!)
I love Scotty so much 🥰 hardcore badass Hufflepuff from beginning to end! Also I hope Sybok appears in SNW that could be really really interesting if they do it right! ITS GOD (derogatory) REVERE HIM! Oh here comes that legendary question!! “What dies God need with a starship?” Red flag don’t call Jim a creature! Oh shit god has laxer eyes oh no lmao! Bones snaps out of whatever Sybok did to him when “God” hurts his friends and we LOVE HIM FOR ITTTT! Awww Spock & Sybok and be saaaaad, oh shit! Into the lightning to fight a mirror of yourself like Lazarus in that one episode!
OH SHIT THE KLINGONS ARE HERE! Oh damn Spock just swore a cuss the right way, at a Klingon General no less! General dude just went “caotain tell Kirk you are sorry!” LMAO! NOT IN FRONT OF THE KLINGONS 😂😂😂😍 KISS DAMNIT!! God this whole after scene is so good, maybe the god is the friends we made along the way. “I lost a brother once” you also lost SAM dummy, I know you were just telling Spock you love him but still. SHUT UP SPOCK IS PLAYING ROW ROW ROW YOUR BOAT ON HIS LYRE??
Okay, seriously, I unironically love this movie, it might be my favorite out of the ones I’ve seen so far actually. TMP felt like the movies getting their sea legs, but it was slow and messy, it wasn’t as thought provoking as it wanted to be (aside from Spock’s wonderful arc in that film). WoK & TSFS are amazing for drama and angst and Spirk content, but they weren’t really asking the big questions Star Trek is wonderful for. Then The Voyage Home is just plain silly and fun and wholesome. But this, this movie had depth! The whole premise is “what is god and is there is one?” I LOVE that as someone who has a very complicated relationship with spirituality. I also already loved the TOS episodes This Side of Paradise, Return To Tomorrow, The Omega Glory and The Way To Eden, and this movie had the best of those concepts! Sybok was such a fascinating antagonist/anti-hero and I hope we get to see him explored more on screen one day, even if it’s just through Discovery/SNW flashbacks. It may have started off slow and it’s not without its flaws but this felt like the Star Trekkiest TOS Star Trek movie so far!

Snowballs for Shore Leave - Leonard McCoy x GN!Reader
WOO! So, the lovely @writerdee1701 thought to suggest ""If you throw that snowball, you’re declaring war” with McCoy?" for a holiday request! And this came to mind!! I hope you guys enjoy it!! Please let me know what you think! ( @outside-the-government here is some wholesome Bones for you!)
The planet was COVERED in snow, something that seemed to be part of a seasonal pattern similar to what you’d see on Earth. And, given the time that the Enterprise arrived at said planet, it was perfect – it was nearing those wonderful winter holidays, and everyone aboard was itching for some shore leave to relax and pretend that they were home.
You were part of the first group down, along with Sulu, Chekov, and Scotty. The Russian bounded out into the snow with a laugh, and jumped into the first snowbank he saw, disappearing from sight. You smiled as you fixed the scarf around your neck and tugged the stocking cap down over your ears.
“Ya know, I’ve got an idea,” Scotty said as Sulu dropped to the ground and rolled onto his back. He started working on a snow angel.
You looked over at Scotty. Pulling your earmuffs over your ears, you asked, “What idea?”
He grinned. Grabbing Sulu from the ground, Scotty dragged you both over to the snowdrift that Chekov was wiggling free from. You four whispered, and plotted, and worked on your plan.
When then the next landing party came down, consisting of Captain Kirk, Dr. McCoy, and Commander Spock, over half of them were immediately pelted with snowballs. The three men ducked when the onslaught came, and Kirk – laughing – pulled his closest friends to a previously man snow fort. They knelt behind it just as a snowball whizzed overhead.
“Are you kiddin’ me?!” Leonard shouted.
You peeked over the snow fort you hid behind with a wicked grin. “Dr. McCoy!” you innocently called, “I didn’t think you’d be coming down already!”
“Bullshit you didn’t, darlin’!” he yelled back. McCoy settled back against the snow with a grunt.
Kirk glanced around, noting the two carefully made piles of snowballs, how long and tall the fort was, and the slightly trampled snow angel off to his right. “They put some work into this,” he said.
“I don’t mean to sound ignorant, Captain, but what is the significance of all of this?” asked Spock. He ducked his head as another snowball flew over his head, and someone on the other side of the fort shouted.
“It’s all in good fun, Spock,” answered Jim. He picked up a snowball and tossed it in his hand. “Celebrating the winter season.” He held the snowball out of Bones.
The doctor took it with a bitter scowl. “I hate snow,” he grumbled. He scrunched up in his coat, thankful he had worn the waterproof gloves. “It’s too damn cold.”
“Snow is frozen water, Doctor,” said Spock as he picked up a snowball, “I thought you would know that by now.” Kirk leaned back as Bones threw the snowball at the side of Spock’s head, nailing the Vulcan in the ear. Spock only blinked. Somewhere out in the middle of the battlefield was the sound of someone beaming down, and another round of snowballs were hurled at the newcomers.
Uhura ducked behind their fort with a gentle swear, laughing as she shook the snow off her coat. “I don’t remember the last time I had a snowball fight!” she exclaimed, curling up as tight as she could behind the wall.
“I don’t think I’ve ever had one,” Kirk replied. He motioned to Spock. “But, uh, your boyfriend here has already become a casualty to the war.”
She gasped. “By who?”
“Me,” replied Bones.
Another ball sailed overhead, exploding against a nearby tree. Leonard ducked despite being covered.
“Leonard,” you sang, “C’mon, join in!” Your voice was dangerously close. He peeked around the wall to see you squatting behind a tree.
“If you throw that snowball, you’re declarin’ war!” he shouted.
You winked, then threw the ball you held in your hand. It narrowly missed his head. Ducking behind the wall, Bones exchanged looks with his friends. Uhura scooped up a ball and stood, throwing it in the direction of the fort across the field. Kirk jumped up with a loud battle cry. McCoy lunged for the trees. You squealed at the sight of your boyfriend coming for you and turned tail to run. It was too late, though: he tackled you into the snow with a grunt and you two rolled. He managed to pin beneath him.
You puffed as you stared up at him, chest heaving. He grinned. “You thought you could best me? Really?”
“I thought I’d try,” you said with a smile. You lifted your arm and smacked a snowball against the side of his head. “Gotcha.” His face was priceless – eyes closed, mouth wide, snow dripping down his cheeks. He rapidly shook his head, slinging snow over you as well. You laughed. He wiped the rest of the snow off his face and stared down at you. “You know,” you sighed as the giggles passed, “It’s nice to see you like this. Relaxed.” You pushed your fingers through his wet hair and over his pink ears. “You should do this more often.”
“Relax or get caught in the middle of a snowball fight?” he whispered. You watched him lower himself closer to you.
“Relax,” you replied.
He thumbed a melted piece of snow off your cheek. “Maybe,” he murmured. He tilted your chin up and pressed his cold lips against yours. You wrapped your arms around his neck.
Not even an hour in, and this shore leave was already proving to be your favorite yet.

The Roommate Files: Pandora's Box
Part Two: KIRK
Word Count: 1,556
Okay so I know I said I would just randomly post these but as you all know I can't help myself. Sooooo I'll just post what I got and update as I make the chapters. No deadlines just random awesomeness from yours truly. No beta babes because I enjoy pure chaos.
With Love,
-H
Jim Kirk opened his mouth in a combination of awe, terror, regret, and excitement. The home that stood before him was falling apart. And that was putting it nicely. Scratching his head Jim momentarily contemplated if moving into such a place was a good idea. He didn’t think about his actions often but when he did things usually went fifty-fifty. This could end being one of the best decisions he has ever made or he’ll be dead and cut up in this guy’s basement within the next twenty-four hours.
“The guy looked genuine on the phone…” he muttered thinking back to when he first met the guy who would be his landlord. Grumpy for sure and a doctor. That much he has worked out. ‘Doesn’t mean he still can’t be a crazy serial killer.’ one of his inner voices whispered. Shaking his head Jim picked up his bag and made his way to the old front door.
“Still need a place to crash, even if I’m in the lair of Hannibal Lector,” he sighed knocking on the door. Jim shifted from foot to foot impatient as he waited, he could hear a shuffle and then some footsteps. He was about to knock again when the door suddenly screeched open.
Standing there was not who he was expecting. A man about his age with dark hair and eyes greeted him instead of the good doctor. The man inclined his head in greeting,
“Uh hi, I was supposed to meet McCoy about a room.”
“I would assume then that you are James Kirk,”
Jim frowned but nodded, the other man opened the door with a little effort. “Doctor McCoy sends his apologies, he was called away to the hospital and has instructed me to…’ show you the ropes,’. I am Spock your other roommate,”
Jim blinked his mouth hanging open for a moment before he snapped it shut. Following Spock, Jim entered the house and only had a little trouble with the door. He had to deal with something familiar back in Riverside.
Jim looked at the inside of the house curiously. It was nothing like the outside, it looked as if someone was actually trying to fix it up. Spock turned and waited patiently for Jim to take in his new surroundings.
“Doctor McCoy has been working on the house on his off days. Though today he was called away in a hurry and was unable to put away his materials. Usually, things are tidy.” Spock said eyeing the saw and other tools lying haphazardly around, what Jim had to guess was a dining room.
“It’s okay. Already cleaner than the last place I stayed in.”
Following Spock around the home was an adventure in itself. He was told to watch where he stepped, how to beat the hot water heater into submission, and warned about multiple danger zones. By the end of the tour of the ground floor, Spock stood by the old staircase in the front room his hands folded neatly behind his back. When Jim picked up his discarded pack Spock indicated a laminated piece of paper that was tacked onto the semi-finished wall. “These are the rule of the house. When I first arrived Doctor McCoy only had ten, I have added ten more with his permission. Please adhere to them.”
It wasn’t just the fact that Spock said it all with a straight face but seemed to actually implore Jim to follow a list of rules, it was the fact that he “added” to the original list that the homeowner made. Jim clamped his mouth shut to try to keep from laughing. Not trusting his voice he simply nodded and followed Spock up the stairs.
“Please follow the orange tape.”
Jim looked down at the zig-zagging orange on the old wooden steps. Spock catching onto Jim’s questioning glance tilted his head to the side. “Doctor McCoy has been...quite busy as of late. He was working on the stair today,” he commented quietly. Jim pressed his lips into a straight line, his brows furrowing slightly, saying nothing he followed the orange markers. He coughed out a laugh when Spock hopped over the second to last step. His bowl cut bouncing ever so slightly.
Following his new roommate’s lead, Jim shifted and jumped up onto the top step. ‘I wonder if this place is haunted, it looks like it would be haunted.’ he mused with a little shudder. Spock was watching him with curiosity and Jim couldn’t help but laugh nervously.
“What were you saying again?”
The stoic man raised a single eyebrow but didn’t comment on Jim’s wandering mind. “Your room is across the hall from mine. The bathroom on this floor is functioning and to your immediate right -”
Jim looked to his right seeing the into the open very clean -- and very much to his surprise done -- washroom. Nodding he looked back to Spock who continued on smoothly.
“Doctor McCoy’s room is at the end of the hall and is off-limits. No exceptions and in his words, ‘You must be dying’ or you must be invited.”
Jim looked at the thick master bedroom door at the end of the hall his metaphorical devil and angel already arguing on his shoulders. Spock stopped in front of another door, again on the right side of the room, and pulled an old antique key from his pants pocket. Unlocking the door and gently pushing it open with a long creak, Spock took a polite step back holding the key out to Jim expectantly.
Taking the offered key Jim stepped into the room and took an interested look around. The walls were a golden yellow, the floor a polished dark wood that contrasted nicely with the brightness of the room. The high ceiling was recently painted a clean white, an old brass hanging light flickered on when he flipped the switch. “Maybe he should have been an interior designer instead of a doctor,” Jim muttered dumping his bag roughly onto the old wrought iron bed. The smell of lemons and cucumber wafted up from the clean sheets and bedding. Spock stood in the door with his hands neatly nestled behind his back.
“Indeed, Doctor McCoy has endeavored to finish our rooms before our moving in. When I had arrived my quarters were in a similar state. He had also said to inform you to decorate how you please, just no…’ weird shit,’ as he says.” Spock intoned dryly and Jim snorted out a laugh.
“No weird shit got it,” Jim said with a crooked smile. His eyes lit up at the empty towering bookshelf in the corner of the room.
Without another word, Spock left Jim to his wandering and unpacking. He went back to his own room to work on a pile of reports and not stare out the window at the young woman across the way.
Several hours later Jim woke up with a sharp gasp a thundering boom woke him from a deep sleep. Turning he looked toward the window and winced at the sudden blinding flash of lightning. Blowing out a breath, Jim chuckles at himself. ‘Just a storm’ he thought tiredly. Swallowing he wrinkled his nose at the dryness. Rubbing his eyes Jim threw off the covers and stumbled toward the door. Walking toward the bathroom Jim paused at the sound of a muffled bang and a curse coming from downstairs.
Turning away from the restroom Jim moved to the stairs. Hovering at the top of the stairs, another clap of thunder shook the house followed by another flash of lightning. It lit up the downstairs casting creepy shadows the only sound was the pouring rain and the constant groans of old wood.
Forgetting himself for a moment Jim stepped down. He knew he fucked up as soon as gravity and his brain caught up to each other. But by then it was too late. Jim stepped down on the forbidden stair.
Jim’s startled pained yell could be heard above the thunder. Another thud from downstairs and suddenly a familiar man was at the bottom. “Damnit, I thought I told Spock to tell ya about the stairs!”
McCoy was crouched down by Jim’s bloody trapped leg in what seemed like a blink of an eye. “He did! Half asleep...forgot!” Jim hissed his sentences broken by a severe burning shooting up his calf right into his crotch. Spock was suddenly at his shoulder looking down at the problem with a sort of fascinated detachment. McCoy pulled a flashlight from a tool belt flipped it on and shined it right at Jim’s wound. The sight of it made Kirk want to puke so he squeezed his eyes shut and began to focus on breathing instead.
“Damnit. Spock grab my spare medical kit from my room. It’s on top of the dresser.” McCoy ordered and the other man promptly disappeared. Placing the light in between his teeth, McCoy gently tugged and pulled the loose wood away from Jim’s buried ankle.
“Okay kid, sit down before you pass the fuck out on me,”
“You’re house is…” Jim couldn’t finish his thought so he just did as the doctor told him to.
“Is a glorified death trap, yeah. But hey it’s got good Bones…”
A hysterical laugh bubbled up Jim’s throat. ‘Good Bones, huh?’

Against All Odds
Part 765
McCoy
McCoy was glad for Scotty’s warmth as they had watched the fireworks. Now Scotty still had an arm around him, holding him close as they stood on the stairs and waved off the car carrying their parents and Spock’s.
He caught sight of Robbie standing next to them. His face showed his mixed emotions about the day. McCoy was glad Robbie and Leah had got time together, even if it was only an afternoon and part of the evening. And to make it their public outing. McCoy wondered what might be printed by morning.
He felt Scotty look over as well as they both heard the sigh drop from Robbie’s mouth.
“Come on lad,” Scotty said to his brother. “Let’s get Len out of this mild breeze.”
McCoy glared at Scotty but saw Robbie’s smile.
“Aye,” Robbie agreed. “Such a fair wind.”
“I’m from a warm planet,” McCoy protested with an eyeroll. He moved away from Scotty’s grip and began to walk back inside.
“Ye think we’re bad, ye should hear Pavel,” Robbie called behind him.
McCoy could hear the brothers murmuring in Gaelic behind him. He held the door and they all entered the main hall. McCoy suppressed a shiver at the sudden warmth of the room.
“Do ye want to do anything?” Scotty asked his brother.
Robbie shook his head slowly. “I think I’d just like to get some rest.”
“Ok. If ye need anything…”
“Thanks bràthair,” Robbie said. He headed for the stairs to the boy’s dorm.
“And what do you want to do?” McCoy asked.
Scotty watched his brother for another moment before turning back to McCoy.
“I thought I was promised a whole night,” he replied with a cheeky smile.
McCoy raised an eyebrow. “You don’t want to go hang out for a bit first?”
He blinked in surprise as Scotty moved in and kissed him fiercely.
“No,” Scotty said when he pulled back.
“Ok.” McCoy grabbed Scotty’s hand and began to lead him the way Robbie had just left.
The trip to their room had never seemed so long McCoy thought to himself as he opened the door. He had barely turned from closing it before Scotty was pushing him against it, pushing in for another heated kiss. His fingers found the lock, then met behind Scotty’s neck.
McCoy couldn’t help but laugh into the kiss as Scotty’s fingers began to undo his shirt buttons.
“Eager huh?” he laughed as they broke apart for a breath.
“Don’t act like ye aren’t too,” Scotty said, pressing their bodies closer, drawing a gasp out of McCoy.
His hands dropped to Scotty’s hips and he began to push him backward towards their bed. Scotty finished McCoy’s buttons and pushed the shirt off his shoulders. A shiver went through McCoy at the cool air on his bare skin.
“I’ve got ye love,” Scotty murmured between kisses. “I’ll keep ye warm.”
McCoy’s hands began on Scotty’s shirt, pulling it over his head, and tossing it behind them to land somewhere. Another kiss and they parted to each finish undressing. A moment later found them in their bed, Scotty keeping his promise to keep McCoy warm.
McCoy blinked drowsily. His eyelids were still heavy and everything around him was warm and cozy. He closed his eyes again. The quiet beating of a heart filled his ear. He smiled. Scotty. He nuzzled his head in closer. A satisfied sigh left him.
After a moment his curiosity grew too strong. He opened an eye and lifted his head enough to see the clock. McCoy smiled. He cuddled back in tight. It was much too early and they had plenty more time to sleep. He let out a long, slow breath as an arm tightened around him. Memories of the night before surrounded him as he drifted back to sleep.
The school was quiet when they finally got up and headed down for breakfast. Everyone’s energy seemed to have been spent on the festivities the day before.
“Want to go for a walk down to the lake?” McCoy asked Scotty at breakfast.
Scotty glanced at the overcast sky outside the windows.
“It’s going to rain mo ghràdh.”
“Oh. Maybe we should just stay in and read then.”
“Maybe.”
“Sure,” Jim grinned, “‘read.’”
“What are ye going to do?” Robbie asked Jim pointedly.
Jim grinned bigger. “Read.”
Groans came from the friends around them as Jim laughed.
Part 766
Scotty
Days later, Scotty sat in front of his computer, staring at the screen and the words he had written up until now. His eyes scanned the lines over and over again and he couldn't help but sigh.
It wasn't good enough. This was his damn application for Starfleet! It needed to be perfect!
Once again, the Scotsman deleted a paragraph, but then he just couldn't think of a better way to write it. It was making him all so anxious.
He leaned back in his seat and ran a hand across his face. If only he was already done with writing it...
"Hey there leannan, how's it going?"
Scotty looked over his shoulder to see Leonard, who had apparently just finished swimming practice, entering their room. His fiancé knew what he was working on. After all, it was the reason why Scotty hadn't had the time to watch Leonard's training.
A quick kiss was pressed to Scotty's cheek as his love hugged him from behind, then sat down beside him.
"Not too well. I... I just cannae find the right words," Scotty muttered dejectedly. He was good at so many things, but writing applications apparently wasn't one of them.
Leonard leaned closer and looked at the screen. A soft smile formed on his lips.
"It's horrible, isn't it?" Scotty asked, burying his face in his hands. He wished for the ground to open and swallow him whole.
"Come on, it's not *that* bad," Leonard said, placing one hand on his fiancé's knee and squeezing it gently.
Scotty's hands dropped back into his lap.
"But it is! Starfleet will never accept me with an application like this!"
It was hopeless! *He* was hopeless!
Leonard just chuckled softly while he raised his hand and ran it through the Scotsman's hair.
"I always knew that I'd marry a mad man, but I didn't know-"
"That he's a drama queen too. I know, I know," Scotty finished, sighing heavily.
It was so typical of Leonard to use Scotty's own words against him. Especially in a situation like that.
"Leannan, you're doing great. A few typos here and there, but... I can help with that."
Leonard's eyes were filled with warmth and love as he gently stroked Scotty's cheek with his thumb. He meant what he said.
Scotty still had his doubts though.
"What if I'm not good enough? What if they accept all of ye and I'll stay behind?"
His voice was trembling at the horrible thought.
"Scotty, your grades speak for themselves! You are brilliant! If Starfleet doesn't accept you, they are the dumbest idiots in the whole wide galaxy!"
Leonard pulled Scotty in for a kiss and the Scotsman leaned into it. It felt good. It soothed him.
When their lips parted, the prince held Scotty's face in both his hands, smiling softly.
"Now let's get this application done."
At dinner everyone was chatting about their future plans. All of their friends had chosen to apply for Starfleet. And the more Scotty thought about it, the happier he was.
He looked at the others. Sulu and Chekov. Jim and Spock. Keenser and Robbie. Leonard and himself. They'd all stay together if everything went according to plan.
He had thought that so many things would change, but maybe he had been wrong. Maybe everything would stay the same. No... get even better.
They'd leave school behind and live their lives just the way they wanted to.

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
As the night wore on, the others departed one by one, until Maggie and Leonard were the only ones left at the table. At some point in their conversation, this was brought to their attention, at which they both burst into laughter.
"Oh my goodness, we've talked the whole night," Maggie observed. "I hope the others don't feel like I neglected them," she worried.
"I'm sure they're not offended, sweetheart. I think this is the most fun I've had in a very long time. You're easy to talk to, and you're kinda pretty, too," McCoy remarked, with a grin and a slight slurring of his words.
Maggie blushed at his compliment. "Come on, Leonard, you've been drinking. Let's not get carried away," she laughed nervously. "But thank you. Will you please walk me back to my quarters?" She asked.
"I'd be honored to, darlin', just lead the way," he said as he eased his way off of his barstool. He guided Maggie to the door with his hand on the small of her back. Once outside the rec area, he dropped his hand only to pick hers up and interlace their fingers.
The good doctor thought it might have been too bold a move and possibly a mistake after having just met that day. However, Maggie didn't remove her hand, and when she looked up at him and smiled, he couldn't help but return the gesture.
All too soon, they had arrived at the door to her quarters. "Well, this is my stop," Maggie chuckled.
"So it is," McCoy replied softly. He reached up with his left hand and cradled her cheek. "I'd really like to see you again, Maggie. Would you like to meet for breakfast tomorrow?" he asked.
"That sounds wonderful. Meet you in the mess hall, 0800 hrs?" Maggie suggested.
"I'll see you there, darlin'," McCoy responded. With his hand still on her cheek, he inched closer while gently guiding her towards him. She closed her eyes when his soft lips met her forehead. "Sweet dreams,  Maggie," he whispered as he pulled back.
"Good night, Leonard," she replied softly.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Maggie was in line for her breakfast when Lt. Uhura came up behind her. "You and Dr. McCoy looked pretty cozy last night," she teased. "You two must have talked all night."
"I am so sorry for neglecting everyone, I didn't mean to. I did have a wonderful time talking with Dr. McCoy," Maggie blushed.
"I believe in Georgia, where he comes from, they call that 'sparkin', my friend," Uhura giggled.
"Oh, shut up," Maggie playfully bumped Uhura's hip and they both burst into laughter.
Dr. McCoy had already   arrived at the table with his breakfast choices. He caught sight of Maggie and Uhura in line together, laughing about something. Her smile makes her even more lovely, if that's at all possible, he thought, smiling himself.
Maggie and Uhura finished making their breakfast selections and took their trays over to where Dr. McCoy was waiting. He stood when the ladies reached his table, then took Maggie's hand to guide her to the chair next to him. "Good morning, you two," he greeted them.
"Good morning, Dr. McCoy. Sleep well, I hope?" Maggie asked.
"Better than I have in quite a while, thank you. So, you have your first shift today in the Science Department, right Lieutenant?" McCoy inquired.
"Today's the day, and I'm so excited I can hardly sit still!" Maggie exclaimed. "I hope I do all right and don't make a mess of things," she remarked before taking a bite of her breakfast.
"I think you'll do just fine, darlin'," McCoy drawled.
Captain Kirk joined their table and the conversation by saying, "Relax, Lieutenant, everything will be fine. Just remember, though, whatever you break will be taken out of your paycheck," Kirk teased. "I'm kidding, I promise!" he held up his hands and broke into a grin.
Maggie initially froze at the captain's words, then relaxed when she realized he was joking. "Very funny, Captain," she sassed. She looked down at her watch and noted the time. "Welp, time for me to go, don't want to be late on my first shift. Have a great day, everyone!" she called over her shoulder.
"That woman is pure sunshine, isn't she?" Kirk commented as he slid his gaze over to McCoy.
"She sure is," McCoy replied, a smile gracing his face as he watched Maggie leave. "'Bout time for me to head out as well. Try not to do something dumb and get hurt, huh, Jim? See you later, Lieutenant," he said as he left.
Kirk turned to Lt. Uhura. "Well, well, well. Isn't this interesting," he mused as she nodded. "Have to keep an eye on those two," he remarked.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Maggie's first day as a science officer went well, and it wasn't long before she settled into a routine. Fortunately, her shifts rotated on the same schedule as Dr. McCoy's did, so they were able to spend time together.
They took turns hanging out in each others' quarters, sometimes to listen to music, other times to just talk. They generally took meals together as well, and were sometimes joined by the captain and other crew members. Dr. McCoy even got to cash in on Maggie's promise to play a few racks of 8-ball with him.
The more time they spent together, the more Maggie noticed her feelings for Dr. McCoy had changed. At first, it was an easy companionship, someone to share a meal with and unwind with at the end of a stressful day.
Then she started noticing the little things, like how his hand felt like it had always belonged in hers. Or how his Southern drawl would slip out when he was telling her a story, along with a lot of "sweetheart", "sugar" and "darlin'". She loved the rough stubble on his cheeks when he didn't have time to shave. Most of all, he made her feel as though she was the most important person in the room, at least to him.
For Leonard, it was a lot of the same. Maggie was his first thought in the morning and the last one at night. And she always seemed to know exactly what he needed when he needed it.
Once, after a particularly stressful day, his hands ached from the number of patients he'd seen that day. Maggie took hold of his hand and began to massage it, starting at the palm and working out to the tips of his fingers. Then, she took care of massaging his neck and shoulders. Afterwards, he could swear that he'd never felt so relaxed in his life.
Which is how their first kiss happened. When Maggie was done with the massage, she wrapped her arms around him and leaned her forehead against the back of his head. She took a deep breath, which felt warm on his neck. He turned to face Maggie, who had a shy smile on her face. McCoy grazed his knuckles on her cheek and leaned in to mesh his lips with hers in a soft, tender kiss.
"Been waitin' to do that for a while now, darlin'," McCoy revealed.
"Well, you certainly don't have to wait as long before doing it again," Maggie teased. Needing no further prompting, McCoy moved in again. This time, the kiss was a little more demanding, but no less passionate than the previous one.
It's no secret that his first marriage to Jocelyn was a bust, although he did get an amazing daughter, Joanna, out of it. After the divorce, Leonard had been on plenty of 'first dates', but nothing really progressed beyond that. At least, not until Maggie came along. Jim's right, he thought. This woman is pure sunshine, and she is shining it right at my heart, he grinned to himself.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
At about Maggie's 6-month anniversary aboard ship, the Enterprise played host to a visiting trio of doctors. One of them, a Dr. Fiona Richardson, was there to compare notes with Dr. McCoy on new field surgical techniques. Their tour aboard the Enterprise was scheduled to last about two weeks.
Dr. Richardson was tall, had long wavy red hair, sparkling green eyes and was incredibly attractive. To say that Maggie felt a bit intimidated by her was putting it mildly. She was also a bit concerned at the amount of time Dr. Richardson spent with Dr. McCoy compared to her.
Maggie tried to keep in mind that Leonard was interested in her, not Dr. Richardson. Convincing herself of that got a little more difficult when he'd had to back out of a few dates they'd planned together. Work always seemed to interfere, and she couldn't ignore that Dr. Richardson was becoming a factor. She hadn't wanted to push the issue with Leonard, but at the same time, it was starting to affect her mood.
"Just talk to him, Maggie. It doesn't do any good to bottle this up and make yourself miserable," Uhura reminded her.
"I know, it's just, how can I compete with someone like that? She's tall, gorgeous, and gets to spend more time with Leonard than I have lately," Maggie grumbled. Then she shook her head to clear her thoughts. "You know what? You're right, Nyota. I'll go down there with a cup of coffee or something for Leonard  as an afternoon pick-me-up," Maggie decided.
"Really? Is that what you're calling it," Uhura teased, waggling her eyebrows.
"Oh, stop it!" Maggie chuckled and hugged her friend. "Thank you, Nyota. I don't know what I'd do without you," she choked out.
"Go on, get out of here and go get your man! Crazy woman," Uhura grumbled good-naturedly.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Captain Kirk strolled into the MedBay to see how things were going with his CMO. He found McCoy sitting at his desk, absently staring at nothing on the wall. "Hey, Bones? Everything all right?" Kirk asked.
"Hmm?" McCoy broke out of his trance to notice his captain had entered the room. "Yeah, I was just thinking about Maggie. I haven't been able to spend much time with her lately, and I think she's starting to pull back from me," McCoy grumbled.
"Well, your schedule ought to ease up soon, after Dr. Richardson and her colleagues go back to Starbase 42," Kirk pointed out. "Then you'll be able to make things up to Maggie and you can get back to the way things were," he finished. "How is it working with Dr. Richardson, though?" he asked.
Maggie entered the MedBay with a cup of coffee for Leonard. She was about halfway to his office when she heard what sounded like the captain and doctor having a conversation.
"I mean, she's very knowledgeable, but she just doesn't know when to stop talking!" Leonard commented and shared a laugh with the captain.
"So....at the risk of being punched, how do you feel about her? I mean, you two have been seeing each other for a bit now. Well?" Kirk prompted.
Maggie was having a hard time making out their words, so she stepped a little closer to the door, careful not to spill the coffee in her hands. She knew she shouldn't be eavesdropping, but curiosity got the better of her.
"Maggie...." McCoy said softly. "Ah, she's wonderful. Smart, kind, always thinking of others first. Sexy, too," Maggie could hear the smile in Leonard's voice. "And I love her. I do, and you know I never thought I'd say those words again to another woman, not after Jocelyn. But in this short time of knowing her, spending all this time with her....it just feels right," McCoy declared.
All of a sudden there was a crashing noise outside of his office. The door flew open, and the men saw Maggie picking up the pieces of a smashed cup that had once held coffee.
"Sweetheart, what happened?" McCoy asked gently.
When Maggie tilted up her face to meet his eyes, his heart broke to see the tears streaming down her face. "I-I-I was bringing you something for....never mind, it's not important. I'll be right b-back to get something to clean this up," Maggie stammered. She slowly backed her way towards the door.
"Maggie, honey, wait a second. What's wrong? Why the tears, darlin'?" McCoy implored, trying to keep his tone neutral as he reached out for her.
Behind her, the door slid open and Maggie whispered, "I'm sorry, Leonard" before making a run for it.
"No! Maggie, wait! Please!" McCoy shouted as he ran after her.
Maggie continued running down the corridor until she came to one of the turbolifts. She punched the call button and prayed it would get here before Leonard caught up with her. It didn't matter the destination, as long as it took her away from here. Away from hearing Leonard declare his love for someone else.
McCoy saw Maggie turn the corner to where he knew there would be a turbolift. He had to get there before it did, otherwise he wouldn't know where to find her.
The doors opened and Maggie threw herself inside. She gave her destination as the "Observation Deck" and the doors started to close. The last thing she saw before they completely closed was the panic-stricken look on Leonard's face. She sank to the floor, put her head in her hands and cried as her heart shattered.
She took off her comm badge and placed it on a table on the Observation Deck. Although she was likely to face a lecture from the captain about doing that, she couldn't bring herself to care at the moment.
Maggie needed some time to figure out what to do next. This is just like Ryan, she thought. Kept me around until someone better came along. I'm only a placeholder. She got back in the turbolift and went to the only place she felt she could calm down, her lab. Science Lab #3.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
McCoy slowly made his way back to his office where Kirk was waiting. "What the hell just happened?" Kirk asked. Shortly after McCoy returned to the MedBay, Uhura and Spock came in asking the same thing.
"I have no idea. One minute Jim and I are talking about my feelings for Maggie. The next minute, she'd dropped the coffee mug and goes running out of here, crying," McCoy remarked, then a thought suddenly came to him. "Oh, god. Jim, I think she heard our conversation and thought....she thinks I'm in love with someone else," he whispered. "How could she think I'd want to be with anyone else but her?" he exclaimed.
"I think now might be a good time to tell you what she told me about Ryan," Uhura declared. All  three men looked at Uhura with expectant faces, silently urging her to continue. "Ryan was her ex, the one she had right before she came on board. They'd been a couple for a few months, then he started cancelling dates. She asked him about it, and he told her there was nothing to worry about. He'd always say that he was cancelling because of work, but that he still loved only her.
"Turns out, he was back together with his high school sweetheart the whole time. Maggie caught them together out to dinner one night. He didn't even try to hide it, made it seem like her fault that he cheated on her. Worst of all, the three of them worked together, which was extremely awkward for Maggie. She was lucky that a spot opened up on the Enterprise when it did," Uhura shook her head sadly.
McCoy sat on the edge of his chair, elbows resting on his knees and his hands covering the bottom half of his face. "Did you see her face when we came out of my office?" he whispered. "It looked like her heart was broken--no, not broken--shattered," McCoy added.
"Dr. McCoy, I'm not saying you're anything like her ex. I told you the story because she feels a little inferior to Dr. Richardson, and how much time she's spent with you. I know, I know, it was work time, but I hope you can see why Maggie might be a bit scared of it happening again," Lt. Uhura explained.
"I do understand, and I'm glad you told me. I have to find her. I need to tell her--" his reply was cut off by the sounds of alarms blaring. "What's going on?" he demanded.
"Dr. McCoy, you're needed urgently in the Science Labs, something about an accident," Nurse Chapel told him.
"Thank you, Christine, I'm on my way. Wait a minute, which Lab?" he asked.
"I believe they said Science Lab #3," she replied.
All of the color seemed to drain from McCoy's face. "That--that's Maggie's lab! Come on, we need to hurry!" he grabbed his medkit and started running down the hall to  the scene of the accident.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
One minute, Maggie was sitting at her desk in her lab, mindlessly going through paperwork. The next minute, she was knocked backwards out of her chair and had hit the wall with her head. She woke up laying on the floor with a splitting headache, dizziness and an aching left wrist. Her uniform was littered with pieces of glass, some of which were embedded in the exposed skin on her arms and neck.
The lab was quickly filling up with smoke, so she knew she had to find a way out and take as  many people with her as possible. "Is everyone okay? Who's hurt?" she called out before dissolving in a coughing fit.
Ensign Cooper answered back, saying he was okay, except for a minor burn on his arm. She told him that if he can walk, to find the exit and help anyone else along the way. Others in the lab sounded off, telling Maggie that everyone was mostly okay. She crawled around on the floor, trying to stay below the smoke level but not always finding clear air.
Maggie found Lieutenant Morris, who appeared to have the most injuries, since he was likely the closest to the explosion. He was unconscious at the moment, with burns to his forearms and torso. She tried to lift him, but with her left wrist either sprained or broken, she opted to try and drag him out. All along the way, she called out for help.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
By the time Dr. McCoy, Capt. Kirk, Spock and Uhura arrived, the lab was almost completely enveloped in smoke. Kirk pressed a button on the wall, which opened up the air ducts to try and vent the smoke.
Uhura found Maggie first, sitting on the floor next to Lt. Morris. "Dr. McCoy? Over here!" she called. "Just sit tight, honey, help is on the way. You've been busy this afternoon, haven't you? Crazy woman," she smiled, trying to keep Maggie calm.
"Maggie?!? Darlin', are you okay?!? Oh, you had me so worried, sweetheart!" McCoy remarked, unshed tears shining in his eyes. He laid a hand to her cheek and she leaned into his touch. "I'm going to take care of the lieutenant here, but I promise I'll come right back to you, okay?" he asked. Maggie nodded her head slowly as he began to examine Lt. Morris' injuries.
After he'd made his assessment of Lt. Morris and had him shipped off to the MedBay, he turned his attention to Maggie. She had slumped over on her side, and her eyes had drifted shut. "Oh, no you don't. Come on, darlin', you gotta wake up for me. Please," he begged.
Maggie's eyelids fluttered open again to reveal a very concerned CMO standing over her. She gave him a small smile and reached up with her right hand and caressed his cheek. "Leonard," she whispered. "I'm so sorry," she rasped as she began coughing. "I need you to know something, love," she began but McCoy cut her off.
"No, nope, not happenin'. You're not givin' me some goodbye speech, and do you know why? Because you're strong, darlin'. That's how I know you're gonna be all right," he told her as a stretcher was brought in to take her to the MedBay.
Leonard took hold of Maggie's hand, kissed the back of it and then held it to his chest. "I'll be there when you wake up, okay?" he affirmed. She nodded then was whisked away to where Dr. M'Benga was waiting in the MedBay.
McCoy knew he was more useful staying behind and tending to any other potential patients. His emotions over Maggie could get in the way, so he trusted Dr. M'Benga with her care. Then, he did the only thing he could do at the moment. He turned around and started assessing the lab crew until he had tended to everyone's injuries.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Her hand felt warm, and she was having a hard time moving her arm. When she looked down at her side, she smiled, because she could see the reason. There was a mop of dark brown hair resting on her arm, gently snoring away. Maggie didn't want to wake him, but figured she'd been out long enough that someone should know she was awake.
"Leonard," she tried. "Len, honey, wake up," she tried again, this time wiggling her arm. The motion of her arm was enough to finally jostle him awake. His head snapped up and his eyes immediately locked on to Maggie's face to see her smiling at him.
"Maggie....oh, darlin' it's so good to see you awake. I was starting to get a little worried after awhile, though. Do you remember anything about what happened in the lab?" he asked.
"I remember sitting at my desk, shuffling some papers, then being thrown against the wall. I woke up on the floor, dizzy, headache and my wrist hurt," Maggie replied. She held up her left wrist to see that it was wrapped in a brace. "I called out to see if everyone was okay, then I saw Lt. Morris, who looked to be the more seriously injured. I knew we had to get out of the smoke, so I started dragging him to the door, and that's when you  found us."
"When Lt. Uhura found you....I was just so happy to see that you were mostly okay. Maybe a little banged up, but I knew we could patch you up, good as new," he winked. "You were pretty upset earlier, though. Mind telling me what was going on in that pretty head of yours?" McCoy asked gently.
"I feel so stupid about it now, Len," Maggie said, dropping her gaze to her hands in her lap. "I heard you and Jim talking in your office. I guess I just assumed you were talking about me when you said 'she' was knowledgeable but talked  too much. Then you said after spending such a short time of knowing 'her' and spending all this time with 'her' that you love 'her'. I guess I thought you were talking about Dr. Richardson," Maggie explained.
"And why would you think that?" McCoy inquired.
Maggie rolled her eyes. "Come on, Leonard. Look at her, then look at me. She's clearly the more attractive of the two of us. You have more in common with her, both being in the medical field, you speak the same language. And I know it was work stuff, but I got....jealous of the time she got to spend with you that I didn't," her voice dropped on the last word.
McCoy moved to sit on the edge of the biobed, directly facing Maggie. "First of all, I'm not attracted to Dr. Richardson, academically or otherwise. She's the one who doesn't know when to stop talking. Second, I like that you and I have different jobs on this tin can of a ship. Makes our conversations interesting," he grinned.
"Can't argue with that," Maggie chuckled.
"And last but certainly not least, Dr. Richardson is not the woman I'm in love with. She's not the one who holds my heart," McCoy remarked softly, tucking a strand of hair behind Maggie's ear.
"Oh. I see. Well, whoever 'she' is, she's got the best of the best. She's certainly a lucky woman," Maggie whispered.
"Yes, darlin'. Yes, you are," McCoy replied.
A dawn of understanding slowly spread across Maggie's face. "Well, since I hold your heart, then I should tell you that you've had mine for awhile now," she mentioned.
"I'll be sure and take real good care of it, sugar. I love you," McCoy declared.
"I love you too, Len," Maggie replied, leaning forward until her lips met his to seal their love with a kiss.
Part 3 here!

Dinner Date? (AOS Spock x Reader)
Tumblr media
A/N: I think this may just be a part one, I do want to continue the story but I was more eager to see if people were interested first. Also this is meant to be read with either a female, male, or non-binary reader! I have been wanting to do a Spock x Reader for awhile now, this is my first time writing one! Enjoy!
Summary: After being hospitalized (and passing out) in Sickbay from a dumb choice you made while on mission, you are surprised to find that Commander Spock had stayed by your side while you slept.
Word Count: 3,338
Warning: Swearing and a sarcastic Bones and cute moments
---
“Shit. Shit. Holy- FUCK!” Was all you could manage to say as a sharp pain twisted into your side. You were currently in Sickbay after having collapsed on the floor just outside of the bridge, nearby crewmen immediately rushed you to a not-so-happy Dr. McCoy.
“Damn it, man, I told you not to eat that planet’s weird berries!” McCoy said in a frustrated tone as he pulled out his scanner. “It’s only been what- two hours? And you are already showing symptoms of infection in your abdominal region that would usually take years to develop!”
“How can you be so sure…” You breathed, gripping at your stomach which started to cramp. “...that it was the berries?”
“Mm, I dunno (Y/N), maybe because of the fact that Jim and I had no berries whatsoever and we seem to be doing perfectly fine. It’s no coincidence, damn it!”
Nausea passed over your body in massive waves, you applied pressure via your fingertips between the two tendons on your wrist in an attempt to get the feeling to cease. You remembered seeing this technique in an article somewhere, but you were pretty sure that the article didn’t take into account your situation. “Well the natives said... that eating the berries was a sign of a... good spirit… a way to connect with them. It’s called respecting...tradition. Something you and the Captain… refused to do.” The fact that it was taking so much energy to construct sentences both amazed and horrified you.
“Maybe those berries weren’t meant for humans.” McCoy grunted, walking out your line of sight. “Just because you're some diplomat representing all of Starfleet doesn’t mean you have to go around eating weird foods for the sake of tradition.”
“Bones,” You declared. “I could really do without the lecture right now.” You only felt worse the longer you laid there, your forehead broke out into a sweat and your face grew hot. You pictured McCoy getting his instruments together from the sound of metal clinking against metal, at least that is what you hoped he was doing.
“Alright! Alright, hold on…” He said, fumbling with what sounded like a plastic bag. “Damn... what would that green-blooded hobgoblin think of this?”
“You mean Commander Spock?” You asked, even though you understood what he meant. “What does he have to do with-” a sharp sting entered the side of your arm as your asshole-of-a-friend, and trusted doctor, injected you with a large syringe. “-Oh, what the hell was that?!”
“That-” McCoy said, holding up the syringe defiantly, “-just saved your life. Well, maybe. Give it an hour or two, your fever should already be going down. The pain will subside in no time.”
“Jesus, Bones, you could have at least warned me before stabbing my arm!"
“Well it’s not supposed to hurt so much without a warning.” You heard him say, but you were more focused on the white walls within the Sickbay, which were beginning to blur into everything else until it became one muddy display. It made your eyelids feel heavy.
“Everything is so abstract looking…” You said half-consciously, watching as different colors danced in front of your vision.
“Well I’m no Picasso, much less a painter,” You heard him say, or maybe you just imagined it. It didn’t matter though, seeing as all the sounds and sights were becoming one big jumble. It didn’t stay this way for long before everything went completely black.
You have been abroad upon the Enterprise for almost a year now, part of its five-year intergalactic planetary voyage. As a Starfleet diplomat, you were stationed on the bridge and tasked with regulating Starfleet protocol and managing peace-treaties and negotiations. Through this job, you befriended many on the Enterprise, especially those stationed on the bridge with you. You were quick to become friends with the notorious (or so he thought) Captain Kirk, as well as others like Lieutenant Uhura and the pilots, Mr. Sulu and Chekhov. There were even people beyond the bridge like Mr. Scotty down in Engineering who you managed to get well acquainted with. You were simply amazed by all these different and infatuating personalities you had come to know, but there was one person- or rather, an alien- who you had come to admire the most aboard your time here.
Commander Spock.
You were only to report on the bridge three days out of the week, the rest of your time was spent helping to ease the tension between antsy crewmen who were getting themselves into disputes and fistfights (even though it was not in your pay grade, and was sure as hell not part of your job description either) and even assisting the Chief Officers in preparation for meetings in the department they resided over (which was part of your pay grade).
It was a small attraction… at first.
The Enterprise was only four months into its five-year voyage whenever the Captain tasked you to assist in preparing and partaking in an introductory meeting (really it was more of a banquet) for the Science Department. The last two months had already taken up your time with meetings (*banquets) in other departments: speaking on behalf of Starfleet, introducing yourself to the staff and crew, helping them adjust to life aboard a starship, answering to millions upon millions questions and concerns. Today would be no different, or so you thought.
You entered the science lab with a clipboard full of notes you were preparing to say in your speech. Contrary to others’ belief, you never used the same speech twice, you took too much pride in your work to do so- except for those few rush jobs where the only thing you managed to have on hand was a speech about how cute yet terrifying Tribbles were. The memory of all those confused faces in the crowd during a Starfleet conference still haunted you to this day. The Admiral was to say, in the very least, displeased.
Awaiting by a table of fliers was the Enterprise’s chief science officer. His back had been turned to you when you entered the lab, and he was still unaware of your presence as you drew closer to him.
“Commander.” you greeted, yet received no reply. That was odd, with you being the only other person in the laboratory besides him, he had to have heard you. Maybe you just weren’t being loud enough. Determined, you took another step closer. “Commander!”
Still, no reply. By now you managed to get close enough to see his face, and you were rather more perplexed to see that his eyes were closed. Odd. You weren’t well educated enough about Vulcans to know if this was some ritualistic standing sleep-like state they put themselves in, but it reminded you of a similar nature that some of the Terran animals back home displayed.
“Just like a horse…” You murmured, before slowly reaching up to touch the Vulcan’s face. You hadn’t realized how close you had gotten to him. He stood there perfectly, his face was so mellow, so clear of emotion, he almost looked like some sort of statue…
A hand caught your wrist before a finger could even graze his cheek, a shock ran through your body, it scared the shit out of you. “What is like a horse?” Commander Spock asked, staring down at you with his full, dark eyes.
You quickly (and embarrassingly) pulled your hand away from his grip, holding it protectively close over your hammering heart. “C-Commander Spock, I-I thought you were asleep!”
“I was not sleeping.” He responded in a calm tone. He straightened his posture and placed his hands behind his back.  “I was meditating.”
“Nervous?” You asked half-jokingly. “The whole department is going to be here tonight, things can go wrong, but it will be alright.” It was apparent you were saying this more for your own benefit rather than his.
“I find it illogical to be nervous.”
“And why is that?”
“Based on what I could gather from your involvement in past assignments, Lieutenant. I trust you are more than qualified to execute this meeting successfully.” He replied with a small smile.
You felt your heart swell at the praise, and you smiled right back.
After that day, you and Commander Spock maintained a mutual friendship: greeting one another with a nod or smile as you passed by in the hallways or having small (but quite educational on your part) talks while riding the lift, it never went beyond that, but you didn’t mind. You felt like your growing attraction for him had to be limited in some way, seeing as his thoughts on you are nothing but platonic.
...Lieutenant?
Lieutenant (L/N)? Can you hear me?
You felt a rough shake of your shoulders, pulling you straight out of the darkness in a start.
“Doctor, I believe that was an unnecessary course of action. The Lieutenant was already waking up.” A familiar voice said.
“You’re overreacting, Spock. (Y/N) needed a jumpstart.” Another voice responded.
You looked around the room quickly, watching as the blurred figures started to take appropriate shape and form. It was Dr. McCoy and Commander Spock, both peering down at you. Immediately, McCoy started to check your vitals asking you clipboard questions like: How are you feeling? Is there any pain when I do this? Commander Spock on the other hand stood idly by with his hands behind his back, his face could be read as stoic if it weren’t for the fact that his eyebrows were furrowed. It actually surprised you to see him here, but you had a feeling that it had to do with the details of your mission.
"Oh man…" you grunted as you sat up slowly. "How long was I out for?"
"Approximately for five hours and twenty-one minutes." Spock responded.
"Yeah, because (Y/N) was so worried about the exact number of minutes they missed." McCoy said with a loose smile, despite the gruff tone in his voice.
"I may not be well acquainted in human social cues, Doctor-" Spock said, turning his gaze on McCoy, "-But I believe you are using sarcasm. In your case, this would not be uncommon."
"Well good job, Sherlock. Seems you cracked the case!" McCoy said with false praise.
Spock went to open his mouth, you could tell he wanted clarification by the way his gaze narrowed, but instead, he diverted his attention back onto you. "How are you feeling, Lieutenant?"
It was a question that surprised both you and the doctor (or maybe he always looked that confused). “I feel fine-” You said abruptly, “Well, at least I think I do. Am I, Bones?” You nervously looked over to your friend.
“Yeah, you’re fine.” McCoy responded, waving his hand casually. “All we had to do was pump your system full of antibodies and just like that, infection was gone. Thank God we aren’t living in the Dark Ages.”
The Commander approached your bedside. “It seems the berries initiated a rapid case of abdominal infection known to your species as colonic diverticulitis. It’s quickening effects seem to have caused a trauma in your nerves, specifically your sensory nerves, leading them to send incorrect signals. Which explains your disassociation with reality.”
“Alright, Mr. Know-it-all, I’m the doctor here.” McCoy said with a grumble, before addressing you. “It just means those berries infected your bowels and started blending your five senses together like one big smoothie.”
“That is rather an inaccurate description, but yes, the Doctor is somewhat correct.” A slight grimace was in Spock’s voice, causing you to smile. The two always had differentiating opinions. Watching them react to one another like highly-active mind fields was quite entertaining.
McCoy only shook his head in irritation, “Which means, (Y/N), no more eating any foreign soul-binding berries, you hear? I mean it.” He was now targeting you, which was not so entertaining.
“Okay. Okay.” You held up your hands in defeat. “I solemnly promise to never eat any foreign soul-binding berries, again.”
“Yeah, well let’s see how long that promise lasts.” He crossed his arms, before a faint smirk appeared on his face. “You know Pointy-Ears here-” he said gesturing to the Commander. “-was worried sick about you. Got here as soon as you passed out, didn’t even leave your side when writing his report to command.”
You felt your face grow hot at the news. He waited here for you? He wasn’t in the landing party with you when you beamed down onto that planet… you didn’t know how to take this news. But knowing you, you must have been overthinking it, he was just being friendly after all. Still, you had to force yourself not to cover your face in shame as you knew it was red with embarrassment. You didn’t want your friend (and doctor) or the Vulcan you had come to like so much see your flustered expression.
“I was merely concerned with the Lieutenant’s well-being, as (L/N)’s superior, I saw it only fitting to stay by their side until they got better.” You heard him say.
When you felt confident enough to look up from your bed sheets you were surprised to see Spock staring straight at you.
“Uh huh…and I’m the king of Mars.” McCoy sarcastically said with a taunting smile that you wish you could smack off his face. He probably didn’t even know what he was embarrassing you by doing this.
“Doctor, the United Martian Colonies is governed by a uniglobal government, it does not have an establish monarchy-”
“How about I get a drink, and you finish that thought later. Alright, Spock?” Bones interjected with eagerness. “(Y/N), you’re free to leave whenever. From your head to your toes, you are medically sound.”
“Thanks to you, Bones.” You replied.
“Please, it’s only my life’s work.” He said, waving his PADD up in the air knowingly. “And if you need me, which you better not, I’ll be in the bar- drinking the day away.” With that, he disappeared out the door.
You turned your attention over to Spock, who had his gaze on the door. You decided it would be best to head out as well, seeing as you couldn’t control your heartbeat, you were sure you looked like a tomato with how frequently your face was turning red. "Well I guess I’m free to leave since my doctor suggested so." You say in a means of farewell.
The bed's mattress shifted under your weight as you slowly began to peel yourself off from it, it took awhile, seeing as the way you had been laying on it for the past five hours made you stiff,
"I have to agree with the Doctor's earlier statement." Spock said, grabbing your attention. "Your actions were reckless and could have been fatal if it were not for him."
"Understood, Commander.” You responded formally as you pulled on your yellow blazer over your tank top. You felt somewhat dejected, but shook that feeling away. He was concerned because he was your commanding officer. That gesture alone should have been satisfying enough.
“I typed up a mission report and sent it to Command, they requested that you send in a report as well.”
“Thank you, Commander.” You replied, grabbing your Command insignia off of the end table before reattaching it to your uniform. “Have the natives of the planet decided whether or not to join the Federation?”
“I’m afraid I do not know. I was... preoccupied at the time.”
He must have been talking about the report. Thinking about it now, it would be best to complete yours now while it was still fresh on your mind. It was only fair to your Commander that you got it done as soon as possible.
“Well I better head-” You started.
“Lieutenant, I was wondering-” Spock also initiated taking another step forward.
The sound of the entry door sliding open stopped you both, it was Captain Kirk.
“I heard what had happened and the natives promised-” Kirk announced as he casually walked into Sickbay. “-they did not know it was potentially fatal to us and assured- am I interrupting something here?” His nonchalant attitude formed into a more devious one as he looked between the two of you.
“Uh, no, you aren’t.” You said quickly. “What did they say?”
Kirk smirked, briefly shrugging his shoulders, before continuing on. “Well everything is all good now. Just about an hour after you were admitted into Sickbay, the natives agreed to join the Federation. Took awhile for them to decide. They sent gifts of apology to you, I had them sent to your room. Of course, if I had known that I would be receiving gifts, I would have eaten some berries too.” He said with a chuckle.
“Captain, that would be highly illogical seeing as the same berries led to the incapacitation of Lieutenant (L/N).” Spock noted matter-of-factly, making you smile a bit. It was well-known that as a Vulcan, his mind-set followed logic to its core, however you couldn’t help but interpret his words as being thoughtful. Or maybe, you were just projecting that into his words.
“And that is why I am in debt to our wonderful Lieutenant, here.” Kirk said with a dramatic bow. “Without (Y/N), the Federation would not have gained a whole planet as its ally today.” You couldn’t help but laugh as you watched your Captain move across the room like some Shakespearean actor (like running on his tippy-toes and bowing), you decided to play along and twirl dramatically over to him before kissing him on the cheek as though his words just meant the world to you. The scene itself caused an eyebrow-raised look from a clearly confused Spock, the expression alone made you two laugh.
“Am I missing something here?” Spock asked, looking between the two of you.
“Nope.” Kirk responded, lazily putting his arm around the Vulcan’s shoulder, “But you know what you are missing? A nice, hot meal. After such a long day, you two deserve a treat. Go grab something in the mess hall together, Captain’s orders.” He finished with a smirk, making your stomach turn. Why would he say it like that? ...Did he know you liked the Commander? But that would be impossible! You never even mentioned to anyone how you felt about Spock… Were you that obvious?
Before you could open your mouth to say anything, you saw that your Captain was already leaving the room. He turned around briefly and gave two thumbs up and an encouraging nod in your direction, but to your surprise the gesture wasn’t aimed at you, but rather.... at the Commander.
You heard a throat clear beside you and turned to see that Spock was looking you in the eyes. Like, really looking at you.
“Lieutenant...” The way his voice wavered suggested… nervousness. He knitted his eyebrows together and his posture became much more stiff, confirming your suspicions. “...do I have your permission to address you by your first name?”
You felt your cheeks burn again at his request. “You do.” Immediately his body relaxed. “May I, in turn, address you as Spock?”
“Certainly, (Y/N).” He said smoothly, you could tell he was testing out your name. You liked it.
You felt a nervousness build up within you, unsure where this conversation was leading to until Spock spoke up again.
“I would like to request your presence tonight in the mess hall for social engagement and dinner.”
And with that your heart was blown ten thousand light-years away.
“You sure our lovely Captain didn’t bribe you to say that?” You asked half-jokingly, trying not to sound like you were just melted away.
“I do not need persuasion with money or gifts to spend an evening with you.”
How he could say such things without becoming a puddle of embarrassment amazed you. You felt giddy as a warm smile spread across your lips. “Then yes, I would love to have dinner with you.”
“I’ll come by your quarters at eight.” He stated, smiling down at you.
“I’ll be waiting.”

Suddenly he gets it, why Kirk was so damn intent on picking this kid and his mother up against all of those protests about the Prime Directive - why he still doesn't seem like he's in much of a hurry to drop them off. The Enterprise is no place to raise a child, but it's got to be a hell of a lot better than where they came from, and if he's comfortable here... well, McCoy can't find any reason to change that. They deserve the time to breathe, for god's sake. Or maybe just to live for the first time.
"It's alright," he informs him quietly, seeing him withdraw and visibly hesitate to continue. But he can't just not press the matter a little bit further, even if he feels a cold pit settle in his stomach, something that - were he younger, more inexperienced with crises, back in medical school - might wind up falling in-between dread and panic if he were to let it. He feels like a damn fool; he should have asked, but it hadn't seemed particularly abnormal on the scanners and there was so much else to take into consideration that surely it could wait until he cobbled together a medical record for the two of them, figuring out what sort of tech was in there. It wasn't harming them actively, and for the moment that was all that had mattered. They needed time to adjust before they were tossed into worrying about anything like that. It's the worst sort of balancing act, factoring in what a patient is capable of mentally - emotionally - discussing versus what you absolutely have to find out.
Tumblr media
"Well, Mister Ani, I've got some good news for you: nothing in the whole of the galaxy can blow up a person from this many lightyears away, no matter how bad they might try." Maybe McCoy's not the best candidate for reassurance, as shit as Jim always tells him his bedside manner is, but he can offer frank truths and sometimes that's just as helpful. "You've already run away, and," he produces his hand scanner from his pocket, makes a show of waving it around the kid, and then turns it around to read it with a frown. "Yep, I was right. Look at that, no countdown."
McCoy rises from his crouch, striding to his computer, already intent on pinging the captain to discuss this. He wonders if Kirk knew, if he actually had done something down there to get rid of the other end of whatever these devices are - not that it matters exactly, because he really is certain that they're too far away for it to do anything. But it might be an additional level of comfort for the boy in the meantime, more so because he seems to hang off of every single word Kirk says sometimes. He glances back at the kid, wonders if he's too young to hear the more serious medical side of all this, and then decides that if he's seen all this shit already he'd probably just find it condescending if McCoy withheld it from him. Christine will call him a callous bastard, but Anakin's got a bomb in his head, for crying out loud - McCoy's pretty damn sure he wants to skip the bullshit. Kid's too goddamn smart for it, anyway.
"But I'll bring your mother in here and take another look at her - and I'd like to talk to her about this. It's possible we could see about surgically removing it as soon as today," if her vitals are steady enough for it. She was relatively weakened upon being transported to the ship, but nothing outside of what McCoy might expect from someone in her circumstances. She'll have to be thoroughly consulted before considering it, but he's optimistic on that front, at least - the bigger problem is the matter of finding it, making sure it actually can be removed without doing additional damage, making sure it doesn't explode mid-surgery and get the whole of his team killed. He should ping Spock, too, now that he thinks about it. If anybody would have a foolproof idea of how to neutralize the danger entirely, it'd be him. "Yours, too. I'm sorry I didn't know about this earlier, Anakin, but we're going to fix it."
Tumblr media
Well, if he wasn't nervous enough before, seeing the man slowly rise from his desk and come towards him really just amps it up. He's grown considerably more still as he's approached, looking like a startled bantha ready to make a mad dash out of the room. He doesn't, although there is a noticeable flinch as the hand is raised. Thankfully it only rests on his shoulder, and his voice softens.
It's spoken with caution now, as if worried he'll say the wrong thing, but still willing to speak.
Tumblr media
"Me and my mom have them - it was to stop us from trying to run away. If we did, or if ma - or, um.. Watto got really upset with us, he could blow us up. I don't know if he got rid of his part of it when he let me go, or moms. I don't know where it is either."

Storm
Summery: feelings are brought to the surface when the malicious mirror verse version of Bones materializes on board the enterprise due to an Ion storm, and sets his eyes on the reader.
Pairings: Bones x reader, Uhaura x Spock, Jim x Jim.
You had been traveling from your quarters to report for dupty, when the enterprise had lurched, sending you hurtling into a wall. Your audible gasp was drowned out by the emergency sirens, bathing the blue metallic walls in red when they flashed. You grimaced, bracing your arm against the wall until the ship was righted, sprinting down the corridors until you skidded into the elevator, slamming the button to the bridge floor. Your breathing became louder as the doors slid shut, only hearing the dull echo of the sirens outside, before the doors opened again, throwing you back into the throng of chaos.
Ensigns rushed past, Jim standing at the center, shouting orders above the blaring noise as lights flashed.
The floor tremored under your feet as you spotted Nyota at her station.
"What's going on!" You shouted, clinging to the edge of her station. "Ion Storm!" She said, typing furiously on her keyboard. Your eyes searched the crew, heart pounding in your ears until they landed on Dr. Mccoy, on his knees helping an red shirt dress a wound in his leg. Your panic settled some.
The ship rocked again, sending you crashing to your knees. Uhaura's worried eyes flashed to you, but you waved her off. Caught spotted commander Spock sneaking a glance at Nyota as he stood next to kirk, advising him.
The ship lerched forward and you began to loose your footing as the ship tipped, "No!" Uhaura spun around in her chair, latching onto your hand, nose scrunching in concentration, the stitching on her shoulder belt began to rip as she struggled to keep hold of you, people slid past. Her jaw clenched "aaahhhhh!" She let out.
Something in the atmosphere shifted when the ship evened out with a groan, the alarm falling silent, aside from the sounds of the ship, red lights still flashing, creating an eerie feeling. Slowly murmurs filled the silence, The doctor and captain slowly making rounds to check the crew for injuries.
You looked at uhaura, hoping your eyes could convey your gratitude as Spock made his way closer. She unstrapped herself, standing as his eyes roamed her form, arms securely behind his back. "Lieutenant." He nodded. "You are unharmed?" A smile lifted the corners of her lips. "Yes, Spock I'm alright."
From behind Spock, in your peripheral you saw a blue shirt stretched over a wide chest. You lifted your eyes and met his. You involuntarily sucked in a breath; but before he could come any closer-
BOOM
Blinding, golden light exploded, only a few yards to your right. When the glow faded, a stunningly familiar pair of eyes found yours, and you froze in place. He heaved a breath, before demanding with a ragged voice. "Where the hell am I?"
Jim's eyes instantly shot to McCoy hoping for an awenser. "Bones?" Leonard shook his head, mesmerized. You carefully pulled out your phaser, aiming it towards the floor as you slowly approached.
"I am security officer Y/L/N of the USS Enterprise. Identify yourself." His gaze flashed to you, eyes roaming your body. A smirk pulled at his lips as he licked them. "Mmm, so this is the other you, eh? So... pristine." He chuckled.
You took a moment to study him, a pink puckered scar ran through his left eyebrow and just shy of the corner of his eye. His uniform was the same blue, and on the left side of his chest was a red pin, a sword pierced through a red sphere. There were several other pins you couldn't identify. Waist down his uniform was splattered with blood, even coated in his fingernails. Even if he wasn't soaked in blood, the hunger in his eyes made the hair on the back of your neck stand on end.
You raised your phaser to aim at his chest, commanding in a hardened voice "identify. yourself. now." It was deadly silent as his eyes roamed the crews faces. His eyes drifted back to you.
He hummed, taking a step towards you. Leonard emerged from the crowd, quickly standing beside you. He kept coming until your phaser was pressed against the plains of his chest. You gulp, keeping your grip steady. Logically, you knew it wasn't him, well, the him you trusted, he was standing beside you. But you couldn't help the twinge of panic at the thought of pulling the trigger.
In a flash his hands snatched the phaser from your hands, the panic clouding your judgement and the sweat clicking your hands failing to keep hold. A cry left Leonard's lips as the double yanked you forward, you stumbled and he gripped your face, spinning your body around and pressing the phaser against your temple. Your hands automatically went to the hand that was holding a bruising grip on your jaw, the side of his hand jamming into your airway. He turned his face and took a whiff of your hair.
You cringed, automatically trying to turn your head, but failing. "Let her go!" Jim demanded in a deadly voice youd never heard him use before, stepping forward. His eyes were hard, furious. You were his friend.
"You've made your point; let her go so we can negotiate." "Hmm." He hummed in a mocking tone. You could almost feel him smirking. "No. I think I'm going to have some fun with this one."
As they had been talking your hand had slowly drifted up your skirt, to the hidden set of knives on your thigh. Without any sudden movements your flipped it around in your fingers. Thankfully everyone knew better than to give you away, or they hadent noticed, keeping their eyes on him and the phaser agains your head. You slowly lifted the knife, and slammed it down into his thigh.
Blood gushed from the wound, spraying your fingers as he howled. You twisted around, snatching it back from his hand as he fell to his knees. He spit at your feet, which you smoothly sidestepped. He propped himself up on one hand, his other going to the gushing wound on his thigh. "What are my orders captain?" Your voice came out steadier than you expected, the crew had gone silent first in horror, then in awe.
His chest heaved, "Lock him up." He growled, two red shirts coming and placing him in cuffs as you watched. As he was led away and shoved into the elevator, he gave you one last smirk that made your skin crawl, it felt like there were bugs scuttling across your skin.
You look back to your captain, finally starting to shake. His eyes softened as you sank to the bridge floor. "Bones." Jim said, not taking his gaze off of you. "Check her over. We don't know what he brought over with him." Your eyes are glazed over, staring at the floor, but you can see Leonard nodding mutely from the corner of your eye.
A pair of feet slowly approach as he crouched in front of you, soothingly warm hands curling around your arms, gently pulling you to stand.
You both silently stepped into the elevator, you stared into space until he turned, hands going to your arms again, this time in attempt to comfort. You both stared into Each others eyes and your heart slowed, along with time. As you stared into his eyes, you realise for the first time just how much brown was in them, and how much you liked it.
The elevator doors slide open, and the moment is broken. He smoothly let's go of your arms and trades it for threading his fingers through yours, and pulling you into the med bay.
During every scan and test he can think of, you let your mind go numb again, thoughtlessly following his soft directions whenever you needed to.
You both stay in stewing silence for a while, before he cleared his throat softly. "I'm so sorry that happened Y/N. I would never want to hurt you, i-" he shook his head. "I can't even think about it." You looked at the ground before forcing your eyes back up to his face, remorse in his eyes. "No." The word flew from your mouth. "I know you wouldn't. I've always felt safe with you. Even when we were strangers." You took a steadying breath and sat up straighter, reaching up to pull down his face. His eyes flashed with surprise, then they softened, his lips falling open.
He sighed sweetly, and you opened your eyes, meeting his. You both grinned.
You placed your fingers on both sides of his jaw, your eyes fluttering closed as you pressed your lips to his. He tenses in surprise for a moment before relaxing into the kiss. When you part, neither of you open your eyes.
His face slips from your hands, your fingers hovering in place, eyes still shut, tingling warmth on your lips. Neither of you opened your eyes for a moment, basking in the feeling of the others lips. The feeling of finally hovering in the air.
A knock echoed through the room, and he scowled, going to go awenser it. You chuckled, watching him go.
Nyotas appeared, worry lines marring her face. Her fingers fiddled together as she asks "how is she?" Leonard opens his mouth to awenser but you cut in "I'm fine, Nyota." Her eyes widen and she looks over his shoulder and skirts around him to tackle you in a hug. You wind your arms around her neck. She shakes her head as she leans into you. "That scared me so bad when he grabbed you." She untangled herself from your grip, looking you over herself. "I'm fine." You repeated, before the clones face popped back into your mind. You gulp, looking at her seriously. "Where is he? Is he still on the ship?" She nods. "Personally, I vote for launching him out of the airlock. Jim shut me down, but I could tell he was considering it himself."
You looked away from them. "We have to find a way to send him back." She agreed. "Scotty is trying to figure out the math. He says it'll just be a few hours."
You took a deep breath "I want to see him."
"No!" They said Simultaneously. You huffed slightly. "We need to know more, and he seemed to recognise me. Mabry I can get information from him." Leonard narrowed his eyes, but Uhaura pursed her lips in thought. "Thats... not a bad idea." Her eyes shot to Leonard. He shook his head at both of you. "No. No. No. Your not going." He said crossing his arms. It reminded you of a picture he had of Joanna giving that exact look when she was three.
"Yes. I am." You said gently, standing from the bed and going to cup his cheek. "And it will be fine. He'll be behind glass, and you'll be beside me." His eyes wavered for a long moment before he sighed, giving in.
When you arrived you were greeted with the sight of the clone incased in the same glass prison that Kahn had been in. Spock and Jim stood a dozen feet away, heads bowed in discussion with hushed voices. Spock stood with his hands behind his back, Jims fist was smashed into his mouth. When the doors slid apart, announcing your arrival they both glanced up. Spock bowed his head towards you, and kirk nodded at you and then Nyota and Leonard.
Nyota went to stand beside Spock "have you found out anything yet?"
"Nothing." Jim says. "He won't even talk to me." You nodded, eyes flicking to the clone, who met your gaze head on. You looked back to your captain "Let me try. He seems to have a.... firmiliarity with me." He bites his lip, considering. "Alright. Give it a shot."
You stood up straighter, bringing your shoulders back as you marched toward him, only stopping when glass stood only a few inches away. You could feel Leonard behind you, and could almost picture the scowl he was surely radiating at his other self.
"Identify yourself."
He smiled. "Dr. Leonard Haratio McCoy of the ESS Enterprise." "Alright. How do you know me. Who am I in your universe?" "A traitor to the Empire. An agent of the rebellion called the United federation of planets." He spit. "And I executed you."
Your heart thunded unevenly. "You did?"
"Yes. After a throurough interrogation." He grinned, tilting his head. "I enjoyed making you scream."
"Your enjoying this, aren't you?" You ask, knowing he was. "Just a bit." His gaze drifted over your body, and you felt Bones' hand settle on your back, and goosebunos rose on your body. You weren't sure which Leonard had caused it.
"I remember every second of taking you apart. Unraveling you." He murmurs, and you realise his eyes have a tad more copper in them than bones does, it makes the glint in his eyes more animalistic.
He doors hiss open and you look over your shoulder to see Scotty jogging in. "I've got everything under control sir."
Leonard's hand takes your and he murmurs "let's go." Before pulling you away, but you couldn't help one last look at the double, as his eyes followed you out of the room.
"Are ye ok lassie? I heard what happened" Scotty said, following you both out of the room. "Yes, Scotty thank you." You say, squeezing Leonard's hand. "C'mon then." Scotty says "let's go say goodbye to yer friend." He says.
They had build a singular tube, set up on a platform, it reminded you of the energizing pad in the bridge, with tiny tubes inside containing the same red dancing Ions from the storm ready to be released. You watched from another room behind a one way mirror, Leonard stood behind you, hands rubbing up and down your arms as the double was marched up into the tube, the door closing behind him. The ions were released and swarmed him, but just for a split second, his eyes stared into yours and you cringed.
Then he was gone.
You turned into Leonard's chest, balling up the back of his shirt in your hands. "'S okay. It's over." You nodded silently before picking your head up and asking "can we go back to my room? I don't want to sleep without you."

Dark Past (Part 1)
Tumblr media
Summary: Black shirts are supposed to be the most trained and deadly members of the Starfleet. However, they are considered just stories or legends, because no one has ever saw one before. But after John Harrison attacks the London’s Archive, the Enterprise may acquire a new crew member.
Part 2
Pairing: ?
Word Count: 2k
Warning: Fighting (?)
A/N: Hi everyone! It was a long time since I wrote for Star Trek and I thought this was the time for another story. The pairing is voluntarily mysterious, if you want to guess who will be, send me a message or comment!  Hope you will like it, feedback is always appreciated. Love you all xoxo
The only one or the last one? Everyone who ever looked at you wondered about that every time, whether it was out loud or in their mind, and even he didn’t want to admit it, Kirk did ask to himself the same thing. I mean, seeing a black shirt was rather rare in the Starfleet, many of the crew members around the ships always thought about them as legends or as made up stories used to intimidate the enemies. As the Captain thought, they were probably rumors, just some odd, silly stories told by students in the Academia. Turned out, it was totally untrue.
When Admiral Pike convened all the Captains in order to decide what to do about John Harrison, Kirk couldn’t help but find in Pike’s expression a slight hint of concern: John Harrison was probably more than just a terrorist, what was his real purpose?
Admiral Marcus entered the meeting room “Be seated”
“By now some of you know what happened in London. The target was a Starfleet data archive. Now it’s a damned hole in the ground, 42 men and women are dead”
Silence filled the room.
“One hour ago, I received a message from a Starfleet officer, who confessed to carrying out this attack, that he was being forced to do it by this man, Commander John Harrison. He’s one of our own. And he is the man responsible for this act of savagery.”
“A single man against all Starfleet?”
“That’s what it seems” Marcus responded simply.
“I think we must introduce the black shirt”
After Admiral Pike had spoken everyone in the room started murmuring to each others both in surprise and amusement.
Marcus looked down at the table, hesitant “Are you sure about this?” he asked at Pike.
“Sir, what are you talking about? I thought that black shirts were just a story” a rather young captain said suddenly.
Marcus sighed and looked even more serious “Those stories are true” he said.
Kirk shared a confused look with Spock, who was on the opposite side of the table.
“But we have no time for a campfire story now. Kirk” he glared at him, making the captain’s eyes dart to him “the black shirt will go with you and your crew on the Enterprise, you will track him down and kill him.”
The Enterprise was his again. But something in all the situation just didn’t sound right. An archive? Why bombing an archive? What was his real purpose?
Soon after, Marcus invited him to talk about the matter, seeing him and Pike murmuring frantically.
What happened next was completely unexpected. As soon as Jim explained his concerns about the matter, the room shined in a deep red light as John Harrison appeared in a jumpship and attacked Starfleet Headquarters. It was a bloodshed. Many members of the Senior Council died along with Admiral Pike.
Kirk almost couldn’t believe it when he saw Pike’s limp body on the couch.
After that night Kirk was wracked, emotionally and physically. He knew he had to regain his composure, for him, for his crew, and for Pike: he had to complete the mission.
Admiral Alexander Marcus reinstated Kirk and Spock to Enterprise with orders to kill Harrison using a new long range stealth photon torpedo.
“Jim, I know you are here c’mon!” Kirk heard a far-to-well known voice coming from outside his cabin.
“Bones I told you already, I’m fine!” he said opening the door and quickly heading to the shuttle. The doctor was right after him with medical equipment steady in his hand ready to check on Jim.
“The hell you are” he said but the Captain could see his concern behind the snarky response.
With a heavy sigh he gave his friend a small smile “I’m fine”
Bones didn’t insist this time.
“Everything is ready Spock?”
“Yes Captain, we are ready to reach the Enterprise”
Suddenly a sound of quick footsteps echoed in the hangar as everyone’s attention was brought to Scotty. “Jim a black shirt? Aboard? I heard the others talking about it but I wanted to hear it from you sir” Spock and Kirk shared a look.
“It’s true” Jim said with a small smile. He wasn’t sure what to say, because the pieces of information he had were quite limited, even if he was the captain.
“Well, that’s a surprise” responded Bones folding his arms. The doctor was really curious and even if he would never admit it, he was rather excited. He wasn’t the only one: by the time they were talking, a small group of crew members formed around the Captain, probably out of curiosity. Word travels fast.
“We will all talk about the mission and the new uhm, member of the crew on the Enterprise, for now let’s just get there and gather everything we need”
With a shared sigh of delusion all the crew members who gathered around the captain quickly went to take their seats on the shuttle.
The Enterprise was ready to fly, all the check ups were done. Bones was gathering medical supplies in his studio when the sound of Jim’s voice echoed through the ship’s speakers. A meeting. And everyone knew what was the matter.
“C’mon let’s go and see this mythical creature” he said.
The CMO reached the bridge after few minutes and walked up to Jim and Spock who were talking to Sulu. Jim looked a lot better than few hours ago, as Spock kept his usual quite demeanor, with his hands behind his straight back, but Sulu was hiding a small smile, probably out of excitement.
“So? Where is the legendary black shirt?” the doctor said sarcastically.
“Trust me Bones, I was surprised too”
Sulu nodded “I think we all are, sir”
Suddenly the elevator’s doors opened to reveal a figure who steadily entered the bridge. The room went silent, all the chattering muted almost instantly as if their breaths were caught in their throats.
Adjusting the fabric of your uniform, you entered in the elevator and pushed the button. Your hands went behind your back as you used to do when meeting the Captain or the person in charge. Your eyes closed as you moved your shoulder softly inward and outward a few times, trying to relieve some of the nervousness. The elevator took just few seconds to reach the bridge but they were enough for your mind to drift away. So much time had passed since you joined a normal ship, with normal crew members, but it was quite refreshing you had to admit it. You opened your eyes again and saw your reflection on the glass doors of the elevator. The black fabric of your suit still fitted perfectly, even if you probably didn’t want it to be. This mission was very important and you had to handle it in the best way you could, as a black shirt should do.
With a soft sound the elevator reached its destination and you entered the bridge, feeling all the crew’s eyes on you. Even if you were aware of the fact that black shirts were considered nothing more than stories and jokes, that was probably why everyone’s mouth went shout the moment you entered.
Walking steadily with you arms still behind your back and a severe but calm expression, you approached the captain, who was now watching you attentively as you could attack someone at any moment. The men close to them looked the same way, only the Vulcanian First Officer remained calm, even if you noticed the slight movement of his weird-shaped eyebrow going up in slight surprise.
“Captain Kirk” you said, standing right in front of him “I’m the black shirt assigned to your mission, I’m really glad to be part of the Enterprise’s crew. My name is Y/n”
He looked at you hesitantly “We are happy to have you here, welcome to the crew Y/n” he then said with a small smile.
“Let me introduce you our First Officer, Spock”
“Welcome aboard Lieutenant” he respectfully said with a smile.
“Lieutenant Hikaru Sulu, the Chief Medical Officer, Doctor McCoy with his ‘legendary hands’”
The doctor turned his face towards Kirk and muttered “Unbelievable”
“and Lieutenant Uhura”
You listened carefully and shook their hands, but all the time you felt two pair of eyes  on you, which you didn’t mind it at all. But now you had a mission, you had to keep yourself focused.
“So you exist” a male voice with a thick Russian accent caught your ears. The yellow shirt was a very young man who was looking at you in awe.
“Well,” you started, but Kirk quickly replied.
“I must say, as Mr Chekov has already introduced, that is very surprising, for all of us, to see a black shirt around”
“I understand that, we’re not so popular around”
Everyone had to admit it, your presence was quite intimidating, maybe for the deep color of your suit, but instead your voice was so calm and gentle, and at the same time steady and strong. They all probably expected a massive muscular mountain-looking man with a neutral face probably drooling in rage. Instead here you were, with the calmest voice in the universe and a killer look that rose in your face every time your smile faded. If possible, everyone was even more intrigued and they were all waiting to see you in action.
“Definitely not enough” Mr Chekov said with a small smile on his face.
“Mr Chekov, I think you should get back to the warp core”
“U- yes sir” he said before sprinting out.
You couldn’t hold back a small laugh.
“Well, Y/n, let me explain the mission”
Apparently John Harrison was now on Kronos. Perfect. Klingons. you thought. It didn’t matter what creature you would face, your had to complete this mission. You began gathering all thing you needed, eyes darting around your supplies with determination. When you were finally ready you headed towards the bridge.
Walking around the corridors was amusing: everyone looked at you like they saw a dragon let loose, but you were far too used to it. A long time ago this was normality...
Ten minutes had passed since the ship entered the planet’s atmosphere and even if the area was supposed to be uninhabited, a Klingon ship suddenly appeared in the sky. The captain had tried few quick maneuvers to avoid them but ultimately you found yourselves surrounded and forced to land.
Lieutenant Uhura offered herself to go out and try to talk to them, leaving you, Kirk, Spock and two others crew members aboard ready to take action.
“We should help her”
Spock looked at the captain “I would not recommend that”
Kirk sighed and then turned his head towards you “When was the last time you went on a mission Lieutenant?”
“Surprisingly not so much time ago Captain” you said as your eyes kept staring forward.
Some Klingon soldiers approached Uhura as she started talking to them in their language. Kirk’s hand tightened around the blaster.
Few seconds went by when suddenly the soldier talking to the lieutenant grabbed her neck ferociously, lifting her up.
“NOW” you shouted while exiting the ship as you started shooting at the Klingons. Uhura took advantage of the moment and stabbed the Klingon, who released the grip on her neck with a horrible scream.
Kirk and Spock, along with the others red shirts, followed you out the ship and started shooting too. The captain’s eyes searched for you in the battlefield but you were nowhere to be seen. Furrowing his eyebrows, he had no time to think about that and kept fighting.
All of a sudden, from an unknown position, someone started shooting at the Klingons.
“Where is Y/n? And who is it?” Kirk shouted while leaning on his back as Spock and Uhura approached him. That’s when he saw you, when they all saw you. With extreme agility you were fighting against the soldiers, swinging your legs and shooting, you never missed a shot. You were so skilled that all your movement almost seemed staged, as your eyes darted in every direction, fully focused. When all the Klingons around you were finally down, you looked up and saw a figure, your features darkened in rage. Kirk and the others looked up too and saw the mysterious figure pull off his mask to reveal John Harrison himself.
“John Harrison! You are-” Kirk started, but he couldn’t finish what he was saying because it all happened so fast.
Harrison jumped down from his high position without even flinching and started aiming his weapons, but, much to Kirk’s surprise, he was aiming them at you.
“You” he said in a deep and steady voice. He then dropped the blasters as you did.
Only few meters separated you both, as everything around you went silent for an instant: you stood steadily in front of him with an intense and undefined look on your face.
Kirk, Spock and Uhura shared a quick glance as they all thought the same thing. He knows her? What is happening?
“Khan”
As soon as you responded, you ran to him and started fighting with all your strength, punching, kicking as he did the same. Khan grabbed you neck but with a rapid movement you moved his hand away, pushing his elbow down and then swinging back your leg making him fall to the ground. You had no time to punch him because he had already stood up and punched you in the face. As nothing even had touched you responded striking a hard blow to his chest.
“So you work with them now?”
“Always had, always will” you responded seriously. He then took a gun from his belt and fired at you, hitting you on your shoulder.
“NO!” your crew members shouted, but they were all soon surprised.
You turned again towards Khan, your suit now had a big hole where the shot pierced but you weren’t bleeding, your skin was red but instead the wound was rapidly healing, leaving no trace of the hit.
Kirk watched in utter confusion as Spock and Uhura kept their weapons aimed to Harrison or Khan.
He saw your skin healing and scoffed a little.
“Like I thought” his low voice pierced you ears. Analyzing the situation he asked one last question “How many torpedoes do you have on the ship?”
“72” Spock said.
You looked at him, your face contorted in rage.
He then looked back at Kirk “I surrender”

August 21: 3x04 And the Children Shall Lead
Okay, I’m finally going to write up my thoughts on And the Children Shall Lead. I think I’m (mostly) over all of my excessively-strong emotions about this ep lol. Maybe going through my notes will bring them back. Or maybe not. I’ve felt very tired and uninterested in everything today so it’s hard to tell. So far the process is not going well: tumblr ate my first attempt at a post, like literally I wrote a few lines, clicked to a new tab, and when I clicked back the post was empty so thanks for that, and I keep on just generally not being interested in the task. So, we’ll see.
The tl;dr is that I don’t see why this ep is considered one of the worst. I actually really liked it!
Single-color jumpsuits: the fashion of the future.
Another old Kirk friend! (This isn’t even important lol; it never comes up again or matters that Kirk knew this guy, but we must always be reminded that he is the best networker in Starfleet.)
“He’s dead, Captain.” Not “he’s dead, Jim”?? Sounds wrong.
“The enemy within.” I thought that was a S1 ep?
Ah, another bunch of creepy kids. In pajamas this time, apparently.
Kirk is not having fun being the center of their creepy little rhyme.
RIP to McCoy but my diagnosis is “alien shenanigans.”
“I’m sorry, Captain Kirk.” Such a polite little alien.
McCoy corralling the kids
This sounds a lot like Miri, except purposeful—something targeted all the adults but left the kids, just like the virus in Miri affected all the adults, but not the kids.
…A disturbance in the cave!
Lol at Kirk’s anxiety face. I feel you, man.
Spock’s never experienced anxiety? My first thought is ‘sounds fake’ but actually… maybe he really hasn’t.
“There has to be an explanation.” This is the MOST Jim line.
I like these kids. They’re actually pretty cute. Also love Kirk trying to relate to the kids.
Where are they? Is this Sulu’s greenhouse lol? I love it. They should have used this set more.
“That place is for adults.” Gotta say, I wrote this down but now have no recollection what it actually refers to. The bridge? I think it’s the bridge.
Are they performing witchcraft? Intriguing.
“Friendly angel”—nothing creepy about that at all.
Got a little alien cult going on here. Every time I feel anxiety from now on I’m going to assume it’s an alien cultist nearby.
“We’ll pursue this in my quarters.” Wink wink.
Can’t fool Uhura.
Never mind. Yes you can.
For someone who wanted the kids guarded all the time, Kirk sure was ok with them just traipsing around the bridge. I mean the guards are at the door but like…they’re only at the door.
Never really thought about how there’s apparently an…engineering component... to flying the ship? I don’t know, I don’t really get it but it’s cool.
"Evil does seek to maintain power by suppressing the truth." Damn. Great line.
BAND OF MARAUDES. That’s a cool backstory for the dead alien society. Basically, they’re ghosts. Greedy ghosts. Alien ghost pirates.
Great triumvirate scene. McCoy want to protect the kids and Kirk’s like “…but the ship, though?” Which is fair!!
What does the ghost want? Um, a ship to maraud in, were you not listening to Spock’s exposition of the back story?
No don’t beam anyone down!!
Love any time Spock pushes someone else out of the way so he can man the transporter. He’s somehow the second-best expert on it on the entire ship.
Eeek, low-key gruesome death there. Look, I know that this is one of the scenes that haters love to point out as a reason to despise the episode but I personally don’t think deeply enough into the transporter situation to wonder how much information they have or assume before they beam people anywhere. Also…weird alien stuff is happening, guys. Just attribute it to that. Also also, if you’re gonna nitpick like that, be prepared to hate all of TOS.
THE KIDS STOLE THE CAR.
“Sulu, what did you to do my ship?”
Uhura’s watching this little witchcraft scene from the background like ‘aw, so cute.’
“Call upon their beasts.” Metal.
“Go to your stations.” This little kid is a future Captain in the making.
SPACE KNIVES
Kirk's like "Oh no, my crew is deserting me, I'm gonna have to fly the whole ship by myself AGAIN.”
“Captain, why are we bothering Starfleet?” Et tu, Spock?s
How did they get to Spock? He doesn’t seem scared of anything…more like he’s under the influence of a general hallucination, like the others seeing the planet on the screen even after they left orbit.
I remember this part, with Kirk freaking out. Spock doesn’t like it one bit.
He’s just being a littttle Dramatique.
Cannot believe that all Spock has to do is say “Jim” in a quiet, intimate voice and Kirk is immediately okay. Just let it out of his system, grabbed onto his friend, heard his own name, and the beast is defeated.
“My Vulcan friend”? Lol.
Kirk’s face when he realizes they’ve got Scotty too…
“Go away or we’ll kill you.” That was legitimately creepy. Scotty gone rogue.
Aw, Spock was worried about him again.
“Without followers, evil cannot spread.”
“Where did you hear this order, Chekov?” / “The voices in my head.”
It’s interesting that Kirk and Spock can’t be manipulated—perhaps because they have each other?
Enough of this—fight time!
That guard sounded like he really liked that nerve pinch; he was kinda moaning as he went down.
“Spock, corral them to their rooms.”
Outta the chair, brat.
Is Kirk going to defeat the alien evil using logic?
Summoning the “angel” by using the old recording is very clever.
When did they decide to start calling him the Gorgon?
“It lost its power in the light of reality” = “I looked into Spock’s eyes and knew myself again.”
HE IS GENTLE. It’s true and you should say it.
And he doesn’t even dispute it. “AND we are ALSO very strong.”
"You are full of goodness. Such as you cannot be changed."
So the girl is Jankowski.
This is very Candyman. The alien needs their belief to live. When they cease to follow him, he literally disappears.
Honestly, this whole alien scheme starts to look equal parts silly and sad, trying to call the crying children "generals.” They’re babies!
McCoy loves to see children in tears lol.
Kirk just hands them all off to McCoy, like ‘well, my work here is done.’
Okay, now we reverse course to pick up those stranded security guards still on the planet, right? Right? No? Okay, guess not.
Uhura, immediately ready with the paperwork lol. Now IS the time.
The end!
Now to try to interpret all of my other, more general notes.
The way I interpreted Spock being able to defy the mind control was that he was affected by Kirk. Because he clearly was affected, but then when he saw Kirk starting to freak out, he looked concerned, and then got them both off the bridge—he had a breakthrough of clarity long enough to understand he needed to get off the bridge. Then he’d be away from the kids, and they wouldn’t have as much control, and he could snap Jim out of it, too.
Like I’m sure his Vulcan resilience could easily have been part of it, too, but that resilience wasn’t enough to keep him from being affected at all—and of course they could have easily written it that way—and it seems obvious that his moment of clarity was caused specifically by watching Kirk starting to lose it. There are so many shots of him specifically watching Kirk and the guard.
The K/S vibes were so strong. Spock was so protective, then they get in the lift and Kirk basically clings to him. All he has to do is say Kirk’s name and Kirk is fine, which is basically the power of true love. And then even outside of that scene… for the whole rest of the ep, they’re a duo. It’s not just Kirk against the Evil of the Week, it’s Kirk and Spock, working together at every turn. Neither of them could have done it alone.
it's a pretty classic trope, in fact, especially in s1, to have Kirk all alone, abandoned by all...where he's the last man standing, the one who has to run the whole ship and save the whole day. Naked Time, This Side of Paradise, and Trouble with Tribbles (kinda) all come to mind. But this time he has Spock! You see the progression of their relationship in that.
I really enjoyed this episode in general. Lots of classic tropes: creepy children; surprise alien; old alien society not as dead as we thought; Kirk has to run the whole ship by himself (with Spock); heroic!Kirk saving the day… It has it all. It’s clearly revisiting some older themes and ideas, but in a sufficiently unique way that it doesn’t just seem like a rehash of an older plot. In some ways, it felt like a Classic S1 episode to me. It has some Miri elements, some Charlie X elements, some Naked Time elements…
I literally don’t understand why it’s so disliked.
Skimmed the wiki and the only specific criticism in there is that Kirk shows an “unmistakable hostility to the children.” Well first of all, he doesn’t. He might not have the best manner with them, but why should he? He’s certainly not mean or cruel to them. He recognizes they’re a danger to his ship, and to the whole planet of Marcos-12, which by the way is objectively true, but that’s not being hostile. McCoy is the one who represents ‘exclusive care for the children’s welfare’ in this ep, but he CAN do that, because he’s not the Captain. He represents that perspective, he gives his opinion, which is both his job on the ship and his role on the show, and then Kirk takes that into account while doing HIS job, which is running the ship. McCoy would have literally let the kids take over their ship and conquer the galaxy as part of their grieving process lol. Kirk was right and I should say it. (Also btw he understands that killing the kids might be an option—but he obviously doesn’t actually do it.)
I actually think this ep is a great example of the triumvirate functioning--McCoy reminds Kirk that the children are just traumatized children, and Spock reminds him that he's responsible for 400+ people on the ship, and Kirk makes the decisions that vanquish the evil, save the ship, and free the kids.
And look, even if you don’t like this episode, you’d have to argue very hard to convince me it’s the WORST, as in worse than Spock’s Brain, worse than The Alternative Factor, worse than Assignment Earth (not even a real TOS ep!), worse than The Omega Glory.
Some stuff I actively liked: the concept of the alien taking over the children specifically (both creepy and…kinda makes sense? That they’d be vulnerable); the message that the followers of demagogues can be both truly dangerous and objects of sympathy; the backstory of the evil empire of pirate aliens—and how greed doesn’t die; the witchcraft aesthetic, ESPECIALLY when paired with the kid antagonists, since kids are so into that like chanting, incantations, rituals thing; that the ep used every single main character (when was the last time a TOS ep did that?). Also I thought the kid actors did a good job!
The theme about the authoritarian and the cult followers was actually quite resonant, I thought; inevitably made me think of Tr/ump and his Tr/umpies. Just like in this episode, you must have some kind of… if not sympathy, at least willingness to do the hard work of deprograming and then bringing them back to the fold, or else the country is never going to heal and it’s never going to be able to go forward in a positive way. It might not go forward at all! But fuck it’s hard to have that sympathy; they’re so abhorrent. Here, you see the terrible things the kids do, and yet sympathy isn’t so hard, because they’re kids. You see how much they are victims/pawns also. And so in that sense, Kirk’s ability to deprogram them is comfortingly optimistic—a little bittersweet, as TOS often is, because the kids have done horrible things and seen horrible things and now they’ll have to live with it, but comforting nonetheless.
I can’t even think of that many things I didn’t like in the ep. Mostly just nitpicky things. Like, was McCoy a little inconsistent in what he thought should be done with the kids? Yeah, but we get the general idea. Did Kirk drop the ball when he let them hang out on the bridge? Yes, especially as he knew how dangerous they were at that point, but I actually don’t mind it so much because they’re kids—it’s understandable that their true dangerousness didn’t fully compute to him. I don’t see that as a mistake or sloppy writing tbh. And was it an amateur hour mistake to beam two people into space? Yes, but it made up for it in being creepy and upping the stakes of the ep.
I guess I could see how the fist gesture could be seen as a little silly. But the other option, having them speak rhymes each time, would have been distracting—and probably also looked silly! Also, as my mom pointed out, it looks like a kid’s game (sorta like the start of rock paper scissors) so it fits appropriately with the theme.
I really liked how they wove in the aesthetic of kids’ games, kids’ manners of playing, into the narrative. Kids can be really creepy! They like creepy things! So the ring around the rosy rhyme at the beginning—a quite disturbing chant, of course, about the Plague, that is also very commonly sung by actual kids—foreshadows the summoning chant that brings the alien to them. It’s all of a piece. And just like the rhyme is just a rhyme, and they don’t know the real meaning behind it, they probably also don’t fully understand the meaning of the summoning chant or the alien that comes with it. It’s all one big game to them.
It’s interesting that the alien seemed to play off their desire both to punish their parents for working too much ("they like the planet, they're always busy") and to have freedom from parental rules (how they react to any instructions from adults, the alien's promise that the whole universe will be their playground, etc.). He really picks their sore spots as kids specifically and turns them into his “generals” accordingly. Like all kids, they don’t think too much about the larger consequences of their game because in some ways, it really is all just a game to them.
I liked how the episode characterized Kirk’s ability to interact with kids. He’s not bad with them at all, but he’s not like McCoy or Chapel either. He “wants to communicate with the future adult in the kid,” as my mom put it, which is perfect. He doesn’t exactly treat them as mini-adults—he doesn’t say inappropriate things to them, and he does simplify his language and his ideas for them—but he does treat them very seriously. And he’s probably best at one-on-one interactions like with Tommy. I think this makes total sense for his character: he doesn’t have kids (David aside lol), he doesn’t have younger siblings, he doesn’t work in a place where he’d see other people’s kids, he doesn’t get to see his nephew much, etc.
…Okay those were all my notes. I know I had other thoughts that were a little less scattered later, but… I’m tired. And most of it is probably in here in some form or another. I also found a list of, like, actual critiques of the episode, and I was considering going through them and addressing them all, and I might still do that. But I think that’s for another day.
