need to practice driving more but renting car expensive and I'd have to drive it out of the city from an airport (scary traffic) when most of my driving experience recently has been in Bumfucking Nowhere. girl help
#Also wanting a friend for accountability and also to take over on a longer drive#I am wondering if a trip renting a car out of Midway and then driving to Southwest Michigan would be good practice#Without just spending car rental money on driving a car around for no good reason#But currently I'm in a loop of wanting to go places up north but needing a car to do so#And these being places where it's a hard sell to tell someone ''i want to explore abandoned mining regions up north for an extended weekend#versus something Actually Fun for people

As an American, this is hilarious. I remember being forced to memorize the states in elementary school.
Also, answering your tags with some of my own @alishatheninth
okay americans how’d i do
#yes#Arizona and Nevada ARE right next to California#California gets its electricity from neighbors#but the whole of the southwest fiends for the fresh water of the great lakes#(the area surrounding the mitten shaped state known as michigan)#as someone from Michigan#this deeply irks me#because the southwest#(primarily big cities such as Las Vegas)#have depleted their natural water resources in less than like 50 years of existence#destroying the environment and natural habitats#ALSO#rejected Florida is south Carolina#and the tri-state area refers to New York City and its surrounding areas#because the metropolis crosses over state lines into New Jersey and Connecticut#that is all

America is so fucking stupid
Two Dakotas
Two Virginias
Idaho
Two Carolinas
A state you could ride a bike around its border in a single day (Rhode Island - it’s not even an island btw)
Fucking Idaho
Has like 14 territories and people only really know about one (Puerto Rico)
Could drive in one single state for over 11 hours and still be in it (Texas) and 34 for another (Alaska)
Every single state has different laws outside of the Constitution and bill of rights (in Pennsylvania you can’t sleep on a refrigerator door - yes as in the thing that keep food good)
Idaho
Kansas City being in fucking MISSOURI
Delaware state, Delaware River, Delaware River (in Kansas this time), Delaware Lake, Delaware Basin, Delaware Water Gap (PA), Delaware Falls (one of 24 waterfalls in a state park in PA - again) Delaware county, Delaware city, Delaware Indiana, Delaware Iowa, Delaware Michigan, Delaware MISSOURI, Delaware New York, Delaware Ohio, Delaware Oklahoma
Honorable mentions I fucking guess; West Point, Virginia that used to be known as Delaware and Delaware Ontario (CANADA??!)
SHUT THE FUCK UP DELAWARE
Idaho
Two Washingtons but one is a state on the west coast and one is a district on the east coast - they have 0 affiliation with each other minus having the same name
The amount of Lafayette shit is named (streets, playgrounds, towns/cities/villages??, counties)
We have like 9 times zones
We have a literal desert, forest, beach/ocean, flat lands, mountains, tropical, canyons, etc (we have one of each type of landscape basically)
The entire US can fit inside of Europe plus a little extra if you include Alaska/Hawaii
God damn Idaho
Have a spot where four states line up perfectly in a tiny square (geologically not really, but on a map they do)
A river that cuts through like 10(?) states (Mississippi River) (2,340 miles/1,151,000 square miles or 3,770 km for my nonamerican friends)
The Great Lakes (they are like mini oceans)
The fact there is a natural disaster in any region you go to - out west in California? Earth quakes and tsunamis. Mid-west? tornadoes. South? Tornadoes and hurricanes. Hawaii? Hurricanes and tsunamis. Alaska? Cold af/not enough sunlight (yes this is an actual issue - not being funny about this). Northeast? Snow storms and flash floods/flash flood of muds from the left over hurricanes of the south. The Canadian border out west? Again snow and tornadoes. THE DESERT in the southwest (I could go on)
Motherfucking Idaho
#america#usa#untied states#geography#this is mostly a joke#I have no real beef with Idaho I just don’t like the way it’s shaped

do you have any WTTT headcannons you'd like to share?
sorry it took me a few days I had to remember some I hadn't shared yet + its been mostly branches brainrot the past week and didn't want it to be just them lol
here u go
Gov hates the branches saluting him so much actually, he keeps telling them they don't have to do it but its so habitual they'll never stop. National Guard on the other hand is supposed to salute all the states and territories and stopped doing that forever ago bc some states were so smug about it.
Subregion meetings are always somehow MORE chaotic than region meetings, the Great Lakes and Southwest are tied for number times Gov opened the door, heard yelling, decided "nope." and left without even going in.
At least once a month Gov tries to organize 'region bonding' activities and they're all like "we're not kids at a summer camp what is this smh" cut to the South & West actually about to kill each other over a game of tug of war bc "its unfair, y'all have Alaska! he's like four people!" "stop whining you guys have Texas!" "fuck Texas!" "HEY!"
West Virginia wasn't raised by Virginia like, at all really, but he did get a lot second hand bc Kentucky, Ohio, Indiana and Illinois turned raising West Virginia into a group project and all four of them were raised by Virginia. (Illinois is the guy who didn't do any work but put his name on it/j) (he did do work he had to work to be a worse influence then Ohio smh)
Speaking of, the first state most states met right after joining the union was Virginia, no one knows how she gets places so fast, became a competition to try to beat her and no one ever has. WV and Nevada are the only two that met someone else first.
Michigan, Wisconsin & Minnesota go ice fishing together at least once a year, they don't actually do much fishing but they do get very drunk at like 8 am. so there's that. somehow none of them have fallen and broken something or fallen through the ice... yet.
when Tennessee and Texas started dating the Carolina's gave Tex a shovel talk with such specifics that they were either joking entirely or dead serious and he has nightmares about finding out which one it is.
Florida has an adderall prescription but has never had it filled, he's started using it to get things, tells Gov he'll go right to the pharmacy if he just lets him do this one last chaotic thing (he will never go to the pharmacy).
based on state land mass Ohio and Indiana are both victims of older but shorter with the rest of the Midwest. Minnesota & Illinois will pick Indiana up so she can see/reach things, Ohio's fragile masculinity won't let anyone help him, he'll scale counters first.
California has 2 siblings Baja California Sur (older sister) and Baja California Norte (younger brother), everyone outside of the west + Texas forget about this a lot bc in no way has California ever given middle kid vibes.
Texas being Texas celebrates his birthday THREE TIMES every year, May 7th (Mexican statehood day), March 2nd (texas independence), and December 29th (US statehood day). he does throw major parties for all three.
that's all I can think of right now :3

A member of the Miami tribe.
The Miami people, are a Native American nation, originally speaking one of the Algonquian languages. Among the peoples known as the Great Lakes tribes, it occupied territory, that is now identified as Indiana, southwest Michigan, and western Ohio.
By 1846, most of the Miami had been removed, to Indian Territory (now Oklahoma). The Miami Tribe of Oklahoma, is the only federally recognized tribe of Miami Indians, in the United States. The Miami Nation of Indiana, is an unrecognized tribe

From Midland Michigan-

I had been requested by one of my followers to see if I could get some photos from Dahlia Hill the next time I traveled to Midland for pics.
Below are a bunch of photos I took today. I have seen the flowers more perky in other years but we are in a two week hot spell with no rain.

Most all of these look like they’ve been hand watered.

Rain is due tomorrow

There are gravel pathways for visitors every few tiers for people, so that it limits trampling.

I was the only one there this afternoon.

The location of this is just a bit southwest of the city. It was a nice day to get outside and some others were doing just that in the downtown area.
Happy Thursday y’all 😁

As of September 8th, 2024, Kamala Harris is slightly favored (64% chance) in the race for the presidency.
So first, let's talk about that topline.
Some other forecasts have become noticeably more bullish for former President Trump, and that's because they're looking at the polling margins decline and declaring that the convention bump is still declining. But that's not the important part of the picture. Here, my polling "bins" come in handy. Let's look at the week-by-week average of national polling:
Week of August 11th: 47.7 Harris, 45.8 Trump
Week of August 18th (week of DNC): 47.9 Harris, 43.8 Trump
Week of August 25th: 47.9 Harris, 45.0 Trump
Week of September 1st: 49.0 Harris, 46.4 Trump
Notice anything? Vice President Harris held steady through the DNC- the convention bump merely took the form of a dip in polling for Mr. Trump. My personal theory as to why that is rests in the tone of the convention - the organizers clearly attempted a big-tent strategy to reach out to disaffected Republicans. But that makes undecided voters, not new voters for Democrats. And now both candidates are snatching up undecided voters - we are officially in full gear.
Now, let's break down the closest states:
Arizona (51% chance of being won by Harris) - This state had the biggest swing this week thanks to continued gains for Mr. Trump. The fundamentals of this state are still strong for Ms. Harris, however.
Georgia (62% chance of being won by Trump) - Another Romney-Trump-Biden state, the Vice President is keeping this state close, but it may not be enough given that the Deep South isn't known for its abundance of persuadable voters. Fundamentals and polling line up well here.
North Carolina (64% chance of being won by Trump) - The polls have this state being neck-and-neck, but again, the model expects Mr. Trump to have an easier time picking up undecided voters here.
Pennsylvania (67% chance of being won by Harris) - This state has the closest polling average in our dataset, but the model seems to believe we're more likely to be looking at a polling miss like 2022's instead of 2020's.
Wisconsin (69% chance of being won by Harris) - If there's any state the polls could fumble, I personally think it's this one. I just can't buy this whiter, more rural Rust Belt state voting to the left of Michigan. But even just looking at fundamentals, Ms. Harris is still a very, very slim favorite in the Badger State.
Now for some other notable swings:
Nevada (77% chance of being won by Harris) - Another massive swing in the Southwest, but this time it's bad for the former President. The model is now pretty confident that he's locked out of around 48.5% of the state's voters, which... you know... gives a narrow path for victory. He better hope that Ms. Harris doesn't gain any further here.
Texas (96% chance of being won by Trump) - Texas has leaped back off the board for a similar reason to Nevada - all indicators suggest that Mr. Trump is approaching 50% of the vote in this state. It would probably take a genuine polling miss in the Vice President's favor to make the state winnable.
So where does this leave each candidate? The Rust Belt continues to get more important for Ms. Harris, and Mr. Trump still needs Georgia and North Carolina to come through for him. So on a macro level, outside of the Southwest getting weird, things have actually been fairly unsurprising, which you'd expect from a short week. Let's see if there's a shakeup after the debate and in the coming months.
