this MAY be a hot take as i see people saying the opposite a lot but i don't understand why people don't like kuwei. "he was so rude for no reason!!" first of all no he wasn't second of all, he was a 15 year old who had just been imprisoned, had just lost his father, was dealing with what was probably his first crush on a guy (i mean it's unclear but i doubt he had much social interaction as a kid so he probably didn't really see kids his age to develop a crush on), and was living in fear of persecution. like sorry he pretended not to speak kerch so he wouldn't have to be in conversations and flirted with his crush, jeez.

While I love the Six of Crows fandom, I think a lot of people get Kaz's character wrong a lot of the time

Sure, I know as well as anybody that Kaz is badass, but he's also a complete boy failure when it comes to Inej

Yeah he's witty and smart, but he's also an angsty ass teenager (have you SEEN that one 'I feed it the finest cuts of meat' line?)

We all focus on how badass he is so much that we forget that he's a TEENAGER

An absolute edge lord of a teenager that is whipped for the girl he likes

Hc that when Kanej's kid asks them how they meet, instead of telling them all the details Inej just decideds to make up something like

"Oh, he fell from the sky"

"You see, I was reeling the nets in on my ship when i caught a little fish. It turned out to be quite handsome so I decided to keep it"

"Uncle Jesper won him at a gambling hall and thought he'd make quite a nice birthday present"

and Kaz just goes along with it (at least until the kids are old enough to know)

Post CK Wesper sometimes visiting Kaz in the Slat and all the Dregs that are around their age are eyeing Wylan annoyed and he thinks it’s because he’s now a mercher but it’s actually because he’s dating Jesper whom everyone had a crush on (and who was actually approachable cause they also like Kaz but that’s not an option) so like. Everyone is jealous of him but not because he’s rich, but because he got their favorite sharpshooter head over heels for him

Several Sentence Sunday

I pretty much only have one chapter left to go in Vakantie. I need to really look at what I want to achieve in it, and go from there. Until then, please enjoy this paragraph from Inej's most recent section. I had an early form of this in my original outline, and it got better when I added to it in situ.

Inej thought about all of the facets of the man she loved as she watched conflicting emotions war in his eyes. Kaz Brekker was the facade he wore for the masses, for his crew, and around the Barrel. There were different shades of Brekker for the Van Eck staff, for his barber Bram, or Iosef at Zavarka Yugu, or Professor Chaudri. Inej had seen him take on the role of Dirtyhands enough times to remember and contrast it to the man she knew now. The change was a cane strike, a punch to the jaw. He became harsh and cold, his affect dropping all caring, and picking up a weapon. Inej hadn’t seen him in that role in a long while, only the aftermath of it, and how it had shaken him. Watching him slip into Kaz Rietveld, though, that was far more subtle. If you didn’t know what you were looking for, you might miss it. Though she was certain he wouldn’t reveal Kaz Rietveld to anyone besides her just yet. There was a softness to his voice, a boyish wonder, combined with a younger man’s apprehension. It was in the uncertain way he asked questions, more readily let his doubts show. Kaz Rietveld was willing to believe in magic, while Kaz Brekker only performed it, knowing how it all worked. Studying all the parts that Kaz was made of only made her love him more.
