Doom Schneider and his crazy antics playing drums, Live aus Berlin style
I'm not joking, this man is the sole reason why I want to learn to play drums now
I'm doing an art mentoring with a very skilled friend of mine who I pity endlessly for having to put up with my crazy antics and inspirations when it comes to drawing. After a whole 2 and a half hours class on lights and shadows, she asked me if I was frying already and I HAD to draw Schneider frying on his drums.
'Cause the thing I look forward the most whenever watching a Rammstein live video is Schneider frying on his drums (that in my country means something like "playing like crazy and forgetting the whole world exists"). I freakin' adore it and now I want to learn to play Sehnsucht to fry as well <3
Now on a more technical aspect, this is the very first time I studied someone's face and poses a LOT before drawing without ANY reference regarding face and pose.
(Breakdown of my study process to get to the final result under the cut in case anyone wants to learn to do it! If you have any questions, feel free to ask me ;D)
I creeply took a dozen pics of his face and mapped all the shapes - mainly his nose, mouth, face shape, eye sockets and eye shapes and jaw - to find out what makes Schneider look like Schneider. My conclusion was, all features are important, yes, but when it comes to simplification, his nose and his mouth are key.
Regarding his pose, I took at least a dozen prints of him playing Sehnsucht live aus Berlin and traced all of them to understand his mannerisms. First sketch I made didn't look like him 'cause Schneider doesn't really hunch while playing - he has a very good posture actually. It also helped getting his body shape right.
I mean, we artists are really creepy when it comes to studying another person, it's a fine line between being an artist and a psycho, don't feel bad about it
Then I sketched the pose and, when drawing the face, I mapped all the shapes I had already studied to figure out where it would all go and the sizes regarding my drawing. Then the rest was the linework, coloring and learning to use dynamic light/shadows as well as ambient and rim light.

Compulsions don't look the same. Perfectionists sometimes are slob-like only because they cannot perform to their own perfect standards.
NEATNESS CAN BE A COMPULSION. But this is not the only thing OCD has. See people for what they are. Not what you think they should appear like. These posts get to me...
My compulsion usually happen in an active way. Purchasing is a large one. One item can drive me toward a rabbit hole and at the store and I feel as though I need to jump down that rabbit hole in order to feel more fulfilled in life or I may be empty for a long time.
Just because I don't look like the OCD you want to see doesn't mean it is not my reality.

The pencil, long lost; the pen—run dry. And it’s not that I don’t even want to try to try. This, though, may be the season for watermarks; for coffee mug rings; for getting lost in a sweater*, and a good book; fresh bread and savory soups with friends.
I am mentally tired and need to replenish my (very) large bin of semicolons: the pauses of refreshment!
*I confess that I didn’t know what a “jumper” was until the reboot of the TV series Dr. Who. Prior to that revelation, I convinced myself that “ jumper” was a British term for a kind of military/aviator/paratrooper outerwear, perhaps a leather jacket design repurposed for everyday people, much as Americans did with the flight crew “bomber” jacket after WW2 (and US Army fatigues after Vietnam). Yes, I can thick be as a brick. Book recommendations always welcome.
